#1 How much of an impact was the decision of the officials at the Kentucky Derby to eliminate and disqualify Maximum Security and allow Country House the winner? The first time a winning horse has ever been disqualified in 145 years.

#2 With the Golden State Warriors, you never know what team is going to show up, They handled the Houston Rockets in first two games with a four-point win in Game 1 and a six-point win in Game 2, but it was Game 3 where they lost to the Rockets by five and lost another one in game 4 on Wednesday night as the series is tied 2-2.

#3 After having two comeback victories against the Cincinnati Reds during their four-game series, the San Francisco Giants split with the Reds, losing Monday. Giants starter Drew Pomeranz got lit up in 1.2 innings, nine hits and seven runs. While striking out two batters, Pomeranz continues to labor in the 12-4 loss.

#4 The LPGA Mediheal Championship was held at Lake Merced in Daly City from April 29th through May 5th. The leaderboard showed Sei Young Kim taking the $270,000 winnings finishing on top with a par 281 on Sunday.

#5 The San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche battled in Game 6. The Avs came away with a 4-3 win to tie the series in overtime 3-3, to force a Game 7, bringing the game back to San Jose.

Rockets hold on to defeat Warriors 112-108, even series 2-2

Game 4 of the best-of-seven series between the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors was another thriller. The Rockets took control of the game in the second quarter as they outscored the Warriors 36-26 to finish the first half of play with a seven-point lead 61-54. The Warriors, who usually play so well well in the third period, couldn’t outscore the Rockets and fell behind by nine after three periods of play. The Rockets led by 17 in the third, but the Warriors woke up and cut the deficit to nine.

For the second game in a row, the Rockets outplayed the Warriors on both ends of the court for three periods. James Harden and crew were knocking down three-point shots. P.J. Tucker was a force on defense, and he also made a clutch three-pointer. Eric Gordon continued his hot shooting, and the Rockets continued to make rebounds while on offense. Steph Curry, who had 13 points in the first half, could not buy a bucket until late in the third quarter.

The Warriors trailed by 13, 101-88. The Warriors stiffened on defense and the offense came alive, and they clawed their way back to trail by two 110-108 when Curry connected on a three. James Harden made one free throw, and Houston led by three. The Warriors had a chance to tie. Kevin Durant and Steph Curry failed to make a three. Houston made one more free throw and won Game 4 by a final of 112-108 to tie the series at two games apiece.

Game Notes and Stats: The Rockets made 17 threes while the Warriors connected on eight. The 51-24 advantage was more than enough to win the game for Houston. The Warriors made 42 shots and were 46,7% from the floor. The Rockets made 38, and they shot 43.8%. The 27-point advantage from three-point range was the difference.

Kevin Durant led the Warriors with 24. Curry had 30, but was four for 14 from behind the three-point arc. Klay Thompson had 11, Draymond Green had a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards. Andre Iguodala knocked down seven and had eight rebounds.

Jame Harden was the man once again for Houston The Beard tallied 38 points and he made six three-point shots in 17 tries. He also had a double-double as he pulled down 10 rebounds. Eric Gordon had 20, and he hit two threes. P. J. Tucker tallied 17, and he had 10 rebounds for another double-double. Chris Paul had 13, and Clint Capela added six. Austin Rivers, coming off the bench, kicked in with 10.

The Rockets outrebounded the Warriors 50-43 and had 13 offensive rebounds. The Warriors had eight.

Game 5 will be played at Oracle Arena Wednesday night at Oracle Arena. Game time will be at 7:30 pm.

Warriors fall to Rockets 126-121 in OT, but still lead series 2-1

There is nothing like playoff basketball. The Warriors and Rockets played a thriller Saturday night at the Toyota Center.

It was a game the Rockets needed. If they lost, they would have trailed 3-0 and no team in NBA history has come back trailing 3-0. The Warriors came back from a 13-point deficit in the third quarter, and the game ended tied 112-112 after 48 minutes of play. The Rockets outscored the Warriors 14-9 in the five-minute overtime period to come away with a 126-121 win. The Warriors still lead the series 2-1.

