Kings Lose Despite 43 Points From Fox- Portland Bench Dominates in 130-113 win

It was a dismal game for the Sacramento Kings (17-12) Tuesday night losing to the Portland Trail Blazers (80-21). Portland’s bench turned in 60 points to the Kings 15 off the bench. DeAaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis had amazing games but got little support from teammates losing 130-113. Fox tied a season-high in this game. No other Sacramento player scored in double digits.

Tuesday night the Kings took on the Trail Blazers at Moda Center. Back in early November the Kings beat the Trail Blazers in overtime 121-118. Despite their record, the Trail Blazers gave the Kings all they could handle. Sacramento needed to start fast and set the pace and tone of the game. 

The Kings are coming off a loss to the Timberwolves Saturday night 110-98 and the Trail Blazers lost as well on Saturday to the Golden State Warriors 126-106. 

The Kings Malik Monk was still struggling with a right foot irritation missing the game on Saturday. He had been trying to play through the injury and did take the floor in this game. The Kings really needed his shooting and playmaking abilities. 

They leaned heavily on De’Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis and Keegan Murray in this game. Both Deandre Ayton and Shaedon Sharpe missed the game for Portland. Ayton is dealing with right knee tendinitis and Sharpe were out with a right adductor strain.

Game reacap: The first half was not the start that the Kings were looking for. While they did win the opening quarter, it was far too close for comfort 33-32. The Trail Blazers got the upper hand in the second quarter leading at the half 67-60. 

Portland won the second quarter 35-27. Keegan Murray played for 15 minutes in the first half coming away empty. Both Fox and Sabonis had good first halves but really needed the support of Keegan Murray and Kevin Huerter. Portland was outshooting the Kings from the floor, and from downtown keeping their turnovers to a minimum with only five.

The Trail Blazers continued to extend their lead in the third quarter. Portland had led by seven points at the half and after three quarters led by nine points 104-95. At one time in the quarter the Kings got to within three points only to let it slip away. 

Sacramento had trailed by as much as 13 points but were able to cut the deficit at times. They were unfortunately unable to take the lead. Fox and Sabonis were having monster games. Going into the fourth quarter Fox had 38 points and Sabonis with 30. 

They were getting little support from Murray or Huerter who had eight points between them.  Monk had seven points but he was more than likely hampered by the irritation in his right foot. 

Early in the fourth quarter, the Kings trailed by 15 points 115-100 in a game that they had the talent to win. The Trail Blazers was getting some great play from their bench with a combined 60 points to the Kings anemic 15 points. 

With eight minutes left in the game, Sacramento was running out of time. Rather than cutting the deficit, the Kings continued to fall further behind trailing 122-105 with under six minutes left on the clock. 

With under five minutes Portland was winning the fourth quarter 23-12 after having won the third 37-35. The Trail Blazers had this game well in hand with 3:36 left in the game leading 127-111. 

Fox played his heart out finishing with 43 points and Sabonis came away with 34 points and 12 rebounds. They got little help from the rest of the starting lineup. Harrison Barnes scored nine points with five rebounds and next to nothing from Murray and Huerter. 

The bench was not much help with a total of 17 points when the Trail Blazer bench finished with 60 points. Portland’s starters finished with 65 points and the Kings starters produced 96 points. The Trail Blazers bench put this game away.

The Kings will now travel to Atlanta for a match-up next Friday taking on the Hawks. The challenge that Sacramento will face will come from Trae Young as the Kings try to turn things around on Friday. The Hawks also have a great bench player in Bogdan Bogdanovic who also presents a threat. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 PM.  

   

 

Road Loses Continue To Pile Up For Warriors – Lose To Hawks 127-119

Road Loses Continue To Pile Up For Warriors – Lose To Hawks 127-119

Friday night the Golden State Warriors (36-35) met the Atlanta Hawks (35-35) at State Farm Arena. The Warriors dropped the first game of this road trip to the Los Angeles Clippers 134-126. Every road loss pushes the Warriors further and further away from their ultimate goal a playoff spot.

At home the Warriors are the number two team shooting from beyond the arc but on the road they make whoever they are playing look like world champions. The differential is uncanny as the Warriors seven wins on the road this season and they didn’t get their eighth road win against the Hawks losing 127-119.

Game recap: The Warriors got off to a good start in the first quarter taking a 16-4 lead in the opening minutes. With three minutes left in the quarter the game was tied at 27 and the Hawks had turned this game completely around leading after the first 12 minutes 39-31. There was a bit of trouble brewing after the first quarter for Golden State.

The Hawks continued to lead through most of the second quarter. With 3:25 left in the first half, the Warriors trailed 61-58 and were looking to take the lead into the locker room. Golden State could not get anything going even though they had more rebounds and more field goals.

