#1 Chicago Cubs manager David Ross apologized in a text message to Pittsburgh Pirates manager Derek Shelton for saying the Pirates are not a very good team after the Pirates took two out three games from the Cubs this week. Ross said after apologizing and addressing the press that after games sometimes you can say the wrong things that don’t come out the right way.

#2 The Milwaukee Brewers Rowdy Tellez didn’t get an at bat on Friday night against the Miami Marlins but ended up putting them away in oder when he was called to pitch against them in the ninth. Tellez the Brewers first baseman came into pitch with the Brewers ahead 16-1.

#3 The Los Angeles Angels reported that third baseman Anthony Rendon will not play again for the rest of the season. Rendon had been out of action since July 4th. Rendon who has a leg injury fouled a pitch off his leg against the San Diego Padres, it was reported as a bruise but later confirmed as a fractured tibia.

#4 The Minnesota Twins picked up their third AL Central title in the last five seasons. The other two title wins were in 2019 and 2020. The Twins have won nine central titles and 13 division titles.

#5 Charlie, the New York Yankees Aaron Judge continues to amaze Judge hit three home runs and becomes the first Yankee to hit three home runs in a game twice in a season. The Yankees may not be going anywhere but Judge has been a silver lining.

#1 Jasson Dominguez became the youngest player in New York Yankees history to hit a home run at age 20 and 206 days in his first MLB game and first at bat. Dominguez was the first Yankees since Aaron Judge to hit a home run in his first at bat since Aug 13, 2016.

#2 The Los Angeles Angels waived six players on Thursday and manager Phil Nevin told the call ups to go out and have fun. It wasn’t too much fun for the Halos on Friday as this revamped team got whipped by the last place Oakland A’s 9-2 and the Angels dropped game two of the series on Saturday 2-1 .

#3 How about Angels shortstop Kyren Paris who made his MLB debut on Friday and batted ninth. Paris was thrilled playing in Oakland where he grew up in Oakley (48 miles from the Coliseum). “To play right here in the Coliseum is going to be special,” Paris said.

#4 Jose Altuve Houston Astros infielder is injured again he left Friday night’s game against the New York Yankees with a bruised left leg. Altuve was hitting leadoff and grounded out and walked back to the dugout gingerly and was assisted by the trainer to the clubhouse.

#5 Charlie, we wanted to get a chance to ask you about MLB keeping the pitch clock for post season which time framed the hitter and the pitcher for the regular season and how you see the clock impacting the post season. Also the league will not use the ghost runner for the post season. So we might be able to see a 12 or 13 inning game yet.

#1 The London Series is underway with the Chicago Cubs and the St Louis Cardinals matching up this weekend. It’s got to be an important series with MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred in attendance as he’s trying to boost the MLB brand in Europe.

#2 The Tampa Bay Rays Wander Franco who has expressed frustration by breaking a bat in the Rays dugout and not running out ground balls was sent home on Thursday night and benched on Friday night was back in the line up on Saturday and admitted that the organization is trying to get control of his frustrations and he admitted making errors that got away from him. Franco is hitting .287 and is in the second season of his $182 million contract.

#3 Charlie what can you say about the Cincinnati Reds that hasn’t already been said. The Red Legs are on a 12 game win streak and Elly De La Cruz’s cycle on Friday night added to the success the club has been having. The Reds are in first in the NL Central by 1.5 games on second place the Milwaukee Brewers.

#4 The Los Angeles Angels enhanced their infield up the middle acquiring Eduardo Escobar from the New York Mets for pitchers Coleman Crow and Landon Marceaux, who were 19 and 20th in the Angels system. Escobar’s $9 million contact will be picked up by the Mets at the pro rated MLB minimum. 2024 is an option year for Escobar.

#5 MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred who is attending the London Series this weekend as we spoke about earlier said that one big turnout for the Oakland A’s on Tue Jun 23 at the Oakland Coliseum doesn’t solve a “decade of inaction” referring to the fans reverse boycott and is waiting for the A’s to submit their relocation application in preparation for an owners vote that requires a 75% yes vote. Eight no votes can turn the tide for the A’s moving to Vegas.

#1 Bartolo Colon the former Oakland A’s and New York Mets pitcher will get a great send off at Citi Field on Aug 26th. Colon 50 who retired in 2018 finally will get his well deserved retirement party. Colon pitched for 21 years and on 11 MLB teams.

#2 He came riding high and with all the attributes and predictions of being a big league superstar and someone who could nothing short of making the Hall of Fame ballot with the talent he brought as a big league pitcher. Stephen Strasburg was a 2019 World Series MVP and signed a seven year $245 million contract with the Washington Nationals since 2020 he’s pitched only eight times, two times in 2020 and has suffered from carpal tunnel syndrome in his pitching arm. It was reported that Strasburg could return soon but is still suffering severe nerve damage.

