#1 Michael, last game for Cardinal tough loss 76-61 against the Oregon Ducks the Cardinal just couldn’t get any offense going in the first half scoring just 19 points.

#2 Maxime Raynaud has been the key to this offense all season and he led with 20 points against Oregon. He’s had successes before this loss in leading the offense.

#3 Was there any disadvantage that you could see in this being a neutral site game for Stanford it’s practically in their own backyard what difference did you see in playing at SAP Center on Saturday night?

#4 Raynaud did get his tenth double double of the season in this one. There is no doubt after college he might get some attention from G League and NBA scouts?

#5 The Cardinal get after at Clemson on Wed Jan 1 New Years Day. The Tigers are no slouch at 10-3 and are third in the Atlantic Coast. The Tigers did lose two of their last three games but the Cardinal can’t let their guard down and also on the road in Clemson?

#1 The Stanford Cardinal (9-3) are having a good years so far despite running into a brick wall called the Oregon Ducks (11-1) last Sat Dec 21 at SAP Center in San Jose losing to the Ducks 76-61.

#2 The Ducks got scoring help from Kwame Evans Jr led with 13 points and guard Jackson Shelstad with ten points.

#3 The Cardinal really relied on Maxime Raynaud topped out in scoring for Stanford with 20 points but Maxime couldn’t do it all as the Cardinal fell short against a very talented Ducks team.

#4 One of the halves that made a difference was the first half as Stanford scored only 19 points to Ore’s 36 points.

#5 Stanford gets ready for the Clemson Tigers in their next game on New Years Day Jan 1st LittleJohn Coliseum at Clemson. The Tigers are 10-3 and are 7-1 at home. The Cardinal are 9-3 and are 2-0 on the road. This could very well be a tight, physical well fought game?

SAN JOSE, Calif. — The Stanford Cardinal (9-3, 1-0 ACC) were bombarded by the Flying Oregon Ducks (11-1, 1-1 Big 10) 76-61, in the Capital City of the Silicon Valley.

Stanford went scoreless for nearly four minutes to start the game. During that time frame, Oregon had a 4-0 run for their points production.

When the drought finally ended (16:10), it was on a Maxime Raynaud Trey, he added a dunk later, to go on his own personal 5-0 run and give his team their first lead, 5-4. There were six lead changes in the first 20-minute stanza.

The Ducks performed an 8-0 run, as well as a 9-0 one. They led by as many as 17 points before intermission, At the midway point of the game, Oregon led by that same margin, 36-19. Stanford shot a putrid 24% from the field, and worse (18%) from beyond the arc.

Neither team had a player with double-digit scoring; however, Raynaud led the Card with nine points and seven rebounds, while senior center Nate Bittle topped the Ducks with seven points and five rebounds.

Stanford shot considerably better from both perspectives in the second half. However, their deficit was as large as 26 points, despite outscoring the Ducks 42-40. That was assisted by a 10-0 run late in the game, but not close enough to tie, and there were no lead changes during minutes 20:01 – 40:00.

At the final whistle of game one of the San Jose Tip-Off, Oregon defeated the Santa Clara County based Stanford Cardinal by 15 points in the county’s capital city. Final score inside SAP Center, Oregon 76, Stanford 61.

The Cardinal presented two players who reached the 10+ points plateau. Raynaud led all players with 20 points and he also grabbed 13 rebounds, garnering another double-double for the senior forward. Junior guard Benny Gealer added 10 points to the Cardinal total.

The Ducks also produced two players with the aforementioned tally. Sophomore forward Kwame Evans Jr, (13) and sophomore guard Jackson Shelstad (10), while their leader at the half, Bittle, was close, with 9 points and 9 rebounds. Ex-Cardinal Brandon Angel offered a modest 7 points against his former university.

Stanford will next be in action on New Year’s Day in South Carolina, to take on new ACC foe Clemson Tigers at 4:00 PM EST on the ACC Network. The Ducks fly North back to Eugene Sunday, December 29 to host Weber State at 2:00 PM PT on B!G+.

