Warriors win a thriller beat Kings 116-113 snap five-game losing streak

The Golden State Warriors (4-7) returned home after losing five games in a row on the road trip. Their opponent Monday night was the revamped Sacramento Kings (3-6). The Kings beat Charlotte and Orlando on their road trip but lost to the Miami Heat when the referees missed a traveling violation.

Kings’ head coach, Mike Brown, has his team playing much better this season. The Kings gave the Warriors a tussle Monday before losing 116-113. Fans at the Chase Center saw Warrior guard Stephen Curry do his magic as he led his team to the win. He carried the team in the first half. Curry was at his best when things looked bleak in the fourth quarter. Curry played 37 minutes and tallied 47 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, and knocked down seven threes. It was a most impressive performance.

The Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was concerned about the Warriors failure to play defense on the road. The team had allowed over 122 points a game while losing five in a row. Kerr was trying to determine who would be in his second unit. Kerr made some changes, and his team responded with a win. 

The Warriors starting five got a good start in the first quarter. They led 27-15 about halfway through the period. Kerr made his first substitutions of the night, sending in Jordan Poole and Anthony Lamb. Jonathan Kuminga entered a few moments later. The Kings caught fire at this point. Sacramento went on a 16-2 run to finish the quarter with a two-point lead, 31-29.

Sacramento, led by Domantis Sabonis, De’Aaron Fox, and Malik Monk, extended their lead to eight, 48-40. Curry made a three and a two-pointer to close the gap to 50-45. The Warriors trailed by four when Sacramento went on a 10-4 run to end the first half with a 12-point advantage, 67-55.

De’Aaron Fox paced the Kings’ offense with 18 points. Sabonis had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Malik Monk added 17. The Kings connected on ten three-point shots. The Warriors made five. Sacramento made 19 free throws in the first half. Curry had 22 points to lead the team. Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, and Draymond Green each scored eight. 

If the Warriors hoped to win the game, they knew they had to dominate the third quarter as they have done so many times. 

The Warriors came out firing on all cylinders. They went on a 13-2 run to make it a 69-68 game. Wiggins and Thompson each made a three in the run. The Kings regrouped and fought back. Every time the Warriors closed the gap, the Kings answered with a bucket. The Warriors won the quarter by three points and trailed by nine, 88-79. 

The Warriors had to find a way to win the game. They had to stop the Kings’ offense and find a way to get someone other than Curry to make plays. Andrew Wiggins stepped up his game in the fourth quarter. Wiggins connected on a three to make it 88-82.

The Kings scored the next four points. Wiggins scored a deuce to make it 92-84. Sacramento hit a three. Curry scored a bucket and was fouled. He made the free throw. Thompson connected on a three. The Warriors trailed by five 95-90. Sacramento refused to cave.

With the score 100-92, Wiggins made another bucker. Curry followed with a three. The Warriors trailed 100-97 with five minutes left in the game. There was still plenty of time left to pull out a win. Could the defense hold down the Kings’ offense? Could they stop Sabonis, Fox, and company? The Warriors answered in the affirmative. Warriors made a three to bring the Warriors to within three 102-99. Sacramento increased the lead to five 107-102. Wiggins made another three with 2:26 left.

The Warriors trailed 107-105. Curry took charge. Curry’s two-pointer tied the game at 107. He hit a three to give the Warriors their first lead since the first quarter when they led 29-28. The Kings fought back. They hit a bucket. Curry answered with another two-point play to make it 112-109. Sacramento scored. Green scored. The Kings came back 114-113 with 25 seconds left. Curry ended the scoring when he was fouled with 1.3 seconds left. He made both free throws to ice the win for Golden State.

Game Notes: The Warriors are now 4-7, and The Kings are 3-5. The Warriors meet the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Chase Center Friday night. They play the Kings again Sunday night at the Golden 1 center in Sacramento.

The story of the game was Curry. He was magnificent in leading his team to victory. He scored 47 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, and seven threes. Wiggins had a double-double with 25 points and ten rebounds. Wiggins connected on four threes. Thompson added 16 points. Thompson made three threes. Green had 11 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Poole scored just two points. 

