Sacramento A’s relocation podcast Daniel Dullum:

#1 The Athletics organization announced this week that they have moved forward on the construction of their Las Vegas ball park. The A’s sent a development agreement request to Clark County. The A’s have received a building permit to develop concrete work for $87 million.

#2 The development describes how the ball park will be constructed and the operations of the park and it was delivered to Clark County. A’s vice chairman Sandy Dean said that he was hopeful that the agreement will be heard by the Clark County Commission after officials review the documents.

#3 Clark County will set the agenda in a October meeting regarding the development agreement and zoning meeting in late September and a public hearing in October.

#4 Land permits were approved by Clark County and gave the A’s the ability to begin working on the development agreements and to keep the ball park construction on schedule and for the planned completion by 2028.

#5 The A’s will be paying for all costs that Clark County approves on the development agreement. Once the A’s spend their first $100 million. A’s Relocation podcast Daniel Dullum:

#1 Sacramento A’s owner John Fisher says that the cost of the Las Vegas ballpark will grow to $2 billion. Fisher. Fisher and the A’s had a deadline to meet last December to come up with their share of the construction costs at the tune of $1.75 billion but it’s still a question does John Fisher have the money even after the ground breaking on Monday.

#2 Even baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said he hoped that the shovels in the ground “puts to bed the doubt as to where they’re going to be in 2028.” Still at the Monday presser no one came out and said that the A’s have funded their share of the construction costs.

#3 Daniel, do you think that this press conference Monday was designed to quell any doubts that the media or the public may have that the A’s and the Las Vegas Stadium Authority are ready with the financials to move forward with the ballpark project.

#4 A’s executive Sandy Dean was asked if Fisher has the money for the construction costs. Then why would he have to sell the San Jose Earthquakes. Dean said that” the project is independent of the Earthquakes.”

#5 Manfred said regarding any shot of an expansion team possibility for Oakland could be in the future. Manfred was frustrated with how negotiations went with former Oakland Mayor Sheng that the way he feels now there would be no way there would ever be another MLB team in Oakland again. Manfred also he didn’t want to talk about potential expansion sites.

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast:

#1 Frank Sharpe who is director of sports architecture for Bjarke Ingles Group the design firm for the Las Vegas A’s ballpark said that part of the design was to take the Vegas summer heat was to climate control the indoor park but to still give it that outdoor feel.

#2 Sharpe also said that portions of the armadillo shaped ballpark will have a 36,000 square foot glass curtain wall that will be in the outfield and give the fans a view of the strip and will have sunlight coming into the stadium.

#3 Athletics vice chairman Sandy Dean said that construction from a team of about 100 contractors have been working on the designs and had refined the renderings since the display was first presented in June 2023 when the A’s first announced they would be relocating to Vegas.

#4 The A’s ballpark will have six levels and will be all indoors and it will feel like a large arena with additional designs in the process according to Emily Louchart director of interiors with HNTB design firm.

#5 Louchart said that the park will have 20 suites, and 17 to 20 seat choices and nine lounge club spaces. That’s going to be quite luxury box.

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum: Schools over Stadiums says public money going to Hollywood studios; Schools over Studios protested funding at Nevada Assembly Committee Thursday

#1 In December Athletics team president Sandy Dean said that the A’s are in the early stages of getting construction organized with Clark County (Las Vegas) back on Dec 5th. As of yet there is no report that the A’s have come up with the $1.75 billion for their share of the construction costs for the Vegas ballpark.

#2 The A’s are looking for loan help from Goldman Sachs and US Bank and Dean was pretty definite that those loans will be coming to the rescue. Some in the media have now questioned it’s been past the deadline Dec 2024 set by the Nevada Assembly for SB1 funding at $380 million that would be triggered when the A’s come up with their share of the construction costs. Could there be doubts that maybe this money may not happen at all?

#3 Schools over Stadiums spokesman Alexander Marks who previously protested and litigated against the A’s Vegas ballpark. Schools over Stadiums are now trying to stop the Nevada Legislature from spending more public money with a new senate bill that would fund Hollywood Studios with AB238. The bill would provide $80 million in tax credits from 2028 to 2043 and require at least $400 million to be invested into Nevada. The cost to fund the Hollywood studios where all filming would be in Nevada would be $20 million more than what the state will be paying for the Las Vegas A’s ballpark.

#4 Schools over Stadiums also named Schools over Studio for fighting the Hollywood funding has two fronts to fight. Schools over Stadiums had a meeting Thursday at the Assembly Committee on Revenue to argue their case that public money that should go to schools and not go to pay for Hollywood Studios productions to the tune of $400 million plus getting 15 years of tax credits.

