Bay FC Match wrap: Fishlock gets the game winner for Seattle edge Bay FC 3-2

SAN JOSE–Bay FC looked to avenge their disappointing midweek loss against Seattle Reign FC on Saturday evening. But in the end the Reign got a winning score late in the match in the 85th minute by Jess Fishlock for a 3-2 win against Bay FC.

Seattle got out to a very early lead in the sixth minute, as a low cross found the foot of Mia Fishel right in front of the goal. Bay’s goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz was forced to make a big save moments later, as a collision between Caroline Conti and a Seattle midfielder resulted in an attacking opportunity for the Reign with minimal defense. Her work wasn’t anywhere near done, though, as less than a minute later, she was forced to make another diving save after a dangerous free kick opportunity by the Reign.

A counterattacking opportunity for Seattle saw Maddie Dahlien make it 2-0 for the visitors after a through-ball passed right between the legs of Bay FC’s captain, Sydney Collins, for an easy goal. 

Bay FC got one back in the 13th minute, when Hannah Bebar scored her first career NWSL goal to make it a 2-1 game. Less than 10 minutes later, the game would seemingly be level as Dorian Bailey was able to take advantage of a scramble in front of the goal. Her shot hit Claudia Dickey in the gloves, but ricocheted into the back of the net; for the second time this week, a Bay FC goal was disallowed for a controversial offside decision.

Jordan Silkowitz made another big save just after the half-hour mark, but for the second game in a row, she went down holding her back. She remained in the game after another slight delay.

Mia Fishel was shown the first yellow card of the night in the 47th minute, as she blocked a free-kick attempt from an improper position, delaying the game. Moments later, Dorian Bailey was shown a yellow card for a jersey-pull tackle just outside of the box. 

Seattle retained their 2-1 lead heading into the half-time break. Bay made a single substitution to start the second half, swapping Alex Pfieffer into the game for Sydney Collins. 

Caroline Conti was shown a yellow card in the 52nd minute, Bay’s second of the night. Bay then had an entertaining display of passing around the hour mark, which nearly generated a chance for Claire Hutton, but the referee was out of position, blocking the shooting lane inadvertently. Sam Meza was shown Seattle’s second yellow card in the 64th minute. 

Caroline Conti and Karlie Lema exited the match for Keira Barry and Taylor Huff in the 66th minute as Bay was hunting for an equalizer. That equalizer would come less than ten minutes later, as Barry scored her first goal with Bay FC, after a perfectly timed off-ball run up the wing to make it a 2-2 game. In the 84th minute, Bay made another pair of substitutions, bringing on veterans Abby Dahlkemper and Cristiana Girelli to close out the game. At the same time, Nerilia Mondesir was shown a yellow card for Seattle. 

In the 85th minute, Seattle restored their lead, making it 3-2 with a goal scored by Jess Fishlock, who had just entered the match moments earlier.

Seattle would hold on to their lead this time, walking away with a 3-2 victory. As a result, Bay FC failed to record a single point during their three-game week. 

Giants Lose A Heartbreaking Walk-Off To Padres 6-5 After Tying Up the Game In the Eighth Inning

The San Francisco Giants (47-63) have really struggled when they fall behind early in games. They scored early in game one of their series with the San Diego Padres (56-54) and won that game. They were shutout in game two losing that game 7-0.

They fell behind in game three Saturday trailing 2-0 but not only tied up the game but took the lead in the third inning. Home runs had played a huge role in the early innings of this game. In the third inning Osleivis Basabe hit a two-run home run and the game was tied.

They went on to load the bases and the Padres walked in a run giving San Francisco the 3-2 lead. The lead was short-lived when in the fourth inning the Padre’s Freddie Fermin hit a two-run homer taking back the lead 4-3.

It remained a one-run game going into the top of the sixth inning. The Padres scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning taking the 5-3 lead into the eighth inning. Padres closer Mason Miller took the mound looking to get out of a sticky situation with the bases loaded and one out.

