#1 Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias has been charged with five misdemeanors of domestic violence charges. The charges were filed in Los Angeles Superior Court at the city attorney’s office on Monday. One count of assault and two counts of domestic battery involving a dating relationship. Urias was arrested back on Sep 3 for suspicion of felony domestic violence where eyewitnesses at LAFC MLS game saw Urias having an altercation with his wife. Urias was arrested and posted bail $50,000 the next day.

#2 Houston Astros left hand pitcher Framber Valdez was placed on those 15 day injured list due to elbow soreness. Astros manager Joe Espada said that Valdez will miss at least a couple of starts. Espada said that the club will be watching the inflammation and hopes that it will go down.

#3 Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher David Bednar a two time All Star has been struggling. Bednar a right hander blew a save opportunity on Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers who rallied in a 5-3 win. After the game Pirates first baseman Randy Tellez said after blowing the lead that it’s something you just don’t do and that as a team they have to do better.

#4 Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada was helped off the field after hitting a grounder and pulled up injured and injured his hip and fell short of the first base bag. Cleveland Guardians first baseman Josh Naylor tried to talk an comfort Moncada as he was on the ground in pain.

#5 Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story’s season is over after injuring his shoulder. Story will need surgery for a fractured glenoid. Baseball chief officer Craig Breslow said Story will be on the injured list for the next six weeks. Story was in a sling when he and his teammates were introduced at the pre game ceremonies.

#1 The Los Angeles Dodgers are feeling the pain, two time All Star pitcher Walker Buehler is out for the rest of the season. Buehler hasn’t pitched since August 2022 after having his second Tommy John surgery. Buehler talked it over with his family, team doctors, front office staff and said it would be best if he waited until next season to return.

#2 Last week Sunday Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias 27, was arrested for domestic violence and was released on $50,000 bond. This was Urias’ second domestic violence charge his first time was in 2019. It’s unlikely that Urias will ever pitch for the Dodgers again as his contract expires after this season.

#3 The Washington Nationals regret that press reports say that pitcher Stephen Strasburg will retire and that such an announcement was premature and that the Nats really wanted to be the ones to make such announcement. Strasburg had been suffering from thoracic outlet syndrome, which is common for pitchers on the downside of their careers.

#4 More Dodger injuries on Thursday against the Miami Marlins Mookie Betts injured his foot after hitting a first inning pitch off his foot. The injury took it’s time to creep up on Betts as Betts realized it in the seventh inning and was seen leaving Loan Depot Park on crutches the good news is x-rays show Betts didn’t suffer a fracture.

#5 Schools over Stadiums is considered the last hope for the Oakland A’s to stay in Oakland. Schools over Stadiums is an organization working with the Nevada State Education Association who are planning to put a petition together which will stop the public funding that will pay for an Las Vegas A’s ballpark. Schools over Stadiums argues that money should be spent on education than funding a ballpark. Right now NSEA is looking for funding to cover contractors to go out and get the petitions signed. The estimated cost to run an anti public ballpark funding campaign would run nearly $2 million.

#1 He grabbed his left side and he knew he had to leave the game the New York Yankees pitcher Luis Severino against the Milwaukee Brewers due to a left upper body oblique strain. Severino was coming off the mound and held his left side saying he felt a sharp pain like he was just shot. Severino most likely might have thrown his last pitch for the Yankees.

#2 The Atlanta Braves will be retiring Andruw Jones No.25 and are making the case for Jones’ bid to make the Hall of Fame. Jones had a .254 career batting average and had 434 career home runs. His best season was in 2005 when he finished the year with 51 home runs.

#3 The Cincinnati Reds third baseman Noelvi Marte was struck in the face before Saturday’s game by a warm up throw from Elly De La Cruz. Marte was distracted when starting pitcher Carson Spiers and catcher Tyler Stephenson were walking off the field and De La Cruz didn’t realize that Marte was distracted and the ball he threw hit Marte in the face giving him a cut. Marte was replaced at third base for Spencer Steer.

#4 Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Juilo Urias won’t be returning to the Dodgers rotation anytime soon after he was booked last Thursday for domestic violence. Urias and his girlfriend were outside at MLS Stadium when they had an argument over a cell phone. One of the fans at the stadium took a cell phone video of the physical altercation and Urias was arrested. This is Urias’ second domestic violence charge the first one was on 2019.

#5 More bad news for the Dodgers Mookie Betts is out with a foot injury after fouling a pitch off his foot on Thursday against the Miami Marlins. Betts left the LoanDepot Park on crutches and no time line for his absence has been disclosed. Betts had x-rays that showed no fractures. Also pitcher Walker Buheler will be out for the rest of the season. He still hasn’t recovered from his second Tommy John surgery.

