#1 Wednesday night the Sacramento Kings (46-30) traveled to Portland to take on the Trail Blazers (32-44). The Kings ended the NBA’s longest playoff drought with a 120-80 win over the Trail Blazers. The win in Portland locked down a spot in the post-season.

#2 After two quarters the Kings were five of 24 from the perimeter. They were shooting at 20.8% on three pointers.

#3  This was the largest lead for the Kings in the game but Portland refused to go away. The Trail Blazers closed out the first half with a 14-6 run and just like that had pulled to within four points 50-46.

#4  The three’s were falling for Sacramento already clocking 14 with 8:41 left in the game. They would finish with 18 triples and win by a whopping 40 points. Do you see the Kings being the kind of team going into the post season that can go more than two rounds from what you’ve seen in the regular season.

Kings Secure Playoff Spot With Win Over Portland 120-80

Wednesday night the Sacramento Kings (46-30) traveled to Portland to take on the Trail Blazers (32-44). The Kings ended the NBA’s longest playoff drought with a 120-80 win over the Trail Blazers. The win tonight in Portland locked down a spot in the post-season.

It was a slow start for the Kings trailing after the first quarter had come to an end 20-19. Sacramento was having a lot of trouble hitting shots from downtown. After two quarters the King were five of 24 from the perimeter. They were shooting at 20.8% on three pointers.

It took the first quarter for the Kings to heat up. With under four minutes left in the first half, the Kings had a 44-32 lead and finally had this game on cruise control; or did they? This was the largest lead for the Kings in the game but Portland refused to go away. The Trail Blazers closed out the first half with a 14-6 run and just like that had pulled to within four points 50-46.

After two quarters Domantas Sabonis was on the verge of another double double with ten rebounds and nine points. De’Aaron Fox had a slow first half with four points.

The third quarter began with a Keegan Murray triple putting him just one three away from the all- time NBA rookie 3-point record. Four minutes into the quarter the Kings had established a 62-51 lead. At 6:40 Murray made history with his third three in this game making him the all-time NBA rookie leader from beyond the arc.

With 4:45 left in the quarter the Kings had a 73-60 advantage. After three quarters the Kings had a 83-64 lead. Fox had heated up and had 12 points through three and the Kings were a quarter away from securing a playoff spot.

Forth quarter clutch player Fox started the quarter with a couple of triples to extend their lead to 99-65. The second half Kings had arrived. The three’s were falling for Sacramento already clocking 14 with 8:41 left in the game. They would finish with 18 triples and win by a whopping 40 points.

Malik Monk had the game high with 19 points off the bench. Fox had 18 points. The 17 year drought had come to an end with this decisive win.

Friday night the Kings will remain in Portland for another game with the Trail Blazers. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

#1 The Golden State Warriors Draymond Green and the New Orleans Pelicans Brandon Ingram got into a tussle in the second quarter. Green pushed Ingram out of bounds as Ingram was driving for a layup. Ingram took exception to Green’s foul, and the players got into a shoving match. Each player was charged with a technical foul. Green’s foul was upgraded to a flagrant foul. 

#2 With the120-109 win, the Warriors are 40-37. The Warriors are 31-8 at home. The Pelicans fell to 39-38. The Pelicans are 14-26 on the road. The Warriors are in sixth place in the Western Conference. The Pelicans are one and 1/2 games behind the Warriors.

Warriors come back from 20-point deficit beat Pelicans 120-109; Golden State wins six of last ten games

The Golden State Warriors (40-37) hosted the New Orleans Pelicans (38-38) at the Chase Center Tuesday night. The Pelicans came into town riding a five-game winning streak. The Warriors were still upset after losing to Minnesota Sunday Night. The Warriors needed a win to get the sixth spot in the Western Conference standings. The Pelicans needed a win to stay in sixth place. The Warriors stepped it up for a 20 point comeback win 120-109.

Both teams played as if it were a playoff game. The Pelicans’ defense in the first half had the Warriors’ offense out of rhythm. The Warriors’ defense in the second half shut down the Pelican offense in the second half. For the 12th time this season, the Warriors overcame a double-digit halftime deficit to win. The Warriors beat the Pelicans 120-109.

The teams exchanged the lead three or four times in the first quarter. The Warriors led 23-20 when the Pelicans went on an 11-0 run to lead 31-23. The Pelicans led 33-25 when the Warriors fouled Brandon Ingram making a desperation three-point shot with 0.8 seconds left. Steve Kerr shook his head in disbelief as Ingram made all three free throws to give the Pelicans the lead, 36-25. 