Miller got the second out but gave up a Basabe double driving Adames and Devers home to tie up the game at 5-5. It was a new ball game. San Francisco had a great chance in the ninth inning but could not come up with timely hits and let the Padres walked this one off 6-5.

GAME RECAP

The first at bat the Giants Bryce Eldridge hit a single in the first inning but the Padres starting pitcher Walker Buehler finished off the inning. San Diego got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning.

With two outs, Manny Machado walked followed by a Ty France single and a Jackson Merrill double. The Merrill double drove both Machado and France home for a 2-0 lead. As we have seen far too often the Giants again fell behind early.

The second inning was a good one for both pitchers going three and out. Despite the rough opening inning, Tyler Mahle remained in the game and had a really good inning.

San Francisco was now looking at playing from behind. They got a single from Drew Gilbert to start the third inning trying to get a rally going. Basabe batting last delivered a two-run home run and this game was tied.

Back-to-back-to-back singles loaded the bases for San Francisco and Buehler walked a run in and the Giants took a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the third. Mahle gave up a single in the inning but nothing else and the Giants took the lead into the fourth inning.

The Giants only managed a Drew Gilbert single to start the fourth. Koss hit into a double play and Basabe grounded out. In the bottom of the fourth Luis Rengifo reached first base on a walk and Freddy Fermin hit a two run home run taking back the lead for the Padres for 4-3 lead.

San Francisco had two runners on base with one out in the top of the fifth inning but left them both stranded. The Giants again left runners standed. Mahle had another nice inning for the Giants in the bottom of the fifth going three and out.

The Giants did not get much going in the top of the sixth inning still trailing 4-3. The Padres however did extend their lead in the bottom of the inning. With two outs, San Diego’s Xavier Bogaerts singled reaching second base on a balk. Fermin singled Bogaerts home and the Padres had a 5-3 lead. Keaton Winn had relieved Mahle on the mound in the sixth inning looking to keep San Francisco in this game.

It was three and out for the Giants in the top of the seventh inning. Although only two runs behind, it was getting late in the game and they were six outs away from another loss. Winn held up his end of the deal only giving up a single but getting out of the inning.

There was a change on the mound for San Diego in the eighth inning. Jeremiah Estrada was the third relief pitcher for the Padres in this game. San Francisco needed hits and they got a Rafael Devers singled and an Adames walk.

With two runners on base and no outs the Giants had a great shot at a rally with Daniel Susac at the plate. Susac singled and San Francisco again had the bases loaded. Drew Gilbert struck out for the first out, San Diego was two outs away from getting out of the inning and there was a change on the mound the Padres bringing in the “Reaper” closer extraordinaire Mason Miller.

He got the second out at the expense of Grant McCray. When it looked like the Padres would get out of the inning, Basabe who was having a terrific game doubled Adames and Susac home and this game was tied 5-5. The game went into the ninth inning all locked up.

Miller stayed in the game in the top of the ninth inning facing Jung Hoo Lee. The Giants already had 12 hits in the game and needed just a few more with a great chance to win this game. Miller struck out Lee, he went on to strike out Heliot Ramos and with two outs walked Rafael Devers.

Willy Adames popped out for the third out. There were no timely hits for the Giants when they were so badly needed. San Francisco’s Dylan Smith would take the mound looking to take this game into extra innings. On a 3-2 pitch Bogaerts doubled with no outs. A perfect Fermin bunt advanced Bogaerts to third base with one out.

San Francisco got the second out and they intentionally walked Fernando Tatis Jr. needing one more out to go into extra innings. They couldn’t come up with that final out. Jake Cronenworth singled and Bogaerts scored for the walk-off 6-5. The Padres had some quality hits in the bottom of the ninth clinching the win.

GAME NOTES

San Diego took control of this game Saturday night. They scored early and kept the pressure on San Francisco making them come from behind several times. The Padres put runs on the board early and never completely let the Giants settle in.The Padres excelled in three phases -pitching, defense and timely hitting.

