#1 Marko, you might remember this guy Joe Pavelski of the Dallas Stars he signed on Friday an extension for the 2022-23 season with the Dallas Stars for $5.5. million. Pavelski leads the Stars in scoring and could have become a unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

#2 Pavelski an ex Shark said that he and his family loved Dallas since day one and are committed to stay and in Dallas and hopefully finish his career there. Will the Stars keep Pavelski as long as they can?

#3 The Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Petr Mrazek will be in net for the Leafs this Sunday at the 2022 Tim Horton Heritage Classic. The Leafs other goalie Jack Campbell is out for at least two weeks with a rib injury and the Leafs used back up goalie Erik Kallgren filled in for Mrazek.

#4 How badly does it hurt the Detroit Red Wings losing forward Robby Fabbri for the rest of the season due to a right knee injury. Wings head coach Jeff Blashill said they are trying to get a second opinion but it’s really looking like Fabbri is out for the season.

#5 The Calgary Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau is in the last and final year of this six year contract and general manager Brad Treliving said the Flames are doing everything they can to sign Gaudreau before the March 21st trade deadline.

#1 The San Jose Sharks (24-25-7) are coming off some tough loses they’ve lost three straight games and their most recent loss to the Anaheim Ducks (27-22-9) 3-2 in overtime on Sunday was certainly an improvement over their 8-0 loss to the Nashville Predators on Saturday if your looking for a silver lining.

#2 The Sharks on Sunday grabbed a 2-0 lead but the Ducks scored twice in the second period to force a tie and got this game in an overtime.

#3 The Sharks got a goal each out of Logan Couture and Marc-Edouard Vlasic the Sharks tried to improve their offensive output but the Ducks put up a good defensive output and shut the Sharks out in the third period.

#4 Mary Lisa, Zachary Sawchenko started for the Sharks stopping 33 Ducks shots and allowed three goals. Sawchenko also had a decent start against the Vegas Golden Knights on Tue Mar 1 though San Jose lost that game 3-1. Sawchenko allow two goals and faced 20 shots.

#5 Mary Lisa, the Sharks will now have back to back games with the Los Angeles Kings (32-19-7) which will be played in Los Angeles on Thursday and in San Jose on Saturday. The Kings have won three straight games going into Thursday’s game.

#1 The Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens face off tonight with no crowd limits, mask mandate still in effect. They expect 18,000 fans at Rogers Centre in Montreal. Fans are happy they get to fill the arena how safe will this decision be?

#2 Matt, the Toronto Maple Leafs say they have no plans to deal goaltender Jack Campbell and Petr Mrazek. Both goaltenders combined have allowed 31 goals in the last seven games there have been calls in Toronto by fans and the media to trade one of the goalies. Kyle Dubas the Leafs general manager said he doesn’t need to deal either goalie but would like to obtain more defense.

#3 Matt how important is it that the Philadelphia Flyers Kevin Hayes has returned to the line up after missing 15 games and is expected to return this Saturday. Hayes said he had a bad groin infection that spread to his left side. Hayes says he feels pretty good now.

#4 The San Jose Sharks goaltender James Reimer is week to week with a lower body injury he sustained in Las Vegas against the Golden Knights on Tuesday who played in his 12th straight game. Matt, was it a matter of the Sharks just over played Reimer or some way some how Reimer was going to run out of gas and something was going to happen. Also talk who the Sharks most likely will go with in goal Adin Hill, Zachary Sawchenko, or Alex Stalock?

#5 Matt, the Carolina Hurricanes will get a shot at hosting the Stadium Series on Feb 18, 2023 when they host Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals at Carter-Finley Stadium at North Carolina State University in Raleigh NC.

#1 Len taking a look at the Vegas Golden Knights and their head coach Peter DeBoer and their win over the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday 3-1. The win was DeBoer’s 500th career win as a head coach and it had to be sweeter to get it against his old team the Sharks.