The Warriors won the second half 61-46. The Kings made ten threes in the first half but only four in the second. The Warriors story was just the opposite. They made five threes in the first half and nine in the second. The Warriors shot 50% from the field and held the Kings to 40.7% 

The Kings had five players in double figures. Sabonis finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Fox had 28, Monk 24, Davion Mitchell 12, and Kevin Huerter 11.

Kerr said he was pleased with his team’s energy in the fourth quarter. Kerr knew the Warriors had to improve on defense as well. They did what they had to do to win and snap the five-game losing streak.

#1 Barbara, how depleted do the Golden State Warriors seem after resting their three key players Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson and taking a nine point 114-105 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night in Pelican town.

#2 The Pelicans Brandon Ingram lead the Pelicans with 26 points and contributed on offense keeping New Orleans in the drivers seat for most of the game.

#3 What was remarkable was Ingram had missed four games in a row due to a concussion and was glad for the timing of getting back in the line up to face the Warriors.

#4 The Warriors Jordan Poole led Golden State with 20 points and nine assists, Ty Jerome had 18 points, and Kevon Looney was the only regular starter that was in uniform.

#5 The Warriors return to the nest tonight at Chase Center and host the Sacramento Kings who are coming off two road wins against the Orlando Magic and Charlotte Hornets.

#1 The Sacramento Kings De’Aaron Fox hit a key overtime buzzer beater that won it 126-123 over the Orlando Magic in Orlando.

#2 The win was the Kings third win in their last four games and second win on this road trip.

#3 The sequence that we talked about the Kings were up 123-121 after Jalen Suggs hits two free throws, the Magic’s Chuma Okeke got a two point thrown down to make it 123-123 to tie it up. With no time left in front of the half court line Fox took a jumper and hit a overtime buzzer beater for the three point win 126-123.

#4 Not to mention Fox had a great offensive night running off 37 points and this is not only great for Fox being on the top of the leaderboard but he’s been a huge help in some of these road wins.

The Sacramento Kings won a thriller in overtime 126-123 as they rallied from an 18-point halftime deficit to beat the Orlando Magic 126-123. The Kings, under the watchful eye of head coach Mike Brown, have played an improved style of basketball. Sacramento beat the Charlotte Hornets and lost to the Miami Heat before playing Orlando Saturday night.

In the game against Miami, a blown call cost them the game. Miami’s Tyler Herro took four steps to make the winning bucket. Brown was screaming that Herro traveled. The call stood. However, after a review by the NBA, the review confirmed that Herro had traveled.

The Kings lost a game they should have won. The Orlando Magic entered the game on a high note. The Magic beat the defending NBA Champs, the Golden State Warriors, by one point, 130-129, Wednesday night. 

The Magic got off to a good start in the first period. They finished the quarter leading by eight, 33-25. They led early 20-6, but the Kings did close the gap. Orlando outscored the Kings by ten, 32-22, to finish the first half with an eighteen-point advantage.

Sacramento took a page out of the Warriors’ playbook as they owned the third quarter. They put 36 points on the board and held the Magic to 12. The score was 83-77 in favor of the Kings. Orlando fought back and was able to overcome the Kings’ six-point advantage. The game ended, tied 106-106. 

In the overtime period, the Kings’ De’Aaron Fox scored the first six points for his team. The Magic, led by rookie Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, refused to wilt. It was nip and tuck to the finish. Fox gave the Magic a chance to win when he threw away a pass in the backcourt with 6.6 seconds left. He atoned for his sin when he connected on a three-point shot from near mid-court to win the game for Sacramento.

Game Notes: With the win, the Kings are 3-5. The Magic dropped to 2-8.

The Kings had four players in double figures. Fox led the Kings with 37 points. Domantis Sabonis had a double-double with 25 points and eleven rebounds. He added six assists to his line. Trey Lyles and Malik Monk each added 15 points. 

The Magic had four starters in double figures. Paolo Banchero led the club with a double-double. The rookie tallied 33 points and 16 boards. Franz Wagner had 31, Wendell Carter, Jr., 17, and Bol Bol, the son of former Warrior Manute Bol, knocked down 23 and pulled down seven rebounds. The Magic bench contributed only 13 points.

