Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast Daniel Dullum: Fisher on video being booed by A’s fans at Sutter Health Park

Fans watch the A’s play the Minnesota Twins at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, in West Sacramento. Charles Russo/SFGATE

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast Daniel Dullum:

#1 On Wednesday night at Sutter Health Park John Fisher who was walking from his seats on the luxury box level was booed at the end of the sixth inning from fans who he walked past.

#2 Fisher also walked on the field before the game and fans in Sacramento who are known for being laid back let the foul language fly at Fisher and one fan stood above the tunnel where Fisher was walking and said some extra obscenities pertaining his thoughts about the A’s relocation from Oakland and the A’s not committing to Sacramento.

#3 Daniel simply what would you say the fans are the most angriest with Fisher for his moving the A’s out of Oakland, not committing to the Sacramento fans, or fans believe he’s yanking their chain over the construction of the Las Vegas ballpark and how that was handled.

#4 Fisher who hardly appeared at any of the Oakland A’s games before they moved and had avoided being seen when in Oakland, has been at a number of A’s games at Sutter Health Park and even gave a rare interview with a Nevada paper regarding the Las Vegas ballpark and relocation.

#5 The A’s had the worst attendance during their series with the Tampa Bay Rays and players and fans have expressed that they are not happy seeing or playing Major League Baseball in a triple A park and they have laid that blame on Fisher.

Oakland A’s relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum: A’s counting the days to leaving Oakland for good

The Oakland A’s will be handing out souvenir replicas to fans at their last game in Oakland ever on Thu Sep 26, 2024 (photo from the Oakland A’s)

On the Oakland A’s relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum:

#1 The City of Sacramento is getting things in order for the A’s move to Sutter Health Ballpark. A restaurant that will serve brunch and a golf simulators business are coming in across the street from the ballpark. Now that the A’s are packing up and leaving Oakland at the end of this month.

#2 Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg is also working with three restaurants that plan to build nearby Sutter Health ballpark. There could be any number of businesses that are willing to move near the park.

#3 The A’s are a few weeks away from their final home game on Thu Sep 26th. Fans, employees, and media have noticed that it’s at count down right now.

#4 The very last game in Oakland history on Sep 26th is sold out and there is a push by fans who want to get in the already sold out Coliseum to have the A’s open up Mount Davis so they can get in and see that last game from the mountain top.

#5 On the last day of the home season there will be a lot of sad faces and nostalgia amongst the A’s fans old and current. In talking with employees, fans and the broadcasters it’s hard to believe it’s nearly the end of the road for the Oakland A’s.

Oakland A’s Relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum: Nevada may not sit still for A’s barnstorming ideas

Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce CEO/President Mary Beth Sewald and Oakland A’s owner John Fisher at a preview regarding the A’s move to Las Vegas on Wed Jan 24, 2024. Sewald might be in for a disappointment after it was learned the A’s plan to play 10% of their home games away from Las Vegas (file photo by the Nevada Independent)

On the Oakland A’s Relocaton podcast with Daniel:

#1 Not only are the Oakland A’s relocating after this season to Sacramento in 2025 and Las Vegas in 2028 once they land in Vegas they plan to play ten percent of their home games in different locations for the purpose of marketing the team.

#2 Daniel, this idea is not go over too well with Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority CEO Steven Hill who pushed for the A’s move to Vegas now only to learn that 10% of the scheduled home games will be played elsewhere and take away that revenue from the City of Las Vegas?

#3 How much of this idea can infuriate not only Hill but also the Nevada State Legislature who is giving the A’s and Bally’s $380 million in public funds to help pay for the Tropicana ballpark?

#4 The A’s could very well be liking the idea of making Sacramento their permanent home. A’s owner John Fisher could be looking at working with Sacramento Rivercats owner and Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive towards the idea of building and MLB park in Sacramento and getting out of the Las Vegas deal by entertaining the 10% home away from home idea?

#5 The idea of the A’s getting out of Vegas and MLB approving it would relieve Fisher from trying to come up with his share of the construction costs at $500 million and it would give Las Vegas an opportunity to still use the $380 million of public funds towards a MLB expansion team.

