The Giants and A’s concluded their spring training with their final tune-up for the regular season and the Giants won 2-1. With the victory the Giants won the Bay Bridge Series in front of 29,553 fans at the Oakland Coliseum.
The Giants scored twice in the 4th inning. Buster Posey walked. With two outs Casey McGehee singled up the middle off of A’s starter Drew Pomeranz moving Posey to second. Justin Maxwell doubled to left driving in Buster Posey for the first run of the game. Then McGehee scored the second run of the inning after Pomeranz was called for a balk.
Drew Pomeranz took the loss for the A’s. Pomeranz (2-3) gave up five hits, two earned runs with two walks, three strikeouts and the balk.
Giant’s starter Tim Hudson pitched a strong game in his final start of he Spring. Hudson pitched five innings allowed four hits, walked two and struck out one.
The Giants took two of the final three games to improve their spring record to 13-21-2
The A’s finished the spring with the best spring training record in Baseball. With a record of 22-11- 2
The A’s will open the season against the Texas Rangers on Monday at the Coliseum Sonny Gray will start for the A’s in the opener and will face Yovoni Gallardo. It will be Gray’s second consecutive Opening Day start. The last pitcher to start consecutive openers is Barry Zito in 2005 and 2006.
Notes: Barry Zito came into pitch in the 6th inning and pitched a perfect inning Zito received a strong ovation as he walked off the mound by both the Giants and A’s fans in attendance at the Coliseum. The A’s announced that Zito accepted a minor league assignment and will start the season at triple A Nashville. The A’s will allow Zito to leave the team should another team decide to pick up Zito.