The Kings return to California to face the Warriors Monday night at the Chase Center. Kings’ coach Mike Brown would love the beat his old team. Steve Kerr is hoping to find the right pieces to stop the five-game losing streak.

It’s Five Straight For Golden State Losing to Pelicans 114-105

Friday night the Golden State Warriors (3-7) finished up their road trip taking on the New Orleans Pelicans (5-3) in the “Big Easy” and wound up dropping their fifth straight game 114-105.

It has been a road trip that no-one saw coming. Golden State has not win a single road game this season and looked for a win tonight against a very tough Pelican team. New Orleans had some great starters which of course included Zion Wiliamson along with CJ McCollum, Brandon Ingram and Jonas Valanciiunas. With Williamson completely healthy for this game under the best of circumstances would be a challenge.

Tonight’s game featured a new look for the Warriors. Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green rested and watched the game from the bench. This was an absolute opportunity for the young guys to get on the floor and exercise their skills.

Game recap: The first quarter was a solid one for Golden State leading after the first 12 minutes 27-26. Ryan Rollins got his first three in the NBA in the quarter. Kevon Looney, Jordan Poole, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody and Anthony Lamb were the starters for the game.

In the second quarter the turnovers were starting to mount with seven in the early going. After trailing by 11 points Golden State climbed back into the game trailing by a single point 50-49 with under three minutes left in the half. The youngsters were giving the elite Pelicans a run for their money.

New Orleans made a push in the final minute of the second quarter leading 61-54 going into the locker room. Despite trailing it was an impressive showing by the kids. At the half Poole had 12 points, Kuminga had 11 and Lamb also had double digits with 10 points.

With 3:79 left in the third quarter the Warriors had tied up the game at 70. Golden State remained competitive throughout the quarter. A tough sequence in the final minute gave the Pelicans an 88-79 lead going into the final quarter. Brandon Ingram was having a great game with 25 points supported by Williamson and McCollum each with 14.

The Warriors hung in this game for three quarters and made a push in the fourth quarter trailing 93-89 with eight minutes left in the game. Golden State was just looking to keep this game close. The Pelicans put up a real push in the final minutes and finished off the Warriors in the final game of this road trip. The final was 114-105.

The kids had some great moments. They struggled with traveling and turnovers but this was a terrific opportunity to play for these guys. They played a scrappy game and no doubt learned an awful lot. Poole finished with 20 points, Ty Jerome and Kuminga had 18, Lamb with 16 and Moody 14 points. Not bad for a bunch that hasn’t played together. The Warriors will head home with a five game losing streak.

The Warriors will have some time off before they take on the Sacramento Kings at Chase Center Monday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

On the Kings podcast with Jeremiah:

#1 The Miami Heat were looking for a little payback Wednesday night after losing to the Kings last Saturday night in Sacramento 119-113 which they got with a 110-107 win over the Kings in Miami.

#2 The Kings played without their superstar De’Aaron Fox who is their offensive leader. There is good news in regards to the knee injury he suffered Monday night against the Hornets. The MRI that he underwent showed a bone bruise but no other structural damage. He missed Thursday’s game and there is no other update as to his return.

#3 It was a heart breaking loss for the Kings who fought so hard through the entire game. This game could not have been any closer. The absence of Fox really hurt but the Kings had a great game from Domantas Sabonis and Kevin Huerter both finishing with 22 points and Malik Monk had 19 points off the bench.

#4 Jeremiah, Kings head coach Mike Brown disputed a basket scored by the Heat’s guard Tyler Herro claiming he traveled with the ball. Herro’s basket turned out to be the winning bucket upon review the NBA did admit that Herro travelled and was never called for it.

#5 The Kings will try again as they face the Orlando Magic (2-7) to conclude this three game road trip on Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm PDT in Orlando. The Magic have lost two of their last three games.

Warriors Lose Fourth Game In a Row To The Magic 130-129

Thursday evening the Golden State Warriors (3-6) lost to the Orlando Magic (2-7) and were looking for their first road win of the season they didn’t get it dropping their fourth straight game in a row 130-129 in Orlando.

It has been an extremely difficult road trip for the team. Golden State who looked to defend without fouling up something that has just not happened in this stretch. Limiting the turnovers would also be beneficial. Quality road trips is the sign of a great team. The Warriors have not looked anything like a great team that they used to be on this road trip.

