On the SJ Sharks podcast with Mary Lisa:

#1 The Vegas Golden Knights (30-20-4) Reilly Smith who scored two goals was the difference in the Knights 3-1 win over the San Jose Sharks (24-24-6) at T Mobile Center on Tuesday night in Las Vegas.

#2 For the Knights it was important win, they were coming off two straight loses and wanted to get back in the win column and pulled it off against the Sharks who in their own right were coming off a recent win from Sunday against Seattle.

#3 The Sharks knew the Knights were a force to reckon with and didn’t give up much ground to San Jose as the Knights are third in the NHL Western Conference and are just one point behind the Los Angeles Kings and are six points behind the Calgary Flames.

#4 For the Sharks Noah Gregor scored the Sharks only goal, the Sharks goaltender James Reimer who was making his 12th start suffered a lower body injury and had to be replaced by back up Zachary Sawchenko.

#5 Next up for the Sharks the Nashville Predators (30-19-2) who have lost five of their last eight games and lost their last game to the Tampa Bay Lightning last Saturday 3-2. How do you see the Sharks and Predators matching up at SAP Center?

On the SJ Sharks podcast with Mary Lisa:

#1 The San Jose Sharks (4-2-0) after winning their first four games and won three of the first five on this current road swing and lost the last two games on the trip to the Nashville Predators (3-4-0) on Tuesday night 3-1.

#2 The Predators got key defense from their goaltender Juuse Saros who stopped 28 out of 29 shots that held up for the Nashville victory.

#3 On offense the Preds got a goals in each of the first, second, and third periods, from Matt Duchene scored his second goal of the season at 1:20 in the first period, Filip Forsberg scored his third goal of the season in the second period at 12:31 and Mikael Granlund closed out the Nashville scoring with his second goal of the season at 19:07 in the third period.

#4 Although it wasn’t enough the Sharks were able to break up the shutout that Preds goalie Saros was throwing and got a third period goal from Timo Meier at 11:54 with assists from Logan Couture and Andrew Dalhen.

#5 The Sharks go back to the drawing board and face off against the Montreal Canadiens (1-7-0) on Thursday night. The Canadiens who have struggled of late losing six of their last seven games losing to the Seattle Kraken (2-4-1) on Tuesday night at Climate Pledge in Seattle.

Sharks Fall to Predators 3-1; Loss is second in a row for Sharks

The San Jose Sharks were defeated 3-1 by the Predators in Nashville Tuesday. Nashville goals came from Matt Duchene, Filip Forsberg and Mikael Granlund. Juuse Saros made 28 saves for the win. Timo Meier scored for the Sharks, and James Reimer made 23 saves in the loss.

The Predators scored less than two minutes into the game, on a very early power play. Duchene skated right down the slot, with Brent Burns in front of him. His shot slipped around Burns’ stick and past Reimer at 1:20. Assists went to Roman Josi and Ryan Johansen.

That was only penalty the Sharks’ took in the game. The Sharks power play had two shots on goal in the first, and the teams were dead even in shots for the first period at nine each. In the face-off circle, the Predators had an edge with a 52% win percentage.

Filip Forsberg made it 2-0 Predators at 12:31 of the second period. Roman Josi held the puck around the face-off dot until two Sharks and their goalie moved to defend against his shot. Then he found Forsbeg in the slot with a centering pass. Forsberg’s shot went between Mario Ferraro’s legs and over Reimer’s glove. Assists went to Josi and Dante Fabbro.

The Sharks had a slight edge in shots during the second period, 12-10. Their pwoer play got four shots in two tries. They improved in teh face-off circle to 57%.

Timo Meier scored for San Jose 11:54 into the third period. After an offensive zone draw, Meier jumped on a rebound and managed to get the puck in the net before tripping over Juuse’s outstretched left arm. Assists went to Jonathan Dahlen and Logan Couture.

Mikael Granlund scored into an empty net at 19:07, with a shot from his own net front. An assist went to Alexandre Carrier.

The Sharks finished with a 29-26 edge in shots and won 54% of their face-offs.

The Sharks next play on Thursday, at home in San Jose against the Montreal Canadiens at 7:30 PM PT.