The Pelicans continued to dominate play in the second quarter. The Pelicans increased the lead to 20 points, 63-43. Stephen Curry connected on a three to finish the first half with the Warriors trailing, 63-46. New Orleans had three players in double figures. Curry was the only Warrior in double figures. Curry had 17 and made three threes. The Warriors turned the ball over 14 times in the first half. If they hoped to win, the Warriors would have to find a way to turn things around.

The Warriors needed someone to provide the spark to get them back in the game. That spark came from Donte DiVincenzo and Klay Thompson as the Warriors went on an 8-0 run to start the third period. DiVincezo scored the first five points, and Thompson knocked down a three.

The Pelicans held off the Warriors attack for a while. The Pelicans led by 13, 73-60 when C J McCollum was charged with a flagrant foul as he ran over DiVincenzo. DiVincezo made both free throws, and the Warriors had possession. Thompson made a three, and the Warriors now trailed by eight.

The Warriors now had momentum on their side. Late in the quarter, Pelicans led 89-80. Kevon Looney made two offensive rebounds, allowing Curry to make a three. On the ensuing play, Jordan Poole stole the ball and made a layup to make it 89-85 at the end of the third quarter. The Warriors outscored the Pelicans 39-26. 

The Warriors kept attacking the rim. Curry made it a two-point game, 89-87, after a steal and a bucket. The Pelicans fought back. They led 94-91. Poole made two consecutive baskets to give the Warriors their first lead, 95-94. The Warriors never relinquished the lead. Poole, Curry, and Thompson all made threes. The Warriors led 118-103 with one minute left in the game.

Game Notes: With the win, the Warriors are 40-37. The Warriors are 31-8 at home. The Pelicans fell to 39-38. The Pelicans are 14-26 on the road. The Warriors are in sixth place in the Western Conference. The Pelicans are one and 1/2 games behind the Warriors. 

The Warriors split the season series with the Pelicans 2-2. The Warriors had 14 turnovers in the first half and five in the second half.

Curry had another phenomenal performance Tuesday night. Curry’s line was 39 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, eight threes, and three steals. Poole had 21, Thompson 17 points, DiVincenzo 13, and Jonathan Kuminga 13. 

Ingram led the Pelicans with 26, McCollum had 15, Trey Murphy 21, Herbert Jones 13, and Jonas Valanciunas 11. 

The Warriors have five games left in the regular season. They face the San Antonio Spurs at the Chase Center Friday night. The game will start at 7 pm.

Kings don’t clinch lose to Timberwolves 119-115 at Golden 1 Center

SACRAMENTO–The Sacramento Kings were back in action at the Golden 1 Center on Monday night. It wasn’t any old game for the Kings. The Sacramento Kings had a chance to clinch a playoff berth for the first time in 16 years. Sacramento was buzzing, and the arena was packed to full capacity.

Would Monday, March 27th be the day the Kings finally snapped the longest playoff drought in the NBA? Well, the Kings must first go through the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Wolves were on a second night of a back-to-back after they beat the Warriors on Sunday night. The Kings were fresh off an off day after beating the Jazz on Saturday night. Unfortunately, the Kings lost a tough one at home, 119-115. Kings fans would need to wait another day to clinch.

In the first quarter, the Kings came out sluggish. The Kings offense was not firing in sync, and the Timberwolves took advantage of that on the offensive end. The Kings only scored 25 points in the first quarter. However, the Timberwolves scored 34 points in the first as they played a solid all-in-all first quarter. The Kings would look to fix the offense early in the second.

In the second quarter, the Kings continued to play without much energy. The usually potent Kings offense was not knocking down their normal shots as they struggled to keep up with Minnesota. However, the Kings were able to battle back and take the lead going into halftime. The Kings scored 33 points in the second quarter as they took off in the quarter’s final minutes. On the other hand, the Timberwolves scored onl6 23 points to relinquish the lead 58-57 going into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Kings reverted to their first-quarter form. The Kings did not appear to be in rhythm most of the quarter, as they could only hang in with the Timberwolves. The Kings were outscored in the third quarter 29-27. The Kings offense was a bit stagnant as the likes of Malik Monk were ice-cold. The Kings would need to awaken the offense if they hoped to win and clinch a playoff berth. The Kings leading scorer was De’Aaron Fox,, who scored 24 points through three quarters.

In the fourth quarter, The Kings could not pull it together. The Kings defense was poor as usual in the game, and the offense could not pick up the slack. The Kings dropped the last game of the homestand to the Wolves by the final of 119-115.

