#1 Cleveland Slade Cecconi pitched seven innings his longest this season. Emmanuel Clase got out of a bases loaded situation in the ninth inning as the Guardians hung on to beat the Sacramento A’s to take the three game series Sunday.

#2 The A’s Tyler Soderstrom and JJ Bleday got a walk and singles off Clase as the bases were loaded as Clase got out of it for his second straight save for his 28th save.

#3 A’s starter JP Sears continues to struggle for Sacramento allowing three runs, seven hits, in five innings. Sears drops his record to 1-5 in his last eight starts.

#1 Amaury, San Francisco Giant third baseman Matt Chapman has gone on the ten day IL due to a hand injury after diving hard into first base at Oracle Park against the Atlanta Braves on Sunday. Chapman said he was hopeful that he could return before the All Star break. Chapman was hitting .243, 12 home runs, 30 RBIs, in 65 games.

#2 San Francisco Giants have named Camilo Doval as their closer after Doval had been replaced by Ryan Walker as the closer. Doval has a respectable record of 3-1 ERA 1.50 with 30 strikeouts to his credit. Doval had struggled in closing some games but has shown his confidence has returned.

#3 The Sacramento A’s have developed some good young talent who are in their line up the A’s centerfielder Denzel Clarke who made a spectacular back handed catch landing on top of the fence and the landing feet first in front on the track and showing some excited emotion last Monday night in Anaheim.

#4 The A’s are getting great hitting out of young Jacob Wilson. Wilson has been key in two of the A’s wins against the Baltimore Orioles last weekend in Sacramento and is hitting .366, eight home runs and 38 RBIs. Wilson is currently out of the A’s line up missing games on Monday and Tuesday nights due to hamstring tightness.

#5 For the first time since 2013 the Detroit Tigers are 20 games over .500 thanks to Spencer Torkelson who hit a two run home run to put the Tigers over the Baltimore Orioles 5-3 on Tuesday night. The Tigers are now 44-24. The Tigers in former manager Jim Leyland’s final year as manager finished the 2013 season at 93-69.

#1 Despite a more productive offense, the San Francisco Giants (31-25) got swept by the Detroit Tigers (37-20) losing game three 4-3 on Wednesday.

#2 Giants Heliot Ramos had the only home run of the game which scored two runs. Taking a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Giants were looking pretty good.

#3 It all came crashing down when the Tigers put four runs up on the scoreboard in the fifth taking the 4-3 lead that would be the final.

#4 In the fifth inning as eight Detroit batters came to the plate. A couple of runs scored when Colt Keith doubled Jake Rogers and Kerry Carpenter home in a Detroit rally that was just getting started with no outs.

#5 The Giants have the day off Thursday but are back at it again in Miami on Friday. The Giants will start Kyle Harrison (0-1, ERA 3.86) and for the Marlins Cal Quantrill (3-4 ERA 6.09) first pitch 4:10pm PDT.

Lack of Hitting Continues to Plague Giants Losing to Detroit 3-1 in Game Two

Game Two between the San Francisco Giants (31-24) and the Detroit Tigers (36-20) looked very much like game one. The Giants only scored in one inning, the ninth inning , after the Tigers had taken a 3-0 lead after the three opening innings.

It was another tough loss for pitcher Logan Webb. He did strikeout ten batters but the Giants continued to struggle at the plate, they’re bats on standby for some time now as they continue to search for answers in a 3-1 loss at Comerica Park in Detroit on Tuesday night.

A windy day in Detroit were the conditions that the Giants had to deal with on Tuesday of their series with the Tigers. San Francisco lost Monday by the score of 3-1.

In game after game, the Giants have not had a great deal of offense despite continuing to win games here and there. It is starting to catch up with them as the lost again on Tuesday and they have to figure this out as their win/loss record continues to plummet.

