Sacramento A’s relocation podcast:

#1 Sacramento A’s team president Mark Badain announced that the A’s have the funding to cover at least $2 billion for the construction costs for the A’s Vegas ballpark.

#2 A’s owner John Fisher had said before the costs for his share of the construction would run as high as $2 billion. There is no guaranteed maximum price that has been set as of yet.

#3 Badain said at the Las Vegas Stadium Authority that the A’s will have a budget and they will build on it. That Fisher’s word is he will have the financing in place for that dollar amount.

#4 It was also reported that there are at least 200 contractors on site and they are moving ahead with the construction of the stadium. Construction crews are working in the southeast side of Las Vegas Blvd and Tropicana Ave. The crews have been at it since April. Almost 600 pilings are in the ground and there are multiple cranes that are on the site with concrete being poured.

#5 Badain said that 50 percent of the foundational work is done and that later he expects the concrete work to go vertical and that passerby can see the work over the ten foot wall on the 35 acre site that was the former home of the Tropicana Casino and Hotel.

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast Daniel Dullum: Severino’s remarks on A’s minor league park speaks volumes for players

Sacramento A’s pitcher Luis Severino is fired up after striking out the Texas Rangers hitter Jake Burger with the bases loaded in the bottom third inning on Wed Apr 30, 2025 at Globe Life Field in Arlington. Severino said on Fri May 9, 2025 that the A’s interim home at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento is not a big league park. (AP file photo)

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast Daniel Dullum:

#1 The New York Yankees network the YES Network in an interview on Friday with the former Yankee abd current Sacramento A’s pitcher Luis Severino asked his thoughts about playing in a minor league park and Severino said, “This is not a big league park.”

#2 Severino did not add anymore to the minor league ballpark statement but it did reverberate when the Yankees press who are covering the Yankees trip in Sacramento this weekend as to what a player’s thoughts are playing at the San Francisco Giants triple A affiliate Sacramento Rivercats minor league park.

#3 The Yankee broadcasters on the YES Network also added that “This is gonna be a summer this grass is never gonna forget.” inferring that the ballparks natural playing surface will be used over some 150 games just this season and the turf might show it’s age after so much use.

#4 Severino said the wind can take a baseball and do some damage to a pitcher if a hitter hits it in the direction of the wind and in a minor league park things could go bad fast.

#5 Severino said a few words regarding playing at a minor park is there any doubt that he’s sharing the feelings of the other players as well?

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast Daniel Dullum: Las Vegas Stadium Authority confident A’s will break ground mid June

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast Daniel Dullum:

#1 Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority CEO and president chairman and Las Vegas Stadium Authority chairman Steve Hill said he was confident that the A’s will break ground at the Tropicana site by mid June.

#2 The A’s are counting on following the same steps that the Las Vegas Raiders took to get their ground breaking underway with zoning and land use permits all lined up and on a scheduled timeline to see shovels in the ground by mid June.

#3 The timeline the Raiders had was 68 days between Clark County approvals and when the Raiders started work on their current stadium Allegiant Stadium worth $2 billion. The A’s whose park would sit on nine acres at the Tropicana location will rest on 35 acres could follow through on the permits and be ready for construction by June.

#4 Hill said as of now there is a good amount of work being done at the Tropicana site. Contractors are clearing the rubble from the implosion of both Tropicana towers from last year.

#5 Hill said that the rubble is being cleared out and that material would be recycled and used for material would be used to build the A’s ballpark.

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast Daniel Dullum Sun Mar 23, 2025: Vegas Stadium Authority is still waiting on A’s to come up with construction money

The site of the Las Vegas A’s ballpark at the Tropicana on the Las Vegas strip which is being cleared for construction. The Las Vegas Stadium Authority is waiting for the A’s to come up with $100 million their share of the construction costs. (Las Vegas Review Journal file photo)

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast Daniel Dullum:

#1 Daniel, after all this time and the deadline to pay for the A’s Las Vegas ballpark construction costs was due last December the Sacramento A’s owner John Fisher’s payment is still on hold at the tune of $1.75 billion.

#2 As of last week the A’s need to get private money and at a price that is of higher value then the team itself to get the Vegas park and shovels into the ground. No word from the A’s on the loan for the ballpark that was supposed to come from U.S. Bank and Goldman Sachs.

#3 The A’s right now need to come up with $100 million to just get started with limited public financing from the SB1 public funding bill that was approved in 2023 by the Nevada State Assembly for $380 million.

#4 Word is the Fisher Family has not come up with the funding and Las Vegas authorities can not confirm publicly or otherwise that the family has that kind of money or has that money to put down as of last week.

