#1 Whose dumbfounded the most in the Cal Bears (3-6) Covid 19 situation head coach Justin Wilcox who said the team followed protocols or the other head scratcher how did the team contract Covid 19 that forced them to postpone this Saturday’s game with USC (4-5).

#2 Either way Daniel the Bears get a week off after that grueling game in Tucson where Cal quarterback Ryan Glover just couldn’t get any offensive traction going against the struggling Arizona Wildcats (1-8).

#3 The key thing in the game against the Wildcats the Bears who were missing over 24 players due to Covid 19 protocols coach Wilcox had a rough time getting second stringers, practice squad players and back up to jell in what some would call a thrown together situation.

#4 How important will this week be for the Bears to regroup from last week’s loss in Arizona get a week off and prepare for the Big Game against the Stanford Cardinal (3-6) at Stanford Stadium next Sat Nov 13. The Cardinal are coming off that horrendous loss to the Utah Utes (6-3) 57-7 and are looking for a better game. How do you see the Bears and Cardinal matching up next week?

#5 Lastly Cal quarterback Chase Garbers will have had two weeks off the first week against Arizona where he sat out for Covid 19 protocols and this Saturday for the same reasons. Enough time to recover from the Covid issues and start throwing the rock in preparation against the Cardinal.

Cal Bears Football report: Cal’s next game vs. USC postponed to Dec 4th due to Covid 19 protocols

Last week when the Cal Bears left to take the flight to Tucson and play at Arizona the team left 26 players behind including starting quarterback Chase Garbers. The result was Cal losing to a team the Wildcats who had a 20 game losing streak and who were 0-8 this season by a 10-3 final.

The quarantine and testing situation at Cal doesn’t look like things have improved much as multiple Cal players have either tested positive or they are in quarantine trying to recover from Covid 19 and the Bears who were supposed to play USC this Saturday in Berkeley have rescheduled the contest to Dec 4th. The Bears next game will be the Big Game at Stanford on Nov 20th so far that game is still on target to be played and it will be over ten days as the players should be out of quarantine by then.

Cal Athletic Director Jim Knowlton said the decision to cancel the game was not an easy choice to make saying, “It was a difficult decision to postpone this Saturday’s game against USC, we know how important every one of our games is to our student-athletes, especially our seniors who have been incredible representatives of the program, but it was the right thing to do. Due to additional impact on specific position groups, we have decided to postpone Saturday’s game. We have had multiple COVID-19 positives within our program, and we are taking every step we can to mitigate the spread and protect the greater community.”

Stanford Cardinal (1-1) quarterback Tanner McKee threw for two touchdowns, went 16-23 for 234 yards in the Cardinal’s first win of the season over their Southern California opponents the USC Trojans (1-1) 42-28. The Cardinal scored 14 points in each of the second and third quarters that helped lead them to victory.

The Cardinal were coming off a opening day loss from last Sat Sep 6th to Kansas State 24-7 and wanted badly to make amends. They shocked the oddsmakers who had USC favored and who were ranked No.14. The Cardinal’s wide receiver Nathaniel Peat had 115 yards and caught a 87 yard touchdown pass from McKee and the Cardinal Kyu Blue Kelly picked off a USC quarterback Kedon Slovis pass for 31 yards for a touchdown that sparked and inspired the Cardinal in the victory.

Stanford head coach David Shaw had his team prepared this week after the Cardinal took that tough loss to Kansas State and the taste of that game was still in their mouths from opening week and the improved offense on Saturday night against the USC defense made things just a little bit satisfying for Shaw and McKee.

McKee had some good looks from the Kansas State opener after starting quarterback Jack West struggled to start that game. McKee did himself well against USC throwing for touchdowns to receivers Elijah Higgins and Brycen Tremayne in the fourth quarter that put Stanford ahead of USC by 29 points.

This was the Cardinal ninth win out of the last 14 games with the Trojans and the Cardinal defense kept the pressure on Slovis all night who went 27-42 for 223 yards, one touchdown and one interception. USC running backs Keaontay Ingram and Darwin Barlow each carried for a touchdowns but the effort was far short with McKee and the Cardinal pouring it in on offensively all night.

