Sacramento A’s relocation podcast Daniel Dullum:

#1 Daniel, so far no public disclosure or reporting indicates a completed “$100 million” payment in isolation.

#2 The pledge structure is more complex (equity, debt, public funds) rather than a simple lump sum.

#3 The reported pledges and financial commitments are much larger and intended to cover the full project cost, rather than a $100 million tranche.

#4 So, in short: No — there is no verified record that Fisher has made a standalone $100 million payment for the ballpark construction, at least not publicly disclosed.

#5 Fisher is working on raising additional capital via minority investors and private sources, which could reduce the Fisher-family share. But as of latest reports, the Fisher family is still expected to carry the bulk of the private financing.

#1 On Wednesday night at Sutter Health Park John Fisher who was walking from his seats on the luxury box level was booed at the end of the sixth inning from fans who he walked past.

#2 Fisher also walked on the field before the game and fans in Sacramento who are known for being laid back let the foul language fly at Fisher and one fan stood above the tunnel where Fisher was walking and said some extra obscenities pertaining his thoughts about the A’s relocation from Oakland and the A’s not committing to Sacramento.

#3 Daniel simply what would you say the fans are the most angriest with Fisher for his moving the A’s out of Oakland, not committing to the Sacramento fans, or fans believe he’s yanking their chain over the construction of the Las Vegas ballpark and how that was handled.

#4 Fisher who hardly appeared at any of the Oakland A’s games before they moved and had avoided being seen when in Oakland, has been at a number of A’s games at Sutter Health Park and even gave a rare interview with a Nevada paper regarding the Las Vegas ballpark and relocation.

#5 The A’s had the worst attendance during their series with the Tampa Bay Rays and players and fans have expressed that they are not happy seeing or playing Major League Baseball in a triple A park and they have laid that blame on Fisher.

#1 Tampa Bay Rays owner Stu Sternberg has reached an agreement with Florida developer Patrick Zalupski in principle on a deal to sell the Rays for $1.7 billion. The deal keeps the Rays in Tampa Bay and is expected to close in September. Zalupski is a homebuilder in Jacksonville and was a buyer who strongly believes in keeping the team in Tampa Bay.

#2 Amaury, Sternberg bought the Rays in 2004 for $200 million. After last year’s Hurricane Milton tore the roof off of Tropicana Field the Rays were forced to play their home games at the New York Yankees spring training facility at George M Steinbrenner Field. Zalupski plans to build a new ballpark and keep the club in Tampa Bay.

#3 Sternburg basically could not go forward with owning the team. Before the Hurricane Sternburg planned to build a new stadium at the Historic Gas Plant District and was planning to design a recreational retail and residential area in St Petersburg replacing the old Tropicana. That was all shot down after Sternburg realized the excess costs in repairing the Trop and later tearing it down to build the new park.

#4 Meanwhile the Sacramento A’s development for their new ballpark is still in question as A’s owner John Fisher is looking for someone to buy the MLS San Jose Earthquakes for $600 million to cover part of the costs of his construction costs. K Pop star Suga and former MLB pitcher Chan Ho Park are putting together $70 million as an investment into the A’s. Yet in still that may not be enough to cover the balance of the construction costs for the Las Vegas ballpark.

#5 If Fisher can not meet the costs of building the Las Vegas park and he stated that the park costs could go up from $1.75 billion to $2 billion if that proves too much could you see the other MLB owners putting the pressure on Fisher to sell much like they did with Sternburg?

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast Daniel Dullum:

#1 According to reports Sacramento A’s owner John Fisher still hasn’t spent the money for the Las Vegas ballpark at the old Tropicana so he could get the $380 million in Nevada State public funds. SB1 was approved to pay for part of the A’s Vegas park going on two years now.

#2 Fisher said after the A’s ground breaking at the Tropicana that the cost of construction for the new park will now run up to $2 billion and according to reports Fisher doesn’t financially have anything near $1 billion despite being worth $3 billion.

#3 John Fisher and his family are not going to spend their own money namely the $1.75 billion out of pocket for the ballpark project but are trying to confirm loans from US Bank, Goldman Sachs, investments from K Pop star Suga, former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Chan Ho Park and sale of his MLS team the San Jose Earthquakes.

#4 It was also reported at the ground break this month in Vegas that the two cranes that were pictured behind Fisher while he was speaking to the media there were rented cranes as props and they were never going to be in use that outside of moving dirt around there is nothing really seriously happening at the old Tropicana property in terms of getting a foundation started.

#5 Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred who was at the groundbreaking holding a shovel and putting it in the dirt held in a baseball diamond tray said he was confident that the project would go through but critics after the ground breaking said that Manfred should have made sure everything was covered before committing the A’s to Las Vegas but that didn’t happen and the ground breaking looks like a farce.

#1 Sacramento A’s owner John Fisher says that the cost of the Las Vegas ballpark will grow to $2 billion. Fisher. Fisher and the A’s had a deadline to meet last December to come up with their share of the construction costs at the tune of $1.75 billion but it’s still a question does John Fisher have the money even after the ground breaking on Monday.

#2 Even baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said he hoped that the shovels in the ground “puts to bed the doubt as to where they’re going to be in 2028.” Still at the Monday presser no one came out and said that the A’s have funded their share of the construction costs.