#5 Schools over Stadiums knows they’re efforts to stop the A’s Vegas ballpark looks almost nil if the A’s come up with their share of the construction costs for the park. Schools over Stadiums still needs 102,586 signatures from four districts in Southern Nevada to sign a petition that would put an initiative on the ballot to stop public funding for SB1 the A’s ballpark. That signature drive has not launched as of yet.

#1 Those who are following the progress of the Athletics new Las Vegas Stadium project ask the ongoing question when will construction get off the ground for the new park on the corner of Las Vegas Blvd and Tropicana Blvd?

#2 The A’s and Clark County are still working out the details of how funding will go to begin the process of the ground breaking for the Tropicana Park which be build on nine acres on the 35 acre property of the old Tropicana.

#3 The cost overruns since the A’s and the Las Vegas Stadium Authority came to an agreement in 2023 have increased to from $1.5 billion to $1.75 billion and A’s president Sandy Dean said that talks are in the early stages with Clark County on how the money will be spent on construction.

#4 Ground breaking is scheduled around March 2025. The nuts and bolts of getting the construction of the park underway is between April and June 2025 with a target date of completion of March 2028.

#5 Right now Dean says the A’s need to get funding from Clark County to cover land use, zoning, traffic and parking plans, design, occupancy details and needed offsite improvements.

Athletics Relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum: Did fans and media put the pressure on Kaval to eventually resign?

On the Athletics Relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum:

#1 The reaction of the resignation of A’s president David Kaval is one of good riddance in commentaries on social media, main stream media and by former Oakland A’s fans.

#2 Kaval had once said that the A’s are rooted in Oakland when all of that changed in June 2023 when Kaval announced the A’s had a binding deal to move to Las Vegas that was pretty much the beginning of the end of any hope to stay in Oakland but also Kaval is remembered for rubber stamping the idea rather resigning right then and there instead of doing it after Christmas 2024.

#3 Daniel, do you feel the resignation of Kaval was caused by all the last two years of criticism from fans, media, MLB fans around the country, social media, the heart break of the A’s moving out of Oakland and that Kaval was the face of this move.

#4 To what degree does the announcement have a shock value or are people really surprised at all considering the way this relocation had been handled. No money for the construction costs have been announced for the Vegas ballpark as of yet. Did owner John Fisher’s role in all of this and getting negative reaction from the fans and media prove too much for Kaval where he just really had no choice but to walk away?

#5 Fisher family business associate Sandy Dean who had spoke at multiple Las Vegas Stadium Authority meetings in helping cement the financial plans to finance the Vegas ballpark will take over Kaval’s job as team president.

A’s have financial house in order, ready to come up with $1.75 billion for ballpark construction costs

In a meeting Thursday with the Las Vegas Stadium Authority the Sacramento A’s soon to be the Las Vegas A’s in 2028 have come up with the financing of their share of the construction costs to pay for their Tropicana Las Vegas Strip ballpark which should be ready to go opening day 2028.

The Las Vegas Authority is expected to approve a 30 years lease on the A’s non relocation and development that consisted of four documents that should be the last step to clear the way to get shovels in the ground at the intersection of Tropicana and Las Vegas Blvd.

Clark County will continue to discuss a develop agreement otherwise the target to begin groundbreaking in spring 2025. Both Clark County and the State of Nevada are going forward with SB1 public funding for the ballpark at the cost of $380 billion, the A’s say they will spend $350 million to build the 30,000 seat armadillo looking ballpark.

The State of Nevada will not spend the $380 million until the A’s have put in $100 million. So for the A’s have invested $40 million. The deadline to meet the construction costs for the A’s share was due Thursday which they cleared in their meeting with the Stadium Authority.

Sandy Dean an A’s executive whose been a spokesman for owner John Fisher at previous Stadium Authority meetings said that Fisher’s family have increased their construction pledge to $1.1 billion. Dean said that Goldman Sachs and U.S. Bank will loan the A’s $300 million towards the development.

The four documents that Dean presented to the Las Vegas Stadium Authority are: #1 A loan commitment from both banks. #2 Fisher and his family have the ability to meet their financial pledge. #3 The commitments to Athletics StadCo LLC, an entity created to handle the private capital investment. #4 U.S. Bank’s review of the owner’s finances backs up that Fisher has the money in place.