#1 The Nashville Predators paid tribute to the Seattle Kraken with a virtual banner saying “Gave Seattle First Franchise Win” after Seattle got win on Thursday in Nashville. The Kraken said it was a bit of southern hospitality.

#2 The Columbus Blue Jackets paid tribute to late goaltender Matiss Kivlenieks on Thursday. Kivlenieks died in a fireworks accident in July. The CBJs had #80 also embossed under the ice surface in memory of Kivlenieks.

#3 Matt talk about the New York Islanders long road trip which has them embarking on a 13 game road trip to open their season because they are waiting for UBS Arena in Elmont to be finished the Isles new home.

#4 Matt talk about Charlie McAvoy signing with the Boston Bruins for $76 million which translates into $9 million annually. McAvoy scored 30 points and was tops in ice time last season.

#5 The Detroit Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin was suspended for roughing Tampa Bay Lightning forward Mathieu Joseph in last Thursday Oct 14th’s game. Larkin will loose $30,500 for the one game loss and the money will go to the players emergency fund.

#1 The biggest news in the NHL is the Florida Panthers (22-9-4) defenseman Aaron Ekblad will be out for 12 weeks due to a fractured leg. Ekblad was removed from the game in the second period on Sunday when the Dallas Stars (11-12-9) Esa Lindell checked Ekblad and Ekblad clutched his left leg that was under him. Ekblad was removed from the ice after medics put a brace on his leg.

#2 Len, the Nashville Predators (18-17-1) are one of the hottest teams in the NHL right now they took a six game winning streak into tonight’s game against the Dallas Stars. There’s nothing like a lot of experience and Preds goaltender Pekka Rinne has been key those wins in his last game he stopped 27 shots allowed two goals in the 3-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks (16-15-5).

#3 Len, try as hard as they can the Buffalo Sabers (6-23-5) just can’t win for losing. Their on a 16 game losing streak and on Monday night couldn’t pull a rabbit out of the hat losing to the Philadelphia Flyers (17-13-4) in overtime 4-3. The Sabres goalie Linus Ullmark faced a barrage of shots from the Flyers 36 in all. For Ullmark is it a matter of not getting enough defense up front or is he just getting beat at the net.

#4 The Vegas Knights (24-8-1) make it look so easy on Monday night they picked up another easy win with a 4-1 three goal victory over the Los Angeles Kings (13-14-6) at the T Mobile Center in Las Vegas. The key to the win was goaltender Robin Lehner who stopped 24 Kings shots.

#5. The Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maples have had a couple close games with the Leafs taking the first game of the two game series 4-3 and the Oilers taking game two 3-2.

#1 The Tampa Bay Lightning (5-1-1) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard to defeat the Nashville Predators (4-5-0) on Monday night 5-2. The Lightning scored three times in the first period and Nashville goalie Juuse Saros took the loss facing 25 shots and saving 21.

#2 The Boston Bruins (6-1-2) down 3-1 to the Washington Capitals (6-1-3) in the third period erased the Caps lead scoring four goals to surpass Washington to get a 5-3 win at Capital One Center in DC.

#3 The Montreal Canadiens (6-1-2) are a machine after taking their first regulation loss of the season on Saturday to the Calgary Flames. The Habs got a big victory over the Vancouver Canucks (6-6-0) 6-2 at the Bell Center in Montreal. The Canadiens scored three times in each of the first and second periods.

#4 The Pittsburgh Penguins (5-4-1) and New York Rangers (3-4-2) tied in a 1-1 deadlock the Rangers were able to get two key goals in the third period and come up with a two goal win over the Penguins. Chris Kreider and Artemi Panarin scored a goal each for the Rangers in the third period for the 3-1 win.

#5 The Calgary Flames down 2-1 against the Winnipeg Jets going into the third period scored twice with Johnny Gaudreau and Andrew Mangiapane scoring a goal each to force an overtime shootout. In the shootout the Flames got two goals and the Jets one for the Flames 4-3 win.

#1 The Philadelphia Flyers who were coming off two wins took a tough loss to the Buffalo Sabers on Monday night 6-1. The Sabers Curtis Lazar and Sam Reinhart both scored twice. The Flyers just simply could not get any semblance of offense going and Flyers goalie Carter Hart was having a tough time stopping shots facing 18-22.