They struggled from beyond the arc and that was the difference. The Warriors shot at 26.3% while the Hawks had a 39.1% winning the battle from outside. The Hawks led after two quarters 71-66. The Warriors also had nine turnovers in the first half. The Golden State starters all had double digits with the exception of Jonathan Kuminga who was right on the edge with eight points. The Warriors had some work to do in the second half in this must win game.

The Warriors continued to trail in the third quarter. While they did have numerous open shots not a lot of them were dropping. At 5:42 in the third quarter the Warriors trailed 89-77 in yet another shocker on the road. The Warriors were having a miserable three-point shooting night. After three the Hawks led 104-96.

The Warriors did pull to within one point in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter but just could not get over the hump. Golden State was 11 of 40 on three’s a shocking stat.

This was a collective horror show for the Warriors. The three’s failed hitting 11 of 40. They are now seven and 28 on the road. Six players had double digits in the game with Stephen Curry hitting the high with 31 points. Kevon Looney had 16 rebounds and 18 points. Golden State will have to pull it together as they head to Memphis tonight.

There will be little time for the Warriors to digest this one as they take on the Memphis Grizzlies tomorrow with tipoff scheduled for 5:00 PM.

The Golden State Warriors (36-34) guard Stephen Curry carried the Warriors on his back scoring 50 points but it wasn’t enough as Golden State lost their 27th road game of the season dropping their road record to 7-27. The Warriors took a beating at Crypto.com Arena to the Los Angeles Clippers (37-33).

Regardless the Clippers were able to get their own offensive house in order and keep up with Golden State with the Clippers Kawhi Leonard who led with 30 points and was followed up by guard Paul George with 24 points. Curry tried to save the game by going on a scoring clinic in the fourth quarter of the game.

Nonetheless the Clippers Leonard kept the Warriors at bay on the scoreboard and the Clippers defense well enough to keep the Warriors away for the win with the help of George. In spite of all the hard work by Curry the Warriors just couldn’t keep up and lost by eight 134-126.

“You know they are going to make big runs, but we kept our composure, stayed steady and executed on the offensive end,” Leonard said in the post game presser. Leonard has been hot of late this was his fourth 30 point game in the last eight games he also went 10-19, had eight rebounds and five assists on Wednesday night.

This was a crucial game for Golden State they were on the Clippers heels placing fifth place in the NBA Western Conference standings but their issues of winning road games continue and having won only seven games on the road is just a little more than a snake bitten problem. Losing Draymond Green for their next game in Atlanta on Friday suspended for accruing his 16th technical foul. The Clippers on other hand have won four straight and move into fourth place in Western Conference.

Players who receive 16 technical fouls plus two additional technical fouls are suspended for one game. At 40.8 seconds left in the contest Green picked up the technical after throwing a ball against the Clippers Russell Westbrook’s face after Westbrook scored a layup.

Andre Iguodala will have wrist surgery. Iguodala injured his wrist on Mon Mar 13th at the Chase Center while playing against the Phoenix Suns. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr did not know when Iguodala will return and said that his injury is a great loss for the team.

The Warriors will try to pick up their eighth road win in Atlanta this Friday a 4:30 pm tip. The Hawks (34-35) have won five of their last ten games and are slightly over .500 for their season home record at 18-15.

#1 The Kings welcomed the Atlanta Hawks to town on Wednesday at 7 PM PST. Trae Young and former Kings guard Bogdan Bogdanovic. The Kings fell at home to the Hawks 120-117.

#2 The Kings and Hawks both scored 30 points in the first quarter. The Kings and the Hawks couldn’t get into any sort of rhythm on the offensive end. Domas Sabonis and De’Aaron Aaron supplied most of the Kings offense, starting with six points each.

SACRAMENTO–The Sacramento Kings were back in action on Wednesday night. The Kings were on the second night of a back-to-back. On Tuesday, the Kings narrowly defeated the Utah Jazz in Utah. Directly after the game, they returned to Sacramento for the game on Wednesday.

The Kings welcomed the Atlanta Hawks to town on Wednesday at 7 PM PST. Trae Young and former Kings guard Bogdan Bogdanovic. The Kings fell at home to the Hawks 120-117.

The first quarter was an underwhelming performance for the Kings on the offensive end. The Kings defense was playing well and forcing many errors on the Hawks. The Kings and Hawks both scored 30 points in the first quarter. The Kings and the Hawks couldn’t get into any sort of rhythm on the offensive end. Domas and De’Aaron supplied most of the Kings offense, starting with six points each.

