#1 Michael, how frustrating has it got to be that the Cardinal lost in a close one point game to the Arizona Wildcats last Saturday at Stanford Stadium.

#2 Stanford quarterback Aston Daniels threw for 14-26 for 198 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions. Daniels tried to get some offense going but the Wildcats were able to cover that much better.

#3 Daniel needed more time to throw against the Wildcats defense but it was a struggle talk about how much pressure he got in the pocket.

#4 Stanford running back Sedrick Irvin had ten carries for 66 yard and a touchdown. Did Irvin get pushed back on some of his rushes last Saturday.

#5 The Oregon Ducks are no slouch their headed for Stanford for this Saturday the Cardinal have home field but the Ducks have been cleaning up winning four straight games and have a very pro active quarterback in Bo Nix who can throw all day.

#1 Jerry since last week’s Colorado Buffaloes announcement regarding leaving the Pac 12, Pac 12 Commissioner George Kliavkoff has not made any statements regarding the Buffaloes and also with additional departures from Washington and Oregon.

#2 Washington State Cougars team president Kirk Schulz and athletic director Pat Chun said that while it’s disappointing that up to five teams are leaving there is always a possible positive outcome that could unfold. They both are hopeful over the Pac 12’s deal proposal with Apple.

#3 Teams remaining after four teams that have left, Cal, Stanford, Oregon State and Washington State, Kliavkoff will have to do some quick work after this season in getting other schools to join the conference.

#4 In terms of how this works for the Cal the school you cover their alumnus and donors have to be concerned that they no longer will get to see the rival teams especially USC and UCLA.

#5 One interesting note is that Oregon and Washington will be entering the Big Ten on a reduced payout while USC and UCLA will get more than $60 million each for media rights. That’s the rewards of being in the second media market.

#6 Jerry you had a chance to cover two Stanford Cardinal appearances in the Rose Bowl how does this break up of the Pac 12 effect the Rose Bowl tradition.

On the Pac 12 with Troy Ewers:

#1 The break up of the Pac 12 continues after Oregon Ducks trustees voted on Friday to accept the move to the Big Ten. The Washington Huskies also will be leaving the Pac 12 to join the Big Ten.

#2 The Big Ten presidents voted happily to vote in Oregon and Washington for the 2024 season and they see a great benefit for their TV coverage having the Ducks and Huskies in the confrence.

#3 Last year the Big Ten got UCLA and USC in the fold and that was the beginning of the crumbling of the Pac 12.

#4 With the Colorado Buffaloes, USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington leaving the Pac 12 the conference. At this rate the Pac 12 could be down to just four schools, Cal, Stanford, Oregon State, and Washington State which pretty much would have to move them into other conferences.

#5 It was Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren who strongly urged Oregon and Washington to join the Big Ten. With UCLA and USC it gives the Big Ten a strong position for their TV contracts and recruiting for the schools.

Ducks hand Cardinal 73-68 loss in regular season finale

Stanford ended its regular season for men’s basketball on a losing note Saturday, as the Cardinal fell to Oregon 73-68 in a nationally-televised game played at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene, Ore.

N’Faly Dante led the Ducks (18-13 overall, 12-8 Pac-12) with 15 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots. Keeshawn Barthelemy scored 14 points off the bench and Will Richardson had 10 points, six assists and four rebounds.

Spencer Jones and Brandon Angel each scored 18 points to lead Stanford (13-18 overall, 7-13 Pac-12), with Jones hitting four 3-pointers and Angel going 3-3 behind the arc. Jones also had seven rebounds, three steals and three assists.

Harrison Ingram and Maxime Reynaud added 11 and 10 points, respectively for Stanford, while Michael O’Connell contributed three assists.

The Cardinal jumped to an 8-0 lead to start the game and led 18-9 with 11:24 left in the first half. Oregon put together a run to tie the game and eventually built a 39-34 halftime lead.

