Three Homers A Huge Part of Giants Win In Game One Vs Phillies 10-4

The San Francisco Giants (12-4) got off to a great start in their series with the Philadelphia Phillies (9-7) winning game one 10-4. The Giants knocked three balls out of the park off the bats of Tyler Fitzgerald, Willy Adames and Mike Yastrzemski. Beside the home run, Fitzgerald had two additional hits and San Francisco had gotten off to a great start in this series.

Game wrap: It was a hot start for the home team as the Phillies took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Trea Turner doubled Bryson Stott home for the early 1-0 lead. They built on that lead off a Nick Castellanos single driving Turner home extending their lead 2-0.

The Phillies finished off the inning with another run when Max Kepler grounded into a fielder’s choice to third and Kyle Schwarber scored. With the 3-0 Philadelphia lead the Giants had some work to do and they got on it early.

San Francisco got going in the second inning after a quiet start in the first inning. The hit-a-thon got underway with a Wilmer Flores single driving Heliot Ramos home followed by Patrick Bailey grounding into a fielder’s choice and LaMonte Wade scoring on a Philly error.

With the score 3-2 in favor of Philadelphia, the home runs starting flying out of the park, the first one a Tyler Fitzgerald shot to left with Flores and Bailey on base. Their second home run of the second inning was an Willy Adames hit to right center, a solo, and the Giants had taken a 6-3 lead.

Neither team would score until the bottom of the fifth inning; a Philly solo home run off the bat of Nick Castellanos, and the Phillies continued to trail going into the sixth inning 6-4 but they had made up a little ground.

Giant pitcher Landon Roupp finished the game going five innings allowing six hits, four runs, three walks and eight strikeouts. Roupp was relieved in the sixth inning by Randy Rodriguez. Erik Miller took over on the mound in the seventh inning.

San Francisco created a little more breathing room in the the top of the seventh inning keeping the Phillies at bay and taking an 8-4 lead. Mike Yastremski hit the Giants third home run of the game with Tyler Fitzgerald on base.

San Francisco already had nine hits through seven innings. The top of the Philly batting order came to the plate in the bottom of the seventh. Brice Harper singled and a Castellanos walk gave the Phillies an opening with two outs.

The Phillies had left a lot of runners on base so far in this game and they continued on this path to close out the inning leaving Harper and Castellanos stranded. San Francisco relief pitcher Erik Miller had gotten out of a sticky situation going into the eighth inning.

Tyler Rogers came in from the bullpen taking over to start the bottom of the eighth inning. It was a Tyler Rogers kind of inning; three up three down and the Giants were three outs away from winning game one of the series.

San Francisco added to their lead in the top of the ninth inning. Mike Yastrzemski doubled Fitzgerald home and the Giants extended their already healthy lead to 9-4. Matt Chapman got another run batted in, Yastrzemski scoring, and with the lead 10-4 in favor of the Giants, the Phillies had one more chance in the bottom of the ninth.

San Francisco was three outs away from winning game one of the series. Camilo Doval closed the game with a three up three down inning to finish off the Phillies 10-4. The Giants are now 8-2 on the road.

Game notes: After winning their series over the weekend against the New York Yankees, the Giants were back on the field Monday taking on the Phillies. This series got underway in much more temperate conditions than in New York, a welcome relief for San Francisco and also welcomed by the fans.

The stadium was buzzing with 40,000 plus fans on a Monday night. The Phillies had lost their weekend series to the St. Louis Cardinals. In Monday’s matchup, the Giants sent Landon Roupp who pitched five innings and gave up six hits and four runs struck out eight hitters. For the Phillies Taijuan Walker pitched five innings, giving up six hits and four runs and five strike outs.

Giants and Phils do it again in game two of the series with starting pitcher for San Francisco starter Justin Verlander RHP 0-0 ERA 6.92 he’ll be opposed by the Phillies starter LHP Jesus Luzardo (2-0 ERA 1.50). First pitch for this game is scheduled for 3:45 PM PDT at Citizens Bank Ballpark.