The second quarter was more of the same for the Kings. The defense kept up, but the offense needed help finding a rhythm. The Kings shots seemed to be missing at the worst possible times, and were lagging behind Atlanta. The Hawks outscored the Kings in the second quarter 31-28. The Kings would take a 61-58 deficit into halftime. If they wanted to win the game, the offense would need to improve. Domas led the Kings in the first half with 14 points as John Collins did the same for the Hawks with 12 points.

In the third quarter, the Kings hung in the game. They didn’t make up any ground on the Atlanta Hawks but they also didn’t fall any furhter behind. On a night where the kings shooting seemed to be letting them down they hung in.

The Kings scored 30 points in the third quarter as they kept pace with the Hawks who also scored 30. The score going into the final quarter was the Kings down 91-88. Kevin Huerter led the Kings through three quarters with 18 points. De’Andre Hunter and John Collins were leading the Hawks in scoring; both players had 18 points. The Kings would need an offensive explosion on the final quarter to take down the Hawks.

In the fourth quarter, the Kings just couldn’t get it done. They battled but were unable to stop the Hawks offense. That doesn’t tell the whole story. The Kings did come back and take the lead late in the fourth quarter. In fact, they were up four points with just over a minute left. However, sloppy defense and some kissed free throws were the kiss of death for the Kings at they dropped the game.

The Kings and Hawks both scored 29 points in the final quarter. It was a disappointing game for the Kings after taking the lead but that is the way it goes in the NBA. It is a game of runs and clutch shots and the Hawks had one more than the Kings on Wednesday. De’Aaron Fox led the way for the Kings with 25 points. Hunter and Collins led the way for the Hawks in victory both scoring 22 points.

Up Next: The Kings will welcome “The King” Lebron James and the Lakers to the Golden 1 Center Saturday at 7 PM PST.

Warriors Win Crazy Double Overtime vs Hawks 143-141

Monday night the Golden State Warriors (20-18) took on the Atlanta Hawks (17-20) to pick up their fifth straight win 143-141 as they continued their home-stand. The Warriors were missing Andrew Wiggins due to illness and James Wiseman (left ankle sprain) and Jonathan Kuminga (right foot sprain) also were out for the game. The Hawks in this game dropped their fourth straight game to hand the Warriors a double overtime victory.

Game recap: The Warriors got another great start in this game. Klay Thompson was still shooting lights out finishing the first quarter with 17 points. Golden State led after the first 12 minutes 38-26.

The Warriors took that energy into the second quarter and continued to extend their lead. The Hawks struggled on defense and Golden State took full advantage. The Warriors were shooting close to 54% and had extended their lead at the half to 70-53. The second quarter went to the Warriors 32-27.

Thompson had 22 points in the first half of play. Jordan Poole had 12 and off the bench Anthony Lamb had 13 points.

Last Friday the Hawks got a nightmare second quarter from the Warriors. Tonight it was a horrific third quarter for Golden State. They let a 21 point lead vanish and found themselves tied at 95 as the third quarter wrapped up. The Hawks won the third quarter in convincing style 42-25 in a dramatic turnaround.

Atlanta took a significant lead in the fourth quarter and it looked for a time like the winning streak would come to an end. Donte Divincenzo had yet another desperately needed three tied that up this game with six seconds left on the clock. It was on to overtime.

As overtime got underway it became painfully apparent that the Warriors offensive flow had left the building. The Hawks got off to a five point advantage but Golden State fought back and tied this game at 132 with 13.7 left on the clock. The Warriors were unable to take a shot in the final seconds and so it was on to double overtime.

It seems as if the Warriors have a different hero every time. Tied at 141 with 7.6 left on the clock it was Kevon Looney with a tip-in for the improbable win 143-141.

There were so many heroes in this game tonight. Thompson finished this game with an unbelievable 54 points. Divincenzo got the Warriors into the overtime scenario with a shot from downtown with six seconds left in the game. Draymond Green got the Warriors into the second overtime with a clutch three and Kevon Looney sealed the deal with the tip-in as the clock expired.

The Hawks caught fire in the second half. Trae Young finished with 30 pts. Collins and Murray had 25 points apiece. Off the bench Bogdanovic had a great game with 21 points.

The Warriors got their offense going in the closing minutes of each of the overtimes. This game could not have been closer but Golden State wanted this win and fought tooth and nail to extend their winning streak to five.

The Warriors will take on the Pistons Wednesday night. They will regroup and get a bit of a breather tomorrow. This was a physically draining game for both teams and Golden State will really need tomorrow off. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 at Chase Center on Wednesday.

