BROOKLYN, NY. — Stephen Curry led the Golden State Warriors (17-16) to a 120-107 win over the Brooklyn Nets (10-20) at Barclays Center on Monday night – while passing Kevin Garnett to reach No. 21 on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.

Curry said he could speak about each player he has passed on the league’s career points leaderboard, but “at this stage it’s just all icons, all legends, all guys that I loved watching play, define the era that they played in”.

“So to pass those type of individuals and especially a guy like KD – I mean KG – a champ and what his career meant, is special for sure,” said Curry. “So each guy I pass, I’m honored.”

Curry finished with 27 points and Jimmy Butler with 21 to give the Warriors their fourth win in five contests, and snap the Nets’ three-game winning streak.

The Warriors had a lackluster first quarter and at one point were down by as many as 13 points. But they stayed in it and captured a 2-point lead at the half.

In the third quarter, Curry got into this rhythm and scored 10 straight points including two 3-pointers, a field goal and two free throws, to put Golden State up 89-85.

“They got off to such a hot start and kind of picked apart our zone. They made a couple of late 3’s, late shot clock 3’s early,” said Warriors head coach Steve Kerr.

“Once we switched to our man-to-man, we had pretty good attention on Cam Thomas and Michael Porter Jr. even though both guys had it going a little but, I thought in the fourth quarter our attention to Porter Jr. in particular was really good.”

The Nets (10-20) went on a 8-0 run with less than five minutes left in the fourth quarter and trailed 107-103 after Terance Mann made two of three free throws.

With less than a minute left in the game, Curry went to the free throw line and made the first to “MVP” chants – but surprisingly missed the second.

“Probably one of the few times that I had the MVP chant and I missed the last free throw, hitting the stride a little bit,” Curry joked.

“But I’m definitely grateful for it (MVP chants), it keeps you going, it picks you up even on a back-to-back when it might be a little bit tough to find some energy, for a road crowd to give you that, you feed off it, it’s special.”

Trayce Jackson-Davis scored 11 points and De’Anthony Melton had 10 to help boost the Warriors after their overtime loss to Toronto on Sunday.

“I think just with the back-to-back, just kind of gotta get yourself going,” said Jackson-Davis.

“I didn’t play last game so I felt like I could help bring the energy up, just go out there. It starts on the defensive end of the floor, so good stops and start running, and see if our teammates can build off that.”

The Warriors (17-16) are now 7-12 in away games. They continue on their three-game road trip on Wednesday, facing the Charlotte Hornets (11-21) at 10 a.m. PT.

Golden State Warriors game wrap: Warriors just get by Nets 121-119 at Barclay Center

Golden State Warrior guard Stephen Curry (30) led with 40 points against the Brooklyn Nets at Barclay Center in Brooklyn on Thu Mar 6, 2025

By Jessica Kwong

BROOKLYN, NY. — Stephen Curry scored 40 points against the Brooklyn Nets for the first time in 25 career games against them and led the Golden State Warriors to a 121-119 victory at Barclays Center on Thursday night.

It wasn’t until after the Warriors got the win that put them 4-1 in the five-game road trip that Curry realized his accomplishment – one that puts him one step away from a new personal record.

“Naw I didn’t know until after. When I had 38, two people came up and said, get a layup or something, but they didn’t say why,” said Curry. “I found out after.”

Golden State trailed 27-5 early on and Curry changed the tide by making a fadeaway buzzer-beater from the Nets’ half court logo at the end of the first half. Some of his teammates were only slightly surprised that it went in.

“He just had one in Orlando, so I think every shot’s going in anyway,” said Gary Payton II. “So let’s head into the locker room, regroup, let’s come back out for the second half. And you know, he gives us those sparks at the end of the half. And we needed that win so, it’s nice.”

The Warriors started the second half only five points behind and outscored the Nets 31-29 in the third quarter and 35-30 in the fourth. Head coach Steve Kerr called it a “very professional win to come back from 22 down right out of the gates”.

“I give them credit, they were just amazing that first quarter,” Kerr said of the Nets. “They took it to us and so for our guys to get settled and make a good comeback and take control of the game late, it was a hell of an effort and a great trip.”

Jimmy Butler contributed 25 points and six assists. The Warriors are 10-1 since he joined the lineup, and the chemistry they had with him in their 114-102 victory over the New York Knicks on Tuesday at Madison Square Garden continued at Barclays Center.

Brooklyn trailed 97-91 with 7:30 to go in the game and were unable to close in. The Nets (21-41) suffered their sixth straight loss as the crowd chanted “MVP! MVP! MVP!” for Curry, making it feel like a home game for Golden State.

