Cal Bears quarterback Jack Plummer gets ready to throw the football, Plummer hit three receivers on the day for three touchdown passes against the UC Davis Aggies at Memorial Stadium in Berkeley on Sat Sep 3, 2022 (AP News photo)

On the Cal Bears podcast with Morris:

#1 Morris after the UC Davis Aggies scored the first touchdown of the game it didn’t take long for the Cal Bears to answer back in the second quarter to take a ten point lead 17-7 for a half time score.

#2 The Bears Jack Plummer threw for three touchdowns it was Plummer’s first game under center for Cal and he pretty much had the rule of the roost with the football taking Cal to a 34-13 win.

#3 Cal in that first quarter just regrouped going into that second quarter minus one. The Bears are now 11-0 against the Aggies all time.

#4 Morris, talk about the receivers that Plummer got to throw to three yards to Jeremiah Hunter, eight yards to Jadyn Ott, and 14 yards to Mavin Anderson.

#5 Talk about how much confidence Cal will have going into week 2 facing UNLV with the home field advantage next Sat Sep 17th at Memorial Stadium in Berkeley.

The Cal Bears Joel Brown (1) gets up on the Stanford Cardinal Spencer Jones (left) at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley on Sat Feb 27, 2022 (photo by the Santa Cruz Sentinel)

On the Cal Bears podcast with Morris:

#1 Cal (12-17) got a Big Game win over the Stanford Cardinal (15-13) 53-39 in the lowest scoring game of the season for the Cardinal. Was it a matter of Cal’s defense was on or Stanford’s shooting was just off?

#2 Morris, it’s like you wrote in your game recap on Saturday it was a cold night outside in Berkeley and the game for Stanford was like they had to stay outside in their uniforms and warm ups on offense they just froze.

#3 Winning after a lengthy streak of rough results didn’t deter the Golden Bears. Instead it strengthened them, according to coach Mark Fox.

#4 Cal’s Jordan Shepherd led with 28 points no other player got into double figures for Cal but his 28 held up and then some.

#5 Up next the Cal Bears are at Arizona State (12-16) this Thu Mar 3, the Bears are coming off a win against the Cardinal could you see then keeping the momentum going at ASU.

Cal Bears Basketball podcast with Morris Phillips: Who would have thought Cal takes two on last road trip

Oregon guard Jacob Young (42) and California forward Lars Thiemann (21) battle for the loose ball at Phillip Knight Arena in Eugene on Sat Feb 12, 2022 (AP News photo)

On the Cal Bears basketball podcast with Morris:

#1 When you just sit back and look at that score the Cal Bears (11-15) 78 and the Oregon Ducks (16-8) 64 a game that was played at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene on Saturday night it’s shocking but yes it’s real.

#2 The win on Saturday in Eugene was Cal’s second win in this two game Oregon trip taking two games at Oregon State and Oregon. Previous to the win on Thursday at Oregon State Cal had lost ten straight games. What changed?

#3 The Bears guard Jordan Shepherd on Saturday was the only Cal player to score in double figures with 33 points which quite remarkable if you consider Cal winning by 14 points so it looks like all Shepherd all the time.

#4 What also was remarkable was the first half Sunday where the Bears scored a 38-22 lead going into half time and you could see the shock on the faces on Ducks fans and Ducks bench.

#5 The Bears next take on the Colorado Buffaloes (15-9) who have won their last two games and have won four of their last ten games. Colorado defeated the Utah Utes (9-16) 81-76 in their last game on Saturday night.

Cal Bears basketball podcast with Morris Phllips: Cal tries to break seven game losing streak against Stanford Tuesday night

The USC Trojans Isaiah Mobley shows whose the big man on campus scoring a leading 24 points against the Cal Bears on Sat Jan 29, 2022 at Galen Center in Los Angeles (AP News photo)

On the Cal Bears basketball podcast with Morris:

#1 Morris, the whistles might have been unkind to the USC Trojans (19-3) Isaiah Mobley who led with 24 points but Mobley was unkind to the Cal Bears (9-13) in turn on Saturday night in the Southland as Cal on this seven game losing streak.

#2 The Bears suffered a frustrating 79-72 loss to No. 15 USC as Mobley and Ethan Anderson carried the Trojans in a physical contest that was still up for grabs with two minutes remaining.

#3 The 6’10” Mobley (24 points) and Memphis transfer Boogie Ellis (21 points, five assists) came up with career-best scoring performances.

