Headline Sports podcast with Tony Renteria: Warriors hang with Rockets to take series lead; Sharks’ Pavelski a big influence that inspires; plus more

On the Headline Sports podcast with Tony Renteria:

#1 The Golden State Warriors kept in step with the Houston Rockets with a 104-99 win. A game that went right down to the wire, which shows the Rockets dropped the first two of this series and came back to even it up, but the Warriors won Game 5 on the home floor.

#2 The San Jose Sharks advance to the third round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs Game 7 was a squeaker in a 3-2 win. The Sharks had to be inspired after their team captain Joe Pavelski came out of the IL after suffering a concussion in round one, Game 7 and went out in Game 7 of the second round against the Avalanche and scored a goal.

#3 The Oakland A’s, who had a game delay because of lighting issues on Tuesday night; then on Wednesday night, the game with the Cincinnati Reds went extra innings. Either way you look at it there were no short games in this series.

#4 There are four quarterbacks who could replace quarterback Derek Carr for 2020. What are the reasons why he would be leaving and what do you think of the four quarterbacks who could replace him?

#5 The San Francisco 49ers signed offensive lineman Wesley Johnson, Johnson spent time with five teams and signed with the 49ers for a one-year deal. Johnson played with the Detroit Lions and the Miami Dolphins for 10 games last season.

On the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs podcast with Matt:

#1 With the San Jose Sharks Joe Pavelski skating on Wednesday and wearing full head gear with mouth protector, how soon is he expected to come back?

#2 The Sharks’ Erik Karlsson has skated much better. He has four shots against Colorado in 25:24, which is much better than he shot against Vegas in the first round.

#3 Carolina Hurricanes goals from Teuvo Teravainen and Greg McKegg got the New York Islanders goalie pulled. The Canes goalie Curtis McElhinney stoppd 26 shots — that’s his second best of his postseason career. Carolina picked up a 5-2 win to sweep the New York Islanders in four games.

#4 The Dallas Stars’ Jason Spezza picked up a crucial goal and Stars goalie Ben Bishop stopped 38 shots in the Stars’ 2-1 win over the Blues to take a 3-2 series lead.

#5 Columbus and Boston are tied in their series 2-2 and a crucial Game 5 is tonight in Boston. Matt tells us his expectations in this one.

NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs/San Jose Sharks podcast with Len Shapiro: Jones, a huge instrument in shutting down Avalanche for Game 5 tonight

On the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs/SJ Sharks podcast with Len:

#1 Judging from the San Jose Sharks and the Colorado Avalanche, does Len see this series going to seven games?

#2 How much of a difference in goal has Avalanche goaltender Philipp Grubauer made in this series he’s been 93% average in league? His big game was game four when he shutout the Sharks 3-0 saved 32 shots in game four.

#3 Also, not to take anything away from Sharks goalie Martin Jones, whose save percentage is .910 in the postseason, which is up from his regular season save percentage of .896.

#4 Although the series is tied at 2-2, it’s important to note the Sharks won two of the first three games of this series and can lend into Game 5.

#5 The Avalanche’s Nathan McKinnon has six goals and seven assists in eight playoff games. How important is it for the Sharks defense to key in on him in Game 5?

#6 The Sharks have not been able to put a decent power play together in this series going 1-11.

#7 Thornton, Sorenson, LeBanc have combined for one assist in the last three games

#8 Hertl and Kane do not have a point in the last two games, Pavelski is a no show and will not play

NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs podcast with Joe Lami: Avalanche goaltender Grubauer puts the stop on Sharks’ scoring, series tied 2-2

On the NHL Stanley Cup Playoff podcast with Joe:

#1 The Colorado Avalanche got out of the Pepsi Center in Game 4 with their hockey lives, tying the San Jose Sharks in the series 2-2. The last thing the Avalanche wanted to do was go back to San Jose for a Game 5 down 3-1.

#2 The Sharks’ Logan Couture blamed the turnovers for the loss.

#3 The Sharks just couldn’t get any offense going in the 3-0 shutout. Couture said they got some good looks, but just couldn’t score.

#4 The Avs goalie Philipp Grubauer stopped 32 shots for the shutout. Joe talks about his work between the pipes.

#5 So its onto Game 5 on Saturday night at SAP Center, who has the upper hand now and will the Sharks be able to take advantage of home ice?

NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs/San Jose Sharks podcast with Mary Lisa Walsh: A win by the Sharks in Game 4 almost assures team to advance

On the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs/San Jose Sharks podcast with Mary Lisa:

#1 The San Jose Sharks hold a 2-1 series lead on the Colorado Avalanche with Game 4 slated for Thursday night. The Sharks look like they have bead on things after they beat the Avs 4-2 in Game 3 at the Pepsi Center.

