American Family Field is seen Sept. 15, 2023, in Milwaukee. The Wisconsin state Assembly was set Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023, to approve a Republican-authored plan to spend more than half-a-billion dollars to help cover repairs at the Milwaukee Brewers’ stadium. (AP News photo)

By Amaury Pi-González

Wisconsin State Assembly just approved a plan to keep the Milwaukee Brewers in Wisconsin until at least 2050 in exchange for spending nearly $550 million in state and local money to finance the team’s stadium. After legislators raised the prospect of the Brewers leaving Wisconsin is the state didn’t fund repairs at America Family Field.

Mark Attanasio, owner of the Milwaukee Brewers also chairs the Major League Baseball committee regarding the Oakland A’s move to Las Vegas. The Brewers needed the funds to repair the stadium in Milwaukee. Mr.Attanasio fortune is estimated to be $700 million.

The State of Milwaukee has a total population of 5.8 million people, Milwaukee is the largest city, although a small baseball market, it represents a lot of the economy and name recognition of this state in the world of sports.

Mr.Attanasio who chairs the MLB committee regarding the relocation of the A’s from Oakland to Las Vegas, recently said about the owners committee; “The committee, we are literally in the middle of our process, which therefore, I can’t comment,” Attanasio said. “Even if I were to comment, we’re still doing our work. In fact, we had a meeting a couple of days ago. We have another meeting scheduled this week, so we’re addressing it in a broad context and there’s a lot to address.”

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred expects the vote by the owners regarding the approval of the A’s move to Las Vegas will take place this November. Three-quarters of the owners votes are needed for the A’s to move to Las Vegas.

Oakland A’s podcast with Daniel Dullum: MLB teams relocation threats are to get local tax money for improvements

Camden Yards in Baltimore, John Angelos and family who own the Baltimore Orioles want improvements on the ballpark. They were offered $600 million from the state of Maryland and the Angelos wants more they want to build a downtown complex for hotels, retail, offices, and to own the land if not the team will relocate possibly to Nashville (AP file photo)

On the A’s podcast with Daniel:

#1 Daniel, there are now seven MLB clubs who are interested in relocating for various reasons how much of a role did A’s owner John Fisher play in opening the door to relocation in his case Las Vegas and now MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred can capitalize on mass taxpayer municipalities who will feel like hostages to try and keep their teams.

#2 All of sudden the idea of relocating might not be half a bad idea they could get expansion money out of it or best yet they can get state and local tax money to do the relocation and best yet baseball doesn’t have to worry about the relocation fees.

#3 Daniel, tell us about the teams who are interested in moving unless their local government comes up with tax payer money for stadium improvements or to pay for new stadiums are Tampa Bay, Arizona, Milwaukee, Chicago White Sox, Baltimore, Kansas City and the Los Angeles Angels.

#4 It was stated the national past time is not designed to be there for generations of fans, loyal fans, long time season ticket holders it’s there for the mean green almighty dollar and to serve the MLB owners including Fisher.

#5 At Howard Terminal where the A’s originally were going to try and move to before A’s team president David Kaval said the A’s had a binding agreement in Vegas. The A’s are suing longtime Howard Terminal tenant Schnitzer Steel for toxic waste. There is also an investigation into why Schnitzer has had fires at their plant between 2018-2020, there have been five fires involving hazardous materials at the plant. Schnitzer had a most recent fire last Wed Aug 16th.

MLB The Show podcast with Augie Messenburg: Umpire loses racial discrimination case; Broadcaster is bat boy for a night for losing fantasy football; plus more

Umpire Ángel Hernández during the first inning of a baseball game between the New York Yankees and the Houston Astros, Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, in New York. Hernández lost again in his race discrimination lawsuit against Major League Baseball when a federal appeals court refused to reinstate his case on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2023. (AP News photo)

On the MLB The Show podcast with Auggie:

#1 Auggie, umpire Angel Hernandez lost a racial discrimination case against MLB accusing baseball of passing over him for a crew chief job and MLB passed over him for a World Series assignment. MLB said that Hernandez miss 15 calls last Saturday between the Miami Marlins and Seattle Mariners which might be their reasoning for keeping him off some of the assignments he’s been asking for.

#2 San Francisco Giants bat boy at least for a night and broadcaster Dave Flemming filled in picking up the lumber, shin and elbow guards, helmets and batting gloves on the field. Flemming was given the punishment of being bat boy on Monday night for losing the fantasy football league last season.

