#1 The Pittsburgh Penguins’ Phil Kessel scored his 24th goal of the season. Brian DuMoulin, Patric Hornqvist, Nick Bjugstad (11), Jake Guentzel (36), all scored in the Pens’ win over the Buffalo Sabres 5-0.

#2 The New York Islanders got a 2-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens as the Isles’ Adam Pelech (5) and Anders Lee (25) scored for New York.

#3 The Washington Capitals’ Brett Connolly scored two goals–#18 and #19–to help lead the Caps in a 5-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

#4 The Ottawa Senators got a 2-0 win over the St. Louis Blues. The Sens got goals from Christian Wolanin (4) and Chris Tierney (9). Jake Allen started in goal for the shutout for Senators.

#5 The red-hot Tampa Bay Lighting (54-13-4) defeated the Detroit Red Wings 5-3. The Bolts’ Nikita Kucherov scored twice for #34 and #35 of the season.

#1 The Boston Bruins just got by the Florida Panthers 4-3. Patrice Bergeron scored twice including the gamer for the Bruins.

#2 The Pittsburgh Penguins got a 3-0 shutout over the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Pens’ Sidney Crosby scored a goal and Pens goaltender Matt Murray stopped all 25 shots.

#3 Chicago Blackhawks get a big win Thursday night in overtime 5-4 over the Buffalo Sabres. The Hawks’ Artem Anisimov scored twice and goaltender Corey Crawford stopped 35 of 39 shots.

#4 The New York Islanders’ Valtteri Filppula scored twice 4-2 as the Islanders defeated the Ottawa Senators.

#5 The Detroit Red Wings top the New York Rangers and that ended a eight-game loss streak for the Red Wings. Red Wings won in a shootout 3-2.

NHL podcast with Joe Lami: Will Flames and Sharks grind it out for first in the Pacific until season’s end?

#1 How serious is this Calgary Flames team (37-16-7) ever since that loss to the San Jose Sharks back on Feb. 7th as they’ve been a team on fire?

#2 The Flames first in the Pacific got goal help on Wednesday night when Austin Czarnik and Johnny Gaudreau scored 29 seconds apart talk about team work.

#3 The Flames won their third straight game in that 4-2 win over the New York Islanders (35-18-6). The Isles are no slouches either.

#4 The Islanders on Wednesday got goal help from Casey Cizikas and Anders Lee. These two have been key for New York this season.

#5 The Flames won’t face the Sharks for the rest of the regular season, but most likely will meet them in the playoffs. The last time the two teams met the Flames’ Sam Bennett rocked the Sharks’ Radim Simek. Would that translate that these two teams will rival each other right down to the postseason if and when they meet?

#1 The San Jose Sharks (32-16-11) have found their swing to the back of the nets with a great 5-2 win over the Calgary Flames (34-15-1). Sharks goals by Tomas Hertl (23 & 24), Evander Kane (22 & 23), and Brett Burns (11).

#2 The Carolina Hurricanes (27-21-6) got a narrow win over the Buffalo Sabres. The Hurricanes got three goals in the third period to hang on.

#3 The Florida Panthers got by the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2. The Panthers got an OT goal by Mike Matheson for his fifth game and fifth goal of the year.

#4 The New York Islanders (31-16-6) got goals in the first period and in OT to beat the New Jersey Devils (20-25-8).

#5 The LA Kings got a one-goal win, scoring goals in each of the first and second periods, respectively. For the Kings, Austin (5) and Adrian Kempe (9) in the 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

#1 The Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy and the New York Islanders Thomas Greiss were top stars as both teams played to a 0-0 regulation battle and forced a shootout when Victor Hedman scored the game winner for Tampa Bay.

#2 The Washington Capitals tipped the Calgary Flames 4-3 Evgeny Kuznetsov got the go ahead goal with 57 seconds left and the Caps snapped their seven game losing streak.

#3 Carolina rolled over the Vegas Golden Knights 5-2. Jordan Martinook got the go ahead goal for the Hurricanes. It was Martinook’s first go ahead goal since signing an extension with the Canes.

#4 Viktor Arvidsson scored twice for the Nashville Predators and the Preds scored all of their four goals in the third period to top the Florida Panthers 4-1.

#5 The Pittsburgh Penguins Bryan Rust and Jake Guentzel each had two goals in their victory over the Ottawa Senators on Friday night 5-3. The Penguins Teddy Blueger pick up his first NHL goal and the Pens goaltender Casey DeSmith saved 37 shots.

#1 Josh Bailey and Cal Clutterbuck of the New York Islanders each scored in the third period of Friday night’s game and Isles goaltender Thomas Greiss stopped 19 shots against the Washington Capitals for a 2-0 win.

#2 The Calgary Flames’ Sam Bennett couldn’t be contained, scoring two goals as well as the go-ahead goal as the Flames took a two-goal win past the Detroit Red Wings 6-4 on Friday.

#3 Phil Kessel got a power play goal at 4:09 in overtime as the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Arizona Coyotes 3-2. The Pens won it on a 4-3 power play after slashing was called on the Coyotes’ Richard Panik.

#4 Brock Boeser of the Vancouver Canucks got a goal and an assist and Canucks goalie Thatcher Demko stopped 36 shots, beating the visiting Buffalo Sabers at Rogers Center in Vancouver.

#5 The Ottawa Senators’ Bobby Ryan and Mark Stone didn’t waste anytime in the second period, scoring 13 seconds apart to win their fourth straight game, defeating the Carolina Hurricanes in Ottawa 4-1.

#3 The New York Rangers (20-20-7) over the Chicago Blackhawks (16-24-9) 4-3. The Rangers got goals from Filip Chitil (8), Mats Zucarello (8), Chris Kreider (22), and Mika Zibanejad (15).

#4 The Toronto Maple Leafs (29-15-2) got a two-goal win over the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2. Goals by the Leafs Nazem Kadri (10), Patrick Marleau (11), Mitchell Marner (19), and Zach Hyman (8).

#2 San Jose Sharks got two goals in 39 seconds after Sharks were down 2-1 in the third period. Brett Burns and Joonas Donskoi scored the two goals.

#3 The Nashville Predators’ Artemi Panarin scored two goals and an overtime goal to help Nashville beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3.

#4 The Tampa Lightning’s Brayden Point scored the game-winning goal with 3:15 left in the and got an empty-netter to help Tampa Bay with a 3-1 win.

#1 The San Jose Sharks open a three-game road trip against the Edmonton Oilers starting today. The Oilers have lost four straight and the Sharks have lost four of their last five games. Matt sets up this game for us.

#2 The Toronto Maple Leafs John Tavares helped get the Leafs a 4-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night. It was Tavares who was the difference maker, scoring two goals to get the Leafs over the hump.

#3 The Montreal Canadiens turned it up a notch with two goals from Tomas Tatar, Tatar’s second goal was the go-ahead goal in the Habs’ 5-3 win over the Florida Panthers.

#4 The New York Islanders’ Mathew Barzal had a big night in the Isles’ 6-3 win over the Ottawa Senators. Barzal scored twice and had an assist as the Islanders get a win on home ice at Barclays Center.

#5 The NHL has selected some of the All-Star players. Matt tells us who he likes as the game will be played on Saturday, Jan. 26th in San Jose