The San Diego starting pitcher Walker Buehler gave the Padres a quality start. He kept the Giants from stringing together rallies and forced them to play from behind. The Padres bullpen slammed the door on San Francisco. Once Buehler was relieved the Giants didn’t get many chances to mount a comeback. The Padres got timely hits with runners on base instead of leaving opportunities stranded. Their offense was more efficient than the Giants.

San Francisco had their chances in this game. The failed to get the big hits when they needed them the most. This kept them from building any sustained offense. Despite having more hits in this game than San Diego their hits were not timely where the Padres got hits when they were needed the most. All in all the Giants put up a heck of a fight but just came up short.

Mahle went 5 2/3 innings allowing five hits, five earned runs two walks with nine strikeouts. Giant relief pitchers Keaton Winn, Caleb Kilian, and Dylan Smith were solid with only Smith giving up a run in the ninth for the San Diego walk-off win.

Buehler pitched 4 1/3 innings allowing eight hits, three earned runs, two walks with one strikeout. Padre relief pitchers Wandy Peralta, Adrian Morejon, Jeremiah Estrada and Mason Miller got the job done with the two tying runs given up by Estrada.

Sunday in game four San Francisco will be looking to tie up the series after this disappointing loss. Landon Roupp will take the mound for San Francisco with a 7-9 win/loss record and a 4.12 ERA. The Padres plan on starting Michael King. He has a 6-7 win/loss record and a 3.38 ERA. First pitch for game four is scheduled for 1:10 PM.

Padres Offense Too Hot To Handle for Giants – SF Loses In a Shutout 7-0; Giants Bader suspended without pay for bike accident

The San Francisco Giants (47-63) got a great start in their series with the San Diego Padres (56-54) taking a 4-1 win Thursday night and Friday night the Giants failed to extend a win in the second game getting shutout 7-0.

The Padres have decided on a starting pitcher. Bradgley Rodriguez, relief pitcher, will start this game. He has an ERA of 2.33. The Giants wil go with Carson Whisenhunt. He comes into the game with a 2-1 win/loss record and a 4.60 ERA.

Thursday the Giants got an early lead but Friday’s the top of the Padre’s lineup gave San Diego an early lead 2-0. It was the San Diego big guns Fernando Tatis Jr, Manny Machado and Luis Rengifo getting the job done.

The Padres continued to extend their lead scoring runs in the third and fourth innings taking a 6-0 lead half way through the game. San Francisco only had one hit through four innings, the Padres had eight hits.

GAME RECAP

San Diego starting pitcher Bradgley Rodriguez had a one two three first inning. Giants starting pitcher Carson Whisenhunt struggled in the bottom of the inning. Tatis Jr. doubled followed by a Luiz Rengifo single and the Padres had runners at first and third with one out.

Machado sacrificed Tatis Jr. home for the first run of the game. Ty France walked and San Diego now with two outs had runners on first and second. Luis Campusano singled Rengifo home and the Padres had a 2-0 lead. Whisenhunt finally got out of the inning but it had been a tough start.

Yuki Matsui relieved Rodriguez in the top of the second inning. He dismissed the Giants one two three; a nice start for both of the San Diego pitchers. The Giants got out of the bottom of the second inning although Whisenhunt did give up a single and a walk.

Matsui got the job done in the top of the third inning only giving up a single. The Padres got to work in the bottom of the third scoring another run now leading 3-0. France got the inning going with a single.

France was thrown out at second when Merrill grounded into a fielders choice. Campusano singled and Merrill advanced to third scoring when Xander Bogaerts grounded into a double play. San Diego had now taken a 3-0 lead.

Matsui had another solid inning in the fourth going three and out and the Giants offense was having a rough day at the plate with only one hit through four innings. There was no stopping the Padre offense in Friday’s game.

Jase Bowen (bottom of the batting order) had a monster hit in the bottom of the fourth hitting the ball into the third deck. It was his first big league home run and it gave the Padres a 4-0 lead.

After two walks and the home run there was a change on the mound for the Giants. Adrian Houser relieved Whisenhunt facing Machado with only one out. Machado flied out but Tatis Jr and Rengifo both advanced stealing second and third base.