Oakland A’s Relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum: Nevada Court still hasn’t ruled on Schools over Stadiums petition

An Emerson College poll show that 52 percent of Nevadans would vote against public funding for an Las Vegas A’s ballpark at the Tropicana in Las Vegas as 32% would vote to support it. If approved by the Nevada Court a petition drive in four Nevada districts would kill the SB1 bill to fund $380 million for a Las Vegas ballpark. (image from CBS 8 KLAS Las Vegas)

On the Oakland A’s Relocation podcast with Daniel:

#1 It’s been since April 9th when Schools over Stadiums had went to the Nevada Supreme Court to appeal for language that clears up what the court deemed “legally deficient” and “confusing.” Here it is Fri Apr 26th and the court still has not come up with decision whether or not to deny or accept language for the petition language against SB1 state funding for a Las Vegas A’s ballpark at the Tropicana worth $380 million.

#2 There are now 34 days that’s two months to get over 102,000 signatures split up amongst four districts in Nevada primarily in Cook County and Las Vegas to stop SB1. Some say the court is delaying and burning off precious time before they approve the petition language as the petitions are due and signed by June 1st 2024.

#3 The decision rests with a seven member panel on the Nevada Supreme Court. With the State of Nevada backing this funding how much pressure does the Nevada Supreme Court panel face in not approving the petition language and forcing Schools over Stadiums to fold up?

#4 Pressure is also mounting against the Supreme Court to not approve the petition language in favor of Schools over Stadiums from the unions who are seeing the Tropicana project as jobs for contractors and union employees at the hotels as well as laborers. The panel on the other hand has not made a decision one way or the other because delaying would shorten the time for Schools over Stadiums to gather signatures.

#5 Chris Daly, deputy executive director of government relations for the NSEA who is fighting to get the approval for the petitions to get on the streets and signed said that time is running out. A recent poll shows that Nevadans would vote against public funding of the A’s ballpark at 52% and those in favor are at 32%. If this initiative ever made the ballot it would stop the public funding of the A’s Tropicana ballpark.

#6 Strong Public Schools another Nevada Schools organization has filed a lawsuit against the State of Nevada, the Governor of Nevada and the Secretary of State of Nevada which required a majority two thirds rather than the standard majority vote. The standard majority vote is what passed SB1 and Strong Public Schools said that vote was unconstitutional.

Oakland A’s Relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum: A’s Prez Kaval says renderings should be ready by Mar 8th

Oakland A’s team president David Kaval said that the A’s Las Vegas ballpark renderings will be ready before the A’s two game series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Fri Mar 8, 2024 at Las Vegas Ballpark in Las Vegas ( file photo from Oakland A’s)

On the A’s Relocation podcast with Daniel:

#1 Oakland A’s team president David Kaval said this week that renderings for the A’s Las Vegas ballpark should be ready by Mar 8th and 9th when the A’s play the Milwaukee Brewers at Las Vegas Ballpark.

#2 The two games at the A’s triple A ballpark in Summerlin the opportunity for Kaval to show off the new renderings and answer some daunting questions about when does he think the park will be ready in conjunction with A’s interim plans for 2025-27.

#3 Kaval and the A’s are moving forward with construction plans for the Vegas ballpark but Schools over Stadiums whose in appeal court working on the language for a petition that put an initiative on the Nov 2024 ballot that would stop the public financing for the park.

#4 Daniel out of the 35 acre block at the Tropicana Hotel only nine acres will be devoted to the A’s and the A’s will be limited to the nine acres with a fix roof. Kaval is pushing hard to get the blue prints finalized and says there almost ready.

#5 A’s owner John Fisher is having trouble finding a place for the A’s to play in 2025-27 until the Las Vegas ballpark is ready. Kaval did say that the A’s renderings will be presented at the two Las Vegas pre season games.

Oakland A’s relocation podcast Augie Mesenburg: Sacramento is A’s first choice for 2025 season; City of Oakland wants guarantee of expansion team

Oakland A’s team president David Kaval has met with the Oakland Coliseum Joint Powers regarding a lease extension beyond 2024. The A’s could play the remaining three years at the Coliseum 2025-27 before the Tropicana ballpark is ready in Las Vegas (photo by ABC Sky7 still photo)

On the Oakland A’s relocation podcast with Augie:

#1 The Oakland A’s brass met with the Oakland Coliseum Joynt Powers. Seeing that players’ union most likely will not sign off to play in a minor league ballpark and most importantly the A’s don’t want to miss out on that $67 million annual television money from NBC Bay Area Sports California contract.

