The writing was on the wall by the end of the first quarter as the Utah Jazz (18-37) built a 19 point lead over the Sacramento Kings (12-44) that was extended with each ensuing quarter. The final was 121-93.
With six of their best players injured or ill for the Kings the young guys clocked a lot of minutes in this game. Devin Carter had another terrific game scoring 19 points and 5 rebounds. DeMar DeRozan had the team high with 20 points.
The Kings took on the Jazz Wednesday night at Delta Center in Salt Lake City. So far unable to do a thing about a crushing their losing streak extending it on Wednesday night to 14 games. The Kings have just been unable to put a healthy team on the floor.
The Kings are either injured or will making any continuity a tough call. The Kings did not see Russell Westbrook, Zach LaVine, Malik Monk, Domantas Sabonis or De’Andre Hunter on the floor Wednesday night along with the absence of Keegan Murray the younger guys will see a lot of action.
This is nothing new for the Kings although it seems that the list of missing players is getting longer and there is not much that can be done about it. Injuries can crush a team’s season and the Kings have been dealing with this ever since the get go.
Game recap: The Kings got crushed in the opening 12 minutes of play. The Jazz outscored them 39-20 in the first quarter. When your field goal percent is around 25% and shots from beyond the arc close to the same you are in a world of trouble especially when Utah was shooting over 50% in the field and close to the same from outside.
Sacramento had an uphill battle to start the game and it persisted through the second quarter. At the half, the Jazz had a 71-44 lead. They outscored the Kings 32-24 in the second quarter but the almost irreparable damage had been done in the opening quarter.
The Kings Devin Carter was having another good game having already scored 13 points with three rebounds. One of his strengths is driving to the basket and he was having a lot of success doing so especially in the second quarter.
DeMar DeRozan had 12 points in the half. Other than that the first half was unremarkable for the Kings. Sacramento was protecting the ball well with only five turnovers; they were just missing far too many shots getting completely outplayed by Utah.
The Jazz continued to extend their lead in the third quarter realizing their largest lead of the game so far 83-50 four minutes into the quarter. The Kings were trying to take shots whether open or not. Trailing by a landslide and up against the clock they were going for broke and it wasn’t happening. Going into the fourth quarter Utah had a 100-66 lead.
The Kings did outscore the Jazz in the fourth quarter 27-21. The final was 121-93.
DeMar DeRozan had the team high finishing with 20 points with three rebounds. Devin Carter has steadily been improving scoring 19 points in tonight’s game with five rebounds. He excels driving the basket at times untouched. Doug McDermott had 14 points off the bench and he was hot from beyond the arc hitting five of nine. With this loss the Kings have lost 14 games in a row.
Sacramento will next take on the Orlando Magic on Thursday February 19 after the All-Star game is a wrap. With this break hopefully the team can get some of their starters healthy to finish off the season. Tipoff for the game at Golden 1 Arena in Sacramento is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

After playing a great game last Saturday night, the Sacramento Kings (12-43) traveled to the “Big Easy” looking to break their 12 game losing streak only to run into a buzzsaw at the hands of the New Orleans Pelicans (15-40) losing 120-94. Their offense was terrible. The young center Maxime Raynaud had a terrific game finishing with 21 points and 19 rebounds a bright spot in this losing effort.
Game recap: Along with Russell Westbrook and DeMar DeRozan, Nique Clifford, Maxime Raynaud, and Precious Achiuwa started the game for the Kings. After the first 12 minutes of play the Pelicans had a 31-26 lead. Achiuwa and DeRozan led the offense each scoring six points in the first quarter. Off the bench Devin Carter and Dylan Cardwell also took the floor chipping in four points.
The Pelicans went on a run to start the second quarter taking a 38-26 lead leaving the Kings in the dust. It was hardly the start Sacramento had envisioned. The Kings already had eight turnovers in just over a single quarter.
The Pelicans had scored 14 points on those Sacramento turnovers. With 2:29 left in the half the Kings had cut a 17 point Pelican lead to 11. The Kings were falling flat from beyond the arc going 2 of 13.
As the second quarter came to an end New Orleans had a 15 point lead 61-46. Sacramento had ten turnovers in the first half conceding 19 points. Maxime Raynaud had a great first half shooting for 11 points the only King in double digits and also had nine rebounds. Sacramento had a whole lot of work to do in the second half.
Sacramento did not get a whole lot done in the third quarter getting squashed 31-21 and trailing after three quarters 92-67. The Pelicans had dominated in every quarter with Trey Murphy and Zion Williamson leading the way. Raynaud put the team in a great position playing a great defensive game already with 16 rebounds.
Sacramento’s offense was terrible with 30 of 78 field goals and they were 3 of 25 from beyond the arc. They had been outplayed the entire game. The Pelicans largest lead of the game was 30 points.
New Orleans outscored the Kings in every quarter of this game. The Pelicans had handed the Kings their thirteenth loss in a row.
The Kings Maxime Raynaud, Nique Clifford and Devin Carter again had efficient games. Raynaud had a double double finishing with 21 points and 19 rebounds. Carter had 12 points and three rebounds and Clifford scored ten points with five rebounds.
The Kings could not hit a triple in this game going 4 of 31 and field goals were 40-99. It seemed that not much was dropping for Sacramento as they lost their 13 game in a row. The Pelicans scored 34 fast break points to the Kings 16.
Game notes: Despite losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers Saturday night the Kings played a solid game led by the young players who very nearly pulled off the upset. Maxime Raynaud, Nique Clifford, Devin Carter and Dylan Cardwell played one heck of a game.
Monday night the Kings failed to end their 12-game losing streak as they lost to the Pelicans. They were without Domantas Sabonis and Malik Monk and of course De’Andre Hunter will be awaiting re-evaluation of his eye injury. The good news is that Hunter’s injury could have been so much worse possibly causing permanent damage to his eye so losing him for ten days is far better than what could have been.
The Kings next stop will be in Utah with a matchup against the Jazz Wednesday night with tipoff scheduled for 6:00 PM.

