#1 Jerry, the New York Yankees Giancarlo Stanton pointed out after Wednesday’s game that he’s seen a lot of teams fold after the opposition gets the lead in ball games but not with this Yankees team as they came back after the Oakland A’s started out with a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.

#2 Stanton who homered in the game said this Yankee team knows how to push the envelope night in and night out and they do have one of the best offenses in baseball to make that stand up.

#3 Stanton and Aaron Judge who both homered for New York have the best record in MLB for comebacks leading majors with 24.

#4 The A’s after scoring those three runs in the top of the first inning continue to struggle at the plate where they didn’t score a run after the first inning and lost by two runs 5-3.

#5 After getting swept in New York the A’s are off to Seattle they will face the Mariners for a four game series starting Thursday night at T-Mobile Field in Seattle the A’s will start right hander Adrian Martinez (1-0, 0.00) going for the Mariners (Logan Gilbert 8-3, 2.44) 7:10 pm PDT

NEW YORK—The Oakland Athletics fell 5-3 on Wednesday afternoon and got swept in the three-game series against the best in baseball, the New York Yankees. Despite hitting a new low at Yankee Stadium, A’s manager Mark Kotsay said the “team fights, we always have and we’ll continue to.”

Oakland took an early lead with Stephen Piscotty, fresh off the injured list, hitting a two-run double. Elvis Andrus followed with an RBI single, putting the A’s up 3-0. But the Yankees quickly capitalized on left-handed pitcher Cole Irvin’s mistakes. In the first inning, Aaron Judge hit his 29th home run of the season, and DJ LeMahieu scored, cutting the A’s lead to 3-2.

In the third inning, Giancarlo Stanton hit a slugger of his own, his 19th of the season, allowing LeMahieu and Judge to score. The Yankees took a 5-3 lead, and the A’s were unable to produce any more runs.

Irvin (2-6) threw a career-high 103 pitches in seven innings, allowed six hits, one walk and struck out five. His grooved 3-2 fastball to Judge and 1-2 change-up to Stanton cost the A’s.

“I’m disappointed with the early runs,” said Irvin. “I felt like a threw a good change-up to Stanton but throwing a fastball down the middle to Judge is probably not the best idea. It’s about execution, but all-in-all I felt like I had a pretty strong day in my first start at Yankee Stadium.”

Irvin asked to go out after the seventh inning, and Kotsay conferred.

“Just two mistakes to two really good hitters and it ended up costing him five runs,” Kotsay said. “After the Stanton home run, he got back, engaged and went seven innings. Kind of a tale of two stories there, the first time around, then twice through the lineup. He kept us in the game and (we had) an opportunity to at least get back in it.”

Yankees right-handed pitcher Jameson Taillon (9-1) gave up only three runs in five innings and threw 105 pitches.

The A’s lost Monday’s game 9-5 and Tuesday’s 2-1. They’ve dropped to 25-52, while the Yankees improved to an MLB-best 56-20 (.737) to start the season. Kotsay said his team is capable of winning against even the best, but has not executed.

“We’re being competitive in terms of having a chance to beat these guys,” Kotsay said. “We know we can play with any team in baseball. We have that ability. We just have to put it together.”

The A’s head back west to finish their ten-game road trip with a four-game series against the Seattle Mariners. First pitch for game one on Thursday is at 7:10 p.m. The A’s will start right hander Adrian Martinez (1-0, 0.00) going for the Mariners (Logan Gilbert 8-3, 2.44) 7:10 pm PDT

A’s Montas fails to get run support in loss to Yanks 2-1; New York has 2-0 series lead on Oakland

NEW YORK.—Oakland Athletics right-handed pitcher Frankie Montas held the league-leading New York Yankees to two runs in six innings, but his teammates came up short on offense and lost 2-1 in game two of the series at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Montas had an impressive first start at Yankee Stadium. However, the A’s could not get a runner past second base until the ninth inning.

“I can’t go out there and pitch and worry about run support. I’ve got to do my job and try to keep the team in the game,” said Montas. “I mean, they’re trying to score runs. It’s not like they don’t want to.”

Oakland has scored one or less runs in a dozen of Montas’ 16 starts – and been shut out four times.

Montas tied his season-high with 105 pitches, allowed four hits, two walks and struck out seven. Among the seven he struck out was Aaron Judge, who leads the MLB in homers. A’s manager Mark Kotsay acknowledged Montas’ contribution to the team, as his record fell to 3-8.

“Frankie pitched great again and continues to go out and give us a chance to win,” said Kotsay. “He pitched six innings against a great team, and gets a loss for it.”

Despite not getting wins for his efforts, Montas has not appeared extremely frustrated, said Kotsay, praising his attitude.