#2 There has been no disclosure to how much a year and how long the A’s will be staying at the Coliseum as the new park in Las Vegas is supposed to be ready by 2028. It’s sounding like it might be the three years 2025-27 to finish up in Oakland similar to what the Raiders did before they left Oakland for Las Vegas.

#3 Some are asking could this lead to something being worked out with the Mayor of Oakland and the City of Oakland for a chance that the A’s brass could re-visit Howard Terminal again? It doesn’t seem likely on the surface but there are two law suits coming from Strong Public Schools and Schools over Stadiums that will challenge the Nevada public funding of the Tropicana ballpark and the A’s might be looking at a back up plan.

#4 Augie, the A’s try hard as they may have not nailed down a location to play their games after 2024. A’s owner John Fisher and team president David Kaval have looked at numerous sites Las Vegas Ballpark (home of the A’s minor league triple A team), Sutter Health Park (home of the Sacramento Rivercats), Salt Lake City (home of the minor league Bees), and Oracle Park in San Francisco. All of the parks didn’t work out either it was a minor league park or at Oracle Park they would have to share it with the Giants and the Giants were concerned about the turf being torn up. The latest from Thursday’s news is Sacramento’s Sutter Health Ballpark is a front runner for the A’s in 2025.

#5 This might be more than just a kick the tires meeting to see if it’s worth to come back to the Coliseum after 2024 the A’s who were rumored at one point considering just shutting down operations between 2025-28 have not much choice and no where to go but the Coliseum until the new park in Vegas is ready that is if the Vegas ballpark can withstand the lawsuits by Schools over Stadiums and Strong Public Schools in Las Vegas.

Oakland A’s relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum: A’s could shutdown operations between 2025-27; Portland will pay for A’s to come if Vegas falls apart

The Portland Diamond Project is pushing for a new ball park which include retail, housing, offices, and a new ballpark. Portland is willing to pay for the project which would be located at the Red Tail Golf Course on 163 acres in Redmond Oregon if things don’t work out in Las Vegas (renderings Portland Diamond Project)

On the Oakland A’s relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum:

#1 The Oakland A’s and John Fisher are considering shutting down their operations between 2025-27 and resuming operations in 2028.

#2 Part of the thinking is that shutting down the operations will save the team money and that they can also pay the $1.5 billion to finance the ballpark in Vegas for their share without having to pay for operations of the team and to the players for three years.

#3 The problem with the A’s shutting down for three years there will be 29 teams playing and the Players Union most likely will not go along with the idea of one less team which would hurt the players who are involved.

#4 The A’s have no plans where to play after the 2024 season, so far they’ve toured Salt Lake City, Summerlin, and Sacramento. they have not decided on a place yet.

#5 They went and paid a visit to Portland this week and the City of Portland wants a MLB team badly. Portland wants to purchase the Red Tail Golf Course and it would include a massive amount of land for retail, housing, a retail village, offices and a ballpark. On 150 acres. The A’s are obligated to Las Vegas but if they simply don’t have the money for their share of the construction costs or don’t want to come out of pocket Portland is willing to foot the entire bill for a MLB team like the A’s.

Oakland A’s Relocaton podcast with Daniel Dullum: Nevada State lawmakers received $112,000 in contributions from A’s; A’s see dollars but those are Super Bowl dollars not game day dollars

Nevada Senate Majority Leaders Nicole Cannizzaro who voted for using public funding for the Las Vegas A’s/Tropicana ballpark on the Vegas Strip was one of 41 of 63 legislators who received a campaign contribution from the A’s after $380 million in funding was approved last Jun 2023. Only 10 legislators who voted against the funding received a contribution. (photo from ABC 8 News Now TV)

On the Oakland A’s Relocation podcast with Daniel:

#1 Hotel rooms in Las Vegas on an average night the week before Super Bowl LVIII are going for the mid $900s and going as high as $2833 a night. The A’s know an out of towner won’t spend this much during the regular baseball season but they and Bally’s Tropicana have visions of dollar signs dancing through their heads none the less.

