#1 Matt how important is it that the Tampa Bay Lightning picked up Brandon Hagel in exchange for forwards Boris Katchouk and Taylor Raddysh from the Chicago Blackhawks?

#2 Matt, talk about the key winning goal by the Buffalo Sabers Tage Thompson that helped get the win over the Calgary Flames in overtime at 3:07 for a narrow 1-0 win. Also big hand for the Sabers goaltender Dustin Tokarski who stopped 24 shots for the shutout.

#3 The Ottawa Senators Josh Norris help end the Senators three game losing streak with a go ahead goal in the third period that handed the Senators a 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday night. The Sens Aaron Forsberg stopped 28 out 29 shots.

#4 The injuries are piling up for the Vegas Golden Knights the latest have center Jack Eichel doubtful for against the Los Angeles Kings for Saturday. Eichel blocked a shot with his hand and could sit out. His teammates goaltender Robin Lehner, two defencemen Brayden McNabb and Alec Martinez and three forwards Mark Stone, Max Pacioretty, and Reilly Smith are all on the injured list. Inspite of that the Knights snapped a five game losing streak with a win over the Florida Panthers 5-3 on Thursday night.

#5 Matt, just to name a few of the players who are trade deadline as of this morning maybe you could update us, the Vancouver Canucks Brock Boeser, New York Islanders Cal Clutterbuck, Andrew Copp Winnipeg Jets, Jake DeBrusk Boston Bruins, and Marc Andre Fleury Chicago Blackhawks. #1 Marko, you might remember this guy Joe Pavelski of the Dallas Stars he signed on Friday an extension for the 2022-23 season with the Dallas Stars for $5.5. million. Pavelski leads the Stars in scoring and could have become a unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

#2 Pavelski an ex Shark said that he and his family loved Dallas since day one and are committed to stay and in Dallas and hopefully finish his career there. Will the Stars keep Pavelski as long as they can?

#3 The Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Petr Mrazek will be in net for the Leafs this Sunday at the 2022 Tim Horton Heritage Classic. The Leafs other goalie Jack Campbell is out for at least two weeks with a rib injury and the Leafs used back up goalie Erik Kallgren filled in for Mrazek.

#4 How badly does it hurt the Detroit Red Wings losing forward Robby Fabbri for the rest of the season due to a right knee injury. Wings head coach Jeff Blashill said they are trying to get a second opinion but it’s really looking like Fabbri is out for the season.

#5 The Calgary Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau is in the last and final year of this six year contract and general manager Brad Treliving said the Flames are doing everything they can to sign Gaudreau before the March 21st trade deadline.

#1 The Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens face off tonight with no crowd limits, mask mandate still in effect. They expect 18,000 fans at Rogers Centre in Montreal. Fans are happy they get to fill the arena how safe will this decision be?

#2 Matt, the Toronto Maple Leafs say they have no plans to deal goaltender Jack Campbell and Petr Mrazek. Both goaltenders combined have allowed 31 goals in the last seven games there have been calls in Toronto by fans and the media to trade one of the goalies. Kyle Dubas the Leafs general manager said he doesn’t need to deal either goalie but would like to obtain more defense.

#3 Matt how important is it that the Philadelphia Flyers Kevin Hayes has returned to the line up after missing 15 games and is expected to return this Saturday. Hayes said he had a bad groin infection that spread to his left side. Hayes says he feels pretty good now.

#4 The San Jose Sharks goaltender James Reimer is week to week with a lower body injury he sustained in Las Vegas against the Golden Knights on Tuesday who played in his 12th straight game. Matt, was it a matter of the Sharks just over played Reimer or some way some how Reimer was going to run out of gas and something was going to happen. Also talk who the Sharks most likely will go with in goal Adin Hill, Zachary Sawchenko, or Alex Stalock?

#5 Matt, the Carolina Hurricanes will get a shot at hosting the Stadium Series on Feb 18, 2023 when they host Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals at Carter-Finley Stadium at North Carolina State University in Raleigh NC.

#1 Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin said that the war in Ukraine is hard for both countries and that Ovechkin said he has friends in both Russia and the Ukraine and said that he hopes for peace soon.

#2 The St Louis Blues were able to continue their six game win streak with a 5-3 win over the Buffalo Sabers on Friday night. The Blues Jordan Kyrou scored twice to help St Louis get a two goal win.

