That’s Amaury News and Commentary: MLB 2020 A stolen season?

file photo from yahoo.com: Oakland A’s pitcher Mike Fiers is the target of some retaliation from other teams during the 2020 season. A’s manager Bob Melvin says nobody is happy about the situation and its time to move forward.

MLB 2020: A Stolen Season?
That’s Amaury News and Commentary

Mike Trout who makes enough money to start his own league, or at least a division, arrived at the Angels Spring Training in Tempe, Arizona and was not shy to talk about the scandal that has consumed the game: “It’s sad for baseball,” Trout said. “It’s thought they cheated.”’ referring to the Houston Astros players on the stealing-sign scandal ” I lost some respect for some guys” Trout considered the best player in the game, is trying to lead his Angels to their first postseason since 2014, continued: “You don’t know what helped them or what not,” he said. “But if you know what’s coming, it’s going to definitely help them.”

I don’t know if you take the trophy away or take the rings away, but they should definitely do something.” and continued on an obvious criticism of the Commissioner. About the punishment to players in the scandal, he added: “The players getting nothing, that’s definitely not right, for sure.”

On the other side of the country at Ft Myers Florida, Red Sox great David (Big Papi) Ortíz now retired an advisor for the team was defending Commissioner Manfred, at least giving Mr.Manfred the benefit of the doubt: “He’s going to do what’s best for the game.

He’s not the type of guy that’s going to accept you screwing things up in the game,” Ortiz said. “No, he’s good at making decisions. But people need to chillax and let him do his job. Players need to let him do what he thinks is better for the game and stop putting him on the spot and telling him what to do. That’s what I think should happen.”

These are two of the biggest stars in the game, Trout a future member of the Hall of Fame and Ortíz a sure thing in just a few years, they have totally different opinions. This divide is happening as we speak in baseball, baseball fans can’t stop talking about it, the players, the media eats-it up. At the end, you can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube. In my opinion, this whole thing was botched from the beginning.

I have great respect the Office of the Commissioner, and Mr.Manfred, but I believe he has shown little leadership since the story broke and continues to develop as more and more players are coming to the microphone to basically state their peace.

Will this 2020 season be overshadowed by this scandal? Can the beginning of the season make fans forgive all of this? How will the fans react? Are Astros hitters ready to be hit by pitches? It is a big baseball universe out there, we have 30 MLB clubs and many questions remains to be answered, plus players are furious and ready to strike over economic system and they seem to be united. MLBPA (Major League Baseball Players Association) has a lot of obstacles to clear in the next collective bargaining agreement.

More questions than answers, but for sure this 2020 season promises to be fascinating.

Cardinal stop four-game losing skid, defeats Huskies 72-64

Stanford snapped out of a four-game losing streak on Thursday at Hec Ed Arena in Seattle, as the Cardinal knocked off Washington 72-64, earning a badly needed win in Pac-12 men’s basketball.

Stanford has lost seven of eight games over the last month.

Oscar da Silva led the Cardinal with 16 points and nine rebounds. Tyrell Terry was next with 14 points and four assists, and Spencer Jones added 12 points.

Washington (12-15 overall, 2-12 Pac-12) had four players reach double-figure scoring — Isaiah Stewart with 14 points and three assists, Marcus Tsohonis with 11 points, and RaeQuon Battle and Nahziah Carter with 10 points each. Carter grabbed nine rebounds and Jamal Bey had eight boards.

Defensively, Stanford (17-9 overall, 6-7 Pac-12) held the Huskies to 35.5 percent shooting (22 of 62, 4 of 24 3-point), and forced 12 turnovers.

The Cardinal shot 47.3 percent from the field (26 of 55, 7 of 18 3-point), and made 13 of 19 free throws.

After taking a 37-35 halftime lead using an 8-4 run, Washington took a lead early in the second half on a four-point play by Battle, but the Cardinal forced UW to miss 16 of its next 17 shots. Stanford held the Huskies to eight field goals — scoreless for nearly 14 minutes — in the second half.

The needed win should improve Stanford’s postseason resume. After traveling to Washington State on Sunday, the Cardinal return home for key games against Utah and Colorado.

NJ’s Blackwood still on fire with 36 saves in 2-1 win over Sharks

photo from sfgate.com: New Jersey Devils center Pavel Zacha (37) pressures San Jose Sharks center Noah Gregor (73) in front of Devils goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood (29) during the third period of an NHL hockey game, Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, in Newark, N.J

~ By Pearl Allison Lo

~ New Jersey Devils’ rookie goalie MacKenzie Blackwood followed his 52-save outing previously, with another fine performance for his fifth straight win Thursday.