It was a tough loss for the Kings, who played in front of a hungry Kings fanbase ready to clinch. The Kings were outscored in the fourth quarter 33-30. The Kings were led in the defeat by De’Aaron Fox, who scored 29 points in the game. The Timberwolves were led by Jaden McDaniels, who had 20 points.

#1 The very determined Minnesota Timberwolves (38-37) didn’t give a inch in the closing moments of their game at the Chase Center in San Francisco against the Golden State Warriors (39-37). The Wolves Karl Anthony Towns hit a three pointer to lift the Timberwolves to a 99-96 win on Sunday night.

#2 The Warriors Jordan Poole score a three pointer himself that gave Golden State the lead at 1:28 right after Towns had hit a three pointer. Poole was the leading scorer for Golden State with 27 points and had grab a crucial rebound on the other end of the floor to score the three.

#3 In the last 9.9 seconds left in the game Poole looked for Stephen Curry to get a pass which didn’t reach him. Curry later attempted a three pointer that ruled no basket at the buzzer and the win went to the T-Wolves.

#4 The Timberwolves Rudy Gobert and the Warriors Draymond Green battled all night. Gobert went up for a dunk with just 27.7 seconds left in the game to dunk but was fouled by Green. Green went to the line hitting one of two. Earlier Green got knocked over by the 7’1 Gobert on a charging foul.

#5 Look out the New Orleans Pelicans (37-37) are coming to face the Warriors Tue Mar 28 at 7:00pm. The Pelicans are coming off a four game win streak and are eighth in the Western Conference and have won six of their last ten games. The Pelicans won their last game against the Los Angeles Clippers Saturday night 131-110.

Timberwolves grind out win over Warriors 99-96; T-Wolves Towns hits two three pointers to edge Warriors

The game between the Warriors and the Minnesota Timberwolves felt like an NBA playoff game. Both teams played defense at a very high level. Neither team would give an inch. The players needed pads, but there are no pads in basketball. Draymond Green was on the receiving end of three flagrant fouls.

The smaller Warrior team had to find a way to contain Karl-Anthony Towns, Rudy Gobert, and Naz Reid. The Warriors grinded out a slim 55-53 lead at the end of the first half. The Warriors had four players in double figures. Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole each had 12. Stephen Curry had ten, and Green had eleven. The Wolves point guard, Michael Conley, led his team with 12. Conley made four threes.

The Warriors wanted to extend the lead in the third quarter. In the past, Golden State blew teams away in the third period. That was not the case Sunday night. The Warriors’ offense went ice cold. The Wolves defense held them to 18 points. The Warriors had one field goal in the first six minutes and 22 seconds of the third quarter. The Warriors defense held the Wolves to 24 points, but they were trailing 77-73 heading into the fourth quarter. 

Minnesota raced out to a nine-point lead, 86-77. Poole and Gary Payton II helped the Warriors to a 10-2 run to get within a point of the lead 88-87. The Wolves’ Reid made a three, but a bucket by Kevon Looney and a Thompson three gave the Warriors the advantage 92-91.

Towns made a three to regain the lead for the Wolves, 94-93. Time was running down. Poole electrified the crown with a three to return the lead to the Warriors, 96-94. The Warriors needed to eliminate turnovers and stop fouling to win. Neither happened.

The Warriors turned the ball over, and Towns made another three to give the Wolves the lead 98-96 with 9.9 seconds left. The Warriors committed a foul, and Minnesota made a free throw. The W’s has 2.4 seconds left to make a three. Unfortunately for Golden State, they failed to score. The Wolves win 99-96.

Game Notes: The loss stopped the nine-game home winning streak and the modest three-game streak that started in Houston. The Warriors are now 39-37. The Wolves improved top 38-37. 

Poole led the Warriors with 27 points. Poole made three threes. Thompson made five threes and finished with 15 points. Thompson was five-for-17 from the floor.

Curry’s line was 20 points, six rebounds, and nine assists. Curry made four threes. Green had 12 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Green took a beating as Gobert’s fouls sent Green to the floor in a lot of pain.

Payton played his first game of the year for the Warriors. Payton, a fierce defender, received a standing ovation from the fans at the Chase Center when he entered the game in the second quarter. Payton played 15 minutes and knocked down nine points. His three-pointer from the corner in the fourth quarter helped the Warriors regain a brief lead in the fourth quarter. 

Reid, who had a career-high point game against the Warriors in Minnesota, led the Wolves with 23. Reid made three threes. Anthony Edwards had 13, Conly 12, and Towns 14.