#1 The Stanford Cardinal (9-2)  Oziyah Sellers went on an offensive rampage scoring 19 points and was 8 for 11 shooting from the floor at Maple Pavilion on Tuesday night leading the Cardinal to a 74-68 win over the Merrimack Warriors (5-7).

#2 The Warriors almost came back on the Cardinal whittling their 19 point lead down to just six points before time ran out and Merrimack dropped their record to 5-7.

#3 Stanford’s always reliable Maxime Raynaud came through leading with 16 points and 16 rebounds.

#4 Jaylen Blakes contributed with 16 points to help improve the Cardinal record to 9-2. Blakes was 5-7 from the floor and was perfect in 3 point shooting going 4-4. Blakes had a pretty good night adding seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.

#5 The Cardinal take on the Oregon Ducks (10-1) on Sat Dec 21st at SAP San Jose for a 5:00pm PST tip. The Ducks are fourth in the Big 10 Conference. The can be a tough customer and the Cardinal have been some great ball of late as well. How do you see this one on Saturday night.

Cal Bears podcast with Stephen Ruderman: Cal stays ahead of Ducks to pick up 13th win of season 69-64

On the Cal Bears podcast with Stephen Ruderman:

#1 Stephen over the course of this season this has no doubt been an improved Cal Bears team they stayed ahead of the Oregon Ducks today in Cal’s last home game of the regular season with that 69-64 win at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley.

#2 Cal’s guard Jaylon Tyson led Cal in scoring with 27 points and was one of the key reasons why the Golden Bears were able to stay ahead of the Oregon Ducks in this razor edge close game.

#3 Jalen Cone was second in scoring with 15 points for the Bears and it was his efforts as well that kept the Ducks just behind the Bears all game long.

#4 Oregon’s guard Jermaine Cousinard with 19 points was the leading scorer for the Ducks. Coming in second for Oregon N’Faly Dante 15 points. It was an effort but the the Ducks just couldn’t over come the Bears.

#5 Today’s contest was the last home regular season game for Cal. The rest of the season will be played on the road. Cal faces the Colorado Buffaloes next for a Wed Feb 26th 5pm PT tip off. Cal looking to finish with that respectable record and a good three game road trip.

Final Pac-12 game in Berkeley ends with another epic Bears win 69-64

BERKELEY–The Bears ended their home season with a bang, and came back to beat the Oregon Ducks, 69-64.

Following another comeback win by Cal against the Oregon State Beavers on Thursday, The Bears welcomed in the Oregon Ducks for the final home game of the season, and most likely the final Pac-12 game at Haas Pavilion.

The Ducks won the opening tip, and burst out of the gate early, jumping out to a 6-0 lead. Jaylon Tyson hit a layup to put Cal on the board. Tyson hit a jumper, and Keonte Kenendy hit a three to put the Bears within one at 8-7.

This started a recurring theme throughout the first half. The Ducks would start to pad their lead, but the Bears came right back to tighten up.

The Ducks led 12-7, and the Bears closed it to 14-12. Jackson Shelstad hit all three from the line after being fouled trying to hit a three-ball to make it 17-12, and Tyson hit a three to make it 17-15.

The Ducks then got out to a 24-17 lead after a layup by Brennan Rigsby. Jalen Cone was then fouled, and hit both from the line to start an 8-1 drive for the Bears that saw them tie the game for the first time. Tyson was also fouled, and hit both from the line, and Fardaws Aimaq laid one in and jammed one down to tie it.

Oregon responded with six unanswered points. N’Faly Dante hit a layup, and Shelstad made a layup and a jumper to put the Ducks back ahead by six, 31-25. Jalen Celestine then of course hit a three and a layup to make it 31-30.

Jardian Tracey hit a three for the Ducks with 2:45 remaining to make it 34-30, but there would be no scoring the rest of the first half.

However, the first half ended pon a sour note for the Bears. Jaylon Tyson had to leave the game due to an injury that kept him rolling on the ground for several seconds. It took until the end of the next play on the other side of the court for the referees to call timeout, which angered the crowd, who repeatedly chanted “Refs, you suck!!!”

The theme of the Ducks pulling away but the Bears closing it up continued into the early minutes of the second half. A layup by Dante made it 39-34 Oregon, but Aimaq was fouled and hit two from the line, and Tyson, who had returned into the game, laid one in to make it 39-38.