The Warriors (35-28) head back to Chase Center for a seven-game homestand that starts on Saturday hosting the Detroit Pistons. That happens to be the only team in the league that Curry has not scored at least 40 points against.

“He’s got one more, one more on the hit list and then he has everybody,” Payton said. “So hopefully we get that done for him.”

Asked if he will aim to get the job done against Detroit, Curry answered humbly.

“You know – maybe you don’t know me. I don’t ever think that way. I play the game the way I want to,” he said. “Obviously it’s on my mind so I won’t shy away from it, but you don’t sabotage a game just to score 40. You try to win, no matter what it takes.”

Asked if Curry will make the milestone on Saturday, Draymond Green laughed and said: “Let’s not piss the Pistons off.”

Tip-off on Saturday is at 5:30 p.m. PT.

Nets can’t shutdown Sabonis with 22 rebounds and a triple double Kings win 110-96 at Barclays Center

Sacramento Kings Domantas Sabonis (11) is thrilled after scoring against the Brooklyn Nets in the second half at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Mon Jan 27, 2025 (AP News photo)

By Jessica Kwong

BROOKLYN, NY. — The Sacramento Kings snapped a two-game losing streak on Monday night with a 110-96 win over the Brooklyn Nets in the annual Chinese New Year celebration game at Barclays Center.

Kings guard De’Aaron Fox scored a team-leading 30 points and Kings center Domantas Sabonis scored 21 points and had 22 rebounds and 10 assists, notching his seventh triple-double this season.

The game was close throughout most of the first half but Sacramento trailed at halftime by seven points. When the Kings were down nine points with just over 10 minutes to go in the third quarter, Fox scored eight points and led his team on a 12-0 run.

“I think more than anything, when you get that aggressive Fox, it’s a special sight to behold. He can get down heel when he wants, he’s got the floater. All of a sudden the three ball starts to fall, he gets to the free throw line,” said Kings interim head coach Doug Christie.

“All those things, they add up. And even defensively when he’s engaged, like that physical presence, he’s a load to deal with and I was really happy to see it.”

After the break, Sacramento outscored Brooklyn 33-24 in the third and ended the quarter up 80-78. The Kings went on a 13-2 run and reached peak momentum when Keegan Murray made a triple to put them up 97-85 with just over six minutes to go in the fourth.

The Kings outscored the Nets 63-42 in the second half.

“There’s a lot for us to be happy with and there’s some things that we’ve still got to clean up with our consistency. But overall, we got out of here with a W and we continue to build and solidify our identity and that’s the most important thing,” Christie said.

“Winning is everything, but us solidifying who we are on a night-to-night basis so we know what we’re going to our arena with is paramount for us.”

Sabonis became the fifth player in Kings franchise history with 20 or more games with 20 rebounds.

“I’m just going out there trying to do my job,” said Sabonis. “As a big, you got to rebound you know, and then try to be involved on the offensive end, help my teammates.”

Brooklyn (14-33) had their losing streak extended to seven games – their worst since losing 11 straight in January to February 2022. They were without star Ben Simmons who has lower back soreness and has missed five games

The Kings (24-22) continue their road trip visiting the Philadelphia 76ers (17-27). Tip-off is at 4:30 p.m. PT.

Sacramento Kings podcast with Barbara Mason: Kings-Nets tip off at Barclay Center tonight in Brooklyn

Sacramento Kings small forward DeMar DeRozan (10) attempts to take it to the net being defended by the New York Knicks small forward OG Anunoby (8) in the second half at Madison Square Garden in New York on Sat Jan 25, 2025 (AP News photo)

On the Sacramento Kings podcast with Barbara Mason:

#1 The New York Knicks OG Anunoby led with 33 points, Josh Hart followed up with 20 points and had 18 rebounds and 11 assists it was Hart’s sixth triple double for the 2024-25 season and the effort was good enough to beat the Sacramento Kings 143-120 at Madison Square Garden on Saturday.

#2 Adding to the Knicks scoring total Mikal Bridges with 27 points and Jalen Brunson with 25 points, 11 assists. Brunson needed two more points to reach his season high. Karl-Anthony Towns scored 16 points and had 15 rebounds.

#3 Despite the hard effort and the loss by the Kings DeMar DeRozan led the Kings with 31 points and Domantas Sabonis followed up with 25 points, 13 rebounds, and 12 assists.

#4 So this season no player on the Kings roster has played in all 45 games this season. Keon Ellis is the closest with 44 games played. The Kings still continue to struggle against the Knicks at MSG having not won there since Nov 3, 2019.