#5 A’s team president Sandy Dean said in an early March meeting with the Nevada Stadium Authority headed by Nevada Stadium Authority Chairman Steven Hill that the A’s will have the money coming from the Fisher Family and loans from U.S. Bank and Goldman Sachs. It’s yet to be seen. There are two questions regarding the financing of the Vegas ballpark #1 What will the Nevada State Assembly do if the Fishers can not come up with their share of the construction costs so that money from the SB1 bill can start funding the ballpark. #2 Will this land on the lap of MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred who helped spearhead the A’s relocation and will MLB be forced to go back to the drawing board and have to find a new location for the A’s who are playing their interim years in Sacramento?

#6 Can Oakland get back at the table if Vegas falls apart? Oakland has an interim Mayor Kevin Jenkins and Oakland will vote for a new mayor in November either Barbara Lee or Loren Taylor. If John Fisher has no where else to go would he and Rob Manfred reconsider working with a new Oakland Mayor and renew interest in building a downtown Oakland ballpark?

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast: Taking an inside look at renderings and new Las Vegas A’s ballpark

Las Vegas ballpark rendering as presented by the Athletics and Bjarke Ingles Group the design firm (Bjarke Ingles Group the design firm rendering)

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast:

#1 Frank Sharpe who is director of sports architecture for Bjarke Ingles Group the design firm for the Las Vegas A’s ballpark said that part of the design was to take the Vegas summer heat was to climate control the indoor park but to still give it that outdoor feel.

#2 Sharpe also said that portions of the armadillo shaped ballpark will have a 36,000 square foot glass curtain wall that will be in the outfield and give the fans a view of the strip and will have sunlight coming into the stadium.

#3 Athletics vice chairman Sandy Dean said that construction from a team of about 100 contractors have been working on the designs and had refined the renderings since the display was first presented in June 2023 when the A’s first announced they would be relocating to Vegas.

#4 The A’s ballpark will have six levels and will be all indoors and it will feel like a large arena with additional designs in the process according to Emily Louchart director of interiors with HNTB design firm.

#5 Louchart said that the park will have 20 suites, and 17 to 20 seat choices and nine lounge club spaces. That’s going to be quite luxury box.

Sacramento Athletics relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum: Sutter Health still a work in progress expected to be ready by Mar 31 opener

Sutter Health Park Sacramento the 2025 home of the Athletics. The park is still under renovation but is expected to be ready by Mar 31, 2025 opening day (photo by ABC 10 Sacramento)

On Sacramento A’s relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum:

#1 There a lot of questions being asked as spring training started on Wednesday for the Sacramento A’s in Mesa Arizona. One them is how are the A’s going to play in a packed 14,014 seat minor league park sharing it with the Giants triple A team for 132 dates (Triple A is over at the end of August) trying to fit fans, media, front office people, scouts, employees in a tight space.

#2 Taking a look at the developments of Sutter Health Park in Sacramento the A’s 2025-27 ballpark the field is still dug up the entire field is dirt and they are designing the infield and will plant grass there shortly.

#3 Construction is ongoing for the clubhouses which will be located outside of the outfield wall, It is expected to be ready by opening day March 31st.

#4 How much of a beating will that field get with 132 games being played there everyday with the A’s and River Cats taking turns.

#5 The A’s will play their post season games if they make post season in a number of places but it will outside of Sacramento. Options include neutral sites Oracle Park in San Francisco, Oakland Coliseum which is not too far off the mark because Oakland has a interim mayor Kevin Jenkins who might give them a much better deal for post season than former Mayor Sheng Thao who offered the A’s a $91 million three year deal which the A’s walked away from.

Athletics podcast with Daniel Dullum: A’s claim they have their share of construction costs for Vegas ballpark

Sandy Dean Athletics president has said all along the A’s would come up with the funding for their share of the Las Vegas ballpark on the Las Vegas strip which is expected to open baseball season 2028 (LV Sports Biz file photo)

On the Athletics podcast with Daniel Dullum:

#1 The Athletics are saying they have the $350 million coming from SB1 and the State of Nevada and $300 million from Goldman Sachs and US Bank.

#2 One of the requirements are that the A’s have to spend $100 million of their own money before they can touch any of the public funds from Nevada.

#3 The A’s have spent $40 million of the designer process so far the site selection and the A’s stadium will occupy nine acres of the 35 acre Tropicana casino and resort which should be ready by opening day 2028.

#4 The A’s will be sharing the space with Bally’s Mega Corp where the rolling of the dice and slot machines will be a baseballs throw away.

#5 The A’s have submitted their land use permit has been filed. The A’s have officially submitted their land use permit to Clark County. Which is important in getting construction underway.