Jermaine Couisnard and Rigsby hit threes to make it 44-38, but that was no problem for the Bears, especially Tyson and Jalen Cone. Tyson made a layup, and Cone hit a pair of threes to give Cal their first lead of the day. Tyson hit a jumper, and the Bears led it 48-44.

After two more layups by Tyson, the Bears led 56-48. However, the Ducks weren’t going to make it easy for the Bears. Cal maintained a steady lead, but a three from Tracey made it 60-57, and Couisnard made two from the line after getting fouled to make it a one-point game at 60-59 with 2:38 to go.

Cone hit a three; Couisnard hit one of two from the line after drawing a foul; and Aimaq laid it in, as the Bears led 65-60 with 52 seconds remaining. Tracey was fouled and hit two from the line, as was Tyson, who also hiit two from the line.

After a missed jumper by Couisnard and a missed three by Rigsby, Rigsby was fouled and made two from the line, but it would be far too late, and the Bears won it by a final of 69-64.

For the Bears, this is their third win in a row, and they are now over .500 in conference play, as they improve to 9-8. They also improve to 13-15 overall.

Jaylon Tyson had an incredible game. He suffered a scary-looking injury towards the end of the first half, but he returned early in the second half, and scored 27 points.

Most importantly, this was another big win for the Bears who have had quite a bounceback season following their 3-29 campaign. The Bears have also noticeably matured throughout the course of the season. This is a much more mature team than the team that barely eked out a win over the St. Thomas Tommies to open the season on Nov. 6.

The Bears suffered numerous painful losses early in the season, but they never gave up or gave in. They kept going, and matured into an exciting comeback team that gave the fans in Berkeley many epic comeback wins, as well as what we can actually say has been a special season.

Now, the Bears have three games remaining, all on the road. They will now head to Boulder, Colorado, where they will take on the Colorado Buffaloes Wednesday night. Tipoff will be at 5 p.m.

Cardinal Allow Ducks to Fly Freely around Farm, 78-65, in Last Regular Season Conference Matchup

STANFORD, Calif. — The Stanford Cardinal (12-14, 7-9 Pac-12) were unable to contain the Oregon Ducks (18-8, 10-5 Pac-12), 78-65, in a late Thursday Night game inside Maples Pavilion.

Stanford senior forward Brandon Angel got the game started off with his team scoring the first points of the game from the charity stripe. He converted the two free throws, and managed to lead his team in scoring at the half (15), although they trailed by eight, 40-32.

Oregon made several runs in the first half, including a 5-0 one after Angel’s FTs, and a 10-0 one that put space between them and the Cardinal. Redshirt Junior guard Jadrian Tracey led all players (16) in scoring at recess.

Despite three lead changes and three ties, the Ducks were able to fly away to nearly a double digit advantage at the midway point of the contest.

Oregon opened the second half on a 5-0 run, putting the feathered visitors up by double-digits (13). That lead was further extended to a high of 17 points (60-43), with nearly 12 1/2 minutes left in the game, and again (74-57) nine minutes later.

Stanford’s noble attempts were combatted several times with daggers by the birds from the Beaver State. The Final margin after 40 minutes of play, was 13 points. 78-65, Oregon Ducks, despite being the underdog by the astute oddsmakers.

Stanford had two hoopers reach 10+ points. Angel dropped 21 points with 6 rebounds, and Spencer Jones had 14 points, in addition to 5 rebounds.

Oregon presented three players with double-figure tallies. Tracey finished with 20 points and 5 rebounds. Jackson Shelstad offered 19 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds. N’Faly added 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Stanford is next in action, Saturday, February 24, hosting the Oregon State Beavers at 2 PM PDT on P12NET. Oregon crosses the Bay to take on California, on the same date, but at 4 PM PDT also on the Pac-12 Network.

Cal Bears post game report: Bears blow 18-point lead, lose to Ducks 80-73

In a role reversal of their epic comeback win Wednesday, but what has occurred so many times this season, the Bears blew an 18-point lead, as they ultimately fell to the Oregon Ducks, 80-73.