#3 The Montreal Canadiens Andrew Hammond made 30 saves Sunday in his Habs debut against the New York Islanders in a 3-2 shootout win. Hammond gets the nod to start tonight against the Ottawa Senators. How big of a difference do you see Hammond making for the Canadiens?

#4 Montreal goaltender Carey Price whose been going through knee rehab since January is said to be making improvements but is not ready to hit the ice just yet. He had knee surgery back in July and his recovery was expected to be 10-12 weeks but is still in rehab.

#5 The New York Islanders Zdeno Charo broke the NHL record for games played by a defenseman he set the record at 1652 games surpassing Chris Chelios by one game.

#1 Matt, on Tue 8th the Boston Bruins Brad Marchand who has had previous suspensions and fines for misconduct. On Tuesday Marchand sucker punched Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry in the jaw while the goaltender was on his knees after freezing the puck. After the linesman grabbed hold of Marchand while skating him off the ice they got in front of the net where Marchand raised his stick and caught Jarry in the chin area well after play had ended.

#2 Seeing how the play went is Marchand’s six game suspension a light penalty considering it was a double match penalty or is a roughing, misconduct and double match penalty a six game suspension according to the CBA?

#3 The New York Rangers Kappo Kakko will be out at least one more month with an upper body injury. Rangers head coach Gerard Gallant says that Kakko is day to day. Kakko felt discomfort while skating in warm ups back on Jan 22nd against the Arizona Coyotes. Kakko has 33 goals and is tied with the Edmonton Oilers Leon Draisaittl, Edmonton Oilers for the NHL lead.

#4 Evgeni Malkin whose been out for Covid 19 protocols has missed two games on Tuesday and Thursday. Malkin skated with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday and will be a game time decision on Sunday according to head coach Mike Sullivan.

#5 The Boston Bruins Patrice Bergeron will is listed day to day due to an upper body injury and won’t be able to play tonight against the Ottawa Senators. Bergeron had a collision with the Penguins Sid Crosby at 8:44 during the third period Tuesday in a 4-2 loss.

#1 Matt, with Evander Kane signing on with the Edmonton Oilers this week it didn’t take long for someone in the Canadian media to take a shot at him. TSN radio’s Jeff O’Neill said on TSN 1050 that Kane should repair his relationship with his daughter. Kane responded wishing O’Neill played in the NHL and asking what does O’Neill know about his relationship with his daughter?

#2 The Seattle Kraken ran into some rough weather their game against the New York Islanders has been postponed due to emergency winter storm warnings and rescheduled for Wed Feb 2 at UBS Arena in Elmont. The Kraken are scheduled for a match with the New York Rangers for Sun Jan 30th Matt any word if they’ll play that game?

#3 Matt, talk about the Colorado Avalanche’s Nathan MacKinnon who was hit by the Boston Bruins Taylor Hall during Wednesday’s game in the first period at 2:22 the hit put MacKinnon face down on the ice and he was listed with a concussion and facial fracture.

#4 The New York Rangers Adam Fox will not play in the All Star game due to an upper body injury he will miss three games on Fri vs. Minnesota, Sun vs. Seattle, and Tue vs. Florida. Fox got pinned against the boards by the Columbus Blue Jackets Vladislav Gavrikov in the third period of Thursday’s game.

#5 NHL All Star game will be played on Sat Feb 5th at the T Mobile Center in Las Vegas. This will mark the first time in Vegas Golden Knights history that the Knights organization will host the mid-winter classic. The All Star game skills contest will be on Fri Feb 4th to start things off.

#1 Matt, legendary former New York Islander Clark Gillies passed away at age 67. Gillies was noted as one of the all time talents in Islanders history career he scored 319 goals, had 378 assists, in 958 regular season games. In the Stanley Cup Playoffs career 47 goals and 47 assists in 164 games.

#2 The Winnipeg Jets Blake Wheeler who hasn’t played since Dec 10th is a possibility in getting into today’s game against the Boston Bruins. Wheeler suffered a knee injury. Wheeler has 17 points, one goal, and 16 assists in 22 games.

#3 The Anaheim Ducks were up and at em for Friday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning at the Duck Pond in Anaheim. The 5-1 win also snaps the Ducks four game losing streak and the Bolts four game win streak. One of the key things the Ducks executed was a seven for seven penalty kill.