#1 Marko final home game of the regular season the San Jose Barracuda (35-26-5-4) gave up two goals in the first three minutes and could never find their way back eventually losing to the visiting Ontario Reign (41-24-3-1) at Tech CU in San Jose.

#2 What was impressive was the Reign’s goaltender 18 years old Carter George had 33 saves in his first professional game and what a way to start with your first shutout as well.

#3 The Reign’s Martin Chromiak scored his 17th goal of the season on a tipped in shot from the right point from between the circles for a 1-0 lead. The Reign’s Reilly Walsh scored his fifth goal of the season making it 2-0 going top shelf in the offensive zone off the face off.

#4 In the second period San Jose had opportunities to get on the scoreboard the Reign’s Walsh did it again scoring a perfect shot glove side under goaltender Yaroslav Askarov from between the circles. The Reign came away with a 4-0 shutout for the win on Saturday night.

#5 The Barracuda take on the fifth placed Calgary Wranglers next Friday and Saturday to conclude the regular season. The Wranglers are 36-27-4-3 and won five of their last ten games. How do you see this match up in Calgary?

#1 Chicago Cubs pitcher Justin Steele will miss the rest of the 2025 season due to needed surgery on his left elbow to repair a flexor tendon, according Cubs manager Craig Counsell. It wasn’t know if Steele will need ligament replacement of the Tommy John revision with a internal brace. Steele will be out until the 2026 season.

#2 Vladimir Guerrero Jr is thrilled to be on board with the Toronto Blue Jays after singing a 14 year contract worth $500 million. Guerrero Jr who signed with the Jays last Monday was born in Montreal and his Hall of Fame father Vladimir Sr was born in the Dominican and played for the Montreal Expos. Guerrero signed with the Blue Jays at 16 years old in 2015 and made it to the big leagues in 2019.

#3  Toronto Blue Jays right hand pitcher Max Scherzer will pay a visit to a US specialist due to right thumb soreness. It will be his second to the specialist in the US this week said Jays manager John Schneider on Monday. Scherzer a three time Cy Young Award winner got a cortisone injection for the sore thumb when visited Dr. Thomas Graham on Mar 31st.

#4 Very sad news from the Cincinnati Reds Tommy Helms who was a slick fielding infielder who had won the 1966 National League Rookie of the Year. Helms also managed the Reds for short terms has passed away at age 83. Helms wife told the Reds Hall of Fame that Helms passed away of an unknown cause. Helms played 14 season in 1435 games, he was an All Star 1967 and 68. He won gold gloves in 1970 and 1971 those years Helms played Dave Concepcion and they were considered the best double play combinations in the game.

#5 Amaury check it out two homestands so far for the Sacramento A’s and two of the largest TV market teams have paid a visit to the A’s minor league park Sutter Health Park the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets. Reports have fans who came from New York saying the space is way too small to accommodate fans, players and media from either of those two markets visiting Sacramento. On the home opener the broadcasts went off the air one time for the A’s and one for the Cubs. During Saturday’s game the cart taking an injured Cub player off he diamond ran out of gas the player had to be assisted off the field.

Amaury Pi-Gonzalez – Cuban-born Pi-González is one of the pioneers of Spanish-language baseball play-by-play in America. Began as Oakland A’s Spanish-language voice in 1977 ending in 2024 (interrupted by stops with the Giants, Mariners and Angels). Voice of the Golden State Warriors from 1992 through 1998. 2010 inducted in the Bay Area Radio Hall of fame.

#1 Sacramento Kings Domantas Sabonis and Jonas Valanciunas each chalked up a double double as the Sacramento Kings clinched for their first play in game after defeating the Phoenix Suns 109-98 Sunday.

#2 Sabonis scored 20 points and had 12 rebounds for his 61st double-double of the season. Valanciunas scored 22 points and ten rebounds.

#3 The Kings Zach LaVine scored 20 points and improved to 40-42 and are ending their regular season on positive note with a win.

#4 The Kings will meet the Dallas Mavericks for the play in game. The Kings finished the season in ninth place and the Mavericks finished at tenth place. The Play In game is one and done on Wed Apr 16 for a 7:00pm PDT tip off at Golden 1. How do you see this post season match up?