This was Tatis Jr’s 26th steal of the season and Rengifo’s fifth. France singled both Tatis Jr. and Rengifo home and the Padres were cruising leading 6-0 going into the fifth inning.

German Marquez relieved Matsui in the fifth inning. He was also outstanding dismissing the Giants going three and out. Houser gave up a couple of singles in the bottom of the fifth but kept the Padres from scoring.

Luis Arraez got the Giants second hit of the game but that was the only offensive action in the sixth inning for San Francisco. In the bottom of the sixth Machado just missed hitting a home run hitting a double off the wall.

San Diego had two runners on base, Rengifo on third and Machado at second. France sacrificed Rengifo home and the hit parade continued for San Diego. With a 7-0 lead the Padres put this game on ice.

The game went into the top of the eighth inning and the Giants were six outs away from losing the second game of the series. It was also a quick bottom of the eighth.

German Marquez closed out the game shutting out the Giants 7-0. They did it with excellent offense and timely hitting and their pitching was outstanding. The Giants just could not get going coming away with only two hits in this game.

GAME NOTES

This game got away from the Giants quickly. Starting pitcher Whisenhunt couldn’t keep the Padres’ lineup in check. San Diego scored runs in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings.

The Giants offense was almost non-existent . They only managed a couple of hits through six innings. They were unable to put sustained pressure on the Padres’ pitchers. The Padres on the other hand consistently hitting with runners on base and preventing San Francisco from getting any momentum. The Giants just could not make adjuistments against the San Diego pitching.

The Padres got production throughout the lineup. Tatis Jr. set the tone at the top of the lineup by getting on base and helping create scoring opportunities. Machado came through with key hits that drove in runs and kept the pressure on San Francisco.

Bogaerts added timely RBI hits to extend their lead and Merrill was also good with run-producing at-bats as the Padres continued to pile on the offense all night. It was a memorable night for Jase Bowen hitting his first big league home run, a dandy flying into the third deck of the stadium.

It was a rough night for Whisenhunt. He pitched through 3 1/3 innings allowing seven hits, six earned runs, four walks with three strikeouts. Houser went 4 2/3 innings allowing five hits, one earned run, one walk with three strikeouts. The entire game was a one-sided affair.

Giants team president Buster Posey has suspended outfielder Harrison Bader’s salary while the Giants investigate a scooter crash that further injured Bader’s previous injured left foot. Sources said that Bader hit the back of a Fire Truck in downtown San Francisco on Sunday. The accident happened before the Giants hosted the Los Angeles Angels at Oracle Park last Sun Jul 26th. The source said that Bader was drunk at the time. The Giants are investigating if that is true or not.

“Over the weekend, Harrison Bader was involved in an accident that has delayed Harrison’s prior treatment timeline for plantar fasciitis and, unfortunately, his return to the field,” Posey said in a statement. “We are still investigating the circumstances of the accident but will be suspending payment to Harrison until he is able to resume performing services for the Club.”

Game three in this series will get underway Friday with first pitch scheduled for 5:40 PM. Tyler Mahle will take the mound for the Giants. He has a 3-9 win/loss record and a 4.96 ERA. The Padres will start Walker Buehler. His win/loss record is 6-5 and he has an ERA of 5.13.

Oakland about to lose another Sports team?

OAKLAND–In the 1970s, the City of Oakland had the moniker City of Champions;  remember a big banner in front of Oakland City Hall  that read “Oakland City of Champions, however, things have changed since then.

The Oakland Roots are facing a serious financial dispute of $1.4 million in overdue rent plus game-day expenses owed to the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority. The team says it has paid upcoming fees in advance so they can keep playing. Team President Lindsay Barenz confirmed that the fees for the upcoming Saturday (August 1st) home match against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds have been paid in advance, ensuring the game will go on.