Thursday game recap: Klay Thompson got the first quarter going in a big way with three from downtown grabbing a 16-8 lead for the Warriors. The turnovers began to cause a lot of problem as the quarter wore on and the lead that Golden State had built began to evaporate. After the first 12 minutes the score was tied at 30.

By the end of the second quarter the Warriors had built a double digit lead 65-53. Golden State had a great quarter. They pushed that lead with good offense and good defensive. They forced turnovers and had second chance points, doing all of this with some Warrior-like hustle and scrappiness. The splash brothers had a great first half, both going four of eight from downtown while the Magic had trouble shooting from the paint. As it turned out this would be a tale of two halves.

In the third quarter Thompson picked up where he left off in the first half shooting a couple of three’s in the first two minutes of play. The Warriors had their largest lead of the game with 9:22 left in the quarter 75-60. The Magic fought but continued to trail by double digits. Orlando continue to pick away and with less than two minutes left the Warriors suffered a disasterous sequence. James Wiseman had a shooting foul, a technical giving Orlando the chance for a possible four points. Going into the fourth quarter the Warriors were hanging onto a 98-96 lead.

The Warriors had a terrible start to the fourth quarter committing three fouls inside of one minute. The Magic took the lead 108-104 with 8:20 left in the game. Orlando had been sixteen down and with the lead they were looking to win their second game of the season at the expense of the Warriors. The frustration began to boil over when Head Coach Steve Kerr was called for a technical. With 3:27 on the clock the Warriors had pulled to within one point 117-116. Kevon Looney and Draymond Green were both playing with five fouls.

This game was absolute torture tied at 126 with 43 seconds. The Magic took the lead 130-126 with 31 seconds left. Green had fouled out and it was a two score game. The Warriors pulled to within one point when Thompson hit a three. The Warriors ended the game with possession and 4.9 seconds but fell short losing 130-129 in a nightmare game.

Every team that has played the Warriors on this road trip has played to a new level. 31 more free throws for the Magic makes it pretty tough to win under any circumstances. The Magic hit clutch bucket after clutch bucket. So the Warriors have their fourth loss in a row.

Two turnovers by Golden State in the final minute and 31 Magic free throws shut this whole thing down. The third and fourth quarters were horrendous. Stephen Curry finished with 39 points, Thompson with 27, Looney with 17 and Andrew Wiggins with 15; surely good enough to win any game had it not been for those 31 free throws and turnovers. The Warriors made 19 three’s and shot at 51% and still lost.

It doesn’t get any better for the Warriors taking on the New Orleans Pelicans in the “Big Easy” tomorrow night. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 as the Warriors are looking to break a stunning losing streak.

#1 Jerry, there has been rumored talk that the Warriors (3-6) Draymond Green could bring suiters although the Warriors deny rumors about dealing Green.

#2 Green has been a commodity ever since he punched teammate Jordan Poole in a practice in early October. NBA teams still have approached the Warriors. Knowing this the Warriors just very well might hang onto Green as long as he can help the team and not get the itch to punch anyone else.

#3 Green’s contract ends at the end of this season but as long as his long time championship teammates Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson on the team Green may just try and reup with Golden State.

#4 The NBA is pushing the carry rule. The Warriors were whistled for three carry violations in their last game against the Detroit Pistons. Warrior head coach Steve Kerr being well aware that the league is serious about such violations has let his players know to dribble not carry the ball.

#5 Jerry, the Warriors complete their five game road trip Friday night in New Orleans against the Pelicans the Warriors are trying to pick up some wins after losing four straight to start the road trip how do you see this game in New Orleans for a 5:30 pm tip.

Kings Lose Heart Breaker To the Heat In Final Seconds 110-107

Wednesday night the Sacramento Kings (2-5) took on the Miami Heat (4-5). Both teams are coming off a win in their last game. The Kings handled the Hornets 115-108 and the Heat pulled off a stunner beating the Golden State Warriors 116-109. The Heat were looking for a little payback after losing to the Kings last Saturday night in Sacramento 119-113 which they got with a 110-107 win over the Kings in Miami.

