Warriors play better but results in another loss 117-111; Seventh loss in eight games

The Warriors met the Hawks in Atlanta Sunday night. With Stephen Curry and Draymond Green back in the lineup, the Warriors were hoping to rebound from the humiliating 53-point loss to the Toronto Raptors on Friday. Curry and Green each had a double-double, and the team played well for three quarters.

However, most NBA games are won in crunch time. The Warriors could not handle the Hawks’ two big men, Clint Capela and Danilo Gallinari, in the fourth quarter. The Warriors held a slim one-point lead 98-97 when the Hawks went on an 8-0 run to lead 105-98. The Warriors had their small lineup on the floor, and no matter how hard they tried, they could not catch Atlanta. The Hawks prevailed 117-111.

The Warriors wanted to avenge the loss to Atlanta at the Chase Center. The teams, as mentioned above, played a very tightly contested game. The Warriors led by two at the end of the first half, 59-57. They increased the lead to three 82-79 at the end of three periods of play. They knew they had a chance to win. Unfortunately for the Warriors, the Hawks made the plays, while the Warriors didn’t. Atlanta outscored the Warriors 38-29 to win by six 117-111.

Game Notes and Stats: The Warriors lost all three games on the road trip and their record for the season stands at 23-26. Atlanta, playing well under the new head coach Nate McMillan’s tutelage, improved to 26-24. With McMillan at the helm, the Hawks have won 12 of the 16 games since he became the coach.

Curry led the Warriors with 37 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Curry made two threes in 12 tries. Green finished the night with a double-double. Green’s line was 11 points, seven boards, and 11 assists. Kelly Oubre, Jr. was second in scoring with 20, Andrew Wiggins had 16. Damion Lee led the bench with nine.

The Warriors, as a team, shot 46% from the floor and connected on ten threes in 40 attempts. They held the Hawks to 43% from the floor. The Hawks were 12-for-32 from downtown. The big difference in the game was free throws. The Warriors were 15-for-21 from the charity stripe. The Hawks were 35-for 45 from the free-throw line. They scored 20 more points in that department than the Warriors. Those 20 points helped secure the win for Atlanta.

The Warriors return home to face the Milwaukee Bucks at the Chase Center Tuesday night. The Bucks blew out the Warriors 132-99 in the second game of the season. Milwaukee is 32-17 for the year and is in third place in the Eastern Conference.

The visiting Atlanta Hawks displayed a potent offense as they sent the Golden State Warriors down to their fourth straight defeat 124-108. For the second night in a row, the Warriors had no answers to stop the Hawks’ attack.

It seemed as if it were deja vu all over again as the Hawks scored 70 points in the first half to lead by 18 points 70-52. The Sacramento Kings scored 71 points Thursday night against Golden State. The Warriors could not get anything going on either end of the court. The Hawks shot a blistering 65% from the floor. They were 6-for-11 from the three-point arc. They outrebounded the Warriors 29-14. The Warriors’ Andrew Wiggins was the only player in double figures with 17 points. The Hawks were paced by power forward John Collins and point guard Trae Young, and each had 16 points.

The Warriors played better in the second half. They outscored the Hawks 56-54, but it was not enough to overcome the 18-point halftime deficit. The Hawks scored 30 or more points in the first three quarters. The Kings scored 30 or more points in all four quarters against the Warriors Thursday night. The streak ended when the Warriors held the Hawks to 24 in the fourth quarter.

Game Notes and Stats: The Warriors are now 22-24 for the year. Atlanta improved to 23-22.

Andrew Wiggins led the Warriors with 29 points. He made four threes. Rookie James Wiseman played much better Friday night. His stat line was 18 points and five rebounds. Jordan Poole had 15 points, Kelly Oubre had 14 points, and Nico Mannion had 10 points. In his first game in a week, Eric Paschall recorded eight points in eight minutes on the court. Draymond Green recorded nine assists. Draymond, for some unknown reason, did not attempt a shot.

The Warriors shot 50% from the floor and made 12 threes in 28 tries.

The Hawks outrebounded them 52-38. The Hawks’ defense forced 14 Warrior turnovers, and the Hawks scored 22 points due to the miscues.

The Warriors’ defense could not stop John Collins. The big forward had a double-double with a career-high 38 points and 12 rebounds. He connected on four threes in five attempts. Two other Hawk players finished the night with a double-double. Their big center, Clint Capela, recorded 18 points and 15 boards. Capela was 8-for-10 from the floor. Trae Young had 21 points and 15 assists. Former Sacramento King, Bogdan Bogdanovic, had 11 points. Danilo Gallinari added 12 points.