Unfortunately, these days the City of Oakland is well-known in sports because it cannot keep its professional sports teams in town. The Warriors left for San Francisco in 2019; they were followed by the Raiders in 2020, who packed and moved to Las Vegas, and then the Athletics in 2024, now temporarily playing in Sacramento with a final stop and new home in Las Vegas in 2028. This is unprecedented for an American city in recent history.

The Oakland Alameda-County Coliseum is a huge sports facility that seats 50,000 to 60,000 depending on what sport is played. The average home attendance for the Oakland Roots Soccer Club this 2026 USL Championship season is between 5,000 to 6,000 spectators.

Recently, Marketing Guru Andy Dolich, who was in charge of the Marketing for the Oakland A’s, said that the Roots need to play in a smaller venue, and I totally agree with Andy. This is what he said: “They should be playing in a smaller venue. They should find the right venue in which they know, early on, that they’ll sell out”

Is Oakland about to lose this Fútbol/Soccer team the same year that the FIFA World Cup took place in the United States, which was a great success financially and culturally? I hope not, but time will tell.

On the Oakland positive: The Oakland Ballers Baseball team of the Pioneer League started play in 2024, and they play their home games in Raimondi Park, Oakland. Our friend Lewis Rubman has been covering the B’s for this site since they first started play.

Bears moving? The Chicago Bears of the NFL have officially announced they have plans to build a new stadium in Hammond, Indiana, which is located in Northwest Indiana, just across the state line from Chicago. The Chicago Bears have played at Soldier Field in Chicago for 55 years. The move is expected to happen, but they have not yet determined the site for the new stadium and what year they will have their first kickoff in Indiana.

Began as Oakland A’s Spanish-language voice in 1977 ending in 2024 (interrupted by stops with the Giants, Mariners and Angels). Giants Cruise Past Padres In Series Opener 4-1

The San Francisco Giants (47-62) took on the San Diego Padres (55-54) Thursday night in the first game of their four-game series winning at Petco Park in San Deigo. The Giants have been on a roll lately taking a series off the first place Milwaukee Brewers earlier this week.

San Francisco continues to amaze at times losing to underperforming teams and going on to beat some pretty darn good ones. It certainly is puzzling, the ebb and flow of the team this season.

Thursday night they took on another very good team the Padres although they have struggled off and on lately. They did come into this game on a 5-game winning streak that the Giants put an end to.

San Francisco did score early, three runs in the first two innings something that they have struggled with for much of the season. Starting pitcher for San Francisco Robbie Ray was outstanding through six innings setting the stage for the win. The relief pitching for the Giants was equally solid in an impressive offensive and defensive game for San Francisco winning the opener 4-1.

GAME RECAP

The San Francisco Giants have struggled lately getting early leads but that was not the case tonight. They took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Rafael Devers sacrificed Heliot Ramos home.

They went on to score a couple more runs in the second inning with a great offensive at bat from Daniel Susac. Susac homered with Willy Adames on base giving the Giants a 3-0 lead.

The Padres would answer scoring a run in the bottom of the inning but that would be the only time they would score for the rest of the game. Xander Bogaerts singled Ty France home for a 3-1 deficit.

Starting for the Giants Robbie Ray would weave his magic through the next six innings winning his seventh straight start. He was impresssive snapping the Padres five-game winning streak. Ray gave up a few hits through the first three innings but pretty much breezed through the fourth, fifth and sixth innings when he was relieved by Caleb Kilian.

The Giants would tack on one more run in the fifth inning for the final 4-1 win.Susac who was instrumental in this win sacrificed Rafael Devers home for the final run and the Giants had won the first game of the four-game series.

GAME NOTES

San Francisco played an impressive game Thursday night. They jumped ahead early scoring in the first and second innings. Defensively they controlled the strike zone and the Giant’s pitching shut down San Diego’s middle of the lineup.

The Padres only got six hits in this game and the one run and their big bats were really absent, Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. were unable to create any sort of rally. Something that has hurt the Giants this season has been big mistake innings and that was not the case Thursday night. They played some really clean baseball.

A huge reason for this win was the outstanding performance on the mound from Robbie Ray. He pitched six innings allowing the one run keeping the San Diego lineup off balance all night.

