NBA Playoffs podcast Michael Roberson: Thunder go up 2-0 on Timberwolves

On the NBA Playoffs podcast Michael Roberson:

#1 The Oklahoma City Thunder have done it again with another 118-103 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves at Paycom.com Arena on Thursday night in the Western Conference finals. The Thunder takes a 2-0 series lead.

#2 The Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led with 38 points and you can see why he was named the NBA MVP which was announced before game 2 of this playoff series.

#3 NBA Commissioner Adam Silver awarded Gilegous-Alexander the MVP trophy before the game and Gilegous-Alexander went out and scored 12 of 21 field goals and 13 of 15 free throws, eight assists and three steals looks like he earned his MVP and his keep.

#4 The Timberwolves Anthony Edwards was hard at work taking 26 shots to score 32 points. Jaden McDaniels had 22 points, and Nickeil Walker-Alexander scored 17 points.

#5 Game 3 is Saturday and the series goes back to the Target Center at Minnesota. The Timberwolves have their backs to the wall and another loss could very put them out of this series. The Thunder have been in control in the first two games can they put it away in Minnesota?

#1 San Antonio guard Stephen Castle who was the NBA’s rookie of the year, what made him pretty good was he was the NBA’s All Rookie team first selection. Castle averaged 14.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists. What was impressive he was the only player to get first team votes the entire 100 members of sportswriters and electronic media who voted on the NBA annual awards.

#2 Indiana Pacers fan Hans Perez who was wearing a Pacers jersey on the streets of New York had garbage thrown and was heckled by fans got invited by the Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton to come to game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals in Indianapolis. Perez a firefighter and has a Pacers tattoo on his wrist explained what happened on the Pat McAfee Show.

#3 The Oklahoma City Thunder All Star Jalen Williams was fined $25,000 for wearing clothing that had profane language after Sunday’s game the NBA Playoff game. The decision came after the Thunder’s win against the Denver Nuggets 125-93 in game 7 of the conference semifinals playoff series. Williams clothing read “F art lets dance.”

#4  The Cleveland Cavaliers basketball operations president Koby Altman knows next season there will be some different ideas in preparing. The Cavaliers were the top seeded team to get into the post season only to lose to the Indiana Pacers in the conference semifinals. Altman said the most important goals are to be mentally and physically ready to be one of the top teams in the NBA.

#5 The 2025 NBA Playoffs on ESPN and ABC have seen a rise in their TV ratings up 12% from last season. Through 22 Conference Semifinals ESPN is averaging 4,883,000 viewers. These playoffs are the second most watched NBA Playoffs since the 2011 NBA Playoffs.

On the NBA Playoffs podcast David Zizmor:

#1 Oklahoma City Thunder Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led with 31 points and in the second half of the game scored 20 in OKC’s 114-88 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves Tuesday night in the first game of the Western Conference Finals.

#2 The Timberwolves Julius Randle led with 28 point but scored only eight points in the second half. Not of enough Randle scoring but the spread was so wide for the Wolves to try and catch up.

#3 OKC leads the series 1-0 they dominated in the scoring in game 1 but one game is not four of seven not. Are the Timberwolves equip to come back and make this series interesting? Game 2 Thu May 22 at OKC how do you see this match up?

#1 San Francisco Giants came back down 2-1 with their 13th comeback of the season to sweep and defeat the Sacramento A’s 3-2 on Sunday. The Giants are now tied for the most comeback wins in MLB.

#2 San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy who signed a $265 million five year contract becomes the eighth highest paid quarterback in the NFL. Question is will Purdy get the protection from his offensive line or will he be running for his life. Also the 49ers have been scheduled for five prime time games despite struggling and losing their last four games in a row in 2024.

#3 Golden State Warriors will regroup after their rough post season losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves and losing their start player Stephen Curry due to a hamstring injury. The Warriors are still trying to decide Jonathan Kuminga’s role for next season and will he be back?

On the NBA Playoffs Western Conference semifinals podcast Michael Roberson:

#1 Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray who had an undisclosed illness said there was nothing that was going to have him sit this game 6 out. Murray ended up scoring 25 points as the Nuggets defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 119-107 on Thursday night.

