Golden State Annihilates Pelicans 126-85

Golden State (7-1) blasted the New Orleans Pelicans (1-9) in a runaway 126-85. Jordan Poole had another high for the game with 26 points and Andre Iguodala had a record high 10 assists.

Friday night the Golden State Warriors (7-1) took on the New Orlean Pelicans (1-9). This would prove to be an interesting match-up. The Warrior offense would be tested by the impenetrable Jonas Valanciunas, however New Orleans will be dealing with injuries that will hurt the team with Brandon Ingram out due to a right hip contusion and of course Zion Williamson’s return is still murky. Coming into this game the Pelicans have lost five in a row.

Golden State will be heavily counting on Kevon Looney, Otto Porter Jr., and Nemanja Bjelica, the Warriors who can almost match 6’11” Valaciunas in height. The Warriors are highly favored in this matchup.

The Pelicans got a quick start in the first quarter leading early but Golden State got their offense going and erased that lead to even the score 16-16 mid-way through the quarter. Golden State had a 38-31 lead after one quarter.

The Warriors had a nice start to the second quarter. They were having alot of success dropping three’s and already were 9 of 19 in early play. The only true weapon that the Pelicans had in this game was Valaciunas.

Although leading by fifteen points in the second quarter, Golden State went cold and led by a slim margin at the half 54-50. Missing three 3’s in a row is something that we seldom see from Golden State, but we saw it in the second quarter. The Warriors will need a lot more successful offensive effort in the second half.

The Warriors got that effort and extended their lead in the third quarter leading 88-66.

Golden State really went to town in the final quarter rendering the Pelicans helpless. New Orleans was unable to get anything going offensively or defensively. A four point lead for the Warriors at the half turned into a 126-85 final.

Poole, Curry, Wiggins, Payton and Bjelica all shot in double digits and Green led in rebounds with 8. This team was on fire and fans at Chase tonight got a real show.

The Warriors will be back on the court Sunday taking on the Rockets. Two teams with opposite records – the Warriors with a 7-1 record and the Rockets with a 1-7 record. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 PM.

SACRAMENTO–The Sacramento Kings were back in action on Friday night. The Kings had the day off on Thursday after taking on the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night. The Kings entered action on Friday with a record of 4-4 and what seemed to be some early season momentum. The Kings opened up on the Hornets with a 30 point win 140-110 at Golden One Center in Sacramento.

The Hornets entered play on Friday with a 5-4 record looking to improve on their solid start to the season. The Kings and Hornets would play in Sacramento at 7 PM PST. Before we dive into Friday night’s action let’s take a look at the Kings last game.

Flashback Wednesday: The Kings took on the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night and beat them handily. The Kings matched their play most of the game and took over in the final quarter. The Kings ended up winning the game 112-99.

Friday tip off: The Kings were set to take on the Charlotte Hornets at 7 PM PST in Sacramento.

The first quarter was a tremendous outburst from the Kings. The first quarter saw everything the Kings had to offer this year. The defense was spectacular, and the offense was on fire. The Kings hit 9 three’s in the first quarter alone to set the tone for the offense. The Kings in the first quarter managed to outscore the Hornets 41-22.

In the second quarter, the Kings took a step back. The Kings defense allowed the Hornets to score 31 points to try and mount a comeback. Fortunately for the Kings, the shots continued to fall for the purple and black. The Kings outscored the Hornets by scoring 33 points in the second quarter to take a 74-53 lead into halftime. The Kings Richuan Holmes and Buddy Hield had double figures in the first half with 12 points each. The Kings looked to lock the game down in the second half.

In the third quarter, the Kings defense melted down. Part of that meltdown was in part because Gordon Hayward torched the Kings in the third. Hayward managed to score 12 points and was the biggest part of keeping the Hornets in the game. However, the Kings did still continue to light it up on offense adding scoring 33 albeit as the Hornets scored 36. The Kings would need to tighten up on the defensive end of the floor to come out with a victory. The Kings led heading into the final quarter 106-89.

In the final segment, the Kings managed to finish the Hornets off in victory. The Kings outscored the Hornets 34-21 as the Kings had all the momentum down the stretch in the 140-110 victory. At points throughout the fourth quarter, you could hear the Joy from Kings fans as they chanted in the blowout victory.

