#1 The New York Yankees injuries are starting to adding up Giancarlo Stanton (elbows), DJ LeMahieu (calf injury) and now pitcher Luis Gil a starting pitcher has been diagnosed with a high grade lat strain in his right shoulder. With these injuries it’s got to have manager Aaron Boone concerned this early in spring training.

#2 The Houston Astros Jose Altuve is expected to play in left field this season. Altuve is an All Star and a three time MVP and has played second base in 1767 games. A gold glove winner in 2015 and 2020. The idea of putting Altuve in left was brought up when Alex Bregman was with the team but signed with the Boston Red Sox. The Astros will use Isaac Paredes at second base and play Altuve in left.

#3 Atlanta Braves catcher Sean Murphy will miss the beginning of the start of the season due to a rib injury. Murphy is an All Star and Gold Glove winner and the Braves announced that he will be on the Injured List for four to six week with a cracked rib on his left side. A big name out of the line up.

#4 The big news this week is Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred is considering lifting the lifetime ban against Pete Rose who has been banned from baseball since 1989 for betting on baseball. If reinstated will that also open the door for Joe Jackson who was accused of being in on the fix during the 1919 World Series. Jackson has the numbers to be a Hall of Famer.

#5 The Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles are finished with their litigation over TV rights that dates back to 2012 when MLB announced Monday the Nats will be freed up from their deal with Mid-Atlantic Sports Network after the 2025 season.

#1 Jessica, the Baltimore Orioles right hander Zach Eflin is out with a shoulder injury and was placed on the 15 day IL. Eflin was scheduled to pitch on Wednesday against the New York Mets to close out the series. Eflin felt shoulder soreness and had to sit that game out.

#2 After the Atlanta Braves third baseman Austin Riley broke his hand and said “I hate that I’m going to be out, not be out there competing with the guys. I also understand it’s part of the game. Injuries happen.” The Braves signed Gio Urshela who was released by the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. Urshela was hitting .243 with five home runs.

#3 New York Yankees pitcher Luis Gil left Tuesday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians in the fourth inning of a 9-5 loss. Gil has signaled for the trainer when he threw a change up to the Guardian Jose Ramirez and had to leave because of lower back tightness. Dr. David Trofa said that Gil would be reassessed again on Wednesday.

#4 Ten years ago former San Francisco Giants pitcher Johnny Cueto helped the Giants win a World Series. Fast forward Cueto will get the call at age 38 years on Wednesday night for the Los Angeles Angels. Angels manager Ron Washington called up Cueto on Tuesday and said that he hopes Cueto will stick around and also influence the younger players.

#5 Tuesday the Chicago Cubs Cody Bellinger hit a two run double and Danby Swanson hit a home run to help the Cubs defeat the Detroit Tigers 3-1. Bellinger was 2-4 and the Cubs got good pitching from Javier Assad 5.2 innings, allowing one run and six hits.

#1 The New York Yankees have a lot of history and rookie pitcher Luis Gil just added to another page to the history books with the most strikeouts thrown by a rookie with 14 against the Chicago White Sox in a 6-1 win.

#2 The Baltimore Orioles activated RHP Grayson Rodriguez from the 15 day IL who started against the Seattle Mariners on Saturday. Rodriguez came back from a shoulder inflammation injury. Rodriguez one of the keys to the Orioles pitching staff is 4-1 with a 3.71 ERA.

#3 Former Los Angeles Angels infielder David Fletcher and who is playing infield for the Atlanta Braves triple A affiliate has reportedly been placing bets with the same Los Angeles bookmaker Matthew Bowyer that Shohei Ohtani’s interpreter Ippei Mizuhara used. Fletcher’s close friend Colby Schultz who played in the Kansas City Royals farm system from 2018-2020 bet on baseball during his playing days. It was reported that Fletcher did not bet on baseball.

#4 On San Francisco Giants pitcher Blake Snell, Snell returned to pitch at the Giants triple A affiliate you might have heard of them the Sacramento Rivercats. Snell was out with a shoulder injury threw five innings of no hit baseball and struck out ten batters.

#5 The Chicago Cubs rookie pitcher Shota Imanaga got into the history books by recording the lowest ERA 0.84 for any rookie in his first nine starts since it was last done back in 1913. Looking at Imanaga reaction after striking out his seventh batter he was even amazed at himself.