#2 DeBoer was fired as Sharks head coach Dec 11, 2019 and the Knights hired DeBoer Jan 15, 2020. Looking back on the DeBoer firing did the Sharks fire him prematurely or they made the right decision to let him go at the right time.

#3 DeBoer also got his 499th win over the Sharks on Feb 20th and it was just as good as 500 said DeBoer, “San Jose, that experience is fresh enough with me that that still gets the juices flowing.”

#4 Len, on Sharks goaltender James Reimer after 12 straight games he got a lower body injury against the Knights and is listed as week to week and the Sharks now will have to depend on Adin Hill, Zachary Sawchenko and Alex Stalock how do you see this tandem going into tonight’s game at SAP Center.

#1 The Vegas Golden Knights (30-20-4) Reilly Smith who scored two goals was the difference in the Knights 3-1 win over the San Jose Sharks (24-24-6) at T Mobile Center on Tuesday night in Las Vegas.

#2 For the Knights it was important win, they were coming off two straight loses and wanted to get back in the win column and pulled it off against the Sharks who in their own right were coming off a recent win from Sunday against Seattle.

#3 The Sharks knew the Knights were a force to reckon with and didn’t give up much ground to San Jose as the Knights are third in the NHL Western Conference and are just one point behind the Los Angeles Kings and are six points behind the Calgary Flames.

#4 For the Sharks Noah Gregor scored the Sharks only goal, the Sharks goaltender James Reimer who was making his 12th start suffered a lower body injury and had to be replaced by back up Zachary Sawchenko.

On That’s Amaury:

#1 Amaury, Major League Baseball and the Major League Players Union negotiated until 2:30 AM this morning and agreed to meet again this morning. It was reported that there were gaps in some of the major issues and that some progress was made. This is the ninth day in a row of negotiations between both sides.

#2 Amaury update us on the two options the owners presented to the players on one of the major deals that looks like it can get worked out. A. 14 playoff teams, a minimum salary of around $700,000 and around $40 million in a bonus pool divided among the top pre-arbitration players. or B. 12 playoff teams, a minimum salary of around $675,000 and around $20 million in the pre-arbitration bonus pool. 

#3 Amaury, NHL announced that the NHL immediately has cut all ties with the Russian hockey leagues and any league affiliated with Russia because of the attacks and invasion on Ukraine. The league will cease doing business with any Russian league and freeze any new players coming to the NHL. The NHL currently has 50 Russian players who can stay on board with the their NHL teams.

#4 Amaury, It’s a very difficult time for the Russian players and their families who have been put in a rock and hard place. The Washington Capitals Alex Ovechkin said that he hopes for peace and knows that this will be a long tried and true test for NHL Russian players and their families.

#5 Florida Marlins CEO Derek Jeter is stepping down from the top position and he also is giving up being a part owner as well, Jeter who came over from the New York Yankees after retiring to be CEO at the Marlins.

#6 Jeter’s first act of duty when took over as CEO in 2017 was to fire long time former Marlins players who worked in the front office, Andre Dawson, Tony Perez, Jeff Conine, and former manager Jack McKeon which were unpopular moves at the time.

Sharks Beat Kraken 3-1, End First Goal Drought

SAN JOSE– The San Jose Sharks defeated the Seattle Kraken 3-1 Sunday, handing Seattle their seventh loss in a row. Ryan Dzingel, Scott Reedy and Jonah Gadjovich scored for the Sharks. James Reimer made 39 saves for the win. Morgan Geekie scored for Seattle and Phillipp Grubauer made 21 saves in the loss.

The game was Reimer’s eleventh start in a row. After the game, he was asked about his fatigue level. He said:

“When you’re winning you feel a lot better than when you’re losing. So, yeah, I mean, obviously, you know, we’ve had a couple games here in a row. Like I said, I enjoy playing, I enjoy coming to the rink and working and so, it’s fun to play so I’ll never say I’m too tired to play.”