The Giants starter Logan Webb just couldn’t hold those Tigers pitching six innings allowing seven hits, and all of the Tigers three runs was all they needed. Starting pitcher for the Tigers Jack Flaherty got the win pitching six innings allowing just two hits, no earned runs, one walk and struck eight.

This game did not go as planned for the Giants. The Tigers scored in the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead. Riley Greene doubled in the first inning to get started for Detroit and Gleyber Torres scored on that hit for the early 1-0 lead.

It did not stop there. Wenceel Perez came to the plate and homered in his first at-bat in his season debut, a solo home run, extending the Detroit lead to 2-0. In the third inning Riley Greene had his second hit of the game, a single, driving in Colt Keith for a 3-0 lead. Detroit would not score for the rest of the game.

The Giants trailed early but there were still six innings of baseball left for a comeback. While the Giants had a lot of game left their problematic woes at the plate persisted and they did not score a single run through the first eight innings.

They finally got up on the scoreboard in the ninth inning but it was far too little too late. Wilmer Flores, who has been consistently good at the plate doubled Heliot Ramos home for the only run San Francisco would score in the game. The final was 3-1 in favor of Detroit as the Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the series looking for a sweep Wednesday.

Tiger pitcher Jack Flaherty threw six scoreless innings. He finished allowing two hits, a walk and eight strikeouts. His ERA improved to 3.94 as the Tigers won their third game in a row. He retired the last 11 batters he faced before being relieved by Chase Lee.

It was another tough game for San Francisco starting pitcher Logan Webb. He allowed seven hits, three runs, one walk and ten strikeouts through six innings. He was relieved by Tristan Beck who finished the game in the losing effort. Manager Bob Melvin was ejected in the fifth inning for arguing balls and strikes. All-around it was a rough outing for the Giants.

Wednesday, game three will be played with the Giants fighting to avoid a sweep. The Giants will start Landon Roupp who comes in with a 3-3 win/loss record and a 3.63 ERA. Jackson Jobe will take the mound for the Tigers with a 4-1 win/loss record and a 4.06 ERA. This will be a very tough assignment for San Francisco if they continue to struggle offensively. First pitch for this game is scheduled for 10:10 AM.

#1 Shooty, there have been a number of publications discussing the Sacramento A’s playing in a minor league park isn’t the best idea after all. The A’s have the worst home record in baseball at 9-19. The A’s have have been involved in lopsided games and at just recently completed an 11 game losing streak.

#2 The A’s completed a seven game homestand running from May 19-25 and lost six of those seven games all at home before winning Sun May 25 which turned out to be the game that ended their 11 game losing streak.

#3 The ballplayers have been restrained about criticizing playing at Sutter Health Park the minor league home of the Sacramento River Cats a San Francisco Giants triple A affiliate. Just small hints of the players not so excitable feelings have been dropped one by A’s pitcher Luis Severino who said Sutter Health was a minor league park and A’s manager Mark Kotsay saying the site lines when a ball is hit down the left field line you can’t see it from where he’s standing in the dugout.

#4 The long and short of it Shooty should the A’s put an end to this three year interim agreement with the Rivercats owner Vivek Ranadive and open up discussions with Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee to return to the Coliseum and play their final two years after this season in Oakland before moving to Las Vegas in 2028? The Coliseum isn’t perfect but it’s a big league stadium and it would be a good temporary place until the Vegas park is built?

#5 The A’s had the day off on Monday and open a two game series in Houston on Tuesday night at Daikin Field in Houston. The A’s will be going with starter LHP JP Sears (4-4 ERA 4.00) Astros RHP Hunter Brown (6-3 ERA 2.04) will start to open the brief series first pitch is 5:10pm PDT.

#1 San Francisco Giants starter Robbie Ray pitched six effective innings to pick up his seventh win against no loses for the season in a 3-2 win over the Washington Nationals on Sunday.

#2 The Giants Sam Huff provided some offense with a home run and it was enough to get by the Washington Nationals. The Giants taking two out of three in Washington.