The game saw the Rockets grab the lead in the second period. The Warriors scored just one point in a little over four minutes to start the second period. The Rockets, who trailed by nine in the first period, ended the second period with a nine-point lead. Houston’s Eric Gordon killed the Warriors as he was making 3-point shots that put the Rockets in the lead. The Rockets made six 3-pointers in the first half, and the Warriors made just three 3s. The Rockets led 58-49 at the halfway point.

The Rockets increased the lead to 83-70 late in the third quarter. The Warriors Kevin Durant took control of the game with the help from Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala, and Klay Thompson. The Warriors went on a 24-10 run to take a 94-93 lead after Durant knocked down a three. The two teams swapped the lead several times in the final stanza. Thompson kicked in with 10 points to keep the Warriors in the game. The Warriors led by two 112-110, but the Rockets scored the last two points of the quarter to force overtime. The Rockets had a chance to win, but Thompson forced a jump ball when he stopped Chris Paul’s drive to the basket with just 1.5 seconds left.

The Rockets scored the first basket in overtime, and the Warriors were never able to take the lead. With Houston leading 114-113, Eric Gordon hit a three. Andre Iguodala knocked down a three to make it 117-116. Houston increased the lead to 121-118. The Warriors failed to score, and Houston’s James Harden buried a three to put the Rockets up by six. Durant was fouled attempting a three, and made all three free throws to bring the Warriors close 124-121. Harden made the final bucket of the night.

Game Notes and Stats: The Warriors’ starting five scored 114 points, and their bench contributed only seven points in the loss. Kevin Durant led the team with 46 points. Draymond Green had another outstanding game as he finished with a triple-double of 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. Andre Iguodala finished with 16 points and knocked down three threes. Steph Curry had 17 and Klay Thompson had 16.

James Harden led the Rockets with 41. He hit five threes. Eric Gordon was second on the Rockets with 30. He made seven threes. Chris Paul had 13. Clint Capela had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. P.J.Tucker was outstanding on defense and scored seven points late in the game to help Houston win.

The Warriors shot 44.2% from the floor. They were 14 for 33 from three-point range. The Rockets shot 48.4% from the floor and made 18 threes in 43 tries. The Rockets outrebounded the Warriors 55-35. They had 17 offensive rebounds, and the Warriors made seven. The Warriors protected the ball well as they committed only eight turnovers. The Rockets turned the ball over 13 times.

Game 4 will be in Houston Monday night. Play will start at 6:30 pm.

Warriors defeat the Rockets 115-109 to lead the series 2-0

The Golden State Warriors, using the Hampton’s Five lineup for the second game in a row, held on to beat the Houston Rockets 115-109.

The Warriors led from start to finish. They caused the Rockets to commit 13 turnovers in the first half, and they put 20 points on the board as a result. The Rockets, to their credit, stayed close as they made 10 three-pointers in the first half. The Warriors made just four.

Steph Curry had to leave the game in the second quarter when he injured his left hand trying to swat a shot attempt by Clint Capela. Curry went to the locker room for an x-ray and treatment. Nothing was broken, but he dislocated his middle finger on his left hand. Curry returned to action but appeared to be having trouble shooting the basketball as two fingers on his left hand were taped. James Harden also went to the locker room for treatment. Harden was struck in his left eye by Draymond Green. There was no foul on the play, and Draymond talked to Harden telling him that it was not intentional. Harden returned later after having some difficulty with his vision.

The Warriors won the first quarter 29-20. They were playing defense, and the offense was percolating. The Rockets played the Warriors even in the second quarter. Austin Rivers, filling in for Harden, kept the Rockets in the game as he knocked down three threes and finished the first half with 11. Clint Capela played much better Tuesday night. He ended the first half with seven points and seven rebounds.

The Warriors led by nine 58-49 at the end of the first half. The Rockets made 10 threes good for 30 points and kept themselves in the game.

Klay Thompson led the Warriors with 13 points. Kevin Durant had 12 points, Draymond Green had seven points and seven boards, Steph Curry had 10 points, and Andre Iguodala had 10 points.

James Harden led the Rockets with 12 points. Chris Paul had eight points, P.J. Tucker had six points, and Eric Gordon, who scored 27 on Sunday, was held to two points.

In the third quarter, the Rockets outscored the Warriorss 26-24 to finish the quarter trailing by seven 82-75. The Rockets trailed by 15 until they went on an 8-0 run at the end of the period. The Rockets cut the lead to four 84-80, but Shaun Livingston came through with two clutch baskets and the Warriors led 88-80.

