#1 New York Yankees pitching ace Gerrit Cole is having elbow problems and it’s reported he’s doubtful for opening day. Cole went under an MRI on Monday and his prognosis has not been determined. Yankees manager Aaron Boone has not determined who will start for the opener on Thu Mar 28th he’s looking at Carlos Rodon, Marcus Stroman, or Nestor Cortes.

#2 Former New York Mets outfielder Darryl Strawberry is recovering from a heart attack he suffered on Monday a day before his 62nd birthday. Met’s spokesman Jay Horwitz said that Strawberry is resting comfortably at SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital in St Charles MO.

#3 New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge underwent an MRI in his abdominal area tests showed there was no structural damage. Judge has not swung a bat yet but plans to towards the end of this week. Judge has participated in six Grapefruit League games so far. Judge struck out twice last Sunday in his most recent game.

#4 Boston Red Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito who pitched only two spring training games had to undergo right elbow surgery. Giolito had to travel to Alabama to get a second opinion from Dr. Jeffery R Dugas. Sox manager Alex Cora said he doesn’t know the extent of it yet but he’ll find out more soon. This is Giolito’s second major elbow surgery which was for Tommy John surgery Aug 31, 2021.

#5 San Francisco Giants pitcher Alex Cobb says his mind is not on his hip anymore. He says his arm feels good and said overall his pitching session was good. Cobb threw 32 pitches saying he felt tired but normal. This was Cobb’s second hip surgery. Manager Bob Melvin said that Cobb looks game ready and his recovery is remarkable.

#1 Former Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco 22, appeared at a prosecutor’s office with his two attorneys Teodosio Jáquez Encarnación and Juan Francisco Rodríguez Consoró, to answer to accusations of inappropriate relationships with minors. Details of the meeting was not forthcoming. He has been accused by two people and a third person came forward and that investigation is forthcoming. Franco was placed on leave last season. Franco signed an 11 year $182 million contract in Nov 2021 with the Rays.

#2 It’s the big deal that everybody in MLB is talking about the Atlanta Braves acquired pitcher Chris Sale and cash for infielder Vaughn Grissom who goes to the Boston Red Sox. Sale last season for the Sox was 6-5, ERA 4.30 with 125 strike outs. Grissom last season for the Braves hit .280, 21 hits, no home runs and 9 RBIs.

#3 The Red Sox picked up pitcher Lucas Giolito who pitched for the Cleveland Guardians last season. Giolito joins the Sox in a two year $38.5 million deal. Giolito a left hander will join the Sox starting rotation. Giolito went 8-15 with 4.88 ERA.

#4 Two Detroit Tigers scouts Gary Pellant 68 and Randall Johnson 67 have filed a law suit against the Tigers for age discrimination. Both Pellant and Johnson were fired by the Tigers after the 2020 season because of the false stereotype that older scouts lacked the scouting tools regarding analytics. There have been 51 of 83 older scouts of other MLB scouts who filed age discrimination suits against MLB for age discrimination over the same charges. The lawsuit mentioned that after Rob Manfred became Commissioner in 2015 there has been of recruiting younger scouts and doing away with the older scouts who were 60 and over.

#5 Last Friday Amuary you wrote about Cuban native and Oakland A’s pitching prospect Luis Morales who signed for $3 million last season. Morales from Cuba throws a fast ball that is in the triple digits. In Cuba he had been making $40-200 a month pitching. Morales defected and was caught by Cuban authorities in Guantanamo in the process of escaping the island, but he finally defected two years ago and here he is now with the A’s.

#1 Covid 19 has hit Cincinnati Reds pitcher Hunter Greene and he has been placed on the seven day Covid list with two other Reds pitchers Ben Lively and Fernando Cruz. Covid 19 cases have been on the rise and it was recommended that vaccines should be taken. The Reds were going good how does loosing Greene, Lively and Cruz impact the Reds.

#2 Stephen, Friday was the first day of the MLB expanded roster as the Philadelphia Phillies added left handed pitcher Ranger Suarez and outfielder Cristan Pache. Suarez had been out 15 days with a right hamstring strain and Pache had been out on the ten day IL with right elbow irritation. The Phils are in the hunt and have to be happy to get Suarez and Pache back on the active roster.

#3 The Los Angeles Angels a club that you will be seeing a little bit later tonight have called up six players to fill open positions infielder Kyren Paris, left hand pitcher Kolton Ingram, right hand pitchers Jimmy Herget, Gerardo Reyes, and Andrew Wantz, and infielder Michael Stefanic. The Angels replaced six players who were place on waivers.

#4 The Cleveland Guardians wasted no time they grabbed three of the waived players from the Angels, left handers Lucas Giolito and Matt Moore, and Rey Lopez. The Cincinnati Reds took outfielder Hunter Renfroe and pitcher Dominic Leone was picked up by the Seattle Mariners.

#5 MLB has opted to keep the pitch clock rules for the 2023 post season meaning the pitcher and the batter will be obligated to abide by the same time frame as they did during the 2023 regular season. MLB will not use the ghost runner for the post season.

On Headlines with Jessica:

#1 Minnesota Twins shortstop Kyle Farmer was hit in the jaw by Chicago White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito who threw a 91.6 MPH pitch. Farmer was laid out and had to get help up and was able to walk with assistance to the Twins clubhouse. Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said after the game Wednesday that Farmer will need to get his teeth realigned, Farmer had to have a laceration closed and was very lucky to avoid getting a broken jaw.

#2 MLB second base umpire Larry Vanover was hit in the head by a ball that was was thrown by Cleveland Guardians shortstop Andres Gimenez who intended to throw to home plate after the New York Yankees Kyle Higashioka hit it to Gimenez. Vanover was removed for the game for precautions and was taken to a local hospital for observation.

#3 A group called Big League Utah wants a big league expansion team in downtown Salt Lake City. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said that he would like to have 32 teams in the majors. Salt Lake City is one of three other cities who want an expansion team Nashville, Portland, and Charlotte. Oakland and Tampa Bay do not look like they’ll be getting stadium soon and they could be looking for a place to move to.

#4 Jessica, the Tampa Bay Rays continue to run away with it they picked up their 12th straight win against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday afternoon 9-2. The Rays remain unbeaten through 12 games. The Rays are getting the hitting, today they opened up in the bottom of the first with three runs and got good starting pitching from Rays starter Taj Bradley.

#5 The Los Angeles Angels have banned a beat writer who was on the Angels radio show “Beat Reporters Round Table.” Angels team president John Carpino wanted Athletic beat writer Sam Blum barred from coming back on the show because he was too critical of the Angels. The Angels are currently a .500 team. Carpino said that he was banned because he was too negative on the show and the show is supposed to be an upbeat program.