Bay Area Panthers game wrap: Panthers upend Wranglers 50-28

The Bay Area Panthers dominated the North Arizona Wranglers at SAP Center in San Jose on Sunday night 50-28. The Panthers in the first half had their offense going with a 22-7 lead. The Wranglers quarterback CJ Fowler at 10:56 threw an intercepted pass that was intercepted by the Panthers Tevaughn Grant at the Arizona 11 yard line and ran in for a touchdown making it 8-0 Panthers.

At 7:00 Fowler threw to wide out Marvin Kinsley for a six yard touchdown and the Wranglers were on the scoreboard cutting the Panthers lead to one point 8-7. The Wranglers kicker Brandon Fischer hit a 49 yard kick off that was returned by the Panthers Arsiah McCorker Sr for a touchdown at 6:04 making it 16-7. The Panthers concluded the first half with another score at 5:06 when Panthers quarterback Josh Jones threw a 15 yard pass to Tyrese Chambers for a 22-7 Panthers lead at the half.

Third quarter action Fowler threw a 13 yard pass to Kinsley at 11:57 and the Wranglers had their second score of the game making it 22-14 Panthers still ahead. Panthers running back Joshua Tomas scored on a two yard carry at 7:08 as the Panthers improved on the scoreboard 29-14. The Wranglers David Elder scored on a hand off for a six yard scamper at 3:39 to make it 29-21 Panthers lead was to eight points. Bay Area’s Joshua Tomas scored after taking a pitch into the end zone for a six yard carry at 14:10 to conclude all the scoring in third quarter making it 36-21

Fourth quarter action the Bay Area scored twice unanswered: Wranglers quarterback Fowler threw an intended pass to Jamal Couch but the ball was intercepted by Panthers Trae Meadows who ran it back for a 50 yard touchdown Panthers up 43-21. The Panthers would score one more time for the evening to ice the game when Jones hit Chambers at 1:57 for a 19 yard run. Panthers hit the 50 point mark making it 50-21. The Wranglers hard as they tried scored for the final time of the game with 26 seconds left in the game when Fowler hit Elder for a three yard run but it was not enough for Northern Arizona who lost it 50-28.

Panthers next game is at the Fisher Freight. It will be the Panthers first IFL meeting with the Fish in the two franchises history Sat Apr 19th at 4:05pm PDT.

Sharks Fall 5-2 to Flames, Toffoli Scores 30th

The San Jose Sharks fell 5-2 to the Calgary Flames Sunday. MacKenzie Weegar, Adam Klapka, Yegor Sharangovich and Matt Coronato scored for Calgary. Dustin Wolf made 28 saves for the win. The win preserves playoff hopes for Calgary fans as the team avoided elimination. Tyler Toffoli and Jan Rutta scored for San Jose. Toffoli’s goal was his 30th of the season, for the third season in a row. Georgi Romanov made 25 saves in the loss. It was the ninth loss in a row for the Sharks.

After the game, Tyler Toffoli talked about the season’s many losses:

“We’ve been in so many games this year and blown so many leads in stupid ways, that I think if everyone reflects in the right way going into the summer and comes into training camp next year it could be a completely different season.”

Jan Rutta also commented on the team’s tendency to lose: “We’ve been playing well enough to win a lot of games and always found a way to lose.”

Sharks Head Coach Ryan Warsofsky was asked what he wanted the young players to learn from these losses. He said: “How hard it is to win in this league, how you can’t get caught taking a breath at any moment, that it’s a fine line between winning and losing.”

The Sharks took the lead at 3:09 of the first period. Tyler Toffoli scored his 30th of the season with a wrist shot from right in front of the blue paint. Assists went to Lucas Carlsson and Noah Gregor.

Calgary tied it up with their fourth shot of the game at 9:24. After the Sharks twice failed to clear the zone, MacKenzie Weegar scored with a shot from the top of the faceoff circle. Assists went to Adam Klapka and Jonathan Huberdeau.