The Warriors are 1-6 without Steph Curry in the lineup and are 3-9 in their last 12 games.

Up Next: The Warriors are off until Monday night when they play the revamped Chicago Bulls. The game will start at 7 pm PST.

The Sacramento Kings were back in action on Wednesday night after an off day on Tuesday. The Kings last played on Monday as they took on the Cleveland Cavaliers. On Wednesday, the Kings on Wednesday managed to beat the Hawks at home by a final of 110-108.

Flashback Monday: The Kings took care of business against a rebuilding Cleveland squad. The Kings never really trailed in the game as they beat or matched the Cavs in each of the four quarters. It was a win the Kings should have gotten and Kings fans were happy they executed.

Wednesday Night Recap: The Kings were set to take on the Atlanta Hawks at 7:00 PM PST at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.

In the first half, it was a pretty even contest. The Kings outscored the Hawks 29-27 in the opening quarter as the Kings came out of the gate motivated. In the second quarter, neither team could really find a defensive rhythm as the Hawks outscored the Kings 30-28. Going into halftime, the game was up for grabs with the score tied at 57 apiece. The Kings looked to avoid a third quarter slump and come out strong in the second half.

In the second half, the Kings defense was sporadic. The Kings managed to hold the Hawks to only 17 points in the third as the Kings put up 27. This launched the Kings into the driver’s seat heading into the final quarter up by 10 points. In the fourth quarter, the Hawks made a run, but ultimately came up short. Atlanta outscored the Kings by a mighty 34-25 and almost took the game from Sacramento. However, the Kings prevailed by a final of 110-108. It was a hard-fought win for the Kings, who seemed to step up when it counted. De’Aaron Fox led all scorers in the game with 37 points as Trae Young managed 29 points in the contest for the Hawks. The Kings look to keep the momentum going in their next contest.

Up Next: The Kings stay home to take on the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night at 7 PM PST.

Sacramento Kings game wrap: Hawks just too much for Kings to handle 121-106

The Sacramento Kings came into Saturday nights game against the Atlanta Hawks in Atlanta feeling good. But after the game they felt a lot worse than before the game getting their feelings hurt by the Hawks 121-106. The Kings have lost eight of their last ten games.

Flashback  Thursday: The Kings came out of the All Star break on Thursday playing the Houston Rockets in which they beat 125-105. In the Rockets game, the Kings dominated most of the game. De’Aaron Fox led the the way with 30 points for the Kings. The Kings would be looking to continue the start to the second half against the Hawks in Atlanta at 4:30 PM PST.

Saturday night recap: In the first half, The Kings struggled mightily. However, you wouldn’t know if if you only watched the first quarter. The Kings out scored the Hawks 33-22 in the first quarter in what seemed to be solid offense and defense.

The second quarter, things went downhill for the Kings who only managed 18 points as the Hawks lit up the Kings defense by scoring 38. In the second half the Kings would need to make up a 61-51 deficit.

In the second half, the Kings weren’t able to recover. The Kings were outscored 37-30 in the third as all potential of a comeback appeared to be lost. In the fourth quarter, the Kings defense improved but not enough to make a comeback.

The Kings held the Hawks to 23 points in the fourth but were only able to score 25 points themselves. The Kings would lose the game 121-106. De’Aaron Fox led the way for the Kings as the games leading scorer at 32 points. Trae Young led the way for the Hawks with 28 points.

It was a disappointing showing for the Kings as they will look to get back on track in their next game.

Next up: The Kings will travel to Charlotte to take on the Hornets at 4 PM PST.

On the Sacramento Kings podcast with Jeremiah:

#1 The Sacramento Kings (15-22) continue to show improvement getting a win against the Houston Rockets (11-24) at Golden One Center in Sacramento on Thursday night 125-105.

#2 This win showed that since they defeated the Los Angeles Lakers and narrowly lost to the Portland Trailblazers there has been some improvement over the course of the last three games.

#3 The Kings De’Aaron Fox continues to have strong offensive nights leading the Kings in scoring against the Rockets with 30.

#4 Anytime you get three players finishing second in scoring with 20 points Harrison Barnes, Richaun Holmes, and Buddy Hield it speaks volumes to offense that needs to get back on track.

#5 The Kings travel to Atlanta to face the Hawks (17-20) on Sat Mar 13th. The Hawks have won five of their last eight games so this might be a little bit more of a challenge than this last game with Houston.

