March Madness NCAA podcast Daniel Dullum:

#1 Daniel, Yaxel Lendeborg scored a Michigan Wolverine team high 25 points and had his share of dunking at the Midwest Region to advance to the Sweet 16 getting a 95-72 win against the St Louis Billikens in round two of the NCAA Tournament Saturday.

#2 Santa Clara Broncos Allen Graves hit a go ahead basket. Then the Kentucky Wildcats Ortega Oweh hit a three pointer to tie it up with 2.4 seconds left in regulation. The buzzer sounded while the ball was in mid air but the basket counted. Kentucky also added eight more points to pull away for the 89-84 win. The Wildcats will meet Iowa State for the Midwest Region tournament next.

#3 Michigan State Spartans picked up a huge win over the Louisville Cardinals Saturday in Chicago in a 77-69 victory to advance to the Sweet 16. Coen Carr led with 21 points, ten rebounds, 16 assists, getting a double-double. For Spartans head coach Tom Izzo it was his 17th advancing the Spartans to the Sweet 16.

#4 The Duke Blue Devils lit it up in the second half of action in the NCAA Tournament shooting 61.5% and pulled away from the TCU Horned Frogs by a healthy margin 81-58. Duke’s Cameron Boozer had 19 points it was a physical contest between both teams. Duke is the number one seed.

#5 The Houston Cougars defeated Texas A&M Aggies by a convincing 88-57 final. The Cougars got 18 points from top scorer Emannuel Sharp, Chris Cenac Jr finished with 17 points, and guard Miles Uzan finished in third with 15 points. With the win the Cougars advance to the Sweet 16 on Thu Mar 26th.

#6 The number 11 seeded Texas Longhorns defeated the Gonzaga Bulldogs 74-68. What was contrasting Gonzaga’s top scorer forward Graham Ike outscored Texas’ two top scorers with 25 points versus Matas Vokietaitis and guard Jordan Pope both who finished with 17 points.

#7 Texas A&M Aggies Rashaun Agee scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Aggies No.10 defeated the St Mary’s Gaels Thursday night during the first round of the NCAA Tournament 63-50. Ruben Dominguez scored 11 points.

Michigan holds off Cardinal 83-78 at Battle 4 Atlantis

Stanford dropped its second straight game in the Battle 4 Atlantis men’s basketball tournament, as Michigan held off the Cardinal 83-78 on Thanksgiving Day at the Atlantis Resort in Paradise Island, The Bahamas.

The Cardinal concludes its tournament play on Friday against Northern Iowa. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m. Pacific.

Stanford (3-3) opened the game with a 23-9 lead in the first 7:29 of the first half. Trailing by one point at halftime, Stanford used an eight-point run, completed with a layup by Michael Jones, to take a 52-45 lead at 18:37 of the second half.

Nimari Burnett’s jumper tied the game for Michigan at 52-52 at 16:46, and a dunk by Tarris Reed Jr. capped the Wolverines’ 11-0 run to surge ahead 58-52.

Michigan (4-2) built a 67-54 lead at 12:24, Over the next five minutes, the Cardinal cut their deficit to three on a jumper in the paint by Maxime Raynaud, pulling Stanford to within 68-65.

Angel Brayden’s layup closed Michigan’s lead to 70-69, and a Jared Bynum 3-pointer tied the game at 72-72 with 4:43 remaining. Michigan responded with a seven-point run that was halted with Bynum hit another 3 with 25 seconds to play, cutting the Wolverines’ lead to 79-75.

Free throw shooting by Dug McDaniel and Terrance Williams II put the Wolverines back up by eight at 83-75 with 13 seconds remaining. A layup and free throw by Bynum ended the scoring.

Bynum was 8 of 17 shooting – 5 of 8 behind the arc – for a game-high 22 points to go with six assists. Jones was next with 16 points, including four treys. Reynaud had 14 points and a team-leading eight rebounds, and Angel finished with 11 points.

McDaniel led the Wolverines with 20 points and eight assists, followed by Williams II with 17, Oliver Nkamhoua with 16, Reed with 11 and Burnett with 10.

#1 There were no shortages of awards for NCAAF coaches this week. Michigan Wolverine’s head coach Jim Harbaugh who led Michigan to a College Football Playoff birth and a Big Ten title for the first time in 17 years was awarded the Associated Press college football coach of the year.