The loss snapped the Trojans nine game winning streak which carried over from last season, the Trojans won their opener on Sep 6th handling a very talented San Jose State team 30-7. That Trojan win looked as if it was going to set the tone for Saturday night’s game against the Cardinal but the Cardinal defense held Slovis and the Trojans offense from any developing opportunities and the Cardinal came into this game after studying film from the Trojans last game.

It was so bad for the Trojans that they even had their kicker Parker Lewis ejected from the game on the opening kick off for targeting his tackle. Despite that back up kicker Alex Stadthaus wound up kicking two field goals and two extra points flawlessly.

Next week USC will head to Pullman and face the Washington State Cougars at 12:30 pm on Sat Sep 18th and Stanford will conclude this three game road trip at Vanderbilt (2-1). The Commodores are coming off a close 24-21 win against Colorado State Saturday. Kickoff between Stanford and Vanderbilt is 5:00 pm PDT Sat Sep 18th.

On the Stanford Cardinal podcast with Jerry F:

#1 It’s almost incredible to think about how the USC Trojans (20-6) just were no match for the Stanford Cardinal (14-12) in a landslide win 79-42.

#2 The Cardinal scored only 17 points to the Trojans 36 just in the first half, the Cardinal just couldn’t get any offense going and faired no better in the second half 43-25.

#3 Stanford was missing Oscar da Silva in the line up and had Brandon Angel and Spencer Jones tied for the Cardinal top scorers with nine.

#4 Lots of points scored against the Cardinal 79 and head coach Jerod Haase was under pressure to figure it out but couldn’t.

#5 The game at USC brought the Cardinal to their final regular season game and now they head to the Pac 12 Tournament in Vegas on March 10th one last hurrah to try and get a few wins to close the season.

Trojans hand Cardinal a 79-42 drubbing

Southern California jumped to a huge first-half lead and never looked back on Wednesday, as the Trojans hammered Stanford 79-42 in Pac-12 men’s basketball at Galen Center in Los Angeles.

The Cardinal ended its regular season with four straight losses and possibly played their way out of an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament. Oscar da Silva, Stanford’s top scorer, missed his third straight game with a lower extremity injury.

Tahj Eaddy and Drew Peterson led USC with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Evan Mobley was next with 10 points. Peterson had nine rebounds, six assists and two steals, Isaiah White had three steals, and Evan and Isaiah Mobley each had eight rebounds.

Eaddy shot 6 of 8 from the field. The Trojans (20-6 overall, 14-5 Pac-12) outrebounded Stanford 44-27.

No Cardinal player reached double-figures in scoring, as Spencer Jones and Brandon Angel each scored nine points to lead Stanford (14-12 overall, 10-10 Pac-12). Jaiden Delaire had seven rebounds and two steals.

USC opened the game with a 17-2 run that included 15 straight points. Meanwhile, the Cardinal went 9 minutes and 20 seconds without a field goal.

Things didn’t go much better for Stanford in the second half, as USC went on a 14-0 run out of the break, extending its lead to 50-19.

Earlier, the Cardinal lost to USC 72-66 on Feb. 3.

The Cardinal’s next action is the opening round of the Pac-12 postseason tournament in Las Vegas on March 10. Pairings have yet to be announced.

#1 Jerry, the Cardinal (14-9) are coming off a tough loss to Washington State (14-10) 85-76 in triple overtime Sat Feb 20th and their last scheduled game against the USC Trojans (19-4) was canceled. The loss to the Cougars a tough one in Pullman.

#2 Normally when you get five players in double figures your chances go up for a win but the Cardinal were outscored and the Cougars defense just held them in check to stay ahead.

#3 The Cougars had come off a win against the Cal Bears the Tuesday before they faced the Cardinal. WSU had four scorers in double figures but key factor was Noah Williams who wound up the lead scorer with 40 points an impressive total in college basketball.

#4 The Cougars defense was able to contain Oscar da Silva who scored only 11 points and Michael O’Connell was the Cardinal lead scorer with 17.

#5 The Oregon Ducks (14-9) are at Stanford tonight. The Ducks got whipped by USC in their last game 72-58 Monday night in Los Angeles. The Cardinal play host and after getting beat by the Cougars their going to be pressing too. Jerry, how do you see this match up tonight.

