Sacramento A’s relocation podcast Daniel Dullum:

#1 The Athletics organization announced this week that they have moved forward on the construction of their Las Vegas ball park. The A’s sent a development agreement request to Clark County. The A’s have received a building permit to develop concrete work for $87 million.

#2 The development describes how the ball park will be constructed and the operations of the park and it was delivered to Clark County. A’s vice chairman Sandy Dean said that he was hopeful that the agreement will be heard by the Clark County Commission after officials review the documents.

#3 Clark County will set the agenda in a October meeting regarding the development agreement and zoning meeting in late September and a public hearing in October.

#4 Land permits were approved by Clark County and gave the A’s the ability to begin working on the development agreements and to keep the ball park construction on schedule and for the planned completion by 2028.

#5 The A’s will be paying for all costs that Clark County approves on the development agreement. Once the A’s spend their first $100 million. The A’s who are getting $380 million from the State of Sacramento A’s relocation podcast Daniel Dullum: A’s building vertical at Vegas ballpark after cement is poured in foundationNevada in public funds. However the A’s said they want to use only $350 million of that money.

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast Daniel Dullum Sun Apr 27, 2025: Fan support in Sacramento has been on the fence; Did not taking the Sacramento name turn some fans off?

Sutter Health Field in Sacramento as it looked on opening day April 2, 2025 with the Chicago Cubs and Sacramento Athletics this game was the closest the A’s came to selling out. The A’s have no sell outs so far this season. ( photo by Joe McNamara 93.1 KFBK facebook)

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast Daniel Dullum:

#1 The issue of the Sacramento A’s selling tickets is a question that’s been raised so far the A’s have not sold out one home game since opening day this month. The A’s have the highest priced ticket in baseball and they are not carrying the Sacramento name although the press call them Sacramento anyway is this part of the stigma?

# 2 The fans in Sacramento want the A’s to stay and fans in Sacramento basically need to sell the park out and basically show support of what the A’s front office is doing. Short of that it’s not likely anyway the A’s will not be staying in Sacramento.

#3 In Las Vegas reports were that Clark County had all the commercial grading permits were all in order and the A’s were prepped for stadium construction. The problem once again is the A’s share of the construction costs which run at $1.75 billion but could go even higher the longer they wait. The A’s and the Las Vegas Stadium Authority said that they were confident that shovels would be in the ground in June.

#4 The A’s are not paying rent to Sacramento River Cats and Sutter Health Park owner Vivek Ranadive the trade off for Ranadive is that outside chance that Vegas falls through and the A’s get to stay in Sacramento.

#5 Daniel from what we’ve heard in covering this story the players are not happy playing in a minor league facility but are not publicly saying anything. Their desire is to play in a Major League facility. The players and the players union if it gets to the point where this whole minor league park idea is not working could file a grievance through the union and say that playing in a minor league park is not acceptable and want to move to a MLB park for the remaining two interim years.

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast Daniel Dullum: A’s say shovels will go in the ground between April-June 2025 for Vegas ballpark construction

Site of the future Las Vegas A’s ballpark at the Tropicana Casino and Hotel resort on Wed Mar 5, 2025 as excavation is schedule to start between April-June and the park is expected to be ready by opening day 2028 according to the Athletics (photo by the Las Vegas Review Journal)

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum:

#1 The Sacramento A’s say their taking step closer to building their Las Vegas strip ballpark. The cost of the park is set at $1.75 billion. The A’s this week filed for a commercial grading permit in Clark County.

#2 The permit would allow the A’s to begin a mass excavation project on the Las Vegas strip where the Tropicana Casino and Hotel once stood. The permit was filed last Monday and the A’s and Bally’s Corp are merged for a ballpark/casino project on nine acres of the 35 acre location which is considered the busiest intersection in the world at Las Vegas Blvd and Tropicana.

#3 The ballpark capacity is expected to be 33,000 and construction is expected to get started between April and June. To make their payment schedule the A’s need to sell out the ballpark for every event for the next 30 years can they do it?

#4 The target for opening day at the Vegas ballpark is 2028. The A’s are applying for their entitlement process with Clark County. If they obtain the entitlements they can start construction. The entitlement would allow the A’s to be compliant with Clark County’s regulatory policies and regulations.