#3 Daniel, do you think that this press conference Monday was designed to quell any doubts that the media or the public may have that the A’s and the Las Vegas Stadium Authority are ready with the financials to move forward with the ballpark project.

#4 A’s executive Sandy Dean was asked if Fisher has the money for the construction costs. Then why would he have to sell the San Jose Earthquakes. Dean said that” the project is independent of the Earthquakes.”

#5 Manfred said regarding any shot of an expansion team possibility for Oakland could be in the future. Manfred was frustrated with how negotiations went with former Oakland Mayor Sheng that the way he feels now there would be no way there would ever be another MLB team in Oakland again. Manfred also he didn’t want to talk about potential expansion sites.

Does Anybody Care about the A’s in Sacramento?

Let’s say you have your eyes on that brand new car you dream of, and you are “almost sure” you are going to buy it in 2028 because you just put your other car (Soccer Team)for sale, but in the meantime, you need another vehicle.

For the A’s owner, West Sacramento Sutter Health Park, it’s like leasing an Avis car for a couple of years, hoping to buy a brand-new car in a few years in Las Vegas. You do not care much for maintaining the Avis lease; you are only interested in being practical, since you are not going to buy it anyway.

Sacramento’s 15 minutes of Major League fame have been cut to 5 minutes, all the hype a month before the season was more “sizzle than steak:”, in the stadium, they call it “all foam no beer” and in the cattle areas of California, “All hat no cattle”.

The A’s announced in January that Opening Day tickets were sold out, despite offering $25 lawn seats the night of the game. The team announced a sold-out crowd of 12,119 fans at the home opener. However, team officials said Sutter Health Park’s total capacity is 13,416.

The Oakland A’s fans in Sacramento (the number is unknown) are disappointed by the team’s temporary move to Sutter Health Park, expressing feelings of betrayal and a sense of disconnection from the team in its new temporary home.

They miss the Oakland atmosphere and feel the team is not embracing Sacramento. Some Sacramento fans, however, are excited to have a Major League team in their city, even if it’s just for a temporary period, but the team also couldn’t care less about Sacramento.

To the best of my knowledge, the A’s are not even recognized by the Sacramento Chamber of Commerce, the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, or the Sacramento Asian Chamber of Commerce. Neither did the A’s approach them.

#1 Lots speeches made at the Sacramento A’s and future Las Vegas A’s ground breaking at the former Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

#2 Amongst some of the speakers John Fisher who stated that he was excited to get this far to having shovels in the ground and that he thanked MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred for help making the relocation of the A’s a reality.

#3 Fisher was asked about the sale of his MLS soccer team the San Jose Earthquakes and how that sale will make the difference in paying for the new A’s Las Vegas stadium and help make up for Fisher’s share of the construction costs at $1.75 billion.

#4 Was there any questions raised regarding regret that the A’s had left Oakland or was this a total turn the page event and it was never brought up and it’s onto the next step in developing the Las Vegas ballpark and bringing Major League Baseball.

#5 Manfred had a chance to speak and wanted address what he wanted in getting the A’s a new ballpark something he had been working on since he took over as baseball commissioner.

#1 Daniel, the Athletics groundbreaking will be held at the old Tropicana Casino and Hotel on Monday June 23 at 8:00AM. Some question the time of the ribbon cutting being unusually early by press conference standards.

#2 Some said it could be a tactic to keep the amount of press away that will ask about A’s owner John Fisher’s construction costs and if he paid his share of the $1.75 billion yet?

#3 Do you look at this groundbreaking as a closer step to getting the stadium constructed or is this ceremony being done to keep the pressure off of the Las Vegas Stadium Authority when questioned when are there going to be shovels in the ground.

#3 A’s president Mark Badain said that construction for the Vegas ballpark started back in April and the A’s wanted to make Mon Jun 23rd ribbon cutting a celebration for the A’s and local officials.

#4 VIPs expected to attend the groundbreaking Mon Jun 23rd, A’s owner John Fisher, Badain, Las Vegas Stadium Authority president Steven Hill, Nevada State Legislature, members of the Clark County Commission and Governor Joe Lombardo.

#5 The Stadium Authority report says the construction of the park will take 32 months and is expected to be ready opening day 2028.

#1 You might have heard that groundbreaking at the Las Vegas Tropicana for the A’s new Las Vegas ballpark was to happen last April, A’s president Mark Badain said ground had already been broken, now the A’s have said the date for a ground breaking will take Jun 24, 2025.

#2 The one question that has been asked “what happens if the A’s ballpark isn’t built?” Will that put the project in jeopardy and could that end any prospect for the A’s Las Vegas ballpark.

#3 John Fisher whose family owns the GAP have seen GAP stock fallen 15% this past week that could set back the A’s and is in need of $1.75 billion for the construction share for the Vegas ballpark.

#4 Some critics really feel the A’s might not get the project off the ground period and they would have to look at other options where to play. The A’s won’t return to Sacramento and if Vegas doesn’t get done where could they wind up?

#5 The A’s after losing 11 straight games and then losing nine in a row and then winning two in a row will play out the string as they are 11.5 games behind first place and still haven’t sold out a game yet at Sutter Health?