Giants/Dodgers 2022 Is Here: What to know

The Dodgers-Giants rivalry got a lot more entrenched last season after the teams combined for 213 regular season wins and an incredible 5-game series in the NLDS. None other than Vin Scully proclaimed Game 5 as the biggest, single game in the century-plus series.

The Giants lost Game 5, and the Dodgers lost in the next round to the Braves, who won the World Series, not the Dodgers or the Giants. But the memories and excitement persist, how could they not?

“It was phenomenal. It was a lot of fun. I think it was probably fun for all the fans that got to witness that,” manager Gabe Kapler said of last year’s high-level duel.

So 2022 is here, the rivalry returns Tuesday in Dodger Stadium, and both teams are still plenty capable of ruining things for each other and winning it all. Let’s get caught up:

The Dodgers saw big names move in and out, and one big name stay put. Kenley Jansen, Corey Seager, Max Scherzer left the Dodgers, while Freddie Freeman got a generous deal to leave the Braves and come to LA. Clayton Kershaw turned down some offers, and opted not to retire. So far this season–his 15th in Los Angeles–he’s been up to old tricks. It’s a slightly younger, less experienced team, but still heralded as the Series favorite. More importantly, the Dodgers are so good offensively and defensively, no other team comes close. Not surprisingly, they lead MLB in run differential despite seven losses to date (+47).

The Giants didn’t act all crazy in free agency and worked the margins of their roster with a couple of low-profile upgrades. But the results aren’t bad: Through 22 games, the Giants have the highest scoring offense in baseball with nearly five runs a game, and they won 14 times.

Heading into the series, the Giants have to be worried about their personnel with a couple names returning and a sizeable group still injured. At least one outfielder, LaMonte Wade Jr. will return and Mike Yastrzemski is a possibility for Tuesday.

The Dodgers position group is completely healthy, while their pitching staff has some omissions. Blake Treinen, Dustin May, Andrew Heaney and David Price are all out, and none are expected this week.

The Giants get an opportunity to make an early impression with Carlos Rodon, the hottest performer on either roster. Rodon has struck out a franchise-record (for debut pitchers) 38 batters and won three times in four starts.

Young Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Julio Urías was the only pitcher in Major League Baseball among all 30 teams, this 2021 season to win 20 games; he ended with a record, 20-3, 2.96 ERA, started 32 games, pitched 185 2/3 innings, and struck out 195 hitters. However, the Mexican-born Urias was not among the three finalists for the coveted National League Cy Young Award. Is it because now victories are an antiquated way of judging a pitcher?

These were the three pitchers nominated for the Cy Young Award in the National League: Max Scherzer, who pitched for two teams this season, Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers, he finished with 15-4, 2.46 ERA, started 30 games, threw 179 1/3 innings, and struck out 236 batters.

In all fairness, he is a first-vote Hall of Famer. Philadelphia Phillies Zack Wheeler ended with a 14-10 record, 2.78 earned run average in 32 games he started, pitched 213 1/3 innings, and struck out 247. Corbin Burnes of the Milwaukee Brewers finished the season with an 11-5 record, 2.43 ERA, started 28 games, pitched 167 innings, and struck out 234.

As a broadcaster I do not have a vote. The people that vote are members of the BBWAA (Baseball Writers Association of America). I do have the utmost respect for them, some I have known and have been friends with for decades and worked with them.

To win 20 games during one season in today’s game is tantamount to winning 28 to 30 games years ago. Anybody that followed the postseason this year can see that one million pitchers were used, doesn’t matter if one is throwing a no-hitter after 5 innings, he is coming out for a reliever.

To be a starter doesn’t have the prestige it once had. But is not only the 20 wins, you cannot punish Urías because he pitched for a team that won over 100 games and was favorite to win the World Series again. I understand that a lot of the “logic” for this award goes to ‘innings pitched’ and in that case, Scherzer and Wheeler did pitch more innings than Julio Urías. It is (ironic and disingenuous) to give Innings Pitch that much weight when in today’s baseball starters do not work that much.

The beauty of baseball is that everybody has an opinion and a different point of view, (not to mention a bias for their team). I am not one that screams racism all the time, although I know, unfortunately, it still exists. And I do respect the votes by the baseball writers.

Maybe Julio can win 30 games next season and get the recognition he well deserves. The last 30 game-winner was Denny McLain of the Detroit Tigers, who in 1968 won 31 and lost 6. Today, the description for a starting pitcher has changed.

The winner will be announced live on MLB Network on November 17 at 3 PM Pacific time.