#4 The Bears in the first half were just behind the Trojans by six points but were close 38-37 in the second half and ending up with a seven point loss 79-72.

#5 Morris the Bears will try to end their seven game losing streak when they head to Stanford on Tuesday night to face the Cardinal (12-8) the Cardinal have been going well winning seven of their last ten games.

Cal Bears basketball podcast with Morris Phillips: Bears in the Southland on Thursday to face tough nemesis UCLA; Cal looking to end 5 game skid

Arizona Wildcats guard Bennedict Mathurin (0) Arizona’s leading scorer with guard Kerr Kriisa (25) share a handshake at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley defeating the Cal Bears on Sun Jan 23, 2022 (photo from the Arizona Wildcats)

On the Cal basketball podcast:

#1 Morris from wire to wire the Arizona Wildcats (16-1) were just having their way with the basketball and the Cal Bears (9-10) for a 96-71 win. On offense Benedict Mathurin led the Wildcats in scoring. Mathurin like most of his teammate was getting some nice chances today.

#2 On the Cal defense frustrating getting them to stop the Wildcats inside game hence the kind of success led by Mathurin getting his way on many of his shots.

#3 Morris during the game you mentioned Jordan Shepherd had a tough time getting out of the gate he eventually led Cal in scoring but for most of the game was the only player in double figures.

#4 Morris, talk a little bit about the Cal offense try as hard as they may guys like Andre Kelly and Joel Brown were in single digits for most of the game and Arizona knew about guys like these to shut their game down.

#5 Cal head coach Mark Fox got a pair of technicals and ejected from the game talk about the ejection and how much that impacted Cal’s game.

#6 It’s back to the drawing board for Cal as it’s onto the Southland and the UCLA Bruins (13-2) on Thu Jan 27th at Pauley Pavilion. The last time Cal faced the Bruins in Berkeley on Jan 8th the Bruins were the clear winners 60-52. After getting a dose of the Wildcats on Sunday can Cal come back and make a game of it on Thursday night?

Cal Bears basketball podcast with Morris Phillips: After four straight loses Cal faces one of the Pac 12’s toughest teams in Arizona Sunday

California forward Lars Thiemann (21) and Washington State forward Mouhamed Gueye (35) go for the ball in Sat Jan 15, 2022 contest at Pullman (AP News photo)

On the Cal Bears podcast with Morris:

#1 Morris after winning five in a row the Cal Bears (9-9) has now lost four in a row what’s been the difference in the change?

#2 How tough has it got to be for the Bears after losing the two games to USC (14-2) and UCLA (11-2) and then losing twice again to Washington and Washington State Cal head coach Mark Fox works hard to prepare this team.

#3 Looking at Cal’s last game in Pullman 65-57 against the Washington State Cougars (10-7) on Saturday night the Bears had the lead after the half but couldn’t hold it were the Bears just pressing too much in second half?

#4 We know you mentioned it in your recap that Cal guard Joel Brown who just got out of Covid 19 protocols after a seven day quarantine got to Pullman from Berkeley on a flight and played just a minute. After being away that amount of time from playing did Brown come into the game pretty rusty?

#5 Cal now will host one of the toughest teams in the Pac 12 the Arizona Wildcats (14-1) at Haas Pavilion on Sun Jan 23rd for a noon tip. The Wildcats just manhandled their last opponents the Utah Utes (8-9) in Tucson 82-64. How do you see the Bears approach to fending off the Wildcats this Sunday?

Cal Bears basketball podcast with Morris Phillips: Cal offense shreds ASU in 24 point win Sunday night; Undefeated USC comes calling on Thursday night at Haas

The Arizona Sun Devils Enoch Boakye (14) goes for a finger roll shot over the Cal Bears Grant Anticevich (15) at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley on Sun Jan 2, 2022 (photo by Arizona State University Athletic Dept)

On the Cal Bears podcast with Morris:

#1 Morris it wasn’t even a contest last night at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley as the Cal Bears (9-5) leveled the ASU Sun Devils (5-8) 74-50 Sunday night. Nothing but offense for the Bears as the Sun Devils couldn’t do anything to get into this contest in the 24 point landslide.

#2 Morris talk a little about the handy work of forward Lars Thiemann 12 minutes, four rebounds and seven points.