The Rockets kept coming back. They trailed 93-90, but Steph Curry hit a three and Andre Iguodala followed with a bucket. Klay Thompson also hit a deuce, and the Warriors led 100-90 with 4:45 left to play. The Warriorss increased the lead to 12 104-92 as they went on an 11-2 run. James Harden refused to quit. Harden’s eye was bothering him all night long, but he kept attacking. He continued to drive the lane, and when he was bottled up, he tried to make a three-point shot. The Warriors were able to hang on to beat the Rockets by a final of 115-109.

Game Notes: All five Warrior starters were in double figures. Draymond Green had a double-double with 15 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists. Kevin Durant led the team with 29. Durant made three threes in seven tries. Klay Thompson had 21. Thompson also made three threes. Thompson made two threes in a row in the third quarter that helped the Warriors maintain their lead. Steph Curry finished with 20. Curry also made three threes and was 3 for 13 in that department. Andre Iguodala tallied 16 and helped out with two threes.

James Harden led the Rockets with 29 points. Chris Paul had 18 points, Eric Gordon had 15 points, Clint Capela had 14 points and P.J.Tucker had 13 points. The Rockets committed four turnovers in the second half.

The team stats looked like this: The Rockets were 36 for 77 from the floor. The Warriors took 14 more shots and were 42 for 91. The Rockets made 17 threes. The Warriors made 11. The Warriors outrebounded the Rockets 46-41 and had 18 offensive boards while Houston’s total was 10. The Warriors had 10 steals and five blocked shots.

The referees did an outstanding job Tuesday night, and neither team appeared to criticize the crew that worked Game 2 of the series.

Up Next: Game 3 of the best of seven series will be played in Houston on Saturday. Game time will be at 5:30 pm. The three-day layoff will give the players a chance to get some rest after the grueling first two games of the series.

Warriors get past Rockets 104-100 in Game 1

There was no rest for the weary Golden State Warriors, whose second round opponent was the Houston Rockets, who reportedly arrived to San Francisco early. The Warriors, however, were determined to defeat the Rockets — and they did just that in Game 1 at Oracle Arena on Sunday afternoon.

The Warriors’ starting five was Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala. Curry (right ankle sprain) and Thompson (right ankle sprain) were available to play Sunday.

The Warriors got their game faces on and headed out onto the hardwood to shoot some hoops. There was a scoreless tie up until 11:47 of the first quarter. Andre Iguodala made a pass to Draymond Green, who made the first bucket of the game.

Kevin Durant made a field goal midway through the first quarter. With the field goal, Durant (1,248 points) passed Wilt Chamberlain (1,246) for fifth place on the Warriors’ all-time postseason scoring list.

Draymond Green drove inside and got the ball into the net to extend the Warriors’ lead to 14-9 with 6:13 left in the first quarter. Kevin Durant joined the three-pointer party by hitting a 3 for a 28-19 lead with just five seconds left in the first. The Warriors led 28-19 at the end of the first.

The Warriors had a slim, four-point lead late in the second quarter. But Steph Curry changed that with a 3 to extend the Warriors’ lead to 43-36 with 5:25 left in the second. Draymond Green and Kevin Durant teamed up to add some buckets into the mix. The Warriors took a 53-53 tie to the locker room at the break.

Kevin Durant displayed his tremendous defensive skills in the third quarter. Durant knocked the ball out of the air as soon as James Harden tried to put it into the net. That was quite a way for Durant to say “no.”

Also, plenty of ball movement led to buckets for the Warriors. The Warriors led 83-76 at the end of the third.

The Warriors were “locked in” in the fourth quarter. Despite being outscored 24-21, Golden State had winning on their minds. Steph Curry made a pass to Kevin Durant, who made a one-footer that was good and put the Warriors up 94-91 with 4:36 left in the fourth. With the point, Durant passed Larry Bird (3,897) for 11th on the NBA Playoffs’ all-time career scoring list.

The Warriors trailed by two late in the fourth quarter. However, Steph Curry made it 103-98 in favor of the Warriors with a three with 24.4 seconds left in the fourth. That was quite a bang that got Curry fired up. The Warriors won Game 1 by a final score of 104-101.