#1 The Stanford Cardinal (10-6) were coming off three win in Tuesday night’s make up game in Santa Cruz and were trying for a third but the USC Trojans (13-3) who have been taking no prisoners all season dominated the Cardinal 72-66 to the Cardinal winning streak.

#2 It seemed like every time the Cardinal turned around on defense the Trojan’s Evan Mobley had the basketball and the Cardinal had a hard time stopping him with Mobley scoring as leading scorer with 23.

#3 The Cardinal had those past games where there were some very close games namely the win over UCLA something had to tell Cardinal head coach Jerod Haase that the Trojans were studying film because they led in both the first and second halves against the Cardinal.

#4 There is no doubt the Cardinal had enough talent to win the game against the Trojans they had both Jaiden Delaire with 22 points and Michael O’Connell 20 points finishing in double figures but the Cardinal are also missing some players to injuries and Oscar da Silva scored only nine points.

#5. The Cardinal take on the Cal Bears (7-12) at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley tonight. Cal has lost two straight games and are in last place in the Pac 12. They did however beat USC 76-68 before going on the two game skid. Can you see the Bears giving the Cardinal some game tonight at the Pavilion?

Finally playing a home game at home for the first time this season, Stanford came up short in a makeup game with Southern California, losing 72-66 to the visiting Trojans in Pac-12 men’s basketball at Maples Pavilion.

The game was originally postponed from Jan. 21 because of COVID-19 issues within the USC program.

Tahj Eaddy made two clutch baskets in the final minute to give the Trojans (14-3 overall, 8-2 Pac-12) their final margin of victory. It was their first win at Stanford (10-7, 6-5) since 2013.U

Jaiden Delaire and Michael O’Connell led the Cardinal with 22 and 20 points, respectively. Delaire was 10 of 16 shooting, including 2 or 4 on 3-pointers. O’Connell had four assists and six rebounds. Lukas Kisunas had seven of Stanford’s 28 rebounds.

Stanford played without starters Ziaire Williams, Bryce Wills and Daejon Davis, out due to COVID-19 protocol.

Evan Mobley was the top USC scorer with 23 points and led the Trojans with 11 rebounds. Drew Peterson was next with 15 points, followed by Tahj Eaddy with 14.

USC was 14 of 20 at the free throw line, while the Cardinal was 5 of 8.

Stanford travels to Berkeley to face California on Thursday, and will host the Golden Bears on Sunday.

#1 The USC Trojans (12-3) Evan Mobley had himself quite a second half against the Cal Bears (7-10) on Saturday night at Haas Pavilion scoring 17 of his 25 points in the second half effective to help defeat the Bears 76-68.

#2 Cal saw those walls closing in in that second half and even with Matt Bradley back in the line up that still didn’t help get the Bears enough offense to win.

#3 Morris I just wanted to ask you about Ryan Betley whose been in a slump of late, he scored seven points and got two assists in Saturday’s game against USC.

#4 The Cal Bears Makale Foreman had a rough game against USC no assists and five points. Foreman had some good games earlier has trailed off some?

#5 The Bears hit the road their next game is on Thu Jan 28 which will be at Arizona State (4-7). ASU has struggled losing six out of their last seven games. The Bears are coming off a win at Utah(6-6), a close loss to UCLA (12-3) and the disappointing loss to USC Morris how do you see Cal and ASU matching up on Thursday?

#1 Michael, Cal tried to keep within range of one of the Pac 12’s best the UCLA Bruins but it wasn’t enough in a four point loss 61-57.

#2 For all their effort Cal took a 36-32 half time lead and maybe some confidence they might pull another upset off like they did in Utah last Saturday.

#3 The Bruins one to never give up stayed just ahead of Cal winning the second half of the game 29-21 which ended up being a four point win for UCLA.

#4 Despite the loss it was close and the Bears seemed to have improved their play. They beat the Utah Utes in a nine point game in Utah and played a close game with the Bruins has Cal head coach Mark Fox improved both offense and defense and has he changed the playbook to improve the recent games?

#5 Cal gets another test as they face another big force in the Pac 12 the USC Trojans. The Trojans last game on Thursday night against Stanford was canceled due to Coronavirus protocols if they can get healthy for Saturday how do you see Cal matching up with the Trojans?
