The Oakland A’s open a three-game set at the Oakland Coliseum starting Friday night with the Detroit Tigers. These are not your 2012 Tigers who went to the World Series that season. The aging Bengals have Miguel Cabrera out with a torn triceps and Victor Martinez is near the end of his career.

The Tigers’ best hitter is Nick Castellanos, who was on the American League All-Star team, and the most potent hitter on the club. The Tigers’ dealing of former pitchers Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander certainly impacted the Tigers’ rotation and it really hasn’t recovered since then. The Tigers are 47-62 and 13 games out of first place in the AL Central.

The A’s are the hottest team in the Majors, winning 30 of their last 37 games and coming off a sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays. The A’s improved to second place in the wild card race, catching the Seattle Mariners in the AL West. The A’s made up for an 11-game deficit, coming all the way back to catch the M’s.

Tonight, the Tigers will start Blake Hardy (4-3, 3.61 ERA), and for the A’s, Brett Anderson (2-3, 5.51 ERA).

The Oakland A’s Sean Manaea picked up win #10 (10-7) as he didn’t surrender a run on five Toronto Blue Jay hits, going six innings, one run earned, and five strikeouts. Manaea had a lot of his pitches working for him on Wednesday to keep the Blue Jays off balance and was also able to keep runners off base.

A’s reliever JD Wendelken came in to relieve for Manaea in the seventh loaded the bases, but got the third out and came away unscathed except for one run in the 8-3 five-run win for Oakland. Part of the success for the A’s in July was their lineup hit consistently with an average of .290. They were able to make a number of comebacks in late innings.

The A’s have Thursday off and have three games with the Detroit Tigers at the Coliseum starting Friday night. For the Tigers, Blaine Hardy (4-3), and for the A’s, Brett Anderson (2-3), to open the series.

They’re known as Protect Oakland’s Shoreline Economy who put out a flyer explaining why the Oakland A’s shouldn’t build at Jack London Square that it would impact traffic conditions, that hundreds of millions of tax dollars would be blown on a project that could be used for infrastructure for other city projects.

So who was behind such a flyer? According to the San Francisco Chronicle, there is a company that does scrap recycling next door to the proposed site and they deny having anything to do about the flyer but it was reported that former Senator Don Perata who had been advising the scrap plant about the stadium build.

The language in the flyer looked a lot similar to a prepared report for the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum Authority board of directors. Oakland A’s team president David Kaval said he didn’t know who wrote the flyer and never heard any complaints from the company or neighbors from Jack London Square. Kaval said that on the contrary the neighbors are in favor of the new park and see it as a economic improvement to the neighborhood.

The Oakland A’s are rip roaring with 27 wins out of their last 34, a four-game sweep, four triples in a four-game series with the Rangers. The A’s led the way with the four triples and the A’s outfielder Steven Piscotty said there’s a new hero everyday in this ball club.

The A’s leadoff hitter Nick Martini in two at bats on Thursday connected for two hits and scored two runs himself while picking up an RBI. All the runs counted in this one as the A’s got by the Rangers by a run, 7-6.

The A’s open a three-game series in Denver starting tonight at Coors Field. It’s not a hitter’s park. The Rockies have a shot at being that one club that could cool down the red-hot A’s. They’re at home at Coors. They’re third in the NL West, just two games out of first behind the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers and they have the talent to make a run at the postseason. Come to think of it, so do the A’s.

It’s time to come back to another comeback! The A’s have now won 26 of 33 games taking the first three games of the four-game series in Texas on comeback wins. Pitching hasn’t done it, but the A’s offense had to come back and get these wins, but eventually.

The A’s will need some help from their starting pitching to hold opponents early in the games. Closer Blake Treinen, who picked up his 26th save of the season on Wednesday night continues to shut the door. A’s designated hitter Khris Davis has gone deep six times since Sunday through Wednesday. No matter what you throw him, he can find it.

A’s play game four of this four-game series tonight in Arlington as they try to win their sixth straight game. It’s a classic match up–A’s Trevor Cahill (1-2) vs. Rangers starter Barolo Colon (5-8).

#1 The Oakland A’s wasted no time taking the first game of this current four-game series in Arlington with a 15-3 win on Monday night.

#2 A’s catcher Jonathan Lucroy belted a second inning grand slam to get the offense started. Lucroy gets his second home run of the season.

#3 The St. Louis Cardinals’ Daniel Poncedeleon threw no hit ball for seven innings and is MLB’s fifth pitcher to debut to go that far. Poncedeleon was lifted after the seventh due to the pitch count. He hit 116 pitches.

#4 The San Francisco Giants, who lost two three-game series to the Oakland A’s, will be in Seattle starting tonight. The Mariners are going red-hot second place in the AL West and have been tough customers in the first half of the season.

#5 He might not be able to pitch, but the Los Angeles Angels’ Shohei Ohtani went deep, hitting a 435-foot shot to center for his eighth home run on Monday night.

Oakland A’s podcast with Joey Friedman: A’s Jackson tries to avenge from last week’s loss to Giants tonight

The Oakland A’s open up a three-game series starting tonight at the Oakland Coliseum with A’s starter Edwin Jackson 1-1, who is on the upside of his career, when you compare it with San Francisco Giants starter Dereck Rodriguez, who is 4-1 and the son of former catcher and Hall of Famer Pudge Rodriguez.

Jackson, who’s on his 13th MLB team, has done a very nice job in the starting role for the A’s, and in his last start, he faced the Giants at AT&T Park last weekend in game one of the Bay Bridge Series before the All-Star Break.

Jackson pitched for six innings and gave up two runs and ended up losing that game to the Giants. Jackson looks to improve his performance against the Giants. Jackson doesn’t have the best numbers against the Giants, but it’ll be interesting to see what Jackson can do against the Giants to open the Bay Bridge Series at the Coliseum tonight.