Athletics Relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum: Does a season ticket sell out mean the relocation pressure is off the A’s brass?

Athletics owner John Fisher (left) smiles while former Athletics pitcher Rollie Fingers (right) signs autographs for the fans at Las Vegas Ballpark on Mar 8, 2024 during last year’s spring training (Las Vegas Review-Journal photo)

On the Athletics Relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum:

#1 Now that the A’s have sold out their season tickets for their 2025 season in Sacramento is the pressure off the A’s brass regarding their move out of Oakland?

#2 Are fans from the Bay Area going to still be fans of the A’s and maybe even spend their money on going to see the A’s in Sacramento?

#3 Reporters have said that Sutter Health Park and the A’s have built out their seats, fixed the clubhouses with weight rooms, and have added 10-15 more seats in pressbox. That said it’s still falls short of MLB standards and it’s going to be quite a squeeze to get into park for employees, fans, media, and the teams to fit into.

#4 A’s designated hitter Brent Rooker said that the A’s are the team he wants to stay with that the A’s are a desirable place to be at and that he’s happy with the group of people that Rooker has to work with on a day to day basis. Needless to say he’s happy about the five year $60 million extension he got with the club.

#5 The A’s actual environment covering this team everyday in 2024 they are a great group of players who like each other. In the press conference they had in Sacramento when some of the players were introduced they were excited about coming to Sacramento. But will this be at a honeymoon stage when they and visiting teams realize that playing in a minor league park is not all that it’s cracked up to be for a big league setting?

Sacramento Athletics relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum: Kotsay talks about adjustment and getting to know Sacramento

Sacramento A’s manager Mark Kotsay addresses the media during Winter Meetings on Tue Dec 10, 2024 in Dallas. Kotsay spoke with the media on Mon Jan 6, 2025 regarding the A’s getting ready to play at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento for the 2025 season (Tom Gutierrez AP file photo)

On the A’s relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum:

#1 Mark Kotsay manager of the A’s met with the media on Mon Jan 6, 2025 at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel in downtown Sacramento and said regarding leaving Oakland and starting in Sacramento that change is never easy and that’s its never easy leaving from what your leaving behind that meaning the Oakland fanbase.

#2 Kotsay who spent the day in Sacramento and got a chance to go to the Sacramento Kings game on Monday and getting a chance to see the energy at Golden 1 Center and the support that the Kings get Kotsay said that’s a vision of the A’s future.

#3 Kotsay said that there is a sense of a lot of excitement regarding the A’s moving to Sacramento and brining Major League Baseball to a city that hasn’t had it before.

#4 Kotsay said that it’s important that the baseball is and the A’s are about the Sacramento Community and that any kind of community that the A’s can build and get support in makes it more comforting and life becomes a little bit easier.

#5 Kotsay was real and said that also there is a level of uncomfortability that can challenge you that makes you stronger and that the A’s are fully aware of that and that the Sacramento community is important and being part of the Sacramento community.

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum: Shovels scheduled to be in the ground by Spring 2025 for Vegas ballpark

Athletics owner John Fisher visits with guests at a private party following the controlled implosion of Tropicana Las Vegas on Oct. 9, 2024. The site will be the home of a $1.75 billion baseball stadium. (Jeff Scheid/The Nevada Independent)

On the Sacramento A’s podcast with Daniel:

#1 Daniel A’s executive Sandy Dean produced four documents that the Las Vegas Stadium Authority needed to see to approve moving forward with sewing up the deal that would finance the A’s ballpark on the Las Vegas strip. The A’s have pledged up to $1.5 billion for their share of the construction costs. The cost had increased to $1.75 billion.

# 2 A’s owner John Fisher and his family will be responsible for $1.4 billion of the cost. Dean said that the Fisher family will be able to pay and be committed to meeting those costs.

#3 The Las Vegas Stadium Authority have approved lease, non-relocation, development and community benefits agreements.

#4 Since June 2023 when the A’s announced that they had a binding deal with the Rio in Las Vegas and later relocating to the Tropicana this had been tumultuous relocation for all involved. It’s not the outcome that Oakland fans would have wanted but none the less the A’s have got that much closer to getting shovels in the ground.

#5 Ironically the agreements with the Las Vegas Stadium Authority came on the same day the A’s signed one of their biggest deals with former New York Mets pitcher Luis Severino to a three year $67 million deal.

#6 Daniel looking back on this deal what made it interesting for the A’s was it MLB waving the relocation fee that help persuade the A’s to leave Oakland and the fifth largest market in exchange for moving to baseball’s smallest TV market Las Vegas?