Stanford pulled to within three points with seven minutes remaining in the second half, but Oregon made enough free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Oregon’s bench outscored Stanford’s 30-6, and the Ducks forced 13 Cardinal turnovers.

The Cardinal will play in Wednesday’s opening round of the Pac-12 tournament in Las Vegas.

#1 The Stanford Cardinal women (28-4) picked up game one of the Pac 12 Tournament with a 76-65 win over the Oregon Ducks (17-14) on Thursday the Cardinal are coming into March rolling which is really no surprise to anyone.

#2 Cameron Brink once again led Stanford with 22 points she never got intimidated on any of the Ducks double teaming and was a key part of the reason why the Cardinal got the 11 point win.

#3 This past Tuesday Brink was named the Pac 12 defensive player of the year at this rate with her shot blocking could end up getting her the NCAA defensive player of the year.

#4 Taking a look at the prospects of Stanford’s chances of taking this game you could make that prediction as the Cardinal defense allowed the Ducks only nine points in the first quarter and and 15 in the second quarter. The Ducks could never really catch up with the Cardinal after the first half.

#5 The Cardinal are battling with the UCLA Bruins in game 2 of the Pac 12 Tournament the Bruins were defeated by the Cardinal in their last meeting 71-66 at Maples Pavilion on Mon Feb 20th. Will the Bruins be looking for blood in tonight’s game against the Cardinal?

Cameron Brink enjoyed another big night for Stanford Thursday, leading the No. 6 Cardinal past Oregon 76-63 in the Pac-12 women’s basketball tournament quarterfinals in Las Vegas.

Brink, a junior center, scored 22 points, grabbed 11 rebounds for her 14th double-double of the season. Hannah Jump was next for Stanford (28-4) with 13 points, Talana Lepolo scored 10 points, and Haley Jones had eight points along with eight assists and 13 rebounds.

The Cardinal dominated the boards, outrebounding Oregon 56-39. Stanford converted 21 offensive rebounds into 21 second-chance points.

Te-Hina Paopao netted a career-high 28 points for Oregon (17-14), including a tournament record-tying seven 3-pointers. Endyia Rogers added 15 points for the Ducks, who hit 29.4 percent of their field goals (20 of 68).

The Cardinal opened the game with an 11-2 run, including 7-of-7 free throws. Brink had eight of Stanford’s 21 points in the second quarter, as the Cardinal built a 37-24 halftime lead. Oregon rallied to start the second half, but the Cardinal used a 7-0 run to close the period.

Stanford will face UCLA in the semifinals on Friday.

On Stanford women basketball podcast with Daniel:

#1 Stanford Cardinal women (21-2) got their fourth straight win over the Oregon Ducks (14-7) last Sunday. Cameron Brinks picked up her first triple double and with ten blocks.

#2 Brink at the end of the game asked the scorers table if the tenth block counted she got her answer finding out that she had accomplished her first career triple double.

#3 Brink said that the Ducks down the stretch were putting pressure on her  “I think I just started out hot, they started driving in the paint and blocking shots started early.” said Brink.

#4 The triple double for Brink was the first in Stanford’s history and Brink’s defense on blocked shots help contribute to making school history.

#5 The Cardinal face the Washington State Cougars (15-6). The Cardinal have won four straight games and the Cougars have won five of their last seven games and two straight games but yet and still the Cardinal the way they’ve been playing this season could be a handful for the Cougars at Wazoo on Friday night.

Stanford gets 8 point win against Oregon 62-54; Brink’s triple-double lifts No. 3 Cardinal past Oregon

Junior center Cameron Brink registered a notable triple-double while leading No. 3 Stanford Cardinal (21-2) to a 62-54 Pac-12 women’s basketball victory over Oregon Sunday before 5,133 at Maples Pavilion.

The 6-foot-4 Brink accomplished the first triple-double in program history that included blocked shots. She finished with 16 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high ten blocks. It was also the first triple-double in NCAA Division I women’s basketball featuring blocked shots since Tamari Key did it for Tennessee against Texas on Nov. 21, 2021.