#3 Charlie O, the Los Angeles Dodgers Mookie Betts is doing it all and has been tabbed the “modern day Rickey Henderson” Betts whose in the leadoff role for Los Angeles is hitting .263, 57 hits, 45 runs, 15 home runs and 36 RBIs for this season. “It’s a pretty cool comparison, being compared to Rickey, but Rickey was a different breed,” said Betts.

#4 With the bases loaded for the Chicago White Sox in the bottom of the tenth inning the White Sox Tim Anderson at the plate and two outs with Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Jose Cisnero trying to work his way out of the inning Cisnero thought he got the signal to throw a sink when Tigers catcher Eric Haase called for a slider. The pitch didn’t sink and got away and hit home plate umpire Corey Blaser in the face mask knocking him to the ground. It was a live ball and it allowed the Sox Andrew Benintendi to score from third for the walk off wild pitch giving the White Sox the 2-1 win. Blaser is under observation and doctor’s care.

#5 Charlie O, the vote for relocating the Oakland A’s could come right down the owners vote during the week of Jun 13-15th. The A’s according to MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred will not be charged for a relocation fee. The other MLB owners have not objected at least to the media or sources about the A’s not having to pay a relocation fee. The A’s and Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo have an agreement on the funding of the new ballpark for $1.5 billion contingent on the Nevada Legislature’s approval. To show you that the assembly is under pressure by residents mostly who oppose the new ballpark they’re haggling amongst each other on how to vote and the deadline is Mon Jun 5th in 24 hours to vote as the session is ending.

#1 Charlie, you’ve spent many a decade cover the Oakland A’s going through the stands and pressbox speaking with the fans and reporters you can see it on their faces during this current homestand with the Cincinnati Reds ironically another team you covered back in your days in Ohio. Fans at the Oakland Coliseum are pushing for A’s owner John Fisher to sell the team.

#2 Charlie, how possible is it that the A’s will move into their minor league affiliate the Las Vegas Aviators park in 2024?

#3 The Aviators are fairly new tenants in that ballpark coming from old Cashman Field how excited or not excited do they have to be sharing a ballpark that most likely will have to change from grass to turf for some 150 plus games?

#4 Charlie, San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres play game two in Mexico City today. The response to this series has been by the local fans. Do you see Mexico City having a shot at getting an expansion team?

#5 If you missed it on Friday San Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler took the subway to get to Afredo Harp Helu Stadium for practice and ended up getting off one stop before the ballpark station because the station was under construction as passengers needed to use the bus to get to the next station. Kapler knew just enough Spanish to ask the driver to let him off at the freeway near the stadium and Kapler had to cross three lanes of highway to get to the ballpark saying he’ll take the team bus for the two game series.

#1 Charlie talk about that weird pomp and circumstance with the New York Yankees Domingo German who was in the middle of pitching a perfect game and the umpires. Crew chief James Hoye did a routine hand check on German but later did a real once over and it brought out German interpreter, manager Aaron Boone, catcher Kyle Higashioka, while the umpiring crew stood by as Hoye was lecturing German about washing his hands. Ironically Minnesota Twins manager Rocco Baldelli ended up being the one who got tossed out of the game for pressing Hoye on what was going on. Too many questions.

#2 Charlie, Saturday was Jackie Robinson day where all players, managers, coaches, and umpires wear number 42 every Apr 15th to commemorate his arrival in baseball on Apr 15, 1947 with the Brooklyn Dodgers. But yet and still MLB has a low percentage of blacks playing the game around 7%. What would Jackie Robinson say or think if he knew this today?

#3 The Chicago Cubs Cody Bellinger got a nice ovation upon his return to Los Angeles against the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on Friday. The ovation went past the time allowed to get back in the batter’s box so Bellinger was called for a strike for clock violation while receiving the standing ovation.

#4 Charlie, Bad Bunny is the latest in a line of artists who are up to signing MLB talent the entertainer has the San Francisco Giants Wilmer Flores, Toronto Blue Jays Santiago Espinal, and the Colorado Rockies Yonathan Daza under his company. Bunny is one of the few musical artists who are in the agency business Jay Z amongst them.

#5 What is going on with Detroit Tigers Javy Baez who got double off at third base not doubling up and taking off for third base with one out on a fly to center as the Toronto Blue Jays threw him out at second base. Baez’ numbers have a lot to be desired with just four hits in 40 games, eight strike outs in 11 games, no home run and one RBI and hitting .159. Baez is in a six year deal worth $140 million.

#1 Charlie O, it’s the tale of two teams one team the Oakland A’s are predicted to have a even rougher and tougher season than their 102 loss season and it’s not getting off to a great start either with a loses starting to mount now sitting on a 2-8 start of 2023.