#5 The Kings take on the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn for a 4:30pm PST tip. The Nets are 12th in the Eastern Conference at 14-32 and are struggling big time having lost six straight games. The Kings have lost two straight and are hoping to get back in the win column. The Kings are tenth in the Western Conference at 23-22 and are .500 on the road at 15-15.

Brooklyn’s Thomas 34 points beats Kings 108-103; Loss is third in a row for Sac

SACRAMENTO–The Kings were back in action on Sunday night. The Kings last played on Friday night in Los Angeles when they faced the Clippers. The Kings lost to the Clippers 104-88. On Sunday, the Kings hoped to avoid falling below .500. They were set to face the Nets at 7 PM PST in Golden 1 Center. The Kings ultimately lost to the Nets 108-103.

In the first quarter, the Kings’ hangover from Friday seemed to continue. They played with a noticeable lack of urgency and were outscored 37-28. Despite entering the game as 11-point favorites, the Kings struggled to generate any offensive rhythm. De’Aaron Fox was a bright spot, scoring 14 points in the quarter.

In the second quarter, the Nets continued to pressure the Kings. The Kings failed to match the Nets’ pace and physicality but showed slight improvement compared to the first quarter. They outscored the Nets 29-28, reducing the deficit by one point. At halftime, the Kings trailed 65-57. De’Aaron Fox was in top form, scoring 24 points in the first half, while Cam Thomas led the Nets with 22 points.

The Kings’ season felt like it was slipping away. Sure, it was still early, but the atmosphere inside Golden 1 Center was one of concern.

In the third quarter, the Kings finally increased their intensity. They delivered a strong defensive performance, holding the Nets to just 23 points. Offensively, the Kings scored 31 points, tying the game at 88 apiece by the end of the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Kings needed to step up to avoid a third consecutive loss. Unfortunately, they couldn’t close out the game. The Kings were outscored 20-15, resulting in a 108-103 defeat. It was a frustrating loss for the Kings, and the fans made their displeasure known as the game came to a close.

A restless Golden 1 Center began to empty after Kevin Huerter missed a three-pointer that could have kept the game alive. De’Aaron Fox continued his stellar play with 31 points, while Cam Thomas led all scorers with 34 points.

The Kings fell to 8-9 on the season, while the Nets improved to 7-10.

Up Next: The Kings remain at home to take on the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday at 7 PM PST in Golden 1 Center.

Kings Sabonis adds those double doubles his 61st in row defeats the Nets 107-77

Sacramento Kings forward Domantas Sabonis (10) and Keegan Murray forward (13) exchange congratulations against the Brooklyn Nets at Barclay Center in Brooklyn on Sun Apr 7, 2024 (AP News photo)

BROOKLYN, NY. — With only a handful of games left in the regular season, Sunday night’s game at Barclays Center mattered for the Sacramento Kings and they played like it did, dominating the Brooklyn Nets 107-77 and regaining the eighth seed.

Sacramento’s 30-point blowout win came after back-to-back road losses that caused them to slip to the ninth seed in the Western Conference.

“Our guys did what they were supposed to do tonight,” said Kings head coach Mike Brown. “Obviously Brooklyn was short-handed and our guys came in and did a heck of a job defending. What I always say, ‘Let’s play physical’. Our guys did it.”

De-Aaron Fox scored a team-leading 20 points and Domantas Sabonis had 18 points and 20 rebounds to extend his double-doubles streak to 61 games, the seventh longest in NBA history.

The teams were in a head-to-head contest to start the first quarter, but by the end of it, Sacramento led 29-19 after Fox’s 19-foot step back jump shot with a second remaining.

In the second quarter with 4:09 to go, Sabonis made a layup and his 10th point of the game. Then with 2:22 left to go, Sabonis got the rebound on a missed layup by Trendon Watford and extended his double-doubles streak. The Kings made 51.1% of their shots from the field and 43% of their attempts from behind the arc and ended the half up 65-40.

Brooklyn made a comeback effort in the third quarter, outscoring Sacramento 24-13 and cutting the Kings’ lead to 78-64. But the Kings responded with an 18-8 run in the first half of the final quarter. Fox made an impressive two-handed alley-oop dunk with 8:23 to go to give the Kings a 86-66 lead. Sacramento surpassed 100 points with 2:49 remaining, when Kessler Edwards made a triple to put them up 102-74.

“I thought our sprays were fantastic, we were six-for-12 in sprays in the first half and I thought the second half, we continued to spray the basketball. We got good looks in that third quarter. We just couldn’t make a shot, you know,” said Brown.