The Cardinal (21-2 overall, 9-1 Pac-12) won their 21st straight conference game at home. Hannah Jump was next in scoring for Stanford with 14 points, and Haley Jones added eight points, 16 rebounds and four assists. Brooke Demetre scored nine points, and Talana Lepolo had six assists.

Phillipina Keyi led the Ducks (15-7, 5-5) with 12 points and 17 rebounds. Chance Gray was next for Oregon with 12 points, followed by Grace Vanslooten with 11.

Oregon came into the game averaging 79.9 points, but was plagued by cold shooting. The Ducks missed 13 of their first 15 shots and didn’t make a basket over the final 5:35 of the first quarter. Oregon had a stretch of missing 17 straight shots in the first half and wound up hitting only 25 percent from the field.

The Cardinal had a 46-37 lead after three quarters and used a 7-2 run to pull away in the fourth quarter.

Stanford’s next game is on Friday at Washington State.

#1 No. 24 Colorado attempted 66 shots in Sunday’s women’s basketball game against Stanford. The No. 4 Cardinal blocked a school-record 14 of them on their way to a 62-49 Pac-12 win at Maples Pavilion.

#2 With the win, Stanford (19-2 overall, 7-1 Pac-12) took over sole possession of first place in the conference. Along with a dominating defensive effort, the Cardinal also hit 17 of 22 free throws and scored 19 points off turnovers.

#3 Cameron Brink had six of those blocked shots to go with 14 points and five rebounds. Hannah Jump led the Cardinal with 21 points, including five 3-pointers. Haley Jones had 11 points, three assists and a game-high 18 rebounds.

#4 The Stanford Cardinal men (7-12, 2-7 Pac-12) roasted the Oregon Ducks (11-9, 5-4 Pac-12) last Saturday inside the friendly confines of Maples Pavilion, 71-64.

#5 Stanford men won Wednesday January 25 in a non conference game versus the Chicago State Cougars also the men battle the Cal Bears on Saturday night at Maples. The No.4 women host the Oregon State Beavers Friday all at Maples Pavilion.

Stanford Cooks Oregon on the Farm to Earn Second Conference Win, 71-64

STANFORD, Calif. — The Stanford Cardinal (7-12, 2-7 Pac-12) roasted the Oregon Ducks (11-9, 5-4 Pac-12) inside the friendly confines of Maples Pavilion, 71-64.

The first half was a tussle with both teams leading at one time, but never in double digits. As a matter of fact Stanford had the largest advantage (9) with a 7-0 run and Oregon possessed a 5-0 run, but only led 3-0 to begin the contest.

The Ducks cut the deficit to one several times, but had to settle for being behind by five at recess, 42-37.

No player on either squad scratched double-figures; however, Cardinal’s senior forward Spencer Jones led his team with eight points, while senior guard Jermaine Couisnard topped the Ducks with nine points after 20 minutes of action.

Part two of the Pacific 12 Battle presented Stanford going on an 8-0 jaunt and ballooning their lead to 13 within the first five minutes of the second 20 minutes of regulation.

Although the Ducks continued to peck away at the lead, the Cardinal stood tall and won the game by seven, 71-64.

Stanford’s three leading scorers each tallied double-figure points: The aforementioned Spencer Jones finished with 16 points, six rebounds and two steals. Sophomore forward Harrison Ingram contributed 11 points, eight rebounds, five assists and also two thefts. Senior guard Michael Jones offered ten points and five rebounds to help sweep both schools from the Beaver State.

Oregon was represented with three players with double-digit scoring and one with that category for rebounds. Jermaine Couisnard paced all scorers (18), senior guard Rivaldo Soares (13) and junior guard Keeshawn Barthele-my (11). Their senior center N’Faly Dante chipped in 9 points and grabbed 14 boards.

Stanford is next in action Wednesday, January 25, as they host a non conference game versus the Chicago State Cougars, while Oregon goes back to Eugene to host the Colorado Buffaloes Thursday, January 26.