#3 The Tampa Bay Rays roster as of Tuesday night did not list Franco Wander anywhere on the roster sheet or the restricted list, Franco was accused of being in social media relationship with a 14 year old girl who allegedly was not given hush money and reported the relationship. Wander had addressed his teammates this week saying he is not in a relationship and that the accusations are not true and is one the restriction list until this current road trip is over.

#4 The Oakland A’s sent outfielder JJ Bleday to the ten day IL and pitcher Angel Felipe is on the 15 day IL. Bleday sprained his left knee. Bleday is hitting .203, 10 home runs, and 27 RBIs and Felipe is suffering elbow sprain going 1-1 with an 4.20 ERA. The A’s got swept in Washington and are trying to pick up at least one win in St Louis. The series ends on Wednesday afternoon.

#5 Auggie didn’t get to catch up to you and ask you about the Milwaukee are requesting funds from the state of Wisconsin for improvements at American Family Park. Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers proposed $290 billion as a package that the Brewers would sign as an extension through 2043. The Baltimore Orioles and the NFL Baltimore Ravens are to receive $600 million each for bond authorization for stadium improvements. The Orioles have said they would consider moving out of Baltimore if they don’t get money for stadium improvements.

That’s Amaury News and Commentary podcast: Could Orioles and Brewers relocate over lack of funding upgrades?

A general aerial view of Oriole Park at Camden Yards is seen, June 27, 2020, in Baltimore. A Maryland official on a powerful state board says there’s “too much foot-dragging” between the Maryland Stadium Authority and the Baltimore Orioles to renew the team’s lease at Camden Yards. Treasurer Dereck Davis, who is one of three members of the Maryland Board of Public Works, expressed his concerns at the end of a board meeting Wednesday, July 19, 2023. (AP News photo)

On That’s Amaury News and Commentary podcast:

#1 Amaury, the Baltimore Orioles are in first place, have the best ballpark in Major League Baseball and are getting a $600 million commitment from the state of Maryland and Orioles owner John Angelos is not satisfied. He wants deal similar to what the Atlanta Braves got in Cobb County stadium improvements (in the case of the Orioles) Braves had their stadium paid by the county also the Orioles want prime downtown real estate in Baltimore.

#2 Camden Yards was built in 1992 and is the tenth oldest park in MLB and it has so many nuances with it’s wide concourses, lots of food varieties, it’s throw back look and rated as one of the best parks in the majors. It’s hard to imagine that anything needs to be added to improve Camden yet the Orioles want improvements and if they don’t get it they could ask to relocate.

#3 The Milwaukee Brewers were ordered by MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred to do stadium improvements on American Family Park and the state of Wisconsin is offering up $290 million towards those improvement as approved by Governor Tony Evers.

#4 The Brewers have also threatened to move out of Milwaukee if they don’t get financed for improvements for their ballparks. If the Brewers don’t get funded to their satisfaction it would take years to prepare their move.

#5 To name some of the cities that would like to have MLB and welcome the Brewers and Orioles two that come to mind Charlotte and Nashville. It would be ashamed if Baltimore and Milwaukee would lose their teams due to relocation. Also chances are they would not have to pay a relocation fee.

Giants Travel to Toronto for Upcoming Series Tuesday

By Barbara Mason

Things for the most part have been going very well for the San Francisco Giants (44-34). Not to long ago the Giants were a number of games under five hundred and they have totally turned that around. They won a series against the San Diego Padres last week and most recently took a series from the division leading Arizona Diamondbacks.

After previous struggles the team is now pulling off come-from-behind wins, they often take early leads; they have an enviable defense not to mention their offense which is cranking on all cylinders. The Giants have moved ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers and look ahead to a series starting this Tuesday with the Blue Jays in Toronto.

Although the Blue Jays are favored, the way this club is playing right now this series could go either way. Toronto’s starting lineup will be a challenge for the Giants with George Springer, Matt Chapman, Cavan Biggio, Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. These guys will keep the San Francisco defense very busy. San Francisco does have some offensive “giants” of their own with Thairo Estrade. J.D. Davis, Luis Matos, Michael Conforto and LaMonte Wade Jr. The team will be without Mike Yastrzemski who is on a 10-day IR with a left hamstring injury.