“You don’t have to encourage Frankie. Frankie’s a beast. He’s going to keep pitching,” Kotsay said. “He’s a leader on our staff and a competitor. He knows where we’re at. We’ve had our struggles scoring runs.”

In the first inning, Jose Trevino singled on a ground ball to right field and DJ LeMahieu scored, putting the Yankees up 1-0. Marwin Gonzalez hit a home run on a fly ball to right center field in the second, boosting New York’s lead to 2-0.

Elvis Andrus in the ninth inning singled on a ground ball to center field, allowing Sean Murphy to score and cutting the Yankees’ lead to 2-1. But it was too little too late.

The Yankees improved to 55-20, their best 75-game start in MLB since the 2001 Seattle Mariners. Meanwhile, the A’s dropped to 25-51, the worst record in the big leagues. The A’s are 2-3 in their ten-game road trip that ends in Seattle.

First pitch for the last game of the three-game series at Yankee Stadium is at 10:05 a.m. PT on Wednesday. The A’s will start Cole Irvin (2-5, 3.29) he’ll be opposed by the Yankees Jameson Taillon (8-1, 3.19).

NEW YORK. – The struggling Oakland Athletics appeared to be on their way to upsetting the best team in baseball – but the New York Yankees scored six times in the seventh inning and sealed a 9-5 victory at Yankee Stadium on Monday night.

Anthony Rizzo hit a homer to right center off Paul Blackburn’s fastball to put the Yankees up 1-0 in the first inning.

In the third inning, Ramón Laureano doubled on a fly ball to left fielder Aaron Hicks. The umpire reviewed the play to see if it was a three-run homer, but the call on the field stood, and the game was tied.

With the bases loaded, Elvis Andrus hit a double, allowing Christian Bethancourt, Laureano and Sean Murphy to score and putting the A’s up 4-1. Then Sheldon Neuse hit a single and Andrus scored, boosting Oakland to 5-1.

In the fourth inning, Giancarlo Stanton hit a home run on a fly ball to left center, pushing the score 5-2.

Leading MVP contender Aaron Judge singled on a line drive to left fielder Tony Kemp, deflected by Andrus, and DJ LeMahieu scored, to reduce Oakland’s lead to 5-3.

A’s starter Blackburn threw 91 pitches in five innings, allowed five hits, three errors, two walks, seven strikeouts and two homers.

“Couple of solo shots there, and then in the fifth one that tips off Elvis’ glove,” said Blackburn.

The right-handed pitcher added that he felt his sinker was the best it has been so far this season.

“Being able to move it to both sides of the plate,” Blackburn said, “Threw a couple of big change-ups today when I needed it. I felt good.”

The decisive seventh inning started with Aaron Judge and Stanton reaching base after swings hit catcher Sean Murphy’s glove. Murphy was called twice for catcher’s interference.

“Murphy was reaching in to get the ball, he’s one of the best at getting a low strike call,” said A’s manager Mark Kotsay. “It impacted that inning so it was an unusual night for that to happen.”

Josh Donaldson doubled on a sharp line drive to left field, then Jose Trevino doubled on a line drive, allowing Stanton and Donaldson to score. Marwin Gonzalez singled and Trevino scored, putting the Yankees up 9-5.

The A’s loss in game one of the three-game series dropped their record to 25-50, the worst in the league. Meanwhile, the Yankees (53-20) have a 12-game lead over the American League East. It was New York’s 23rd comeback.

First pitch for game two on Tuesday is at 4:05 p.m. PT. — The A’s will be starting Frankie Montas (3-7, 3.21) and for the Yankees JP Sears (2-0, 0.00).

After winning their 3-game series in Kansas City, the Oakland A’s are now in New York to face the New York Yankees for the first time this season. A three-game series, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. against the team with the best record in major league baseball, Yankees 53-20 will play the A’s 25-49, with the other 28 MLB teams in the middle.

The great disparity in records doesn’t mean the Yankees will sweep. The beauty of baseball, with so many games during a marathon of a season is that at any given time the team that is a long shot can come out on top.

Although these teams (at this time during the season) closing into the conclusion of the first half are at the top and bottom of major league baseball, one on a pace to win 100 or more games and the other one to lose 100 or more games.

After this series in the Bronx, the A’s will have 88 games left and the Yankees 89 to complete the 2022 regular season schedule. The Yankees could beat the best record for a regular season, which belongs to the 2016 Seattle Mariners 116-46, as well as the 1906 Chicago Cubs who also won 116 games.

In 2001 the Oakland A’s ended with 102-60 and 14 games behind Seattle, that year the A’s played to a .630 percentage. The next season, 2002 A’s had another terrific season 103-59 as they played to a .636 percentage. Both times they failed to win the league and advance to the World Series.