#3 The Bears Jordan Shepherd led in scoring with 16 points followed by Andre Kelly 13 points, and Grant Anticevich with ten points. The Bears distributed the ball well and had a great inside game where head coach Mark Fox was happy with the work done inside the paint.

#4 Taking a look at that first half it just simply wasn’t even a contest as Cal just dominated the Sun Devils 41-23. The Bears had their way on both sides of the ball stopping ASU on any chance to come close and defending the shot. On offense the ball was distributed well and Cal had no problem getting their shots to fall.

#5 Up next for the Bears the USC Trojans (13-0) on Thu Jan 6th. The Trojans who have not lost a game all season just had their way in their last game against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (5-6) in both halves of their game in a 67-53 win. The Bears got a big offensive win Sunday night against ASU but USC could be a whole different matter at Haas on Thursday night.

On the Cal Bears podcast with Morris:

#1 Morris, talk about how crucial the offensive scoring of Cal Bears (6-5) Andre Kelly has been on Saturday night against the Santa Clara Broncos (7-4) leading with 18 points for the 72-60 win.

#2 Cal who was expected to win five or less games all season have won four of their last five games are a game over .500 and beat a very respectable team in Santa Clara on Saturday night.

#3 The Bears were perfect from the free throw line going ten for ten head coach Mark Fox is pleased with the improvement from the charity stripe.

#4 What can you say about Grant Anticevich with 12 points, eight rebounds, and one assist he’s not only been consistent but his contributions have been big during Cal’s recent wins.

#5 The Bears host the Dartmouth Big Green (3-5). The Big Green have lost three in a row after winning three in a row. Dartmouth lost in their most recent game to Boston University (9-3) 65-62. They’ve been in some of the games they’ve lost could they give Cal a real run next Sunday at Haas Pavilion?

The Cal Bears forward Andre Kelly (22) throws down against the Idaho State Bengals on Wed Dec 8, 2021 night at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley (photo by the Cal Bears Athletics Dept)

On the Cal Bears basketball podcast with Michael Duca:

#1 Michael, the Cal Bears (5-5) are coming off a huge 72-46 win over the Idaho State Bengals (1-8) after getting beat at Salt Lake City by the Utah Utes (6-2) 66-58 on Wednesday night.

#2 The Bears had three players in double figures lets start with their leading scorer forward Andre Kelly who finished with 12 points the Bears have been getting lot of offense from his recent games.

#3 John Shepherd finished second in scoring with 11 points he’s getting good ball distribution and has had some great shot selection and had led in scoring in his own right.

#4 The Bears just ran up the score in the second half with a 42-23 thrashing over the Bengals it was a half that head coach Mark Fox would love to see every night.

#5 Michael, the task gets harder as Cal hosts the Santa Clara Broncos (8-3) the Broncos have won five of their last eight games and last the Mount St Mary’s Mountaineers (3-8) by 11, 88-77 on Tuesday night. How do you see Cal preparing for Santa Clara for this Saturday at Haas Pavilion.

Cal Bears basketball podcast with Morris Phillips: Kelly the big difference in Cal’s win last Thursday; Bears face undefeated Gators in Florida tonight

The one to watch the Florida Gators forward Colin Castleton who led the Gators in scoring against Milwaukee Panthers on Thu Nov 18, 2021. The Cal Bears will need to step up the defense against Castleton and forward Tyree Appleby for tonight’s game vs. the Florida Gators in Meyers Fl (AP file photo)

On the Cal Bears basketball podcast with Morris:

#1 Morris there was no doubt that the Cal Bears (3-2) Andre Kelly was nothing short of impressive with his 29 points in taking to the Southern Utah Thunderbirds (1-4) 75-68 last Thu Nov 18 at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley.

#2 Morris, how important was it for Cal’s defense to shut down Southern Utah’s John Knight III over the final 3:41 of regulation play who lead both teams in scoring with 31 points.

#3 One of the other keys to the win was how the Cal defense held Knight scoreless in overtime for the first 9:32 keeping a guy like that out of range certainly lends to improving your chances of winning.

#4 Talk about matching Cal 6’7″ freshman Sam Alajiki to defend Knight it must have worked while Alajiki was on Knight Cal got a 8-0 run to cut the lead down to two during the second half.

#5 Next up for Cal is the mighty Florida Gators (4-0) this will be a contrast from the Thunderbirds that the Bears just finished playing. The Gators have some scorers like Colin Castleton and Tyree Appleby. The Bears will have to come at the Gators will some top ranked offense tonight.