#5 Meanwhile Schools over Stadiums an education over stadiums organization with the backing of public education and it’s teachers and spokesperson Alexander Marks had a statement from the National Education Association of Southern Nevada regarding their push to stop public money for the A’s Las Vegas ballpark and Hollywood using public funds to begin a Hollywood Studio project in Las Vegas saying on Thursday night, “Not a single shovel in the ground yet and this project has already cost Nevada $36 million next year. That’s millions of dollars that could save hundreds of educator position and keep CCSD reading centers open-centers that are now slated to close due to budget shortfalls” Schools over Stadiums said in a X communication Thursday, “John Fisher gets $380 million in public money. They’re now considering $1.6B in public funds for a #HollywoodHandout”

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum: Schools over Stadiums says public money going to Hollywood studios; Schools over Studios protested funding at Nevada Assembly Committee Thursday

Alexander Marks and Schools over Stadiums/Schools over Studios appeared at the Assembly Committee on Revenue on Thu Feb 27, 2025 to argue that $400 million of public money from SB238 to fund Hollywood Studios to do production in Nevada should be going to pubic schools. Marks had previously argued that SB1 funding for an Athletics Las Vegas stadium should go to public schools and not a ballpark. (file photo from google)

On the Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast with Daniel Dullum:

#1 In December Athletics team president Sandy Dean said that the A’s are in the early stages of getting construction organized with Clark County (Las Vegas) back on Dec 5th. As of yet there is no report that the A’s have come up with the $1.75 billion for their share of the construction costs for the Vegas ballpark.

#2 The A’s are looking for loan help from Goldman Sachs and US Bank and Dean was pretty definite that those loans will be coming to the rescue. Some in the media have now questioned it’s been past the deadline Dec 2024 set by the Nevada Assembly for SB1 funding at $380 million that would be triggered when the A’s come up with their share of the construction costs. Could there be doubts that maybe this money may not happen at all?

#3 Schools over Stadiums spokesman Alexander Marks who previously protested and litigated against the A’s Vegas ballpark. Schools over Stadiums are now trying to stop the Nevada Legislature from spending more public money with a new senate bill that would fund Hollywood Studios with AB238. The bill would provide $80 million in tax credits from 2028 to 2043 and require at least $400 million to be invested into Nevada. The cost to fund the Hollywood studios where all filming would be in Nevada would be $20 million more than what the state will be paying for the Las Vegas A’s ballpark.

#4 Schools over Stadiums also named Schools over Studio for fighting the Hollywood funding has two fronts to fight. Schools over Stadiums had a meeting Thursday at the Assembly Committee on Revenue to argue their case that public money that should go to schools and not go to pay for Hollywood Studios productions to the tune of $400 million plus getting 15 years of tax credits.

#5 Schools over Stadiums knows they’re efforts to stop the A’s Vegas ballpark looks almost nil if the A’s come up with their share of the construction costs for the park. Schools over Stadiums still needs 102,586 signatures from four districts in Southern Nevada to sign a petition that would put an initiative on the ballot to stop public funding for SB1 the A’s ballpark. That signature drive has not launched as of yet.

Sacramento A’s podcast with Daniel Dullum: Renderings released for A’s Vegas ballpark at Bally’s Casino location

A rendering from Marnell Architecture depicts initial plans for a new casino-resort centered around the Athletics’ Las Vegas ballpark on the Strip. (Image via Clark County)

On the Sacramento A’s podcast with Daniel Dullum:

#1 The A’s who revealed their renderings for their new ballpark in Las Vegas will integrate the park with Bally’s Casino Resort. The new renderings look like an armadillo park as it would open as separate shells and have windows to let sunlight in.

#2 There are three phases to the property which would include a hotel tower 1000 to 1500 rooms it would include a casino, sports book, and a food hall and 4500 parking spaces. The capacity will not surpass 3,000 rooms.

#3 The park structure will be 290 feet high and will have seating capacity of 30,000. The renderings also reveal where the dugouts and home and visiting locker rooms will be located as well as a 100 level seating section.

#4 There are rendering for the second deck the 200 level section, third deck 300 section, there is a layout for the 400 section level which are the suites. It keeps on going there are the 600 and 700 level seats which are upper level seating.