With an average of 39.2 saves and a goal allowed during that streak, he made 36 saves against San Jose while holding them to a solo goal.  The last time the Sharks scored less was February 1st.

Opposing goalie Martin Jones did not go down easy though, as he held his own, saving 23 of 25 shots.

The Devils now have wins in three straight home games, while the Sharks ended their hot four-game road streak.

On special teams, San Jose committed six penalties and New Jersey three. The game-winner occurred during the Shark’s fifth penalty.

Jacob Middleton for San Jose and the Devils’ John Hayden saw the box first at 7:26 for fighting. Middleton also tacked on an unsportsmanlike conduct. This gave Middleton a total of seven penalty minutes, his first as a member of the Sharks this year.

San Jose Barracuda call-ups were all featured in the opening scoring play. Alexander True in the faceoff circle recovered the puck, Middleton then got it, before passing cross-ice to Tim Heed. Heed put the first tally on the board through traffic from the far right point, with his first goal of the season in 27 games. It was also his second point of the season, with an assist back on November 12th.  Middleton earned his first assist and point in five games this season. True played his seventh game and earned his fourth assist, his second in as many games.

Stefan Noesen ended the period for the Sharks with a tripping call at 19:46.

The second period featured five penalties, four of them before any scoring and four of them involving interference.

New Jersey followed shortly after Noesen’s with Wayne Simmonds interfering 47 seconds into the second. Teammate P.K. Subban got called for the same infraction at 7:11. San Jose’s Dylan Gambrell decided to interfere too at 9:55. Teammate Melker Karlsson had the only non-interference penalty of the period, as he put the puck over the glass for a game delay.

Jesper Bratt put the Devils on board at 16:15, after taking a long pass from Pavel Zacha all the way at the other end. Bratt won the one-on-one battle versus the outstretched Jones, sliding the puck around his skate.

Mario Ferraro also delayed the game with a puck over the glass to start the third at 1:06. This one was costly though, as Subban scored the game-winner with 10 seconds left in the penalty.

With Miles Wood screening Jones, Subban converted from the top of the right faceoff circle to give New Jersey the only lead they would need.

Up Next: Dakota Mermis made his Devils’ debut and finished a +1 in 17:44 of ice time. San Jose’s “Melker Karlsson left in a walking boot.  He didn’t play in the third period,” reported Kevin Kurz of The Athletic. The Sharks continue their four-game road trip in the neighboring New state with the New York Rangers Saturday at 4pm.

That’s Amaury’s News and Commentary: Another Cespedes on his way

photo from wabctv.com: Yoenis Cespedes the former New York Mets outfielder

Another Céspedes on His Way

That’s Amaury News and Commentary

Amaury Pi-González

His name is Yoelkis Céspedes,he is 22 years old, half brother of ex-A’S,Red Sox,Tigers,Mets outfielder Yoenis Céspedes. Just like his older brother. Yoelkis plays the outfield. He is working out in the Bahamas 4 to 6 hours a day and hope to have a showcase coming in Arizona and Florida this March.

The younger Céspedes defected in June last year from the Cuban National Team that was in Canton,Ohio participating in the Cam-Am showcase. His debut was in 2015 when he hit .283 with 14 home-runs and stole 16 bases in 26 attempts. Participated in the WBC(World Baseball Classic)for Cuba, with Victor Victor Mesa and hit .250. Mesa was signed in 2019 by the Marlins.

Yoelkis Céspedes from the Gramna province of Cuba has been scouted for years, considered a five-tool player, faster and more athletic than his brother Yoenis, but with lower potential for home run power, remains a big international prospect.

“Es un orgullo que me comparen con mi hermano” -trans: “It’s a pride to be compared to my brother” said the young Yoelkis. It is unknown if he(like his brother)will release a video of his talents. Yoenis Céspedes began his career with the Oakland Athletics in 2012 and played for the Green and Gold until 2014 when the very popular left fielder was traded to the Boston Red Sox, since then he has played for two more teams, however he missed all of the 2019 season and could miss the entire 2020 season, his status(officially by the Mets) is unknown.

Suffered multiple ankle fractures in May 2019 at his ranch in Boca Ratón,Florida, during a non-baseball activity. During his seven year career Yoenis is a .274 hitter with 163 home-runs and 524 runs batted-in. One of the best and most accurate arms from left field in the game.

As far as Yoelkis Céspedes. Teams are lining-up and their scouts are anxious to see the youngest Céspedes. It could be very soon. The waiting game is on.