Ray’s command was excellent attacking the strike zone giving very few free baserunners. He did not overly rely on his fast ball but mixed it up. He got a lot of swings and misses as well as weak contact.

It is not a secret that San Diego has some dangerous hitters like Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr but Ray kept them at bay all night. This is just another example of why Ray has been one of the Giant’s most valuable pitchers this season.

He entered this game with a 3.16 ERA. In this outing Ray exposed one of the Padres biggest weakness. When San Diego falls behind early they have a lot of trouble stringing together enough quality at-bats making comebacks very difficult.

San Francisco finished the game with 11 hits. Rafael Devers had three hits with one run and one RBI. Susac was also impressive hitting the two run homer and had 3 RBIs. Nearly every player on the Giants roster had a hit in the game.

The Giants will be looking to win game two of the series continuing to score early with more solid offensive play. Their defense was solid today and they will need more of the same in game two looking to play an errorless game on Friday night.

Carson Whisenhunt will take the mound for San Francisco. He comes into the game with a 2-1 win/loss record and a 4.60 ERA. The Padres are still undecided as to who will take the mound Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 PM.

#1 Boston Red Sox sluggers Wilyer Abreau and Wilson Contreras hit back to back home runs in the top of the eighth inning to help the Sox edge the Sacramento A’s at Sutter Health Park on Thursday night 5-4.

#2 The Sox Ceddanne Rafaela had two hits for two RBIS and the Sox came back from behind in the top of the eighth for the comeback victory.

#3 The win for the Sox was their eighth in their last 12 games. The A’s lose the four game set to Boston losing three out four.

#1 Len, talk about the San Jose Sharks Macklin Celebrini’s recent contract extension worth $94 million for five years worth $18 million which is a signing bonus?

#2 The Minnesota Wild met with Quinn Hughes on Tuesday. Hughes still has a year left on his $47.1 million contract with annual pay out of $7.85 million that contract ends July 1st 2027. He will finish his last year with the Wild of his contract that he signed with the Vancouver Canucks.

#3 Len, talk about the two year contract that goaltender Stuart Skinner signed on Jul 1st after spliting last year with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers. Skinner joins the Winnipeg Jets and will be a back up goaltender for Connor Hellebuyck. Skinner was 23-17-9 with a 2.92 goals against average.

#4 The Columbus Blue Jackets Cole Sillinger said that the players are obligated to get the Jackets to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Sillinger signed with the Jackets for $13.875 million, $4.625 million annual, for three years. Sillinger said he was ready to help lead the Jackets to the post season.

#5 Former Detroit Red Wing Patrick Kane said he was glad to play for the Red Wings and made friends with former teammate Alex DeBrincat and said that he would like have been a part in helping the Wings get to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Some of the reasons why Kane left Detroit might have been that Dylan Larkin requested a trade, Steve Yzerman as GM, and Chicago Blackhawks owner Danny Wirtz called Kane as soon as his free agency became available.

Aces Get Past New York In a Wild Game With An Even Wilder Finish 104-99

The Las Vegas Aces (20-8) took on the New York Liberty (16-13) in was a highly competitive game between the two rivals. The Aces got a grip on Liberty with a 104-99 win at Michelob ULTRA Arena.

The Aces came out on fire with Jackie Young leading the charge hitting 22 points in the first half.

They took a 52-44 lead into the half and would need more of the same in the third quarter. The Liberty made some needed adjustments in the second half still unable to take the lead but getting to within a single point.

When it got so very close, the Aces pushed back taking a 70-61 lead with 3:25 left in the third. With a lot of time left on the clock this game was still up for grabs. A’Ja Wilson came alive in the third quarter scoring 18 points finishing with 28 through three quarters giving Las Vegas a 79-71 lead going into the fourth.

The final quarter was a wild one with the Aces coming out on top 104-99. There were some key plays down the stretch for Las Vegas and a little bit of luck thrown in as well.

