Rangers starting pitcher Colby Lewis dominated the Oakland Athletics and only have up a pair of hits as the Athletics fell to the Ranger 4-0. Danny Valencia played the role of spoiler when he smacked a leadoff double down the left-field line in the eighth inning.
On Lewis’ dominating performance Valencia said, “When you are witnessing great things happening, there’s a mutual respect. He was very competitive tonight.”
Oakland Head Coach Bob Melvin echoed Valencia’s respect for Lewis,“He does throw some strikes. You just try to get a ball in the middle of the plate, and he wasn’t throwing too many there.”
Lewis only needed 97 pitches for the game and retired 21 straight batters to start the game. For Oakland, Jesse Chavez earned his 15th lose of the season as he went six innings and gave up three runs on six hits.
The Rangers were able to tack on three runs in the first inning behind the strength of two doubles from Mitch Moreland (23) and Rougned Odor (20). Then in the Seventh inning Shin-Soo Choo smacked a ground ball single to center field to score Chris Gimenez to give Texas a 4-0 lead.
The teams head back out on the field tomorrow when the A’s send up LHP Sean Nolin (0-1, 4.50) against the Rangers RHP Yovani Gallardo (12-9, 3.16), game time 5:05pm CDT.