“But I thought our guys tried to play the right way in the third quarter and then they figured it out in the fourth.”

The Kings shot 34% from the field, which Brown called “good basketball, doesn’t matter who you’re playing against”.

Keegan Murray, who scored 19 points, noted that “every game’s important” given the team’s spot in the standings.

“We just wanted to come out with great energy and effort and I feel like we started that and it just carried over throughout the game,” said Murray. “So I feel like if every single game we start like that, we can be well off.”

Off the bench, Trey Lyles contributed 14 points and Davion Mitchell scored 12.

“I think the main thing is, just keep working on my game. I mean, no matter if I’m playing or not playing, just keep putting the time in and keep being consistent,” said Mitchell. “I mean, shots are going to fall, I need to find a way to put two halves together but we’re going to figure that out.”

When the teams last played against each other on December 11, the Kings scored 25 three-pointers and set a franchise record in the 131-118 win at home.

The Nets (31-48) are outside of playoff contention but have been continuing to show effort. Coming off back-to-back wins, they had hoped to deliver a blow to the Kings in their penultimate home game of the season.

Sacramento had slipped off the eighth seed after consecutive losses on the road against the New York Knicks on Thursday and against the Boston Celtics on Friday. The Kings lost to the Knicks 120-109 and had a painful 101-100 loss to the Celtics after a controversial no-call in the last seconds at TD Garden.

The Kings (45-33) continue their road trip facing the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday with tipoff at 5 p.m. PT.

Sacramento Kings podcast with Jeremiah Salmonson: Kings hope to rebound from loss on Sunday in Brooklyn

The Boston Celtics Jayson Tatum (0) and the Sacramento Kings Trey Lyles (right) both reach for the rebound in the first half at the Boston TD Garden on Fri Apr 5, 2024 (AP News photo)

On the Sacramento Kings podcast with Jeremiah:

#1 The Kings (44-33) faced an even greater challenge Friday night taking on the Celtics (61-16) in Boston. The loss of Malik Monk was a blow to the Kings. He suffered an MCL sprain and was declared out for four to six weeks. Friday Monk addressed the possibility of an earlier return saying that his knee is feeling a lot better than expected.

#2 After falling behind in the fourth quarter by as much as 18 points, the Kings fought back taking a one point lead 100-99 with 11 seconds left on the clock. The Celtics took back the lead 101-100 with 7.4 seconds left in the game.

#3 The Kings fought all night to come back from 18 to close the gap to one point they got help from leading scorer DeAaron Fox with 40 points and Domantas Sabonis had 16 rebounds and 16 points.

#4 The fourth quarter the Boston defense shut the Kings scoring attack down to just 17 points. The Celtics countered with 28 points in the one point win.

#5 The Kings next up are at Barclay Center in Brooklyn Sunday for a 4:30pm PDT tip. The Nets (30-47) are 11th in the Eastern Conference and battling to move up on 10th place the Atlanta Hawks. This game could be a get in the mud fight between the Kings and Nets.

Golden State Warriors podcast with Jerry Feitelberg: Warriors look to win their second straight game tonight in Philadelphia

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry (30) drives on the Brooklyn Nets center Nic Claxton (33) in first half action at the Barclay Center on Mon Feb 5, 2024. The Warriors are in Philadelphia Wed Feb 7, 2024 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia (AP News photo)

On the Golden State Warriors podcast with Jerry Feitelberg:

#1 Jerry, the Warriors pulled another one off where they had to come back from behind and they can give most of the credit to guard Stephen Curry who led with 29 points on Monday night.

#2 The Warriors also got help from Jonathan Kuminga who finished second in scoring with 28 points. Kuminga scoring played huge since he and Curry finished in large numbers to get by the Brooklyn Nets.

#3 Jerry, there was little doubt the Warriors were trying to make amends for losing to the Atlanta Hawks last Saturday after Curry put in a full on effort with 60 points only to lose it.

#4 The Warriors started the game against the Brooklyn Nets questionable hitting only two out of 11 three pointers, turned the ball over ten times, the Nets capitalized scoring 15 points on Warriors turnovers while Golden State managed to get 43 points in the first half.

#5 The Warriors have won three of their last four games and tip off against the Philadelphia 76ers at Well Fargo Center in Philadelphia for a 4:30pm PT tip. The Warriors won the last time they faced the 76ers in San Francisco on Tue Jan 30th. Golden State’s defense were able to hold back 76ers star shooter Joel Embiid for that last win.