Draymond Green stuffed the Warriors’ stat sheets with 14 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and was 7-9 FG. The Warriors’ Statline of the Game was presented by Zoom.

The Warriors (1-0) and Rockets (0-1) face each other in Game 2 on Tuesday night at 7:30 pm PT.

Rockets make it “rain” 3-pointers, crush the Kings 130-105 on Tuesday night

SACRAMENTO — The Sacramento Kings goal of finishing the season with a 41-41 record took a serious hit on Tuesday night when the Houston Rockets beat them 130-105 at the Golden 1 Center. The young, upstart Kings never held a lead in the game. The win gave Houston a four-game season-series sweep over Sacramento.

In his postgame comments, Kings head coach Dave Joerger noted that the Rockets have beat his team by over 20 points on average in all four games this season. He later would point out that the Rockets as a team are staffed with great players.

Why Did the Kings Lose?

Sacramento lost the game because they could not shut down the dynamic 3-point shooting of the Rockets. Houston literally made it “rain” 3-pointers at they attempted 61 shots from behind the arc and hit 26 of them. The 26 made 3-point shots tied the Rockets NBA record for most 3-point shots made in a game that they set against the Wizards back on December 19, 2018, at home in Houston.

The Rockets made 46 of their 94 field goal attempts (48.9%) in the contest. They converted 26 of their 61 3-point field goal attempts (42.6%). Yes, you are reading that correctly. The majority of the Rockets’ field goals made and attempts were from long range. Houston was very happy to trade 3-point baskets for Kings 2-point baskets all night long.

The Kings shot 44.2-percent overall (42/95) and went 7-for-23 (30.4%) from downtown.

Dave Joerger was not happy after the game

“We did not come with the mental or physical attitude of playing with some force and (weren’t) mentally locked in enough. We can’t play that way. We’re better than that. That’s disappointing if we had a hangover from a long trip – a bunch of games – young guys – but we cannot let go of the rope and we’re not going to.”

Kings (38-40)

  • Buddy Hield was the Kings leading scorer with 20 points. He shot 8-for-16 and four of his field goals were 3-pointers. Hield also grabbed seven rebounds and added five assists.
  • Marvin Bagley III put 19 points up on the board to go with eight rebounds.
  • Nemanja Bjelica scored 12 points and went 6-for-7 from the floor.
  • Sacramento outrebounded Houston 51-43.

  • James Harden was the leading scorer in the game with 36 points, and he made it a double-double by dishing out 10 assists. He went 12-for-19 shooting and seven of those buckets were 3-pointers.
  • Eric Gordon and Danuel House, Jr. each scored 19 points for the visiting Rockets.
  • Chris Paul scored seven points and distributed 12 dimes.
  • Kenneth Faried posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Kings return to action on Thursday night when they will host the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Rockets knock Kings out of playoffs with 119-108 win

The Sacramento Kings saw their slim playoff hopes officially dashed on Saturday, as they were downed by the Houston Rockets, 119-108, inside of Houston’s Toyota Center.

The team has been feisty all season and held on to their postseason chances as long as they could, even on Saturday. Sacramento entered the fourth quarter with the lead, but they were outscored 28-15 in the final stanza as their fate was sealed.

The Rockets, meanwhile, are still fighting for one of the top spots in the Western Conference postseason picture to get home-court advantage for at least the first round. Houston is currently in the third spot with a 49-28 mark, three games behind Golden State and Denver, who are tied for the top spot in the West.

James Harden recorded a triple-double in spearheading the win, scoring 50 points while making 13 of his 31 shots in the process, to go along with 11 rebounds and 10 assists.

Clint Capela put up 24 points while going 10-of-13 from the field and also pulled down 15 rebounds, while Chris Paul had 22 points and five assists.

The Kings had a couple of guys get a double-double in the loss. Marvin Bagley III had 20 points and 12 rebounds – seven of those coming on the offensive end – while making 10 of his 20 field-goal attempts. Meanwhile, De’Aaron Fox scored 18 points and handed out 10 assists, while making four of his seven 3-point attempts.

Bogdan Bogdanovic just missed a triple-double while coming off the bench, leading the Kings with 24 points while pulling down nine rebounds with eight assists.

The Kings next play the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday at 4:00 pm PT.