#2 The Sharks’ Logan Couture, who scored a hat trick, just couldn’t be contained. Once he got the puck, he never hesitated on throwing it on net.

#3 Sharks goaltender Martin Jones is thankful for the offensive help of Couture, saying his performance was clutch and he was all the difference in a game like that.

#4 To demonstrate how purposeful the Sharks were, they wasted no time in the first period, taking a 2-0 lead and taking the wind out of the Avs’ sails.

#5 Game 4 tonight this is a must win situation for the Avs or their season could end very soon. They have home ice and need a win to tie the series up. A win by the Sharks, taking a 3-1 series lead back to San Jose, could almost assure the Sharks a great chance to advance to the next round.

That’s Amaury’s News and Commentary podcast with Barbara Mason: A’s waterfront ballpark no longer just a dream

Barbara Mason filling in for Amaury Pi-Gonzalez on That’s Amaury’s News and Commentary podcast:

#1 How important is it for the Oakland A’s to have received Legislative approval on two bills SB293 and AB1191 to build at Jack London Square’s Howard Terminal?

#2 The park will be privately financed, which will have affordable housing, commercial properties and retail. This is a moment that A’s president David Kaval and the A’s have longed for.

#3 The A’s will be the only remaining team left in Oakland after the Golden State Warriors and Oakland Raiders move. Everything after last week’s legislative meetings regarding the A’s new ballpark had fallen in place, and after the meetings, it looks much better than before for the A’s to start their move to Howard Terminal.

#4 How much would you agree that it’s almost like four on one when the Houston Rockets play the Golden State Warriors particularly during the postseason? It’s the Warriors’ Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, and Draymond Green vs. the Rockets’ James Harden.

#5 The San Jose Sharks are in a 1-1 series tie with the Colorado Avalanche. The Sharks opened the series with a 5-2 win and dropped game two 4-3. In all, the Sharks have battled in each of the games and did it without their team captain Joe Pavelski, whose recovery from being knocked out in round one, Game 7 against the Vegas Golden Knights.

azcentral.com photo: San Jose Sharks’ Joe Pavelski gets help from his teammates in Game 7 on Tuesday, April 23rd at SAP Center in San Jose after getting crossed-checked in the chest, not in the head as ruled by the officials by Cody Eakin of the Vegas Golden Knights. NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs/San Jose Sharks podcast with Len Shapiro: Changed Sharks on track to do some damage in Colorado series

On the San Jose Sharks podcast with Len:

#1 Five different players scored a goal each in Friday night’s game one. Joe Thornton, Gus Nyquist, Kevin Labanc, Brent Burns and Marcus Sorensen scored for the Sharks.

#2 The Sharks gave up the first goal and then in the second period and scored three unanswered goals. Does that pretty much describe the character of this team?

#3 The Colorado Avalanche outshot the Sharks in the first period 13-9 and won 47% of their faceoffs.

#4 The San Jose Sharks outshot the Avalanche in the second period 13-11 and won 43% of faceoffs, so a little adjustment there.

#5 How different how much of a big change has Sharks head coach Peter DeBoer has this team since they were down 3-1 to the Vegas Golden Knights in the first round?

NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs podcast with Matt Harrington: Sharks stay on track with game plan, take 1-0 lead into Sunday’s Game 2; Canes’ Staal gets OT goal to edge Isles

yahoosports.com photo: Martin Jones of the San Jose Sharks protects the nets on Friday night in game one against the Colorado Avalanche, Jones stopped 26 shots.

On the NHL Stanley Cup Playoff podcast with Matt:

#1 The San Jose Sharks came out again on Friday in game one of the second round against the Colorado Avalanche. There was no let down or any trouble much like the struggles they had in round one with the Vegas Golden Knights with a convincing 5-2 victory.

#2 The Sharks rallied twice in the contest after being one goal down and won their fourth straight playoff game.

#3 It was the second period when the Sharks started to take over the contest, and with the help of Sharks goalie Martin Jones, the Sharks were able to hold off the Avalanche as Jones stopped 26 shots.

#4 The Carolina Hurricanes’ Jordan Staal got an overtime goal at 4:04 to lead the Canes past the New York Islanders in the opening game of the second round series to take a 1-0 lead. The Hurricanes defeated the Isles in a razor close game 1-0.

#5 It was an amazing goal of sorts as the Canes’ Nino Niederreiter took a shot that caromed of the boards where Staal took the puck on the right side and put it past Isles goalie Robin Lehner’s skate.