#5 Daniel, keep in mind that the intersection of Tropicana and Las Vegas Blvd is the busiest intersection in the world. The A’s ballpark will accommodate 44,000 parking spaces when you also factor in the other surrounding casinos parking structures as well but that’s not to mention that gridlock will be a sure thing and don’t be surprised if there are some fans who won’t get in there seats on time. Public transit in Vegas is not the most convenient option unless you leave at least two hours early.

Oakland A’s Relocation podcast with Augie Mesenburg: Did Vegas Mayor have some weight behind her “A’s belong in Oakland” comment?

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman just recently won the hearts and minds of Oakland fans saying “the A’s belong in Oakland” this week in an interview with Front Office Sports (photo by the City of Las Vegas)

On the Oakland A’s Relocation podcast with Augie:

#1 Augie, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman’s remark’s that the “A’s belong in Oakland” after seeing that the Oakland A’s missed the deadline on presenting renderings and that owner John Fisher is asking the Las Vegas business community to help invest in the team.

#2 Later Goodman partially walked back what she originally said saying that she wanted what was best for Las Vegas, Paradise, and Clark County and that she wanted to welcome the A’s to Las Vegas and that the A’s only belonged in Oakland if they can’t get the financing their looking for.

#3 The interview with Mayor Goodman was conducted with Front Office Sports and it was audio recorded as well. Goodman said that the A’s “need to listen to the people that are up there (in Oakland). It’s there team.”

#4 Fisher has said that he is seeking financial assistance and that had put doubt in Goodman’s mind that Fisher doesn’t have the money. Goodman is not mayor of the A’s future home at the Tropicana location which is located in the Paradise city limits and ran by Clark County. Goodman and her husband former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman have been trying to bring MLB to Vegas for 20 years.

#5 Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao upon hearing what Goodman had to say that the A’s are Oakland ‘s team said with excitement in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle’s John Shea, “100%! Keeping the A’s in Oakland is what’s best for everyone including Las Vegas. My door is open to John Fisher and to anyone else that has the means and desire to purchase the A’s and keep them in the town. We have the plan, the sites, and the money. Let’s keep the A’s rooted in Oakland.”

#6 John Fisher is a vilified figure as many fans in Oakland want Fisher to sell the team and find a buyer who will keep the team in Oakland. Fisher repeatedly has said the team is not for sale. Daniel, in the hypothetical circumstance that Fisher can’t pay for the costs of the stadium in Vegas or if the whole Las Vegas ballpark plan fails can you see him going back to Oakland as Mayor Thao who says she has a existing offer on the table.

#7 Augie, a political action committee group Strong Public Schools has filed a lawsuit on Monday which also named the State of Nevada, Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo and state Treasurer Zach Conine as defendants saying that the state is “financing a world class Stadium for a California billionaire while ignoring Nevada’s second class education system.” The A’s nor anyone from Major League Baseball would not make a comment on the lawsuit that argues the SB1 bill violated the Nevada constitution because it was passed on a majority vote and not a two thirds vote. The A’s nor anyone from Major League Baseball are named as defendants.

#8 Schools over Stadiums according to sources has raised funding for their legal fees to get the proper petition language to put an initiative on the November ballot that would stop the public funding for the A’s ballpark on the Las Vegas strip with legal counseling. Schools over Stadiums can thank Oakland A’s fans namely the Oakland 68s and the Last Dive Bar who helped raise funds to help pay for the legal fees.

Augie Mesenburg filled in for Daniel Dullum who hosts the Oakland A’s Relocation podcasts Fridays at http://www.sportsradioservice.com

Oakland A’s podcast with Daniel Dullum: Schools over Stadiums needs funding to get petitions signed in Nevada

Former Oakland Mayor Jean Quan and Port of Oakland Commissioner Michael Colbruno spoke at a fundraiser on Aug 26, 2023 to support Schools over Stadium Nevada initiative to stop use of public funds for an A’s new ballpark in Las Vegas and put funding for use towards schools and education (@MikeOpera photo)

On the A’s podcast with Daniel:

#1 Daniel, Dawn Etcheverry, a music teacher and President of NSEA and Schools Over Stadiums in Nevada is moving on a petition referendum to stop the use of public funding tax dollars that would be used to build a ballpark at the Tropicana hotel and casino that was approved by the Nevada State Legislation in June in a special session.