Calgary took the lead at 14:15 with a goal from Klapka. Klapka skated to the net as Nazem Kadri carried the puck in along the boards and then centered it for the snap shot. An assist went to Huberdeau as well.

At the end of the first period, the Sharks led in shots 15-6. The only penalty in the period went against the Sharks for too many men on the ice.

The Sharks tied it up 4:20 into the second period. Jan Rutta scored with a backhand as he skated by the net. Assists went to William Eklund and Tyler Toffoli.

The second period was as lopsided as the first, though this time the shots favored Calgary 16-5. The Sharks again took the only penalty of the period, a high-stick against Timothy Lijegren.

Calgary took the lead back with their third goal 1:30 into the third period. Yegor Sharangovich scored with a snap shot for his 100th career NHL goal. Assists went to Morgan Frost and Brayden Pachal.

The Flames padded that lead with a fourth goal at 10:55, a wrist shot in front of the net from Coronato. Assists went to Mikael Backlund and Blake Coleman.

Sharangovich scored his second of the game into an empty net at 17:16. Rasmus Anderson got the assist.

The Flames took their two penalties of the game in the third period but it did not hurt their result, with the shots nearly even at 10-8 Sharks.

The Sharks will play their final road game of the season on Monday in Vancouver against the Canucks at 7:00 PM PT.

Mets Senga gets shutout over A’s 8-0; New York four run ninth seals the deal in Sacramento loss

West Sacramento– The Sacramento Athletics hosted the Visiting New York Mets on the most perfect of a Sunday afternoon that the City has seen since early October, The Mets ruined the day for the A’s crowd It was nice by handing the home team an 8-0 loss at Sutter Health Park.

It was a perfect 79 degrees at the start of the game. The A’s and Mets played a pretty uneventful game until the top the sixth when the red hot bat of Luis Torrens knocked in a RBI with a single to right field. Torres would continue to stay hot by going three for four with a double and two runs batted in.

Torres offense was not much needed as the Japanese sensation Kodai Senga pitched seven complete innings and only giving up four hits on the afternoon. Senga wins leaves him a 2-1 record in the early season with a earned run average of only 1.06.

The Mets would continue to scored in every inning remaining in the game and even topping of the ninth by adding four runs in that half inning alone. The Mets have started off the season pretty hot with this win bring their record to 10 wins and 5 losses.

The A’s have nearly the opposite record with 6 wins against 10 losses. The A’s have Monday off before hosting the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday. Starting pitcher for the A’s on Tuesday LHP Jeffrey Springs (2-1 ERA 4.20) for the Sox Sean Burke (1-2 ERA 6.08) first pitch 4:40pm PDT at Guaranteed Rate Field in the South Side.

The White Sox have completed a home stand over the weekend taking two of three from the visiting Boston Red Sox.

Bay FC game wrap: Chicago’s Ludmila scores twice enough to defeat Bay FC 2-1 at Pay Pal Park

SAN JOSE–Bay FC hosted the newly rebranded Chicago Stars FC on Sunday evening in the two teams’ first matchup of the season. Bay FC was looking to avenge a loss to the Washington Spirit while Chicago was hoping to get their first win of the season. The Stars Ludmila scored twice in the fifth minute and in the 41st minute enough to defeat Bay FC 2-1 at Pay Pal Park.

Chicago seemed to get an early lead in the fifth minute when the ball got past Jordan Silkowitz and into the back of the net, but the assistant referee’s flag was up and the play was offside. After a momentary delay, the referee was called over for a review and the call was changed once again though. Chicago was awarded the goal, and Ludmila got her first goal of the season.

Abby Dahlkemper saved a goal in the 18th minute, as Silkowitz charged out at the ball carrier. The shot went past Bay’s goalkeeper but went right to Dahlkemper. Chicago would get a second goal during the first half though, as Ludmila made it a brace in the 41st minute.

Chicago would carry that lead into halftime.

Early in the second half, the first yellow card of the night was shown to Camryn Biegalski for a foul on Rachael Kundananji.

Bay FC would get on the board in the 58th minute, when Caroline Conti would score on a penalty, which was the result of a handball inside of the box by Chicago.

