Cal Bears podcast with Michael Duca: Washington State demolishes Cal 82-51; Williams coverts 32 for WSU

On the Bears podcast with Michael:

#1 After the Cal Bears (8-16) had a huge victory over the Colorado Buffaloes last Saturday things turned for the worse at Washington State and the Cougars had their way with a convincing 82-51 win on Thursday night.

#2 Matt Bradley led the way in scoring for the Bears with 16 and Andre Kelly followed up with 10 points and both were the only ones in double figures.

#3 No way Noah Williams of the Cougars had 32 points no way because there was no way the defense could have shut him down as Williams worked his way through the Cal defense even in the paint.

#4 Michael when you see someone like that having his way with the defense would it have helped if head coach Mark Fox had double teamed Williams?

#5 It’s onto Seattle and the Washington Huskies (4-17) who have lost seven of their last eight games and the Cal Bears have lost nine of their last ten games both teams clash on Saturday at 7:00pm at UW.

On the Cal Bears podcast with Michael Duca:

#1 The Stanford Cardinal Oscar da Silva who scored only nine points in his last game against USC on Tuesday night had a different offensive outcome on Thursday night with a 24 point night against the Cal Bears and was key in the 70-55 take down in Berkeley.

#2 da Silva also added 11 rebounds and four assists in the lopsided victory as the Cardinal poured it on if the first half with a 42-29 lead at the half.

#3 The Cardinal with the they way they commanded the offense played with the confidence that they had and with the game in hand and somewhat but not to accuse that the mercy rule was in effect take a slighter 28-26 second half lead and the win.

#4 For head coach Mark Fox he was hoping that Cal could come back but with Stanford reaching a comfortable lead and the Cal offense probably thought any chance of winning was not possible.

#5 Cal gets another chance to try to even the two game home at home series at Stanford  this Sunday. The Bears take a four game losing streak into Maples Pavilion and though the odds might say otherwise Cal is hoping to get in the win column in this one.

Cal Bears podcast with Michael Duca: Bears couldn’t hold their own in second half lose to Ducks 82-69

On the Cal Bears podcast with Michael:

#1 Michael, in the first half action of Cal’s (5-5) game against the Oregon Ducks (7-1) the Bears looked like they might make an interesting game of it trailing the Ducks just by a point at the half 36-35.

#2 The Bears Matt Bradley returned after missing two games and suffering an injury. Bradley led the Bears with 21 points at Matthew Knight Arena on New Year’s eve.

#3 The Bears Makale Forman in spite of the loss had a hot hand with 14 points and four three pointers. You got to like what he brings to the Cal offense.

#4 The Ducks had a second half surge outscoring Cal 46-34 and the Ducks top scorer Eugene Omoruyi led the Ducks with 26 points Omoruyi was a huge contributor towards keeping the Bears from playing catch up.

#5 The Bears head to Oregon State to face the Beavers. The Beavers had their game against Stanford on Thursday night canceled due to Covid-19 testing results and contact tracing issues. The Bears hope for the Beavers to be healthy and ready for Sat Jan 2nd’s game tell us how you see this match up.

On the Cal Bears podcast with Michael Duca:

#1 Michael, how big is it for Cal that they didn’t have to suffer too many postponed games, rescheduled games and pretty much rely on playing their home games at Haas Pavilion during this very strict Covid-19 shutdown.

#2 In Cal’s last game men’s basketball game at Pepperdine it was the tale of the two halves. The first half the Pepperdine dominated with a 44-30 whereas Cal improved the defense in the second half with the Waves just edging out Cal 32-30 but as you know it’s what the scoreboard shows at the end of the game as it was 74-62 Pepperdine.

#3 All things considered Michael did that second half show any improvements for Cal as they played a close second half against a very good Waves team who have made handy work of post season tournaments.

#4 Cal has now lost two straight including a loss to UCLA the game before Pepperdine they come back to Haas Pavilion for Saturday night’s game against USF (4-2). The Dons have won four straight after going 0-2. Knowing how well coached USF is how do you see this match up on Saturday?

#5 Michael talk about two of Cal’s top scorers from Wednesday’s game Grant Anticevich with 21 points and Matt Bradley who lead Cal with 27 points they had to work hard against the Waves.

#1 Michael what does the cancelation of Saturday’s game mean for Cal as they were to open the season at home against the Washington Huskies at Memorial Stadium?

#2 Cal head coach Justin Wilcox says the team takes all kinds of precautions against the spread of Covid 19 but sometimes that’s like plugging multiple holes in a row boat.

#3 One unnamed player and his co-position players are quarantined, the unknown player is asymptomatic and keeping with Berkeley’s Health Department’s protocols the player’s teammates who share the same position with him are quarantined.

#4 The Bears have this game canceled and coach Wilcox says this is a huge disappointment for the alumni, fans, faculty, school, coaches and players and worst it opening day in college football is something that every campus is always looking forward to.

#5 So the Bears will try to again this time at Arizona State on Sat Nov 14th it will be the Bears first game and the Sun Devils second game of the season in the brief six game campaign.

Cal Bears basketball podcast with Michael Duca: Cal stays competitive despite being towards bottom in offense

Cal Bears podcast with Michael Duca:

#1 The Bears who are at the bottom of NCAA basketball team in offense didn’t look like a team that’s struggling as they got a road win in Pullman defeating Washington State 66-57.

#2 Paris Austin, Andre Kelly and Matt Bradley combined for 46 points for Cal that contribution helped accelerate the offense and Austin, Kelly and Bradley had some great opportunities to take some great shots.

#3 The win marks the first time they’ve won on the road this season what do the Bears need to do to win games on the road?

#4 Cal head coach Mark Fox said, “For this team, no one gave them a chance to have much success so any time that they have some I want them to enjoy it and understand how they found that success so they can build on it,”

#5 Fox said this was a win that he hopes will create some momentum going into Seattle this Saturday at Washington

#1 It’s been a while since Cal (6-8) played it’s last basketball game on Jan 2nd at Stanford (12-2) in a game they lost 68-52 they’ve had a lot of practices since that game.

#2 Talk about Grant Anticevich and Matt Bradley and what they brought to the offense for Cal

#3 The Bears have struggled in the second half of recent games they are in Pac 12 Conference play what do they have to do differently to right the ship.

#4 Morris was saying in his last game recap and podcast that the Bears in their lacked a shot they need to get their offense up to speed.

#5 Tonight they have Washington State (9-5) at Haas Pavilion is the Cougars a good opportunity to get that first conference win?

Cal Bears podcast with Michael Duca: Gael forces to hand Cal their first home loss; Bears try to regroup against Boston Saturday

#1 Just overwhelming as the Cal Bears were outplayed by the St. Mary’s Gaels on Saturday night at Haas Pavilion.

#2 The Bears came into Haas undefeated at home this season, but couldn’t stop the Gales offensive evening, losing by 12 points for their first home loss.

#3 Two of the Gales forces that were just unstoppable were Jordan Ford’s 32 points and Malik Fitts’ 28 points, who led St Mary’s in scoring.

#4 Cal head coach Mark Fox said that St. Mary’s offense was very good and trying to shut them down proved difficult.

#5 The Bears will try to get back into the win column as they matchup against Boston College at the Al Attles Classic on Saturday, Dec. 21 at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