The chants were “Buddy Buckets” and “We want Bagley” among others. This was by far the best Kings team blowout in recent memory. The Kings were led in victory by Buddy Hield with 26 followed by Richuan Holmes with 23 points. The Hornets were led by LaMello Ball who scored 24 points.

#1 Jeremiah, tell us about Tyrese Haliburton who went on a seven point run late in the fourth quarter to help the Sacramento Kings (4-4) pick up a 112-99 win over the visiting New Orleans Pelicans (1-8) at Golden One Center in Sacramento.

#2 The Pelicans had won only one game going into Wednesday night’s game and were an easy target for the Kings and an easier target for NBA Network’s Charles Barkley who said Zion Williamson has put on some weight which might be the team anchor.

#3 What made it even better for the Kings Williamson was not in the New Orleans line up but that said the Kings still needed all of the 20 points they scored in the fourth quarter.

#4 Jeremiah, tell us about Harrison Barnes whose been on the top of the leaderboard and Wednesday night was no exception scoring 23 points.

#5 The Kings host the Charlotte Hornets (5-4) tonight at Golden One. The Hornets are coming off a two game losing streak first losing to the Cleveland (4-4) at home on Monday 113-110 and to Golden State (6-1) in San Francisco 114-92 on Wednesday night. Kings pour it on the Pelicans 112-99 at Golden One

The Sacramento Kings were back in action on Wednesday night in the second night of a back-to-back as they started a four-game homestand. The Kings were welcoming in the New Orleans Pelicans who were without young and often injured star Zion Williamson.

The two teams were off to very different starts to the season. The Kings had played good basketball to start the year and have been showing promise with a record of 3-4 on the year. The Kings Harrison Barnes led the way with 23 points in the 112-99 victory at Golden One Center in Sacramento on Wednesday night.

On the other hand, the Pelicans had started the year 1-6 reeling in the Western Conference and looking for anything to turn into momentum. The Kings and the Pelicans were set to play at 7 PM PST in Sacramento. However, before we dive into Wednesday’s action let’s look at how the Kings faired in their last game.

Flashback Tuesday: The Kings took on the Utah Jazz on Tuesday in the first game of a back-to-back. The Kings were wrapping up a road trip that saw them win and lose. It was a solid trip but the Kings were looking to return home. On Tuesday, the Kings put up a solid fight but ultimately came up short.

The Jazz managed to put the Kings away in a 119-113 win. It wasn’t a bad loss for the Kings but Luke Walton after the game stressed the importance of learning from mistakes and not letting it snowball.

Wednesday recap: The Kings were set for tip-off in Sacramento at 7 PM PST.

In the first quarter, the game was fairly even. Neither team got off to a particularly hot start. The Kings managed to narrowly outscore the Pelicans 27-26 in the first quarter. Both teams seemed to not be able to get into a rhythm on either side of the ball.

In the second quarter, the Kings were able to improve their performance overall. The Kings were able to hold the Pelicans to the exact same total they amassed in the first quarter which was 26. On the offensive side of the ball, the Kings managed to score 29 points to increase their lead to 56-52 going into halftime.

Richaun Holmes led the Kings in the first half with 12 points. However, Holmes would be ejected in the game after receiving a technical foul for arguing. The Kings would look to build on the lead and close out a struggling Pelicans team in the second half.

In the third quarter, both defenses fell asleep. The Kings were still able to outscore the Pelicans in the third, but the defense was nowhere to be found. The Pelicans scored 35 points compared to the Kings 36. The teams were running in the open court and knocking down their shots in the fast-paced third quarter. The Kings took the 92-87 three-quarter lead into the final 12 minutes.

In the fourth quarter, the Kings finished off the Pelicans. The Kings dominated the flow of the game in the fourth. The Kings managed to outscore the Pelicans 20-12 as the Kings defense put the clamps on the Pelicans offense. It has the feeling of a blowout in the final minutes as the Kings dribbled out the clock to end the game.