#2 Etcheverry said the petition is pursuing every path possible to stop the use of public funding to pay for the Tropicana Park for a future Las Vegas A’s relocation. Etcheverry said that the Nevada voters were shutout in the process and didn’t have a say in the use of public funds for paying for the ballpark to the tune of $380 million.

#3 The organization Schools over Stadiums goal is to make sure public funding goes to public schools and not the Tropicana Park and once enough signatures are on the petitions from four the Nevada districts including Clark County which Las Vegas and Tropicana hotel are a part of the measure to stop using public money will be put on the ballot.

#4 If Nevadans vote to stop the use of public funds to build the Tropicana ball park succeeds the funding for the ballpark ceases and the A’s will have to seek private funding if they want to continue pursuing Las Vegas. They possibly could go back to the City of Oakland and negotiate terms about building at Howard Terminal.

#5 If everything goes as planned Schools over Stadiums will have the vote in November 2024, one year and two months from now. The MLB owners are voting on the A’s relocation in December. If the owners vote yes to relocate the A’s, the Schools over Stadiums measure could hold up shovels in the ground at the Tropicana until the voters have their say in Nov 2024.

That’s Amaury News and Commentary podcast: Vegas Renderings take on some looks of Oakland Coliseum

Artist rendering of Tropicana Ballpark in Las Vegas in night game mode at the cost of $1.5 billion and the smallest venue in MLB with 30,000 seats near the Vegas strip (image from the Oakland Athletics)

On That’s Amaury News and Commentary podcast:

#1 Amaury, the renderings are out on the Las Vegas A’s new ballpark. It’s a circular looking park that take on the shape of the original Oakland Coliseum but with much less seating 30,000 the smallest park in MLB. The park has a arch above it and it looks like a see through room that would be retractable.

#2 Home plate face the Las Vegas Airport and the park is subject to FAA approval due to lighting and height when planes land and take off.

#3 The renderings of the field show that there’s lots of foul territory similar to that of the Oakland Coliseum

#4 Nevada and Clark County are committing to $380 million towards the park, $180 million in tax credits and $120 million from Clark County in issued bonds.

#5 That said Amaury how hard will this be for many of the current and former players, the fans, the jobs, that will be left behind in Oakland?

Headline Sports podcast with Jessica Kwong: LeBron will think it over about retirement; Rogers says Jets is like a dream job; plus much more

LeBron James (6) of the Los Angeles Lakers says he not sure if he will retire from basketball skipped the Lakers practice facility press conference on Tue May 23, 2023 at Crypto Arena in Los Angeles. The Lakers were swept in four games by the Denver Nuggets and eliminated from the 2023 post season. (AP News photo)

On Headline Sports podcast with Jessica:

#1 Los Angeles Lakers future Hall of Famer and star LeBron James did not show up for the Lakers practice facility the day after the Lakers were swept out of the playoffs by the Denver Nuggets. All players on the Lakers were present and accounted for except LeBron who said he’s taking time off to consider whether he will retire or not.

#2 New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rogers is having a great time with his new team but sat out of practice on Tuesday due to a minor calf muscle strain. Rogers is no doubt enjoying being on the Jets saying it’s like a “dream” so far.

#3 Jessica it looks as if Nick Nurse and Doc Rivers are the top contenders for the Phoenix Suns head coaching job. Nurse has also been mentioned as a top candidate for the Milwaukee Bucks head coach vacancy. The Suns are looking to fill former head coach Monty Williams’ position after he was fired for losing to the Denver Nuggets who are in the NBA Finals.

#4 The Tampa Bay Rays entered Tuesday night’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays as the team that has given up the fewest runs in the American League that all changed when the Jays bombarded the Rays 20-1. The one laugher was when the Jays Vladimir Guerrero struck out against a position player outfielder Luke Raley who pitched in the eighth and Guerrero returned to the dugout laughing. The game was a laugher too for the Jays.

#5 The Oakland A’s and the State of Nevada have reached a loose agreement that reduces the State’s tax credit debt to less than $195 million and for Clark County to pay less than $200 million less than the $395 million needed toward building a ballpark on the Las Vegas Strip’s Tropicana property. Previously the State were going to kick in $100 to 195 million toward the tax credits. Once an agreement is in place.