#1 The Golden State Warriors (19-18) had a brilliant first quarter taking an early 9-0 lead and with under three minutes left in the opening quarter had stretched out that lead to 18, 33-15 against the Portland Trailblazers (18-17).

#2 Jordan Poole and Klay Thompson had a great quarter giving their team a 41-25 lead after the first 12 minutes. It was an explosive start for the Warriors to open the game this way.

#3 Poole had 22 points in the first half, his seventh game shooting for 20 or more in a half. Thompson had 15 points and Ty Jerome had nine off the bench including a last second 47 foot shot to end the first quarter.

#4 Portland had a couple of turnovers and with 22 seconds on the clock Divincenzo hit a monster three to take a 118-112 lead. The Warriors finished the game on a 16-2 run in an unlikely win keeping their win streak intact. They are now 16-2 at home.

#5 The Warriors host the Atlanta Hawks (17-19) tonight at Chase Center in San Francisco for a 7:00pm tip off. The Hawks were defeated in their last game Friday 130-121 by the Los Angeles Lakers. The Hawks have lost six out of their last ten games how do you see tonight’s match up?

Kings Winning Streak Halted At Seven- Losing To Hawks 115-106

Wednesday night the Sacramento Kings (10-7) took on the Atlanta Hawks (11-7) at State Farm Arena. The Kings are coming off a win over Memphis Tuesday 113-109 while the Hawks lost to the Cavaliers on Monday 114-102.

The Kings trailed at the half 72-57. Sacramento lost the first quarter 35-26 and the second quarter 37-31. The Kings were struggling defensively and were challenged in trying to contain the Hawks Trae Young. The Kings had a lot of trouble getting those three’s to fall as they missed shot after shot from downtown. Turnovers were also mounting as the game went on.

The Kings made up some ground in the third quarter winning it 31-25.

Sacramento got to within seven points in the fourth quarter but the Hawks answered every time extending their lead with shots from outside. As the clock began to wear down, the Kings had 19 turnovers which Atlanta took advantage of to the tune of 17 points.

The Kings seven game winning streak was in jeopardy with 2:39 left in the game. Sacramento had so many opportunities but their downfall beyond the turnovers were the missed three’s. They were eight of 29 from downtown. With 48.6 left on the clock Young said good night to the Kings with yet another shot from downtown. The final was 115-106.

Atlanta Prevails Over Golden State 121-110

After the incredible win against the Eastern Conference leading Miami Heat (47-27), the Warriors (48-26) took on the Hawks (37-37) in Atlanta Friday night. The young’uns played the game of their lives on Wednesday and it sure would have been fun to see them again in tonight’s game but with Klay Thompson and Draymond Green back on the court the starting roster will look different.

Chances are that those guys were pretty tired after the Magic game playing more minutes than they are used to under normal circumstances. Jordan Poole and Jonathan Kuminga would join Thompson, Green and Wiggins to start this game.

There have been ups and downs in the month of March for the Warriors so what we would see tonight was uncertain. We were soon to find out.

The first quarter was the start that we hoped for from the Warriors. Golden State was leading after the first twelve minutes 42-36. Poole and Thompson had an amazing start in this game. 42 points in one quarter was a great start for the team.

The Warriors led by as much a 11 points in the second quarter but fell behind to trail 69-67 after two quarters. Thompson and Poole continued to lead the team but there were three missed threes in the late minutes of the half. The Warriors were having a great offensive game but they needed more defense having allowed the Hawks to shoot 60% in the first half. There was some work to do in the second half.

The Warriors offense had cooled significantly in the third quarter as the Hawks took a nine point lead 86-77 mid-way through the quarter. Trae Young was making life pretty miserable for Golden State, taking over the game. The Warriors offense needed to wake up since they had pretty much gone to sleep. The offense we saw in the first quarter was no where to be found. They trailed 101-83 after three.

When it looked as if the Warriors were doomed in this game they came storming back in the fourth quarter trailing by five points with 5:12 left in the game. There were some anxious moments in the game when if looked as if Jordan Poole had been pinned with his fifth foul.

After a review it was determined that he did not foul and the Warriors would still have Poole on the floor. The Warriors desperately needed some defense and just could not produce any. The Hawks came away with a 121-110 win.

Despite Golden State overcoming an 18 point deficit to pull within three points the Hawks had just enough left in the tank to beat Golden State.

The offense in the first quarter of this game was a good one and when this game finished Thompson had scored 37 points and Poole with 24. Gary Payton II had 14 points off the bench. The third quarter was the turning point for the Warriors. The Hawks outscored Golden State in that quarter 32-16 and that spelled another loss for the Warriors.

The Warriors will continue their road trip on Sunday taking on the Washington Wizards. Tipoff is schedule for 3:00 PM.