#3 The Nats CJ Abrams let the bottom of the ninth off with a double off closer Ryan Walker and James Wood picked up an RBI with a one out double scoring Abrams. Walker ended up retiring the next two hitters and picked up his tenth save of the season.

#4 Marko at the rate that Ray is pitching he could be a Cy Young candidate. Ray is the second Giant in the last 30 years to start a season at 7-0 the last to do it was Kevin Gausman in 2021.

#5 Next up for the Giants it’s off to the Motor City and the Detroit Tigers on Monday. The Giants will be starting RHP Hayden Birdsong 2-0 ERA 1.91 for the Tigers Keider Montrero (1-1 ERA 5.28) first pitch 10:10 AM PDT at Comerica Park in Detroit.

#1 Major League Commissioner Rob Manfred said that the torpedo bat is “absolutely good for baseball.” After all the attention that the torpedo bat has created Manfred addressed it’s legitmacy saying, “I believe that issues like the torpedo bat and the debate around it demonstrate the fact that baseball still occupies a unique place in our culture,”

#2 Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell has been placed on the 15 day IL suffering from left shoulder inflammation. Snell now 1-0 ERA 2.00 in two starts this season. Snell signed with the Dodgers for five years for $182 million.

#3 Due to weather issues the times have changed for the New York Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers times have been moved up. Wind chills have been forecasted for Monday and Tuesday to be in the 20s. The game that was scheduled from Monday has been moved up from 6:40pm to 3:10 and for Tuesday and Wednesday now at 1:10pm.

#4 Milwaukee Brewers left hand pitcher Nestor Cortes has been placed on the 15 day IL with a flexor strain in his left elbow. The Brewers pitching staff is depleted of their starting pitcher. With Cortes on the shelf the Brewers have Freddy Peralta as their only healthy starting pitcher in the starting rotation.

#5  Los Angeles Dodgers Shohei Ohtani threw a 26 pitch session on Saturday before the Dodgers played the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. Ohtani making a step closer to returning as a starter for the Dodgers. Ohtani has been out of the pitching rotation since Sep 19, 2023 this was his second bullpen session.

Giants conclude pre season with 4-3 win over Tigers at Oracle Park

SAN FRANCISCO–The San Francisco Giants used five pitchers to squeeze out a 4-3 win over the Detroit Tigers this lovely Sunday evening to close out an encouraging spring training with a record of 21-6). Right handed starter Jordan Hicks lasted five adequate innings, in which he allowed a couple of runs, both earned, on three hits, one of them a 409 foot solo shot to Justin-Henry Malloy that gave the visitors a short-lived lead.

Hicks also struck out one batter and walked another. The win went to Randy Rodríguez, who hurled a scoreless top of the seventh, in which he issued a walk and achieved a strikeout. Ryan Walker earned the save, shutting Detroit out in the ninth in spite of a two out triple by Ryan Kreidler.

Joel Peguero and Camilo Doval hurled a frame apiece. The former allowed a hit and nothing else. The latter gave up one run on three hits, although he did strike out one Tiger.

The Giants scored on Tyler Fitzgerald’s 375′ round tripper that plated Yastraemski in the bottom of the third. The home team picked up two more runs in the home seventh after Fitzgerald walked, stole second, and scored on Grant McGray’s single to center. Christian Koss then brought McGray home with the Giants’ final tally.

Jackson Jobe started for the Tigers. He allowed two runs, both earned on three hits, including Fitzgerald’s dinger, and two walks. The loss went to Casey Mize, who followed Jobe for three episodes and yielded two runs, earned, on three hits and one base on balls. Kenta Maeda contributed two K’s in pitching a perfect ninth.

The Giants leave tomorrow for Cincinnati, where they will open the season on Thursday.

They will return for the home opener, against Seattle on Friday, April 4, at 1:45.

SAN FRANCISCO–The players have broken camp, and your San Francisco Giants are ready to wrap up spring training with a couple of games against their transbay rivals, the Oakland Athletics. No, wait a minute! There’s something wrong here. It’s the Detroit Tigers your Giants are facing. Not even ex-Athletic A.J. Hinch at the helm can change that. Some things never change, though.