#2 The other team that’s already getting lots of props the Tampa Bay Rays who have won their first ten games defeating the Red Sox in their last game at Tropicana Field Monday night. The Rays have been getting both plenty of pitching and hitting defeating the A’s last Saturday and Sunday in landslide wins 11-0.

#3 Got to ask you have impressive it is for the Rays were in good company with the 1939 New York Yankees. The Rays had a nine game win streak scoring four or more runs going and needed four games to catch the 39 Yankees who have 13 straight wins scoring four or more runs it didn’t happen as the Rays topped the Sox by a run 1-0 on Monday for their tenth straight win.

#4 The Rays also got some top notch hitting Sunday from lead off hitter Brandon Lowe with four RBIs and two runs scored, Randy Arozarena who got two hits and an RBI. The Rays simply are the talk of baseball right now with their 10-0 record.

#5 Charlie, you’ve been around minor league baseball a time or two talk about the Los Angeles Angels affiliate on Sunday the Rocket City Trash Pandas who allowed a hit in a doubleheader and came away with a split. Three Panda pitchers combined for a seven inning no hitter against the Cincinnati Reds affiliate the Chattanooga Lookouts Sunday. The Pandas allowed seven runs in the top of the seventh, five walks, hit five batters, a run scoring wild pitch and a dropped fly ball with the bases loaded which would have been the final out.

#6 Atlanta catcher Travis D’Arnaud has been placed on the seven day injured list. D’Arnaud received a concussion after the San Diego Padres Rougned Odor collided with D’Arnaud at the plate in the Padres loss to the Braves 4-1 Saturday at Sun Trust Stadium in Cobb County. How much or how little did the Buster Posey rule play a part in this collision?

#1 Charlie, how much will the absence of New York Yankees starter Luis Severino impact the Yankees. Severino will miss a spring start due to lat strain. Manager Aaron Boone says it’s likely Severino could miss the start of the regular season.

#2 Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins was carted off the field on Sunday after suffering from a torn ACL and will require surgery. Hoskins went to field a Detroit Tigers Austin Meadows ground ball that skidded off Hoskins glove and went to chase down the ball as he pivoted to start the pursuit Hoskins fell to the ground grabbing his left knee.

#3 MLB withdrew an trademark application intent on having the right to use the city name of three of it’s MLB teams. One of them being the Boston Red Sox. MLB said there was a misunderstanding they didn’t want to have exclusive rights to a city name they just wanted protect the city name in association with apparel not copyrighted use of the city name.

#4 On the Howard Stern Radio Show former New York Yankees star Reggie Jackson says he cheated a lot during his playing days off the field saying he was a serial cheater. He wasn’t just Mr. October in the month of October but Reggie said he did it all the time. In the segment Stern asked Jackson if it was hard for him to open his heart to a woman with Jackson replying ““It wasn’t hard for me to open my heart, but it was hard for me to be loyal,” Jackson said. “As a man, I cheated a lot.”

#5 Charlie wanted to talk to you about a guy you covered for many years former Oakland Athletic Jed Lowrie who played three different times for the A’s and in baseball for 14 years, nine with the A’s. Lowrie said of all the teams he played for the A’s were the most special. Lowrie said the A’s let him be himself. Lowrie broke in the big leagues 2008, hit a career .257, scored 590 runs, 121 home runs, and knocked in 594 RBIs.

#1 It’s going to be a very special day for San Francisco Giants pitcher Sergio Romo who will retire as a Giants on Mon Mar 27th at Oracle Park in San Francisco. Romo a reliever was part of the 2012 and 2014 World Championship teams and was crucial in the closing role those seasons. Romo pitched for the Giants for nine seasons.

#2 Charlie just getting updates on the New York Mets centerfielder Brandon Nimmo and left hand pitcher Jose Quintana. Nimmo hurt his right ankle and woke up the next day with his right knee hurting. Nimmo underwent an MRI and it’s questionable if he’ll be able to play by opening day. Quintana had bone graft surgery to remove a benign lesion on his rib and is not expected back until July.

#3 Former Seattle Mariner great Ken Griffey Jr who is a Team USA coach put on a clinic during batting practice in front of Team USA at LoanDepot Park in Miami on Saturday. Sporting the traditional backward baseball cap Jr was launching a few into the bleachers to the roar of the Team USA players. He still has his skills.

#4 Charlie one of the risks of participating in the World Baseball Classic is players could get hurt and the Houston Astros Jose Altuve who was swinging the bats for Team Venezuela was no different taking a Team USA pitch from Daniel Bard right on the fingers of his right hand. Altuve hit the deck after getting hit and got help from the training staff and walked off the field to the clubhouse.

#5 Brown University a utility player made Division 1 history becoming the first woman to play in a NCAA Division 1 game as Olivia Pichardo ripped a grounder to first for an unassisted out but a history making moment saying it was a lot of fun and she was glad to get something out of her first at bat.