#2 It was learned on Thursday that local and state lawmakers received $112,000 in contributions from the Oakland A’s. The lawmakers that received $10,000 out of the $112k contribution were Democrats from Las Vegas, Assembly Speaker Steve Yeager and Senate Minority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro.

#3 The public was made aware of the contributions when the finance reports for the quarter of Oct 1, 2023 to Dec 31, 2023. The $112,000 contributions were made after the State Legislature approved the $380 million in public funds for the A’s new Las Vegas ballpark.

#4 Talk about the coincidence of legislators who did not receive contribution because either their not running for reelection or they voted against public financing for the Tropicana ballpark.

#5 On the face of this Daniel does this appear to be some sort of back room deal that’s not a back room deal and it’s quite open that if you voted for the new park your on board and you get your contribution and if you didn’t you don’t get any skin in the game?

Oakland A’s Relocation podcast with Jim on Bases: A’s say they have exclusive rights to Coliseum

Oakland Ballers co-founder Paul Freedman introduced at the Ballers first press conference talks about the Ballers first season which will be played at Laney College (Mercury News photo)

On the Oakland A’s Relocation podcast with Jim on Bases :

#1 Jim on Bases, the Pioneer League Oakland Ballers were denied use of the Oakland Coliseum for one game on June 29th. The Ballers co-founder Paul Freedman was rather shocked about not being able to play at the Coliseum. The latest word is from inside sources the A’s are not budging from their decision to deny the Ballers to play at the Coliseum on June 29th.

#2 One of the discussed reasons for the denial by the A’s is they don’t want to have the Ballers come in and draw say 30,000 and making a statement that baseball isn’t dead in Oakland whereas the A’s are expected to draw no more on average 5,000 a game.

#3 The Ballers who are scheduled to play their games at Laney College in Oakland wanted to get their name out there and have a good start. The A’s don’t want to be embarrassed having a Pioneer League team come in and make them look bad in their marketing and attendance.

#4 The idea of the Ballers playing at the Coliseum didn’t come cheap as they would have to pay the Coliseum Authority to cover the grounds crew, security, concessions, engineers, technicians, and employees and also insurance costs and other miscellaneous departments working the Coliseum.

#5 The Ballers were planning to give tickets away to colleges, high schools and elementary schools and wanted to establish a relationship with Bay Area Schools and communities as a good will gesture. With the A’s denying the Ballers access to the Coliseum the Ballers will have to try and do this from Laney College.

Oakland A’s relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum: Fisher may not have the money for stadium; Sources say he’s been talking to other casino owners to chip in for the $1.1 billion cost

Does Oakland A’s owner John Fisher have the $1.1 billion to pay for Vegas/Tropicana ballpark in Las Vegas? (photo by Athletics Nation)

On the A’s podcast with Daniel:

#1 Maybe it’s a good thing that Oakland A’s owner John Fisher doesn’t have to pay a relocation fee because he’s having a hard enough time trying to find $1.1 billion to pay for his share of the building construction for the Tropicana ballpark. So far word is he has not plopped down the $1.1 billion and that he just very well may not have the money.

#2 There was talk that he was going to ask Goldman Sachs for the loan to cover the cost of paying for the construction share but after learning what the interest rates for the loan that bit of news got really quite.

#3 The A’s and the Tropicana were supposed to present the renderings for the new ballpark but that was called off earlier in December after two Nevada Deputies were killed and a renderings announcement would be rescheduled. Then it was expected maybe mid December but here we are in the first week of January and the only thing we’ve heard is the renderings are supposed to take place next week.

#4 Sources say that the A’s and the Tropicana have been showing renderings to other Casino owners and from those sources no casino operator has been willing to put in his share towards the stadium financing. If this is the case Fisher clearly doesn’t have the money and is going with hat in hand up and down the strip.

#5 Schools over Stadiums who might be the last hope to stop public financing for a new ballpark on the strip has come out with their campaign push on their X page stating reasons why funding the Tropicana ballpark with public money over education is a bad idea. Schools over Stadiums is looking for voter support in the event they can get an initiative on the ballot that would stop public funding of an A’s Las Vegas Park. Whatever the outcome for Schools over Stadiums the fight is on.