GAME RECAP

The Liberty got off to a great start in the early minutes of the first quarter but the Aces came roaring back with Jackie Young taking charge. After less than four minutes into the quarter Young was on a heater leading the comeback rally giving the Aces a 14-12 lead. She demonstrated her ability to hit three-point shots going 3 of 3.

As the opening quarter wore on this game was off the charts competitive with the lead changing back and forth throughout. After the first ten minutes of play Las Vegas was hanging onto a 27-26 lead.

Las Vegas continued to fight back in an effort to push out their lead in the second quarter. Jackie Young had an incredible quarter scoring 22 points in the first half. She was on fire and the Liberty were unable to extinguish that fire.

A’Ja Wilson also had double digits in the first half but it was Young who had the hot hand. At the half the Aces had created a 52-44 lead. It was Las Vegas who was dictating the pace taking more and more control of this game throughout the second quarter.

The Aces hit 8 shots from downtown in the first half while the Liberty only hit four. Las Vegas had put themselves in a strong position although an eight point lead is not a safe lead against a team with the likes of Breanna Steward and Sabrina Ionescu aboard. Second-chance points could swing this game in the second half.

New York could not afford to give the Aces extra possessions. If Steward and Ionescu really get going attacking the paint then the Aces would have to work a lot harder getting open shots and they cannot have any sort of breakdown. We will for sure see some major adjustments from the Liberty and how the Aces handle that could very well determine the winner of this game.

There were fireworks in the first half of this game and the third quarter displayed more fireworks. After the Aces had pushed their lead out to 54-44, the Liberty pushed back and two minutes into the quarter New York was trailing by only four points 58-54.

The Liberty had even more energy than in the first half and they were making a real push in a one-possession ball-game four minutes into the quarter. Las Vegas needed to regain the energy they had in the first half.

The Aces were in foul trouble with Chelsea Gray and Nalyssa Smith both with four personals. A’Ja Wilson had hit 18 points in the quarter with 30 seconds left in the clock. Going into the fourth quarter Las Vegas had a 79-71 lead and they would need to continue to elevate their play to finish off this game.

The Aces started off the fourth quarter stripping the ball from Breanna Stewart and the race was on. After taking a ten-point lead the Liberty cut the Aces lead in half. They were not going down without a fight.

Despite getting close the Liberty had still been unable to take the lead although threatening throughout the fourth quarter. Both teams were coming away with empty possessions with 3:36 remaining in the game.

Las Vegas was still clinging to a 92-87 lead. It was crunch time in the final two minutes of the game with Las Vegas taking a 98-93 lead with 55 ticks left on the clock. Chelsea Gray fouled out with 20 seconds left in the game giving Ionescu a couple of free throws.

She made both but the Aces got a huge break when the officials missed a call that would have given the Liberty the ball trailing by 3 points with ample time to tie up this game. Las Vegas went on to win the game 104-99.

GAME NOTES

It was a wild game for Las Vegas. Both teams played their hearts out this game going down to the wire. An unfortunate break late in the fourth quarter for New York occurred when the officials missed a call that solidified the 104-99 win for the Aces.

A’Ja Wilson found her groove in the second half finishing with 33 points and 10 rebounds, a double double. Jackie Young had 29 points and Chelsea Gray finished with 16 points before fouling out.

This was an outstanding game for both teams and it was unfortunate when the officials, all three of them, missed a critical call that hurt the Liberty when they would have had then opportunity to at least tie up this game.

Not to diminish the Las Vegas effort but the bottom line is that these officials really blew it in the closing seconds something that cannot happen in a game the caliber of this one.

Brenna Ionescu had the high for the Liberty with 26 points and 11 rebounds also with a double double and Pauline Astier chipping in 19 points.

The Aces will now head out on the road; their first stop in Chicago taking on the Sky. They will face some challenges on this road trip with stops in Atlanta, Indiana, Minnesota and finally finishing off the trip taking on the Liberty once again. They will take it one game at a time with their first road matchup Saturday in Chicago with tipoff scheduled for 10:00 AM.