1.The Kings suffered their 12th loss in a row-their worst stretch this season losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers 132-126.
2.Now that the trade deadline has past the Kings has stayed pretty much intact with only Keon Ellis and Dennis Shroder being traded before the deadline.
3. Despite the loss this was a well-played game for the Kings with every starter scoring in double digits as well as double digits from two of their bench players.
4.There are some very promising young players for Sacramento right now both starting and on the bench. Despite the rough time they are going through there just might be some light at the end of the tunnel.
5. Monday night the Kings have traveled to Smoothie King Arena in New Orleans in a quick turnaround taking on the struggling Pelicans, another opportunity to break their losing streak.

SACRAMENTO–The Kings took on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night as Dennis Schroder and Keon Ellis made their returns to Golden 1 Center. The Kings were unable to defeat the Cavs in James Harden’s debut game as they fell 132-126, and their losing streak extended to 12 games.
In the first quarter, the Kings’ young guys propelled the Kings to an early lead over the Cavs. Daeqwon Plowden and Nique Clifford led the scoring from the Kings’ young guys as they took the lead 31-25 at the end of the first frame. Plowden and Clifford combined for 16 first-quarter points, while Russell Westbrook added eight points of his own in the first quarter. The Kings led in second-chance points 12-4 and rebounds 15-10 to start the game.
In the second quarter, the Cavs took advantage of a struggling Kings offense to get themselves back in the game and ultimately take the lead going into halftime. The Cavs outscored the Kings 32-24 to take the 57-55 lead into halftime. Jarrett Allen led the Cavs in the first half against the Kings with 17 points, as Nique Clifford and Russell Westbrook paced the Kings with 14 and 13 points, respectively. The Cavs’ three-point shooting suffered in the first half as they shot 27% from behind the line, while the Kings were solid at 46%.
In the third quarter, the Kings made their move on the Cavs coming out of halftime. The Kings outscored the Cavs 41-36 in the third quarter to take the 96-93 lead into the final quarter of the game in hopes of closing things out. Nique Clifford led the way for the Kings, adding eight points to lead the comeback, and Maxime Raynaud contributed eight points.
In the fourth quarter, the Kings and the young guys put on a show in an attempt to snap the losing streak. Yet, even as Nique Clifford added another seven points in the fourth, the Kings were ultimately outscored 39-30 as they fell to the Cavs 132-126 on Saturday night. Donovan Mitchell and James Harden carried the Cavs to victory late as the duo put up 17 and 15 points, respectively, in the fourth quarter alone. Donovan Mitchell led the Cavs in scoring with 35 points in the victory. On the Kings’ side, Nique Clifford led the Kings with 30 points in defeat, which was a new career high for the rookie.
After the game, the Kings rookie spoke with the media, speaking on his new career high during the loss.
“I got some good looks tonight,” Clifford said after the game. “My teammates were finding me in good positions to score the ball and the shots were falling tonight. So it was a good individual performance, but I’m not a stat guy. I really don’t care unless we get the win. So it was cool, but not the result we wanted.”
The losses are clearly getting to the Kings, but they have remained optimistic and upbeat even while enduring a Sacramento-era record-tying 12-game losing streak.
There’s more pain to come for Sacramento. Yet, the initial group of young players that will be around for the rebuild is appearing to take shape. If the Kings can continue to develop guys like Nique Clifford, Dylan Cardwell, Maxime Raynaud, and Devin Carter, they might begin to build a foundation that can be paired with a top draft pick.
The Kings will head on the road to take on the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday at 5 p.m. PST.