A dreary season continues for the Golden State Warriors, as they fell to the visiting Sacramento Kings 100-79 Sunday at Chase Center.

The 79 points matched a season low for the struggling Warriors.

Bogdan Bogdanovich led the Kings (12-14) with 25 points, along with 19 points by Buddy Hield.

The Kings defeated Golden State (5-23) for only the fourth time in the last 25 games between the neighboring rivals, going back to 2013-14.

Willie Cauley-Stein was the Warriors’ top scorer with 14 points.

Golden State has used 14 different lineups this season. Damion Lee started at the 2-guard — his first career start as a Warrior — and Glenn Robinson III returned to small forward. Lee scored 10 points in the first half.

Warriors forward Eric Paschall missed his second straight game with left hip soreness, but Coach Steve Kerr told the press corps he anticipates Paschall’s return on Wednesday at Portland.

Sacramento led 51-42 at halftime and put the game away by outscoring the Warriors 28-17 in the third quarter.

The 18 points scored by Golden State in the first quarter was not their season low for the opening period; that happened on Oct. 14 with 14 points in the opening 12 minutes against Phoenix.

Mired in last place in the NBA Pacific Division, the Warriors trail Atlanta, New York and New Orleans (6-21) for the league’s worst record.

Hawks fly past the Warriors 104-79 in Atlanta

By Ana Kieu

The Golden State Warriors arrived in Atlanta with the hopes of snapping a 2-game losing skid with a win over the equally lowly Atlanta Hawks on Monday night.

The Warriors’ starting five featured Alex Burks, Glenn Robinson III, Eric Paschall, Kevon Looney, and Willie Cauley-Stein.

Golden State started things off with a Willie Cauley-Stein slam early in the first quarter. The Warriors made the game tough for the Hawks in the first, and on another note, Marquese Chriss flew high and knocked down a jumper. The Warriors led 23-20 at the end of the first.

Atlanta, however, stormed back in the second quarter. The Hawks outscored the Warriors 29-17 in the second, thanks to some key plays such as the De’Andre Hunter bucket, which was perfection. The Warriors trailed 49-40 at the halftime break.

Both the Warriors and the Hawks turned defense into offense in the third quarter, but it was Atlanta who made things happen at home. De’Andre Hunter continued to make it with buckets on his 22nd birthday. The Hawks then took a 20-point lead, which likely shocked the Warriors, who entered the game with a similar record.

Atlanta put the game out of reach, but Golden State had something to be thankful for. Eric Paschall scored 20 points, which helped him have his seventh 20-point game of the season (7-of-9 from the field) along with 8 rebounds and 5 assists.

Atlanta showed no signs of slowing down, and frankly, didn’t play much in the final minute of the fourth quarter. The Hawks won 104-79.

With the win, Atlanta improved to 5-16. With the loss, Golden State fell to 4-18.

Eric Paschall led the Warriors with 24 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. Alec Burks scored 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. Ky Bowman had 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. Omari Spellman had 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 1 assist. Marquese Chriss had 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 assist. Glenn Robinson III had 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist. Willie Cauley-Stein had 4 points and 4 rebounds. Kevon Looney added 2 points and 2 rebounds.

The Warriors visit the Charlotte Hornets in Charlotte, N.C. on Wednesday, December 4 at 4 pm PST.

Sacramento Kings podcast with Charlie O: Kings going for their fourth win in five games tonight in Sacramento

sacbee.com file photo: The Sacramento Kings De’Aaron Fox drives on the Toronto Raptors defense on Nov 6th game at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. Fox is out with an ankle injury for unknown amount of time.

On the Kings podcast with Charlie O:

#1 The Kings have won three of their last four games, including a win over the Atlanta Hawks 121-109. Were these games a matter of surprise wins for Sacramento or just hard work starting to pay off for the Kings?

#2 The Sacramento Kings’ Buddy Hield scored 22 points and Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 20 points in the game against the Hawks.

#3 The game was on the Hawks floor, and try as they may, the Hawks could barely keep up with the Kings. The Kings have some very quick players and the Hawks lost by 12

#4 Talk about the Kings defense. They seemed to maintain the Hawks throughout the game and were able to establish winning and their defense worked in the fourth quarter.

#5 The Kings host the Portland Trail Blazers Tuesday night at Golden 1 Center in downtown Sacramento. You’ve seen them win on this road trip. Could their odds go up a little bit for Tuesday night’s game having the home floor?