After the Bronx, the A’s will fly across the country to Seattle to face the division rivals Mariners for 4 games and then back to the Oakland Coliseum for a six-game home-stand on the 4th of July for 3 games against Toronto and 3 against Houston. Kansas City is the only team with a losing record that the A’s will face during this stretch.

After this week in New York, the Yankees will play the Athletics once more this year, at Oakland on August 25-28 a four-game series. At that time they could be on their way to the best record ever. But what we can predict is those four games at the Oakland Coliseum will be by far the best attendance for a series this season at the home of the A’s.

#1 Oakland A’s (25-49) for the second day in a row put together back to back wins this one coming on Sunday at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City with a 5-3 win over the Kansas City Royals (26-45).

#2 The A’s got offensive punch something they had been missing for most of the month of June when the A’s Seth Brown belted his tenth home run for 2022 and Nick Allen slugged a couple of hits which turned out to be RBIs.

#3 Things started looking up until the Royals answered right back in the bottom of the sixth inning with a couple of runs of their own to tie it up 2-2.

#4 The Royals Carlos Santana in the sixth hit a two RBI single and Edward Oliveras got a bloop single that scored three runs for all of Kansas City’s offense for the afternoon. With the Royals in front 3-2 the A’s came right back and scored twice in the top of the seventh thanks to Nick Allen’s two run RBI the A’s then went up 4-3. Cristian Pache hit for an RBI single that gave Oakland some cushion for the eventual win 5-3.

#5 The A’s head to the Big Apple and face the hottest team in the Majors on Monday night the New York Yankees (50-20) the Yankees have won six of their last ten games. The A’s will start Paul Blackburn (6-3, 2.97) he’ll be opposed by Jordan Montgomery (3-1, 2.97) a 4:05 pm PDT first pitch.

OAKLAND–For the first time this 2022 season there will be a third wild card team on each league. No division in baseball is better than the American League East, with the New York Yankees walking-away with the best record in baseball and Toronto, Tampa Bay and Boston poised for a tremendous race.

For the first time ever, a division could have three wild card teams going into the postseason and a total of four of the five teams in this division playing in October.

The American League East is the only division in baseball with four teams playing over .500. In the AL West, there is only one team to beat, Dusty Baker’s Houston Astros, they are the best team and will stay in first place.

The LA Angels are sputtering again, after a very nice start, they went into a funk lost 14 in a row, from May 25 to June 8,and Joe Maddon (one of the best managers in baseball) was sent packing.

Next managerial change could come from Seattle, where expectations were high for this team to win this year. Manager Scott Servais and General Manager Jerry DiPoto are in the hot seat. The Texas Rangers spend a fortune (close to half billion dollars) signing Corey Seager and Marcus Semien, they are both starting to play the way everybody expected, but I do not believe they have the pitching to overtake their State rivals Houston Astros.

The Oakland A’s are what they are. All the other teams have more established talent, they are trying to compete with rookie manager Mark Kotsay, a good baseball man, but the best jockey in the world cannot win the race if the horse is limping.

In the Central Division, considered the weakest in all the major leagues, supposed to be an easy one for the Chicago White Sox, but the great Tony LaRussa is not having much fun so far, star closer Liam Hendriks just placed into the IL.

The Minnesota Twins will be in the playoffs, as of today leading that division and the Cleveland Guardians are playing good baseball, leading the way at third-base, José Ramirez an early candidate for MVP. Watch out for the Indians, sorry, the Guardians, they have a good team and a terrific manager in Terry Francona.

There are some 100 games left for each team this season. While in New York they are talking about a Subway Series, Mets vs Yankees. Most recently, in 2000 the New York teams faced each other with the Yankees winning in five games, a memorable series, which I happened to worked for the Latino Baseball Network.

In other cities there is lots of disappointment. In Los Angeles, the Dodgers, whose manager, Dave Roberts predicted a 2022 World Series win during an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show, when he said “We will win the World Series in 2022. We will win the World Series this year.”

The Dodgers have pitching problems, ace Walker Buehler recently went into the IL, Julio Urias is not going to win 20 games again this season (he was the only to win 20 last season) plus mixed with an inconsistent offense, the Dodgers have stuff to “figure out”, they do have the talent.

The San Diego Padres, at this time, even with the delayed return of superstar Fernando Tatis Jr, looks like the team that could win this division. Bob Melvin is doing a great job, which is nothing new for the three-time Manager of the Year.

The San Francisco Giants, while they are not going to win 107 games again, they find a way to win series, starter Jacob Junis went into the IL, veterans like Evan Longoria and Brandon Belt, can’t seem to stay healthy.