 #2 Murray had been sick the previous 24 hours but who’d thunk when Murray had a four point play and shot a three pointer to get the fourth quarter started. It was a quarter that the Nuggets wound up edging the Thunder by five points 29-25.

#3 The Nuggets Nikola Jokic led with 29 point and 14 rebound and eight assists. Christian Braun scored 23 points which is a career best in a playoff game. Julian Strawther helped the Nuggets getting a playoff career high 15 points in the second half of the game.

#4 The Nuggets and Thunder conclude this seven game series Sunday in Oklahoma City on Sunday afternoon. It’s been a back and forth series with the Thunder winning games four and five and the Nuggets avoiding elimination in game six. How do you see this match up.

NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals podcast:

#1 25 years of waiting is over for the New York Knicks who reached the Eastern Conference Finals with a 119-81 game 6 win on Friday night over the Boston Celtics who were last season’s NBA Finals champion.

#2 The Knicks Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby both scored 23 points that helped lead the Knicks to the series win over the Celtics. Both were key in getting the Knicks this far.

#3 Makai Bridges had 22 points and Karl Anthony Towns had 21 points and the Knicks 38 point win over the Celtics was the biggest win in a post season game.

#4 The Celtics Jaylen Brown had 20 points but without Jayson Tatum who was out with a ruptured Achilles tendon in game 4 the Celtics were down a crucial player and couldn’t get the job done.

#5 Next up for the New York Knicks the Indiana Pacers who defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-1 in the last round. The Knicks and Pacers tip off Wed May 21st at Madison Square Garden for game 1 of the third round.

NBA Playoffs/Golden State Warriors podcast Mon May 12, 2025:

#1 Is age starting to creep up over experience. The Golden State Warriors just a few championship years back were younger and could back up the swagger. This post season the younger team the Minnesota Timberwolves have the edge as they got by the Warriors on Monday night in game four 117-110.

#2 The Timberwolves Anthony Edwards had 30 points for his second game in row scoring at least 30 points.

# 3 Julius Randle was also a tough customer to shut down scoring 31 points and leading the Timberwolves in scoring. Randle has been key in this series.

#4 It’s pretty evident without Curry in the line up the Warriors are missing his offense and that’s been the part that has been missing to get over the hump.

#5 Timberwolves take a 3-1 series lead back to Minnesota and with Edwards and Randle being that one two punch they could end this series at the Target Center in Minneapolis and get ready for the third round. The Warriors best chances is if they can get Curry back and he’s got to be lights out coming of that hamstring injury for game 5 on Wednesday night.

#1 David, despite the Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry out with a hamstring and Draymond Green getting into foul trouble the Warriors were still in front of the Minnesota Timberwolves by five points in the fourth quarter in game three and it looked like they had a shot at putting this game away.

#2 The Timberwolves Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle got hot with 1:19 remaining. Edwards hit a baseline three point shot and scored 36 points and Randle scored 24 points with 12 assists and ten rebounds and erased the Warriors lead and won by five 102-97 on Saturday night at Chase Center.

#3 For game four the Warriors need to tie this one up or got back to Minnesota down 3-1. Warriors have the home floor at Chase Center how do you see game 4 for Monday night.

NBA Playoffs podcast Michael Roberson:

#1 The New York Knicks were down 20 points but big help from Mikal Bridges. For the second night in a row Bridges stole the ball for a game ending steal and the Knicks once again came away with a razor close 91-90 win to take a 2-0 series lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

#2 The Knicks Jalen Brunson scored 17 points and hit two free throws and did it all with just 12.7 second left in the game. Every basket counted in this game for the Knicks to pull this one off.

#3  Turning to the Oklahoma City Thunder Shai Gilgeous-Alexander erupted for 34 points in three quarter of work against the Denver Nuggets in a 149-106 landslide in game 2 of the Western Conference Finals tying the series at 1-1.

#4 The Thunder who scored 87 points in the first half set an NBA playoff record for the most points in a first half. The previous holder were the Cleveland Cavaliers who did it against the Golden State Warriors with 86 points in game 4 of the NBA Finals on June 9, 2017.
