Sacramento A’s relocation podcast: Badain says Fisher has the money for construction for A’s Las Vegas park

Sacramento A’s relocation podcast:

#1 Sacramento A’s team president Mark Badain announced that the A’s have the funding to cover at least $2 billion for the construction costs for the A’s Vegas ballpark.

#2 A’s owner John Fisher had said before the costs for his share of the construction would run as high as $2 billion. There is no guaranteed maximum price that has been set as of yet.

#3 Badain said at the Las Vegas Stadium Authority that the A’s will have a budget and they will build on it. That Fisher’s word is he will have the financing in place for that dollar amount.

#4 It was also reported that there are at least 200 contractors on site and they are moving ahead with the construction of the stadium. Construction crews are working in the southeast side of Las Vegas Blvd and Tropicana Ave. The crews have been at it since April. Almost 600 pilings are in the ground and there are multiple cranes that are on the site with concrete being poured.

#5 Badain said that 50 percent of the foundational work is done and that later he expects the concrete work to go vertical and that passerby can see the work over the ten foot wall on the 35 acre site that was the former home of the Tropicana Casino and Hotel.

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast Daniel Dullum:

#1 Reports from the A’s Las Vegas ballpark construction actual cement is being poured into the foundation of the dugout portion of the grounds.

#2 The pilings have been constructed where the cement has been poured a large pile of dirt sits in the middle of the construction site.

#3 The A’s have filed permits worth over $157 million that have been filed with Clark County. The permits allow the constructing of the concrete at the lowest level of the ballpark to the upper main concourse with the primary steelwork.

#4 There have been questions if A’s owner John Fisher has been able to come up with his share of the $1.75 billion construction cost. At the groundbreaking ceremony in July A’s team president Mark Badain said the A’s have the money or they wouldn’t be doing the groundbreaking.

#5 The A’s said that they would be scheduling a project update at the Las Vegas Stadium Authority on Aug 21st. Expected to attend are Las Vegas Stadium Convention and Authority CEO Steven Hill, A’s executive Sandy Dean, and Badain.

#1 Sacramento A’s owner John Fisher says that the cost of the Las Vegas ballpark will grow to $2 billion. Fisher. Fisher and the A’s had a deadline to meet last December to come up with their share of the construction costs at the tune of $1.75 billion but it’s still a question does John Fisher have the money even after the ground breaking on Monday.

#2 Even baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said he hoped that the shovels in the ground “puts to bed the doubt as to where they’re going to be in 2028.” Still at the Monday presser no one came out and said that the A’s have funded their share of the construction costs.

#3 Daniel, do you think that this press conference Monday was designed to quell any doubts that the media or the public may have that the A’s and the Las Vegas Stadium Authority are ready with the financials to move forward with the ballpark project.

#4 A’s executive Sandy Dean was asked if Fisher has the money for the construction costs. Then why would he have to sell the San Jose Earthquakes. Dean said that” the project is independent of the Earthquakes.”

#5 Manfred said regarding any shot of an expansion team possibility for Oakland could be in the future. Manfred was frustrated with how negotiations went with former Oakland Mayor Sheng that the way he feels now there would be no way there would ever be another MLB team in Oakland again. Manfred also he didn’t want to talk about potential expansion sites.

On That’s Amaury News and Commentary podcast:

#1 Amaury how big is it that the Texas Rangers signed catcher Kyle Higashioka for two years at $13.5 million with a mutual option for the 2027 season. Higashioka played for the San Diego Padres in 2024 hit .220, with 54 hits, 17 home runs and 45 RBIs.

#2 The Chicago Cubs signed pitcher Matthew Boyd. Boyd will join the Cubs starting rotation. This was the Cubs first big deal in the off season. Boyd who came back from Tommy John surgery was 2-2 with a 2.72 ERA last season. Boyd signs with the Cubs for two years at $29 million. Boyd 33, could earn up to $1 million in performance bonuses.

#3 In a letter to the Tampa Bay Rays from Pinellas County (Fla.) the cost to build a new ballpark would run $1.3 billion in a letter from the county. The Rays presidents Brian Auld and Matt Silverman said in a letter to the county that they would not agree to a deal for the new stadium. The Rays said they have spent more than $50 million on the new stadium but the county had suspended work on the entire project. The park was scheduled to be completed by 2028. The Rays are without a ballpark after Hurricane Milton destroyed the roof of the Tropicana and will play their regular season games at George Steinbrenner Field in Tampa Bay.

#4 Should the Tampa Bay Rays move out of Tampa Bay since the county and the owners can’t come to an agreement and where could they move to Nashville, Montreal, Charlotte, San Antonio, Vancouver or Mexico City?

#5 This coming Thu Dec 5th is the big Las Vegas Stadium Authority meeting regarding the financing for the A’s share of the construction costs for the ballpark at the Tropicana. The A’s said they would present four documents that would outline how the financing would proceed. Dec 5th is the drop dead date to come up with the financing for the Vegas A’s park as the A’s took one year to try and get their financing together. A’s owner John Fisher was reportedly getting financing together from his family to pay the $1.5 billion joined with the State of Nevada’s in put from SB1 at $380 million. Can the A’s make it happen on Thursday?