Giants lost some pieces in the off-season, perhaps the biggest one, starter Kevin Gausman who had his best year ever in 2021 with a 14-6 record, and 2.81 ERA, he left for a very lucrative contract in Toronto. Nobody expected the Giants to have a similar season as 2021, which was a dream season, when every player at the same time, had great years.

Trades: The new deadline this year is set for August 2. There will be many trades, some earlier than others, but the greatest commodities are starting pitchers. they are in high demand. Many of the teams with hopes of postseason play will reinforce themselves. In today’s game the old saying “you never have enough pitching” is new again.

#1 MLB suspended New York Yankees Josh Donaldson one game for making a Jackie Robinson reference to Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson on Saturday. Donaldson after the game in New York made the Jackie Robinson reference and said he meant no disrespect but White Sox pitching coach Ethan Katz was surprised that he only got one day.

#2 The Jackie Robinson reference was an undertone a dog whistle to Anderson who is black and Donaldson is white player. Donaldson said that he was joking around in the past with Anderson about the Robinson reference when Anderson said he feels like today’s Jackie Robinson.

#3 Amaury, Sunday the St Louis Cardinals pitcher Yadier Molina who pitched in relief giving up two home runs and four runs after the Cardinals swept the Pittsburgh Pirates in four games at PNC Park. The Cardinals have placed Molina on the bereavement list the reason for the bereavement was not disclosed.

#4 The San Francisco Giants are coming off losing a three game sweep against the San Diego Padres at Oracle Park. The Giants also lost first baseman Brandon Belt to the 10 day IL for an inflamed right knee. Giants manager Gabe Kapler said the team is still in good shape.

#5 The Oakland A’s have lost seven of their last ten games and have lost two of three to the Los Angeles Angels over the weekend including Sunday’s 4-1 loss. A’s pitcher Cole Irvin lost the contest and the A’s are not getting any run support.

#1 Texas Rangers manager Chris Woodward called Yankee Stadium a Little League Park after Sunday’s front end of a doubleheader when the Yankees Gleyber Torres hit a walk off home run. Woodward got an avalanche of heat for calling one of baseball’s cathederals a Little League Park.

#2 How much was it based on frustration for Woodward on losing to the Yankees on Sunday as Yankee Stadium does have a short porch. You could be assured Woodward heard it from Yankee fans on Monday.

#3 Scary moment as home plate umpire Ron Kulpa was hit in the mask by Chicago White Sox third baseman Jake Burger by a foul ball on Sunday against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. Burger was checked by trainers after falling at the plate walked off the field under his own power and was replaced by Marty Foster.

#4 New York Mets coach Eric Chavez said that balls are being juiced to get out more there is no secret that all big league clubs are using humidors but on Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN prime time games Chavez said that he first didn’t believe it when players came to him about it but watched and said the ball was traveling further on the eye test but it also lined up with what the analytics were telling them.

#5 Amaury the last three games in Minnesota against the Minnesota Twins the Oakland A’s lost by some low scoring games but they can’t seem to break out the bats and get the run production that manager Mark Kotsay would hope. Luckily the Detroit Tigers are a struggling bunch and the A’s got a couple runs to get by them on Monday night to end their nine game losing streak at Comerica Park 2-0.

The Oakland A’s (5-5) surprised a lot of the oddsmakers after they were predicted to pretty much have a rough start not to mention a very unexpected opening of the season to open a ten game road trip.

The A’s who lost two out of three to the Philadelphia Phillies but won that last and final third game and got inspiration and won three out of four in Tampa Bay including a 13-2 landslide on Mon Apr 11th at Tropicana Field.

Then the A’s who lost two out of three to the Toronto Blue Jays did pick up a win on Thu Apr 14th winning a two run ball game 7-5. The A’s on trip got some run production from catcher Sean Murphy and some closing help from Lou Trivino. The A’s went 5-5 which was unexpected on the trip.

On the Covid list: On that last A’s road trip the A’s might have got away with a lot with a relatively unexpected successful road trip going 5-5 but for the A’s home opener the A’s have seven players out with Covid 19 protocol issues, outfielder Stephen Piscotty, catcher Austin Allen, infielders Jed Lowrie, Chad Pinder, pitchers AJ Puk, Lou Trivino and Kirby Snead. Called up infielders Nick Allen and Christian Lopes, and pitcher Sam Selman. The A’s who opened up their season in Philadelphia on Fri Apr 8th came at a time when the city of Philadelphia is having a relatively large BA 2 Variant outbreak and has mandated mask wearing and social distancing.

The Baltimore Orioles are 3-6 but had won two of their last three games against the New York Yankees at Camden Yards. This could be a lot closer of a series than the oddsmakers are predicting.