The Kings played without their superstar De’Aaron Fox who is their offensive leader. There is good news in regards to the knee injury he suffered Monday night against the Hornets. This game was as close as a game could be. The Heat had a slim 33-32 lead after the first 12 minutes. The second quarter was another one point thriller with the Heat winning it 20-19. Miami led at the half 53-51.

This set the tone for the remainder of the game with both teams battling. The Kings won the third quarter in another one point differential 25-24. It became apparent that this game would go down to the wire.

These two teams were tied at 107 with 12.5 seconds left in regulation. With 1.8 seconds left in the game, Tyler Herro lived up to his name sinking a 27-foot shot and that was the game-winner 110-107.

It was a heart breaking loss for the Kings who fought so hard through the entire game. This game could not have been any closer. The absence of Fox really hurt but the Kings had a great game from Domantas Sabonis and Kevin Huerter both finishing with 22 points and Malik Monk had 19 points off the bench.

The Heat were missing Jimmy Butler with a hip injury. Tyler Herro had the high score for the Heat with 26 points.

Despite the loss, the Kings had a great game just coming up short. Even more discouraging was the fact that Coach Mike Brown saw Herro travel on that last play. All signs point to De’Aaron Fox’s return very soon which is great news for the Kings.

Next up for Sacramento will be the Orlando Magic on Saturday at Amway Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 PM.

Miami Hands Warriors Third Loss In a Row 116-109

Tuesday evening the Golden State Warriors (3-4) took on the Miami Heat (2-5) looking to avoid a third loss in a row. Golden State needed to pay close attention to their defense in transition and also keeping the fouls to a minimum. The Heat were looking for a little payback after losing to the Warriors last Thursday 123-110 and they got it with a 116-109 win over the Warriors Tuesday.

Tuesday game recap: The first quarter showed some great defense on both sides. With three minutes left in the quarter, the Warriors had taken a slim lead 21-17 but had missed out on some great offensive opportunities. That lead disappeared and the Heat opened up a 25-21 advantage. As the clock ran out in the opening quarter the Heat conducted a nice run and closed out the first 12 minutes leading 33-24. It was a 20 to 3 run for the Heat building a nine point lead.

The Warriors continued to chip away at the Miami lead. Golden State won the second quarter 32-25 and at the half the Heat held a slim lead 58-56. After struggling on this road trip, Andrew Wiggins had a great first half with 14 points. The Warriors continued to struggle with turnovers committing ten in the first half.

Klay Thompson who did not play Sunday but on Tuesday had a productive third quarter as did Wiggins. The Warriors defense led the offense in this game and Golden State saw flashes of that championship team, that great execution the Warriors are so used to seeing but the Warriors continued to send Miami to the line giving up too many points. Heading into the fourth quarter the Warriors had built an eight point lead 94-86. The bench, Jamychal Green, Jordan Poole, James Wiseman and Moses Moody finished the final three minutes of the third.

The start of the fourth quarter was a good one for Kyle Lowry hitting a couple of three’s challenging Golden State. The Heat had 22 points off of Warrior turnovers making this game a tight one 100-97 with 8:22 left in the game. Miami went on a ten point run and took the lead 102-100 with just over six minutes left on the clock. With 5:25 left the score was tied at 104. The Heat were making some crazy shots from downtown in the fourth quarter. It went down to three minutes of crunch time in this game with the Heat leading 112-109.

The final blow for the Warriors was a lengthy review that was decided in favor of the Heat instead of three shots from the line for Warrior guard Stephen Curry. Those three shots could very well have tied up this game. With 9.5 left on the clock Jimmy Butler extended the Miami lead 114-109 and the Warriors had dropped their third game in a row.

The Warriors outshot the Heat, they made more three’s than the Heat but it was the turnovers that once again was the problem. The Warriors have not won a road game this season. Golden State simply ran into a buzzsaw with the Miami Heat. The Warriors could not close out this game, unable to buy a bucket in the final minutes of the fourth quarter

Curry finished with 23 points, Wiggins with 21 and Thompson with 19. Curry had a great game with 13 rebounds but they came up short once again. So far this season Curry has been a constant, the team looking better tonight. They absolutely got some tough breaks in this game.