#2 The Utah Utes head coach Kyle Whittingham was named the Pac 12 coach of the year. Whittingham led the Utes to the Rose Bowl and had no problems defeating the Oregon Ducks in the Pac 12 Championship in Las Vegas last week.

#3 Former Oakland Raiders head coach Hue Jackson was named head coach at Grambling, Jackson was head coach at Tennessee State and fills the job opening after Grambling fired Broderick Fobbs in November.

#1 No.6 Michigan Wolverines (9-1) keep rolling this time they bested the Penn State (6-4) Nittany Lions 21-17.Michigan quarterback Cade McNamara was 19-29 for 217 yards, and three touchdowns. Good defense by the Wolverines held the Nittany Lions to two field goals in the first half while they scored a touchdown in each of the second, third, and fourth quarters.

#2 There was no mercy rule for the New Mexico State Aggies (1-9) who got crushed by the Alabama Crimson Tide (9-1) 59-3. The Aggies only bright spot in this one was they were able to shutout Alabama in the third quarter. The Crimson Tide used four passers in the game. Starter Bryce Young went 21-23 for 270 yards and five touchdowns.

#3 The No.5 Cincinnati Bearcats (10-0) maintained their perfect record taking to the South Florida Bulls (2-8) 45-28. The Bearcats kept pouring it on with 17 points in the second quarter and 14 points in the fourth quarter. Bearcats quarterback Desmond Ridder went 31-39 for 304 yards and two touchdowns.

On the March Madness podcast with Michelle:

#1 The Baylor Bears (25-2) advanced for another round with a 62-51 against the Villanova Wildcats (18-7). The Wildcats had a 30-23 first half lead. The Bears came back in the second half with a 39-21 for the win. The Bears top scorer Adam Flager finished with 16 points.

#2 In a razor close game the Arkansas Razorbacks (21-5) clipped the Oral Robets Eagles (18-11) 72-70 on Saturday. The Eagles had a 35-28 lead after the first half but the Razorbacks came right back with a 44-35 second half. The Razorbacks guard Jalen Tate led all scorers with 22 points.

#3 The No.6 Michigan Wolverines women (16-6) lost a tough one to the No.2 Baylor Lady Bears (28-2) the Bears NaLssya Smith was the top scorer with 24 points. The Lady Bears led in every frame but the Wolverines tried to make a come back in the fourth quarter but fell three points short 78-75.

On the NCAA podcast with Michelle Richardson:

#1 The Clemson Tigers (12-0) didn’t hold back in this one on Saturday taking out the South Carolina Gamecocks and early with a 38-3 win. Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw 26 for 36 for 295 yards and three touchdowns.

#2 What will become of the Michigan Wolverines (9-3) head coach Jim Harbaugh? The Wolves took a tough loss in a landslide 56-27 getting knocked by the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Buckeyes scored two touchdowns in each of their four quarters.

#3 Georgia Bulldogs (11-1) Jake Fromm went 14-29 and threw for 254 yards and four touchdowns in the Bulldogs laugher over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 52-7. The Yellow Jackets avoided getting shutout when Brian Herrien rushed for a touchdown in the second quarter.

#1 The Alabama Crimson Tide’s Tua Tagovailoa will be out for the rest of the season due to a dislocated hip and he got a bloody nose in the Tide’s game with Mississippi State. Alabama won it 38-7. What will the loss of Tagovailoa mean for the Crimson Tide?

#2 Penn State picked a big win over the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday with a 34-27 win. The Nittany Lions quarterback Sean Clifford threw for 178 yards, 11-23 and one touchdown.

#3 Michigan improved to 8-2 with a 44-10 win over Michigan State and the Wolverines quarterback Sean Patterson threw for 384 yards, 24-33, and four touchdowns.

#1 Boise State left little doubt in their game against Air Force 30-19, Boise State quarterback Hank Backmeier threw for 263 yards and two touchdowns for the win. Boise State improved their perfect record to 4-0.

#2 The Wisconsin Badgers #13 defeated the Michigan Wolverines #11 35-14. It was the Badgers who wasted no time jumping way ahead of Michigan 28-0 in the first half. The Badgers quarterback Jack Coan threw for 128 yards, while running back Jonathan Taylor scored twice and ran 203 yards.

#3 The Florida Gators (3-0) just ran all day over the Tennessee Vols (1-2) all day 34-3. The game wasn’t even close and Gators quarterback Kyle Trask threw for 298 and two touchdowns. The Gators are going places.