Gobert had a double-double with ten points and 18 rebounds. Coming off the Wolves’ bench, Kyle Anderson finished with 12 points and ten rebounds. Anderson’s steal made a steal with 4.4 seconds left in the game to seal the win for Minnesota.

The Warriors host the New Orleans Pelicans at the Chase Center Tuesday night. The game will start at 7 pm.

Kings dominate Jazz 121-113; Hueter leads Sac with 27 points; Magic number now 1 for Kings

SACRAMENTO–The Sacramento Kings (45-29) were back in action on Saturday night in Sacramento. The Kings were playing on the second night of a back-to-back after taking on the Phoenix Suns on Friday night. In the game against the Suns, the Kings pulled together from a great 135-127 win at home. The win moved the Kings magic number down to two games as they looked to clinch on Saturday.

If the Kings were to clinch a playoff berth, they would need to win the game on Saturday in conjunction with the Clippers and Suns losses. Kings PG De’Aaron Fox was out on Saturday with a lower leg injury. The Kings won on Saturday night by the final of 121-113 defeating the Utah Jazz (35-39).

In the first quarter, the Kings came out strong. The Kings showed no fatigue on the second night of a back-to-back. The Kings outscored the Jazz in the first quarter 32-26. Keegan Murray started the game with a hot hand scoring 14 points in the first quarter. The Kings did seem to fade late in the quarter as they hoped to stop that before the second quarter.

In the second quarter, the Kings weren’t playing with the same energy as the first. They seemed to slow a bit after the first quarter and didn’t have Fox to pick them up. The Jazz continued the strong performance, building off the early minutes to outscore the Kings 35-23. The King offense lost all steam in the second quarter to dog themselves a hole going into the second half. The Kings entered halftime down 61-55.

In the third quarter, the Kings reacted well to the slow second quarter. The Kings came out firing in the third quarter to score 35 points in the frame. The Kings defense was also displayed in the third as they held the Jazz to only 17 points. After the outburst, the Kings would go into the game’s final quarter leading 90-78. The Kings played a great all-around quarter in the third to put them in a position to win.

In the fourth quarter, both teams battled, but it was ultimately the Kings who outlasted the Jazz to secure the victory. The Kings showed a lot of heart after a disappointing first half and the ejection of Monk in the second half. The Kings were outscored by the Jazz 35-31 in the fourth quarter but it was all meaningless.

The Kings still managed to hold the lead and secure the victory on the second night of the back-to-back. It was a great win for the Kings who were short-handed with the absence of Fox and the ejection of Monk. The Kings were led in victory by Kevin Huerter who had 27 points on the night. Walker Kessler led the Jazz with 31 points.

After the win, the Kings magic number is one game to clinch a playoff berth. The Kings can clinch with a win against the Timberwolves on Monday night at home.

Huerter leads the way with 29 pts; Kings end 2 game skid over Suns 135-127

SACRAMENTO–The Sacramento Kings (44-29) were back in action on Friday night in Sacramento. The Kings on Friday were coming off one of the toughest games of the season. The Kings were defeated on Tuesday against the Boston Celtics by the final of 132-109. It was a humbling game for the Kings, who had lost two in a row.

On Friday, the Kings were set to take on the Phoenix Suns, who had also lost two in a row and were looking to snap the streak. The Kings behind the efforts of Kevin Huerter and his leading 29 points ended the Kings two game skid with a 135-127 win at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.

GAME RESULT: In the first quarter, the Kings offense started slow. The Kings only scored 24 points in the first quarter as they couldn’t heat up on the offensive end. The Suns put up 30 points to put the Kings in an early hole. One major discrepancy in the game was that the Kings shot no free throws as the Suns shot nine. It was an underwhelming quarter for the Kings, who looked to turn it around in the second.

In the second quarter, the Kings continued to play very poorly. The offense didn’t look like it usually does with quick ball movement and open shots. Also, not to add insult to injury, the Kings defense is not very good. The lack of Kings defense was on full display in the first half. The Suns outscored the Kings again in the second quarter 37-32. The Suns weren’t even shooting well from deep going on 2/14 in that category, but the Kings couldn’t keep pace. The Kings would enter halftime down 67-56.

In the third quarter, the Kings came roaring back. The Kings outscored the Suns by a massive 45-26 in the third quarter. The Kings could do no wrong on the offensive end, as Hurter couldn’t miss. The Kings seemed to have their swagger back—something we hadn’t seen in almost three games from the Kings. In the third quarter, De’Aaron Fox went to the locker room and was out the rest of the game with a hamstring issue. The Kings would need to close the game in the fourth quarter without Fox and a 101-93 lead.