It was a great win for the Kings on the second night of a back-to-back to even their record at 4-4. The Kings were led in victory by an impressive Harrison Barnes who scored 23 points. Tyrese Haliburton added 20 points behind Barnes in the win for the win. The Pelicans greatest contribution came from Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Devonte Graham who each scored 16 points. The Pelicans fell to 1-7 on the season.

Up Next: The Kings get a much-needed day off on Thursday before taking on the Charlotte Hornets on Friday at 7 PM PST in Sacramento.

Warriors defense stop Hornets 114-92; Poole finishes on top with 31 points

An amazing defensive display gets Golden State past the Charlotte Hornets 114-92 Jordan Poole finishes with 31 points for the win.

Wednesday night the Golden State Warriors (6-1) took on the Charlotte Hornets (5-4). This is probably the toughest team that Golden State has faced so far this season. The trio of Miles Bridges, Gordon Hayward and LeMelo Ball will test the Warriors defense. The Hornets are number one in the league on scoring off turnovers so it is crucial that the Warriors keep turnovers to a minimum.

The Warriors came out really flat in the first quarter shooting nine of 19 and struggling with turnovers yet again with seven already in this game. The score after the opening quarter was 26-21 in favor of the Hornets. Charlotte’s Hayward, Bridges and Ball lived up to their reputation with 21 points in the quarter. Jordan Poole had a great start in this game scoring ten points, two of them from downtown.

Despite sluggish play by Steph Curry with five points, Draymond Green with three and Wiggins coming up empty the Warriors led 53-52 at the half. Golden State was in this game thanks to the reserves and Jordan Poole who had 22 points. He was 6-9 from downtown turning in a great first half.

The Hornets Miles Bridges had 21 points at the half and would be tough to stop in the second half. Golden State already had 10 turnovers in the first half and they could not continue on that path.

The Warriors defense continued to hold the highest scoring team in the league to 43 percent. Mid-way through the third quarter the Warriors held a 70-63 lead. The tale of this quarter was the Golden State defense. The Hornets could hardly buy a basket in the quarter and constantly turned the ball over accumulating eight. The Warriors led after three 80-67.

The Warriors would have to hold tight in the fourth quarter against Charlotte known for being a second half team. The Hornets started to turn things around and fought back from 15 points down to within seven. With three minutes left in the game the offense and defense really stepped up. Jordan Poole would finish with 31 points. Daniel Lee had 15 points and Gary Payton II with 14. This win came courtesy of the reserves and another amazing defensive display.

Despite 32 points Bridges could not get his team past Golden State. The two benches were a stark contrast. Golden State had 42 points while Charlotte had 11.

Friday night the Warriors will take on the New Orleans Pelicans going for their seventh win. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

#1 Barbara, Golden State Warriors (5-1) continue to roll winning their fifth game against one loss with their most recent win against the Oklahoma City Thunder (1-5) 103-82 on Saturday night. This season has been a big difference compared to last season so far.

#2 Barbara, talk about Stephen Curry’s performance getting 20 points in just 27 minutes which also gave some rest for Draymond Green who came off the bench and scored 14.

#3 The Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was held to just 15 points and the Thunder as a team was held to 35.8% shooting by the Warrior defense.

#4 Not only Green’s contribution with 11 rebounds was big the Warriors Andrew Wiggins scored 14 and it really help bury the Thunder under with a 21 point difference.

Kings hit .500 mark lose to Mavs 105-99; Third loss of the season

The Sacramento Kings were back in action on Sunday afternoon in Dallas Texas. The Kings last played on Friday night against the Pelicans. Tip off for Sunday was set at 12:30 PM PST in Dallas against the Mavericks. However, before we dive into Sunday’s game let’s take a look back at Friday’s matchup.

Flashback Friday:

On Friday the Kings took on the the New Orleans Pelicans on the road. The Kings came into the game 2-2 and were looking to beat a team that was lacking the services of Zion Williamson. The Kings played a good overall game coming out on top 113-109. The Kings defense was inconsistent throughout the game but they managed to win the game.

Sunday Recap:

In the first half of Sundays game the first quarter specifically, it was rough for the Kings. The start of the game in the first quarter was a disaster for the Kings. The Kings got into an early 15 point deficit with 7:40 to play in the first. The Kings didn’t seem to come out with the intensity they needed to in the first quarter. The Mavericks outscored the Kings 31-22 in the first quarter,

In the second quarter, the Kings played much better. The Kings defense upped the pressure holding the Mavericks to only 22 points as the Kings offense put up 25 points. The Kings would still have to make up some ground in the second half down 53-47 at halftime.