#4 Matt, the NHL looks forward to completing some 95 rescheduled games due to Covid 19 protocol postponements between Feb 7-22. All 32 NHL teams will be able to now complete their missing games before the end of the regular season on April 29th.

#5 Montreal Canadiens top flight goaltender Jake Allen is out for eight weeks due to a lower body injury. Allen came out of the first period against the Bruins on Jan 12th in a 5-1 loss. Allen will be replaced by back ups Sam Montembeault who has played in 16 games this season and has a goals against average of 3.73 and Clayden Primeau has played in four games with a goals against average of 4.11.

#1 The Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin is back he returned after missing practice Friday after suffering from an upper body injury. Ovechkin made it to Saturday morning’s skate and played against the New York Islanders in the afternoon. Ovechkin has not missed a game this season.

#2 The Toronto Maple Leafs Mitchell Marner and Pierre Engvall are both expected to return tonight against the St Louis Blues both missed three games due to Covid 19 protocols. The Leafs are glad to have them back in the line up Marner has 21 points and Engvall with ten points in 32 games.

#3 The Anaheim Ducks Troy Terry is a question mark for today’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks. Terry was out on Covid 19 protocols. The Ducks 19-14-7 second in the NHL Pacific.

#4 Aisha Visram made NHL history becoming the first woman to serve behind the bench in an NHL game as head trainer for the Los Angeles Kings. Visram got the call to serve after members of Kings staff were placed on Covid 19 protocols.

#5 Matt, the Minnesota Wild’s Kirill Kaprizov, the New York Rangers Adam Fox, and Colorado Avalanche’s Cale Makar were three of 18 first time All Star selections for Sat Feb 5th’s All Star game in Las Vegas. The trio has had themselves quite a first half.

#1 It wouldn’t be a show without opening it up about the power play goal king Alexander Ovechkin who mailed home the NHL record most power play goals in history on Friday night with number 275 against the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars in Detroit.

#2 Look out Matt for those full of fired up Vegas Golden Knights as they defeat the Anaheim Ducks in Las Vegas 3-1. This was the Knights tenth win in 12 games in a 3-1 win. The Knights Max Pacioretty enjoyed the victory the Pacioretty’s first since coming back from wrist surgery on Thursday.

#3 You knew the New Jersey Devils (12-15-5) Jack Hughes wouldn’t disappoint scoring two goals and an assist for three points on Friday night with a game winning goal at 2:55 in the third period against the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers Conner McDavid scored two goals. The Devils edged the Oilers 6-5.

#4 In the coldest outdoor game record low of three degrees the Winter Classic between the visiting St Louis Blues and the Minnesota Wild at Target Field in Minnesota was the coldest on record. The NHL has ordered 40,000 hand warmers for fans for today’s outdoor game.

#5 Matt, nine games postponed means 90 games scratched due to Covid 19 protocols. The New York Islanders have games in Seattle on Tue, at Vancouver on Wed, in Edmonton on Jan 8, and at Calgary on Jan 11th all postponed. The games will be made up later.

#1 Matt, how important was it to delay the Holiday shutdown one more day as NHL action returns on Tuesday night instead of Monday night.

#2 The NHL Discover Winter Classic is on target to be played between St Louis Blues (17-9-5) and Minnesota Wild (9-19-2) at Target Field is still scheduled to be played on Sat Jan 1 barring no further Covid interruptions.

#3 According to former NHL great Wayne Gretzky said that Washington Capitals (18-6-7) Alexander Ovechkin will pass him up for most goals scored. Ovechkin could do it with 143 goals remaining. Ovechkin has 22 goals in 31 games this season. Gretzky said he’s on his way to 40-50 goals this season there is no he will break the record.

#4 It’s really no surprise that the NHL called off it’s players from participating in the Beijing 2020 Winter Olympics due to the surge in positive tests for Covid 19. The Feb 6-22 Olympic schedule now scratched the league will use those dates to make up games that were postponed.

#5 The Boston Bruins (14-10-2) surprisingly are in fifth place in the Atlantic Division three points out of a playoff spot. The Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy said that there is a lot of hockey to be played yet and their looking for some consistency to get right back in the hunt again.