Starting pitcher for the Giants was undecided at the time of this posting. The Giants Michael Conforto leads the Giants with 12 home runs and a batting average of .285. J.D. Davis has the most RBI’s. Bo Bichette leads the Blue Jays with a .318 batting average and also has 14 homeruns to his credit this season. Toronto will send Kevin Gausman to the mound with a 3.10 ERA and a 7-3 win/loss record.

First pitch for this series on Tuesday is scheduled for 4:07 PM

#1 The London Series is underway with the Chicago Cubs and the St Louis Cardinals matching up this weekend. It’s got to be an important series with MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred in attendance as he’s trying to boost the MLB brand in Europe.

#2 The Tampa Bay Rays Wander Franco who has expressed frustration by breaking a bat in the Rays dugout and not running out ground balls was sent home on Thursday night and benched on Friday night was back in the line up on Saturday and admitted that the organization is trying to get control of his frustrations and he admitted making errors that got away from him. Franco is hitting .287 and is in the second season of his $182 million contract.

#3 Charlie what can you say about the Cincinnati Reds that hasn’t already been said. The Red Legs are on a 12 game win streak and Elly De La Cruz’s cycle on Friday night added to the success the club has been having. The Reds are in first in the NL Central by 1.5 games on second place the Milwaukee Brewers.

#4 The Los Angeles Angels enhanced their infield up the middle acquiring Eduardo Escobar from the New York Mets for pitchers Coleman Crow and Landon Marceaux, who were 19 and 20th in the Angels system. Escobar’s $9 million contact will be picked up by the Mets at the pro rated MLB minimum. 2024 is an option year for Escobar.

#5 MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred who is attending the London Series this weekend as we spoke about earlier said that one big turnout for the Oakland A’s on Tue Jun 23 at the Oakland Coliseum doesn’t solve a “decade of inaction” referring to the fans reverse boycott and is waiting for the A’s to submit their relocation application in preparation for an owners vote that requires a 75% yes vote. Eight no votes can turn the tide for the A’s moving to Vegas.

#2 Mauricio, after the Milwaukee Brewers were swept by the Oakland A’s in three games they have fallen from first to second and are now one game behind the Pittsburgh Pirates it has to be surprising circumstances for the Brewers who had the last place A’s come into American Family Field and sweep them in their own park.

MLB The Show podcast with Charlie O: Phils manager tossed for clock reset issues; Twins Polanco back on IL for hamstring injury; plus more

On the MLB The Show podcast with Charlie O:

#1 Philadelphia Phillies manager Ron Thompson was ejected after plate umpire Roberto Ortiz refused to reset the pitch clock after Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola requested a new baseball. Ortiz had threw out several baseballs and requested new ones and Ortiz felt that he had reached his quota of disposed baseballs. Thompson came out to argue that Ortiz should have reset the clock back from 10 seconds to 20 seconds with a runner on base in the sixth inning. Crew Chief Bill Miller got most of Thompson’s heat after ejecting Thompson, while Nola was facing the Los Angeles Dodgers David Peralta. Thompson questioned how Ortiz knew for sure that Nola was trying to stall for time by throwing out baseballs.

#2 The Minnesota Twins second baseman Jorge Polanco is back on the ten day IL due to a left hamstring. Polanco returned to the line up on June 1st from being out with the left hamstring injury. Polanco is hitting .250, with five home runs, 16 RBIs in 30 games.

#3 Los Angles Dodgers pitcher Shelby Miller was place on bereavement leave on Saturday. Miller 32, 1-0 ERA 2.57 and has relieved in 24 games for the Dodgers. Friday night Miller pitched two innings striking out three in two innings of work.

The A’s took two of the last three games in Pittsburgh and the first two games of a three game series in Milwaukee. Is it possible that they might have turned a page or too early to tell?

#5 Charlie lastly, the saga of the $380 million tax credits that the Oakland A’s are seeking from the state of Nevada and Clark County continues as the Nevada Assembly adjourned Thursday and will return on Monday to vote on whether or not to approve the bonds. If the bonds are not approved the A’s will have to find another deal to work out possibly with the City of Oakland and Mayor Sheng Thao who has a deal from the previous Howard Terminal bargaining session. If the Nevada Legislature approves the stadium bonds the Nevada State Assembly must approve the measure before Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo signs off on the deal.