In the third, the Kings played a solid quarter for the majority of the time. However, the last two minutes of the quarter the Kings completely melted down. The Kings had cut the Mavericks lead to three points until the Mavericks were able to go in a run to go up 10 points going into the final quarter. The Kings would be down 82-72 heading into the the fourth.

In the fourth quarter, it wasn’t the Kings day for a comeback. The Kings poor shooting continued and De’Aaron Fox wasn’t able to take over on offense as the Kings struggled to mount a comeback. The Kings did outscore and he Mavericks 27-23 in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit as the Kings lost 105-99.

The Kings didn’t have it on the offensive end of the floor on Sunday but did play well on defense overall. Leading the way for the victorious Mavericks was Luka Doncic who scored 23 points. The Kings were led in defeat by Richaun Holmes who had 22 points.

Up Next: The Kings will take on the Utah Jazz in Utah on Tuesday at 6PM PST.

Golden State Handles OKC With Ease 103-82

Draymond Green set the tempo early finishing with a triple double in their match up with the OKC Thunder (1-5). His energy was contagious offensively and defensively as he led Golden State (5-1) to a 103-82 win.

Saturday night the Warriors welcomed the Oklahoma City Thunder to Chase Center in game two of their eight game home stand. This is the second time in the last three games that they have seen this team. In their last meeting the Warriors came out on top 106-98 but had to come from behind after trailing at the half 59-48.

The Warriors had to perform defensively and that is just what they did in the first quarter of this game. They led 28-20 at the end of the opening quarter. Green was brilliant offensively as well as defensively.

At halftime the Warriors led 55-44 and we saw the tables turned with OKC trailing by eleven in this game. This was the Green show from the start of this game to the half. He scored fourteen points in the first two quarters. There were only six turnovers in the first half which was also something that needed to be cleaned up.

In the second half Golden State needed to continue the great defense that they had in the first half, contain those turnovers and continue the great ball movement that they show-cased in the first two quarters. These would be the keys in the second half of the game.

The Warriors played with a lot of grit to start this game and that’s what they needed to finish it. Stephen Curry only had five points in the half but with not only Green but Andrew Wiggins (11 pts) as well the team was managing beautifully. That’s what this roster does; they pick up where the others leave off.

Curry opened the third quarter with three threes and the Warriors had extended their lead to 20 (66-46). At 7:05 the three’s were falling for Golden State as they already had 14 in the first three quarters. Of those 14, six were shot by Steph Curry who was 6-12. With three quarters in the books the Warriors led 82-58.

With every quarter the Warriors had extended their lead and going into the fourth quarter seven guys had shot threes for Golden State. This was a beautifully executed game both offensively and defensively.

At 6:04 in the fourth quarter Jonathan Kuminga checked in to make his NBA debut. The 6’7” rookie would be looking for the first basket of his career. With two minutes left in the game Kuminga had his first basket and it was a three. The entire Golden State bench jumped up to celebrate this milestone. The starters got the fourth quarter off and let the bench take this one home 103-82.

This game was a far cry from what we saw in the last meeting with OKC. The Warriors controlled this game from start to finish with brilliant execution. In this game the Warriors hit 21 shots from downtown which accounted for 63 points. Ten different players had threes in the game which really highlights the strength of this roster.

Curry had the high score with 20 points in three quarters. Five players had double digits and the bench was solid as we have seen so often. After the last game which was a disappointment the Warriors really pulled out all the stops in this one. The win tonight puts the Warriors into first place in the Western Conference.

The Warriors (5-1) will be off until Wednesday when they will take on the Charlotte Hornets (4-2). Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

On the Kings podcast with Jeremiah:

#1 Jeremiah it was a big night for the Sacramento Kings (2-2) getting a victory over the Phoenix Suns (1-3) on Wednesday night 110-107 the Suns are no easy customer and winning in Phoenix is no easy task either.