#2 The Carolina Hurricanes got a two goal victory over the Nashville Predators 4-2. The Hurricanes down 2-1 came back in the third period getting goals from Vincent Trocheck, Sebastian Aho, and Nino Niederreiter.

#3 Big night for the Toronto Maple Leafs getting a 3-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets. For Toronto scoring Monday night John Taveras and Mitch Marner who scored twice in the two goal win.

#4 In a back and forth game between the San Jose Sharks and the St Louis Blues the St Louis Blues just escaped going overtime with the scored tied 4-4 and the Blues Jordan Kyrou scored the game winner at 10:28. Final was 5-4 Blues. Same two teams meet again on Wednesday night at the Enterprise Center.

#5 The Columbus Blue Jackets picked up their first win of 2021 with a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings. The Jackets scorers Oliver Bjorkstrand, Alexandre Texier, and Pierre Luc Dubois.

#2 The Ottawa Senators got a 4-3 win over the New York Islanders, the second period was key for Ottawa scoring two goals from Mikkel Boedker and Anthony Duclair as each team scored one goal in each of the other frames making the Ottawa second period the difference

#3 The Nashville Predators Filip Forsberg and Matt Duchene scored a goal each in their win over the Dallas Stars 2-0. Preds goalie Juuse Saros stopped 30 of 32 Stars shots for the shutout.

#4 The Chicago Blackhawks got three goals in the third period good enough to get by the visiting Edmonton Oilers 4-3 at the United Center on Thursday night. The Hawks Jonathan Toews scored a goal and Alex DeBrincat, scored twice in that the third period.

#5 Minnesota Wild second period goals from Alex Galchunyuk and Zach Parise turned out to the be the difference as the Wild got a 3-2 win over the San Jose Sharks on Thursday. The Sharks Joe Thornton score in the third period but the Sharks fell short ending their three game win streak.

#1 Bobby Ryan of the Ottawa Senators coming off a NHL/NHLPA alcohol assistance program since November 20th stepped on the ice and scored a hat trick for the Senators 5-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks.

#2  The Winnipeg Jets Connor Hellebuyck picked up his fifth shutout of the season with a 3-0 win over the Washington Capitals. Hellebuyck had his moments standing on his head stopping a Alex Ovechkin twice and a great glove save from the Caps Ilya Kovachuk’s shot in the second period on a power play.

#3 The San Jose Sharks picked up an overtime win against the New Jersey Devils 3-2 when the Sharks team captain Logan Couture scored an overtime goal his first since his return from his injury

#4 The Nashville Predators Mikael Granlund got a game winning goal with just 0.1 of a second left in the game to force overtime against the Calgary Flames. Granlund then scored in the overtime stanza at 1:20 for the game winner.

#5 The Chicago Blackhawks Dominik Kubalik scored a hat trick in the third period during the Hawks five goal rally to come back to beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-2. The Blackhawks Corey Crawford stopped 37 shots. It was the Bolts fourth loss in a row.

#1 The Minnesota Wild’s Jared Sprugeon got a natural hat trick on Friday night against the Edmonton Oilers 5-3. The Wild also got goal help from Kevin Fiala and Carson Soucy as the Wild pick up their second straight win.

#2 The St Louis Blues David Perron found the back end of the net again scoring his 24th goal as the Blues defeated the Dallas Stars 5-1. Dallas goaltender Ben Bishop left early in the contest after allowing multiple goals.

#3 The Boston Bruins Patrice Bergeron scored a pair of goals in the Bruins 4-3 win over the Calgary Flames, Bergeron is on a roll scoring 21 times in 32 games

#4 The New York Rangers got three goal win over the Carolina Hurricanes 5-2, the Rangers Mike Zibanejad scored a goal and had two assists. The Rangers will be on back to back games hosting the San Jose Sharks tonight at MSG.

#5 The Chicago Blackhawks edged the Nashville Predators 2-1 on Friday night, the Hawks Alex DeBrincat got a third period goal and also in overtime to put Chicago over the top 2-1