The Bears were coming off the win of the season after coming back from down 20 points to defeat the Colorado Buffaloes on Wednesday night in Berkeley. However, they were in Eugene, Oregon to play one of the best teams in the Pac-12 in the Ducks. The Ducks were coming in off to a 12-3 start, and winners of their previous five games.

Oregon won the opening tip, and got on the board after Mahamadou Diawara drew a foul and made the second of two from the line. Cal and Oregon both failed to score on their next drives, and then Fardaws Aimaq hit a three-ball to put the Bears up 3-1.

The scoring was back and forth over the first seven and a half minutes, but when Jalen Celestine hit a three with 12:27 remaining to put the Bears up 17-14, Cal went on a tear. Jalen Cone and Devin Curtis hit jump shots, and Cone hit the third of three from the line to put the Bears up 22-14.

The Bears kept their drive going, as Aimaq, Cone and Jaylon Tyson led the way, and a jumper from the paint by Tyson opened Cal’s lead to 41-23 with 3:59 to go in the first period.

However, the Ducks came roaring back. Jadrian Tracey laid one in to get things started. Jermaine Couisnard hit a three, and Keeshawn Barthelemy hit a jumper to make it 41-30.

Keonte Kennedy laid one in to make it 43-30, but the Ducks kept going. Tracey and Couisnard hit threes to close it to 43-36, and Couisnard hit another three to make it 43-39 going into the half.

The Ducks closed out the first period with a 16-2 run, and they weren’t finished. There was no scoring for the first minute and 18 seconds of the second period until Tracey slammed one down. Tyson responded by laying one in.

Jackson Shelstad hit a jumper to make it 45-43, and then he hit a three to put the Ducks back ahead. The Bears retook a 49-46 lead after Tyson hit two from the line, and Rodney Brown Jr. laid one in, but the Ducks scored five unanswered points to jump back ahead, 51-49.

Grant Newell hit a jumper for Cal to tie it, and then Kario Oquendo hit a three to put Oregon back ahead, 54-51. Jalen Cone was fouled, and hit two from the line to make it 54-53.

Then, the Ducks started to pull away. Oquendo dunked one in, and Tracey made a pair of layups plus a free throw to open the Ducks’ lead to 61-53 with 10:10 remaining.

The Bears still had some fight left in them. Tyson hit a three, and Kennedy laid one in to cut the deficit to 63-60. Jackson Shelstad hit two from the lane for the Ducks, and Kennedy hit a hook shot and a free throw to make it 65-63.

The Bears continued to tread water, as they trailed 70-67 with 4:41 to go, but the Ducks started to pull away again, and this time for good. Keeshawn Barthelemy laid one in; N’faly Dante hit a free throw; Brennan Rigsby hit a jumper; and Dante hit another free throw to open the lead up to 76-67 with 2:38 to go.

Time was running out for the Bears, who were never able to get back to within any less than six points, and the Ducks held on to win it, 80-73.

It was another loss for the Bears after blowing a massive lead, as they fell to 6-11 on the season, and 2-4 in Pac-12 play. The good news for the Bears is that with their next three games at Haas Pavilion and a plethora of off-days, they will be home for almost three weeks.

The Bears will look to bounce back, as the Washington Huskies will come into Berkeley for a 6 p.m. start Thursday night.

#1. The Stanford Cardinal (1-4, 0-3 Pac-12) were invaded and overwhelmed 42-6 by the undefeated and angry #9 Oregon Ducks (5-0, 2-0 Pac-12) and dropped another conference game, inside Stanford Stadium.

#2 The Oregon Ducks quarterback Bo Nix kept busy throwing 27-32, 290 yards, threw four touchdowns. Nix was just absolutely in command.

#3 “An Unbelievable team we just played; great in all three phases [Offense, Defense & Special Teams].” Said Stanford HC Troy Taylor.

#4 Ducks’ senior QB Bo Nix was absolutely motivated, as he put on an aerial display, tossing three TDs in the third 15-minute block. First he hit junior TE Terrance Ferguson for a 10 yard score. Less than two minutes later, he connected with junior wide receiver Troy Franklin for a 46 yard TD.