#2 The Kings got a buzzer beater from Harrison Barnes who hit a three pointer for the three point victory for Barnes whose been in the league for sometime it had to be something special to get a win like that for Sacramento.

#3 Barnes also had a great night finishing second in scoring with 22 points with Buddy Hield finishing first with 26 points the Kings have been getting some great offense and have been involved in some close games.

#4 The Kings couldn’t stop the Suns Devon Booker who topped all scorers on Wednesday night with 31 points but the Kings were able to weather the Suns and were able to stay close and pull it off in the end.

#5 The Kings are in New Orleans tonight against the Pelicans (1-4). The Pelicans fell on hard luck in their last game against a very physical and great offensive Atlanta Hawks (3-1) team losing 102-99 in New Orleans. Jeremiah set the stage for this one as the Kings open a three game road trip starting tonight in New Orleans.

Memphis Hands Golden State First Loss 104-101

Memphis Hands Golden State First Loss 104-101

The Golden State Warriors (4-1) came into tonight’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies (3-2) with a perfect 4-0 record. They had to fight tooth and nail to win their last game against the young OKC squad who gave them quite a fight. Golden State made alot of errors and the Thunder wasted no time taking advantage of those mistakes.

Against the Grizzlies, the Warriors will have to have a much better start than they did in their last outing and clean up those turnovers. After the scare last Tuesday it’s a good bet that we will see a different start tonight against Memphis. Also the Warriors are sixth in the league in rebounding and so that is another facet that they will be depending on.

The Grizzlies have weapons of their own with Ja Morant who is relentless in attacking the basket. They also have Desmond Bane who has averaged 19.2 points per game. The problem for Memphis is that outside of Bane the Grizzlies do not take many 3”s. They are good on the interior but it’s hard to match the Warriors without perimeter shooting. The Grizzlies would come out play the Warriors for the Warriors first loss of the season 104-101 on Thursday night.

It was a monster first quarter for Golden State; the exact start they wanted to see. The Warriors shot 58% in the first quarter leading 37-20. Otto Porter Jr. was 2-2 on 3’s and had 8 points in the quarter. Iguodala, Bjelica and Porter had already made a huge difference in this game off this beautifully balanced bench.

Memphis was 0 for 10 on 3’s to start the second quarter unable to even come close to matching Golden State, although it was all Grizzlies in the first five minutes of the second quarter trimming their 17 point deficit to 8. Memphis started hitting 3’s and the Grizzlies were chipping away at the Golden State lead. Memphis would get within 6 points but that’s as close as they came in the quarter. Golden State led at the half 55-45 and Stephen Curry had 22 points and was 4 of 9 on 3’s. The Warriors had their first half time lead of the season.

The Grizzlies Ja Morant was limited to 7 points in the first half and so the Warriors were doing a great job taking him out of the game although he did start to heat up in the closing minutes of the second quarter.

Giveaways were killing the Warriors in the early minutes of the third quarter. The turnovers were piling up and the Grizzlies were taking full advantage. WIth Ja Morant really heating up there was trouble brewing for the Warriors. Golden State got back to the ten point half time lead with less than a minute left in the quarter but Ja Morant and company continued to grind and with one quarter left in the game the Warriors led 79-73. The stubborn Grizzlies just would not go away. The Grizzlies had 20 points off turnovers which was troublesome.

Now it was up to the bench to take this game home for the Warriors in the fourth quarter. Mid-way through the quarter the Grizzlies had tied up this game at 86. With six minutes left in the final quarter Memphis took their first lead in the game 89-86. At 3:01 Memphis was leading 96-93 as the Grizzlies refused to back down. With 2.1 left in the game the Warrior had one final shot to either win this game or go into overtime. This game would go into overtime. This was the third straight game that Curry did not score in the fourth quarter.

The two reasons for this overtime were the resurgence of Ja Morant and the 22 turnovers by Golden State. A defensive display by Memphis in overtime gave them a three point lead 104-101 with 57 ticks left on the clock.

It’s near to impossible to win with 23 turnovers and such was the case in this game. The Grizzlies won the game 104-101 in the overtime. Curry had not score in the fourth quarter or the overtime. He did have 36 points to finish this game. The Grizzlies were just better when it mattered winning the second, third and fourth quarters and of course the overtime.