Warriors, without Kevin Durant, win a thriller over the Rockets 106-104

The Golden State Warriors broke two streaks Wednesday night as they beat the red-hot Houston Rockets 106-104 in the Toyota Center. The first streak they snapped was the three-game winning streak Houston had over Golden State, and they snapped Houston’s nine-game winning streak. The Warriors had to figure out a way to do it without the services of Kevin Durant, who suffered a bone contusion on his ankle Sunday night in the loss to the Phoenix Suns. Warriors’ head coach, Steve Kerr, inserted Andre Iguodala into the starting lineup to replace Durant. The Warriors needed the Splash Brothers, Klay Thompson and Steph Curry, to be at their best to win. Thompson and Curry did well, and DeMarcus Cousins came through with a season-high 27 points and was able to contain the Rockets’ big man, Clint Capela.

The Warriors needed to get off to a good start in the first quarter. They outscored the Rockets 33-23 as Curry knocked down 13 points in the first 12 minutes. The Warriors had an early 15-7 lead, but the Rockets went on an 8-0 run to tie the game at 15. The Warriors responded with a 14-2 run to lead 29-17. Curry and Kevon Looney each made a two-point bucket to increase the lead to 33-23.

The Warriors’ second unit played well early in the second quarter. Quinn Cook, DeMarcus Cousins, and Klay Thompson upped the lead to 46-34. The Rockets, at this point in the game, came to life and charged back. They tied the game at 52 before Steph made a basket and the first half ended with Golden State leading 54-52. Thompson led the Warriors with 16. Curry had 15 and Cousins had 7. Boogie also had five boards and six assists. James Harden and Chris Paul led the Houston attack with 16 each. Capela had 8. The W’s bench outscored the Rockets’ bench 11-5.

In the third quarter, DeMarcus Cousins was a force. He, as mentioned earlier, put a lid on Clint Capela’s game. He scored ten points in the period to keep the Warriors ahead. Klay and Steph were on target, too. Kevon Looney was magnificent on defense in the quarter, and he made a key bucket late in the period. The Warriors outscored Houston 31-16 and finished with a seven-point advantage 85-78 after three-quarters of action.

The Warriors used the second unit with Cousins and Thompson to start the fourth quarter. Rockets’ coach, Mike D’Antoni also had his starter, James Harden, resting on the bench. Cousins knocked down another 10 points to give the Warriors the lead 102-89. Harden re-entered the game at this point. Houston refused to cave, and their defense stifled the Warriors as they climbed back into the game. They kept chipping away at the Warrior lead and outscored the Warriors 11-2 to make it 104-100 with 47 seconds left to play.  Houston connected on a three, and now it was a one-point game 104-103. Steph made a bucket to increase the lead to 106-103 with 8 seconds remaining to play. After a timeout, Kerr told his players to make to foul either Harden or Chris Paul and not let them attempt a three-point shot. The Warriors fouled Harden. He made the first free throw and intentionally missed the second in an attempt to get the rebound and make a basket to tie the game. The strategy failed, and the Warriors won 106-104.

Game Notes and Stats: Kevin Durant rested his ankle on Wednesday and the Warriors hope that he will return to action Saturday night when they play the Thunder in Oklahoma City.

With the win, the Warriors improve to 46-21. Houston falls to 42-26. If the teams were to meet in the playoffs, the Warriors would have the home-court advantage unless the teams end the season with the same record. In that case, the Rockets would have home court as they beat the Warriors 3-1 for the season.

Klay Thompson led the Warriors with 30 points. He made 5 three-point shots in 10 attempts. DeMarcus Cousins excelled on offense with a season-high 27 points. He had 8 rebounds and 7 assists in his best performance with Golden State. Curry had 24 points and connected on 3 threes in nine attempts. The Warriors bench kicked in with 20. James Harden led Houston with 29.  Harden connected on 2 threes in 12 attempts. Chris Paul had 24. Eric Gordon pitched in with 17, and he made 3 threes for the Rockets. Capela had a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards. The Houston bench added 18.

The Warriors shot 49.4% from the floor. The made 12 threes, They were 10-for-10 from the charity stripe. They outrebounded Houston 44-31. The Rockets had 13 more free throws as Harden, and Chris Paul know how to draw fouls as they drive to the basket.