Penelope Hocking had a chance for an equalizer in the 92nd minute, but the shot sailed over the goal for a goal kick. A similar result happened when she got an opportunity in the 96th minute.

Chicago would end up picking up their first win, and points, of the season as Bay FC were unable to find an equalizer late in the match. Their 2-1 loss is also Bay’s first loss of the season at PayPal Park as they drop to 1-2-1 on the season.

#1 Los Angeles Angels right fielder Mike Trout was racing towards the right field stands to make a leaping catch while extending his arm in what would have been a great catch but a fan who was wearing a Houston Astros jersey caught the ball before Trout and took the ball away. The umpires further ruled that the fan had took the ball out of Trout’s glove. The fan looked sorry for the misdeed raised his arms and offered to give the ball back to Trout. The fan was escorted out of the Daikin Park in Houston. First base umpire Alan Porter ruled the ball foul rather than rule it a fly out. Astros hitter Yanier Diaz later ended up flying to center to end the inning. Jared Whalen the fan later said he was protecting his son’s face and later met with Trout in the clubhouse area where Trout ended up giving a bat to Whalen’s son.

#2 The New York Yankees announced on Saturday that Marcus Stroman will be placed on the 15 day IL due to left knee inflammation this being one day after Stroman surrendered five runs with two outs in a 9-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Saturday. Stroman was sent to the hospital after throwing 46 pitches during a rainy Friday game.

#3 Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Richard Fitts had to leave Saturday’s game against the Chicago White Sox with right shoulder pain. Fitts surrendered two hits, struck out five and walked a batter and left in the fifth inning. Fitts will be coming back to Boston to undergo an MRI said Sox manager Alex Cora.

#4  Emmanuel Clase of the Cleveland Guardians was one of the most dominating relievers in baseball last season. Clase said he was not a pitching machine and that he was human and that he could make mistakes. Clase has struggled in the first few weeks of the season. So far Clase is 2-0 with one save. On Saturday night he gave up six runs on 14 hits.

#5 Could the Los Angeles Dodgers end up being one of the best big league teams. The all time win record for a season sits at 116 held by the 1906 Chicago White Sox and the 2001 Seattle Mariners. The Dodgers are good enough but can they eclipse the Sox and M’s for the all time wins in a season record.

Kings Secure Home Court in 109-98 Win Over Suns; Sac hosts Dallas Wednesday at Golden 1 in Play In

SACRAMENTO — It was game 82 of 82 on Sunday afternoon. In a season known more for turmoil than winning, the Kings laced them up one last time in 2025, trying to secure a home play-in game on Wednesday against the Dallas Mavericks.

After a disappointing season for the Phoenix Suns, they traveled to Sacramento to take on the Kings on Sunday. Officially eliminated from playoff contention, the Suns wouldn’t play any of their stars. Brad Beal, Kevin Durant, and Devin Booker all sat for the Suns. The environment was ripe for a Kings win and they took advantage of the resting Suns with a 109-98 win at Golden 1 Center on Sunday to advance to the play in playoffs.

In the first quarter, the Kings outscored the Suns 33-25 to get off to a quick start. The Kings’ energy and intensity were good, and they looked like a team that came to win. Zach LaVine scored 10 points in the first quarter to get off to a hot start offensively.

In the second quarter, the Suns made a run and outscored the Kings 29-24 to get the game within three points going into halftime at 57-54. The Kings’ scoring in the first half came from Domantas Sabonis, who had 17 points in the half.

In the third quarter, the Kings expanded their slim halftime lead to 11 points by the end of the period. The Kings outscored the Suns 29-21 in the third as they looked to complete the win in the fourth.

In the final quarter, the Kings largely played the bench unit as the regular season came to a close. The Kings and Suns both scored 23 points in the final quarter, allowing the Kings to secure the 109-98 victory. The Kings’ best performance came from Jonas Valanciunas, who scored 22 points and had 10 rebounds on the day.

The Kings will stay home to take on the Dallas Mavericks in the 9/10 seed play-in game on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 7 PM PST inside Golden 1 Center.