#5 The Cardinal have a bye next Sat Oct 7th and face the Colorado Buffaloes Sat Oct 14 in Colorado. The Buffaloes are 3-2 and lost their last game in a close one to the USC Trojans 48-41 in Buffalo on Saturday. The Cardinal now are on a three game losing streak at 1-3 how do you see these two teams matching up on Oct 14th.

Cardinal Allows Ducks to Soar Freely, Nest and Lay Eggs on the Farm, 42-6

STANFORD, Calif. — The Stanford Cardinal (1-4, 0-3 Pac-12) were invaded and overwhelmed 42-6 by the undefeated and angry #9 Oregon Ducks (5-0, 2-0 Pac-12) and dropped another conference game, inside Stanford Stadium.

“An Unbelievable team we just played; great in all three phases [Offense, Defense & Special Teams].” Said Stanford HC Troy Taylor.

Stanford won the battle of clock management in the initial 30 minutes of play, but unfortunately not the score. The Cardinal had the ball in their possession 2/3 of the half (20:12), while the Ducks used their third ((9:48) more efficiently and effectively on the scoreboard.

Joshua Karty opened up the scoring a little over five minutes into the game, with a 37-yard kick through the uprights, and his Cardinal were up 3-0. Oregon wasn’t able to muster up any type of offense in the first quarter, unlike their blowout victory the previous game versus Colorado. The three point margin stood at the first whistle.

Karty opened the second quarter right away with a 53-yard boot for three. He is in the early stages of another consecutive FGs made streak. The Cardinal doubled their lead to 6-0.

Midway through the second period, Oregon finally got their offense on track. Sophomore running back Jordan James burst through the Cardinal defense for a 30-yard touchdown. The Ducks also took the lead (7-6) after the PAT by senior Camden Lewis.

Not wasting any of their limited time with the ball, Oregon struck again nearly six minutes later. Junior running back Bucky Irvin made it into the end zone on an elusive 17-yard scamper. Now the visiting birds were up by eight, 14-6.

Oregon put themselves in position to get three more points before recess, aided by a defensive penalty (5 yards) by Stanford. With that infraction, Lewis lined up for a 38-yard attempt, instead of 43. Turns out the penalty didn’t hurt the home team, as he missed the FG with one second left in the half. Midway through the game, The Ducks held their 8-point advantage at 14-6.

Apparently Oregon HC Dan Lanning gave another inspirational speech at halftime, because the Ducks came out in the second half with their heads and bills held high, ready to attack. After scoring 14 straight points to end the half, Oregon poured it on in the third quarter.

Ducks’ senior QB Bo Nix was absolutely motivated, as he put on an aerial display, tossing three TDs in the third 15-minute block. First he hit junior TE Terrance Ferguson for a 10 yard score. Less than two minutes later, he connected with junior wide receiver Troy Franklin for a 46 yard TD. He liked that combination so much, he found Franklin again in the endzone, this time for five yards. Stanford had no response, so after 45 minutes of play, Oregon opened up a 29-point lead, 35-6.

The final segment was no better, as Oregon reached paydirt again, early in the fourth. Nix threw his fourth and final TD (season high) to junior receiver Traeshon Holden, finalizing a 42 consecutive points run.

Nix eventually exited the game with his lofty stats, and the Ducks were able to end the contest taking a knee, or webbed feet. At the final horn, Oregon flew into Palo Alto/Stanford and increased their undefeated record by hammering the Cardinal 42-6 in front of 32,160 inhabitants, although a significant number were supporting the Ducks in their green Oregon paraphernalia.

Stanford has an upcoming Bye week, but will be back in action Friday, October 13th, as they travel to Boulder, CO to take on Coach Prime and the Uber popular Colorado Buffaloes (7 pm MST). Oregon heads back to the Great Northwest, but farther north to Seattle to battle fellow undefeated (At Press Time) conference foe, Washington Huskies, Saturday, October 14 (TBD).

NOTE: Cardinal’s senior kicker Joshua Karty made both of his FG attempts (37) & (53); with his last kick versus Arizona, he has made three in a row since his previous streak ended at 26.

Ducks’ senior QB Bo Nix’ 4 TD passes in one game is a season high thus far in 2023.