In the fourth quarter, it was a dog fight until the end. However, the Kings came out victorious! The Kings battled in a way they hadn’t shown in the last few games to take down the team immediately behind them in the standings. The Kings beat the Suns on Friday night in an eight point win. It was a huge win for the Kings who needed to snap the two-game losing skid they were on.

On the other hand, the Suns lost their third game in a row and in dire straights losing ground in the standings. The Kings were led by a great performance from Huerter in his return from injury. Huerter scored 29 points and was lethal from behind the line. In defeat, the Suns were led by Devin Booker who had 32 points.

Up Next: The Kings stay home to take on the Utah Jazz on Saturday at 7 PM PST. It will be the second night of a back-to-back.

Poole’s hot fourth quarter hand propels Warriors win over 76ers 120-112

In the words of former sportscaster Dick Enberg “My oh my, what a game.” The Golden State Warriors (39-36) had their most impressive win of the year as they beat the visiting Philadelphia 76ers (49-24) Friday night at the Chase Center 120-112. In a race with the Boston Celtics for the best record in the Eastern Conference, the Sixers came to town having won 17 of the last 20 road games.

The Warriors, winners of the last two games on the road, were hoping to win their third game in a row. The Sixers’ James Harden would not play Friday night. Andrew Wiggins and Gary Payton II were not available either. The Warriors had to find a way to stop the Sixers’ big man, Joel Embiid. 

The game was a nip-and-tuck affair for most of the game. Neither team would give an inch. The Sixers’ biggest lead in the game was five points until late in the third quarter.

The Warriors were up seven early in the second quarter. The Sixers’ defense, the best in the league against the three-point shot, would be a test for the Warriors, the best three-point shooting team in the NBA. The game was a nail-biter, but the Warriors’ offense, behind Jordan Poole’s 19 points in the fourth quarter, produced the win for Golden State.

Both teams played defense in the first half. Joel Embiid was tough to guard. The big man bulled his way to the rim. The Warriors Kevon Looney, four inches shorter than Embiid, could not stop him. Embiid also went to the free throw several times.

The Sixers won the first quarter 27-23. The Warriors outscored the Sixers 32-26 in the second quarter to finish the first half with a slim two-point advantage, 55-53. Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 14. The second-leading scorer was JaMychal Green with ten. Embiid led the Sixers with 19. Tobias Harris had 15, and Tyrese Maxey ten. The Warriors’ bench outscored the Sixer bench 25-5.

The lead changed several times in the third period. The Warriors led 78-76 after Jordan Poole made a four-point play. The Sixers got hot and went on a 12-1 run to finish the third quarter with a nine-point lead, 88-79. 

The Warriors’ offense came to life in the fourth quarter. The Warriors went on a 14-5 run to get within two, 93-91. Poole scored seven during the run. The Sixers fought back and led 100-93. The Warriors kept fouling Embiid, and Embiid kept making free throws.

Poole and Klay Thompson made threes to get within three, 102-99. Kevon Looney made a big bucket. The Sixers answered. Klay Thompson knocked down another three to tie the game 104-104. The game was tied thrice at 16, 108, and 110. Curry put the Warriors ahead for good 112-110. Poole connected on a three. Poole had 19 points in the fourth quarter. Curry scored the last five points of the game for The Warriors.

Game Notes: With the win, the Warriors are now 39-36. They won their third straight. The Sixers dropped to 49-24. 

The Warriors are 31-7 at the Chase Center. The Warriors are 23-3 when they hold the opposition to 115 points or less. The Warriors outscored the Sixers 41-24 in the fourth quarter. The Warriors defense rose to the occasion.

Poole led the Warriors with 33 points. He made six threes. 19 of his 33 came in the fourth quarter. Curry knocked down 29. Thompson had 21. Thompson made six threes. Draymond Green had a double-double with ten points and ten assists. He recorded seven rebounds.

Looney had his hands full guarding Embiid. Looney had six points, ten rebounds, and seven assists. The Warriors’ bench outscored the Sixers’ bench 54-14. 

Embbid led the Sixers with 46 points. Embiid made 19 free throws in 22 tries. Tobias Harris had 23, and Tyrese Maxey finished with 21.

The Warriors meet the Minnesota Timberwolves Sunday night at the Chase Center. The Wolves’ big guy, Karl-Anthony Towns, will be in the lineup. The Warriors’ Gary Payton II may be cleared to return to the team on Sunday. The game will start at 5:30 pm.