On the Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast with Daniel:

#1 This week it was reported the A’s will pay $1 billion into their Las Vegas ballpark on the Las Vegas Strip at the old Tropicana site. Golden Sachs and US Bank also are contributing another $300 million in loan money towards the project. The $1 billion from the A’s is funded from owner John Fisher and his family.

#2 Fisher had tried to find investors to buy minority portions of A’s ownerships and tried to find local investors in Las Vegas as well going on a good portion of the year since December 2024 when the MLB owners approved the move to Vegas to find minority investors. Not having success in finding partners Fisher has teamed up with his family to pay the $1 billion.

#3 With the rising appreciation of Major League teams who have their own park and amenities Fisher convinced his family that this would be an investment that will no doubt have big returns. The A’s could appreciate their current worth from $1.5 billion to $3 billion once they are at their new Las Vegas digs.

#4 A meeting scheduled with the Las Vegas Stadium Authority headed by Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce CEO Steven Hill for December 5th to put the final vote for final approval and towards breaking ground at the Tropicana for the ballpark. Construction is expected to begin in March and the ballpark should be finished with a opening day target date of 2028.

#5 Long shot: Schools over Stadiums has hardly given up hope to stop the public funding of SB1. Alexander Marks Schools over Stadium spokesman who has attended many of the ballpark meetings at the Las Vegas Stadium Authority has spoke many times against the funding of public money being used when it should be used for public education. Marks hopes to get enough signatures to put an initiative on the Nevada ballot to stop the public funding of the A’s Las Vegas ballpark. If successful the A’s would be forced to find private money instead of Nevada State money or SB1 funding for the $350 million the A’s said they would use out of the $380 million.

#1 The Sacramento A’s and owner John Fisher on Thursday have detailed how their going to finance the new Las Vegas ballpark as the deadline to come up with the A’s share of the construction costs come due on Dec 5th. Fisher with the help of his family plan to pay the $1.5 billion.

#2 A’s executive Sandy Dean said that construction details, a financing plan are going to be in place. There will be a Dec 5th meeting with the Las Vegas Stadium Authority and final approvals for the $1.5 billion, 30,000 seat that will have a 33,000 capacity should be approved.

#3 Construction for the project is scheduled to begin Spring 2025 and the targeted opening date is 2028. The State of Nevada will be funding some $380 million towards the new park that will be located at the old Tropicana site located at Las Vegas Blvd and is targeted to open in 2028.

#4 Alexander Marks Schools over Stadiums spokesman and Schools over Stadiums who are education group fighting to stop public state funding that is going to pay for the A’s Las Vegas ballpark has not given up the fight and are hoping to get an initiative on the 2026 ballot that would stop the state funding for the A’s Vegas ballpark. Schools over Stadiums said last week that “we will continue our fight, including taking it to the streets with a referendum petition to protect Nevada’s tax dollars.”

#5 With the Fisher family getting very close to the stadium construction costs they are also getting loans to cover the costs from Goldman Sachs and US Bank, if there were any doubts before about financing the stadium Dean said this is the evidence you need, this “concludes the Fisher family has more than sufficient resources to fund the equity investment that’s required to build the stadium.”

Oakland A’s Relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum: Memories shared as A’s play last two months at Coliseum; A’s say they can finance Vegas park but where is the money?

On the Oakland A’s Relocation podcast:

#1 Daniel, final two months for the A’s playing in the Oakland Coliseum since 1968. As the final date of Sep 26th comes closer it’s hard to believe after over 50 years the A’s will no longer occupy the Coliseum.

#2 In the course of the wind down of the Coliseum the A’s will be sharing lots of memories from their years of winning three straight World Series from 1972-74, going to the World Series three years in a row from 1988-1990 and winning the 1989 World Series.

#3 One of the big memories is when the A’s won 20 straight ball games which was part of a movie Money Ball starring Brad Pitt as A’s general manager Billy Beane.

#4 The latest was that A’s owner John Fisher’s business partner Sandy Dean said that the A’s are working on securing funding which would amount to $500 million for Fisher’s share. Fisher had been trying to secure the funding since the MLB owners last December voted to move the A’s to Vegas. Fisher has until December 2024 to finance his end of the construction costs or the SB1 bill that publicly finances the park will be dead. Gaming & Leisure Properties Inc. and Bally’s have taken a leading role in making sure the stadium will be built. It’s yet to be seen as Fisher needs to come up with the construction financing.

#5 In talking with employees who work at the Oakland Coliseum most have not heard from A’s management about what their futures will be like be it contractors or A’s employees regarding work in Sacramento next season. Most likely the Sacramento Rivercats will be deciding a great portion of how the front office will be handled since it will save Fisher money on paying employees.