There’s always the fear of injury. The Giants, fearing a recurrence of the back injury that stole their exciting center fielder, 이정후, AKA Lee,Jung Hoo, from them half-way through last year’s letdown season. anxiously await his full recovery from his latest setback.

In the 17 Cactus League games Lee had appeared in, Lee hit .300 with an OPS of .967. No one wants a repeat of Blake Snell’s 2024 on again, off again recovery saga. Lee returned to action in Sunday’s game against the River Cats in Sacramento and went one for two, with a run scored and another driven in over five innings. He went 0 for 3 Monday night.

Matt Chapman seems to have recovered his groove at bat, but his fielding, which can be elegant, has suffered a noticeable decline this spring.. Last year, he, like many of his teammates, committed a lot of hidden errors, including late or poorthrows that prevented double plays and so were unchargeable.

This spring, they’re more visible. Chappy’s five errors in 15 games are a concern. He alleviated some of that this evening with a beautiful backhand grab on Manuel Baez’s scorcher down the third base line and a hard, accurate throw to first to retire the Tigers’ shortstop in the top of the fifth..

For what it’s worth, however, San Francisco, having defeated Detroit, 6-4, in a game that wasn’t as close as the score might indicate, can feek It was one of those games in which by the sixth or seventh inning inning you spend more time and attention trying to keep track of the substitutions than on the action on the field, so don’t expect much detail from the report.

San Francisco used five hurlers, starting with Robbie Ray, who went five frames and allowed two runs, both earned, one four hits, which included a pair of solo home runs in the fourth, He struck out four and gave up one free pass, gaining the win.

Ray was followed by Lou Trivino, Spencer Blevnins, Tyler Rogers, and Eric Miller, each of whom pitched an inning. Blevens gave up a single in the seventh. The only other Giant reliever to suffer any damage was Miller, who yielded two runs, both earned, on two hits, and a walk.

The Tigers used nine pitchers over eight innings. Tyler Horton, the first of the lot got tagged with the loss,

Ramos went 3 for 4, with three RBIs, and a homer for the hosts. The other Giant with a multi-hit game was Patrick Bailey, at 2 for 4, with two RBIs.

The two teams, both clad in orange and black, will continue to confuse the crowd Tuesday, at 5:05PM PDT. The Giants will then fly to Cincinnati to open the season on Wednesday, returning for their home opener on April 4 at 1:35 in the afternoon.

#1 Well Amaury, the Los Angeles Dodgers pulled it off with a 2-0 shoutout over the San Diego Padres on Friday night to advance to the next round of the playoffs winning game 5 and the series 3-2. Dodgers starter Yoshi Yamamoto was effective for five inning of work allowing just five hits and two strikeouts.

#2 The Dodgers face off against the New York Mets at Dodger Stadium for a 5:15pm PT on Sunday night start in game 1 of the NLCS. Starting pitcher for the Mets Kodai Senga (0-0 ERA 4.50) for the Dodgers Jack Flaherty (0-1, 6.75). The Mets took out the Philadelphia Phillies three games to four last Wednesday.

#3 Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt might win AL Manager of the Year just yet. Down 1-2 in the ALDS against the Detroit Tigers the Guardians came back to win game four 5-4 on Thursday to tie the series 2-2 and won game five 7-3 on Saturday to advance to the ALCS.

#4 The Guardians Lane Thomas had a big day with a grand slam home run and five RBIs. The Tigers starter Tarik Skubal got lit up by Thomas and ended up with a line of six plus innings, allowing six hits and five runs. Skubal had been a top contender for the AL Cy Young Award.

#5 The Guardians now face the New York Yankees in the ALCS for game 1 in the Bronx. These two teams have met over their history six times in October. They last met playing five games in the ALDS in 2022 with the Yankees winning the series.