The Sharks got the first goal of the game, for a the first time in a long time. Ryan Dzingel scored it, his first as a Shark, at 17:19 of the first period. Noah Gregor carried the puck in deep then made a backwards pass to Logan Couture above the circle. Couture passed it across the slot to Dzingle for the shot.

Morgan Geekie tied the game just ten seconds later. As Geekie skated to the net, he fanned on a shot but gathered the puck up for a last-second backhand as he passed the post. Assists went to Ryan Donato and Austin Czarnik.

The Kraken out-shot the Sharks 19-4 in the first period.

Early in the second, Calle Jarnkrok put the puck in the net but the goal was called back after the Sharks challenged for goaltender interference. Marcus Johansson got a leg tangled up with Reimer after trying to get around Vlasic in front of the blue paint.

Scott Reedy made it 2-1 Sharks with his first NHL goal at 7:15 of the second period. He had just missed scoring when he took too long to take the shot. After the next face-off, the puck came to him and he took the shot even before the face-off scrum had cleared. Jasper Weatherby got the assist.

The second period was busy for defenseman Jacob Middleton. He fought Jeremy Lauzon a couple of minutes into the period. The he went back to the box with Ryan Donato for matching roughing minors. The Sharks recovered in the shot department, winning 11-9. Their power play had no shots but their penalty kill had one had gave up just one shot to the Kraken.

Jonah Gadjovich scored his first NHL goal at 14:37 to make it 3-1. A shot from Brent Burns went off of the goaltender and then off of Gadjovich’s skate. Seattle challenged it for goaltender interference but the goal was upheld. Assists went to Weatherby and Burns.

The total shot count was 40-24 Kraken. In the third period, the Kraken took three penalties and the Sharks power play got four shots in the period. San Jose had a slight edge in the face-off circle at 54% for the game.

Jonathan Dahlen was out due to illness and so Reedy was called up from the AHL. Defenseman Mario Ferraro, injured in Saturday’s game, had surgery to repair a broken leg. He will be out for six to eight weeks. Defenseman Nicolas Meloche, however, was back on the ice for Sunday’s game. Andrew Cogliano missed a second game attending to a personal matter.

The Sharks next play on Tuesday at 7:00 PM PT in Las Vegas against the Golden Knights.

#1 Seven loses in a row came to an end on Thursday night against the New York Islanders in a shootout how relieved are the San Jose Sharks?

#2  James Reimer made 44 saves for the win in his ninth start in a row.

#3 Logan Couture, Jasper Weatherby and Alexander Barabanov scored for the Sharks. Brock Nelson, Zach Parise and Adam Pelech scored for New York. Ilya Sorokin made 25 saves in the loss.

#4 James Reimer stopped all three shots in the shootout and Logan Couture scored. Ilya Sorokin stopped a shot from Tomas Hertl.

#5 The Sharks now play back to back games this weekend against the Boston Bruins and the Seattle Kraken at SAP Center how do you see the Sharks coming off snapping a seven game loss streak going into these games on back to back nights.

NHL podcast with Matt Harrington:

#1 Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin said that the war in Ukraine is hard for both countries and that Ovechkin said he has friends in both Russia and the Ukraine and said that he hopes for peace soon.

#2 The St Louis Blues were able to continue their six game win streak with a 5-3 win over the Buffalo Sabers on Friday night. The Blues Jordan Kyrou scored twice to help St Louis get a two goal win.

#3 The Montreal Canadiens Andrew Hammond made 30 saves Sunday in his Habs debut against the New York Islanders in a 3-2 shootout win. Hammond gets the nod to start tonight against the Ottawa Senators. How big of a difference do you see Hammond making for the Canadiens?

#4 Montreal goaltender Carey Price whose been going through knee rehab since January is said to be making improvements but is not ready to hit the ice just yet. He had knee surgery back in July and his recovery was expected to be 10-12 weeks but is still in rehab.

#5 The New York Islanders Zdeno Charo broke the NHL record for games played by a defenseman he set the record at 1652 games surpassing Chris Chelios by one game.
