Sacramento Kings forward Nemanja Bjelica (8) reaches in over the head of the Houston Rockets guard Eric Gordon (10) for a foul on Thu Mar 11, 2021 at Golden One Center in Sacramento (AP News photo)

On the Sacramento Kings podcast with Jeremiah:

#1 The Sacramento Kings (15-22) continue to show improvement getting a win against the Houston Rockets (11-24) at Golden One Center in Sacramento on Thursday night 125-105.

#2 This win showed that since they defeated the Los Angeles Lakers and narrowly lost to the Portland Trailblazers there has been some improvement over the course of the last three games.

#3 The Kings De’Aaron Fox continues to have strong offensive nights leading the Kings in scoring against the Rockets with 30.

#4 Anytime you get three players finishing second in scoring with 20 points Harrison Barnes, Richaun Holmes, and Buddy Hield it speaks volumes to offense that needs to get back on track.

#5 The Kings travel to Atlanta to face the Hawks (17-20) on Sat Mar 13th. The Hawks have won five of their last eight games so this might be a little bit more of a challenge than this last game with Houston.

Sac Kings game wrap: Kings Fox scores 30 in 125-105 win over Rockets

By Jeremiah Salmonson

The Sacramento Kings were back in action on Thursday night and took a crucial game for the win at Golden One Center in Sacramento 125-105 against the visiting Houston Rockets.

Flashback to Mar 4th: The Kings had a week long break as the NBA took a week long hiatus to celebrate the best players in the league. In the Kings last game before the All Star break, they played the Portland Trail Blazers. When the Kings played the Trail Blazers a week ago, the Kings put up a fight. The Kings displayed more defense in the game against the Trail Blazers but it ultimately wasn’t enough to stop Damian Lillard. Lillard scored 44 points and put on a show against the Kings. The Kings weren’t able to get a win heading into the All Star break losing 123-119.

Thursday game recap: The Kings would be looking to get the second half off to a good start against a struggling Houston Rockets team on Thursday. The Rockets had lost 13 straight games coming into Sacramento and the Kings were looking to take advantage. Tip off was set for 7 PM PST in Sacramento.

In the first half, The Kings handed it to the Rockets. The first quarter was close with the Kings out scoring the Rockets 35-33 as neither team played any defense. However, the Kings turned it on in the second quarter.

The Kings managed to outscore the Rockets 30-18 in a very lopsided quarter that saw the Kings finish the half with a 14 point 65-51 lead. The Kings had to feel confident going into the second half against a struggling team.

In the second half, Houston kept the Kings within reach in the third quarter. Houston and Sacramento both scored 30 points in the third as the Kings would take their same lead at halftime into the final quarter up 95-81.

In the fourth, the Kings sealed the deal. The Kings outscored the Rockets 30-24 in the final quarter to hand the Rockets their 14th straight loss. For the Kings it was an encouraging sign.

They managed to get a win coming out of the All Star break against a very poor team. Leading the way for the Kings in victory was De’Aaron Fox who had 30 points as Victor Oladipo led the way for the Rockets with 23 points. The Kings will look to keep the momentum heading into their next game.

Up Next: The Kings will head on the road to take on the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday at 4:30 PM PST in Atlanta.

Clippers blow out the Warriors 130-104; Kawhi tops leader board with 28 pts for Clippers

Kawhi Leonard (left) the Los Angeles Clippers forward takes a shot against the Golden State Warriors Andrew Wiggins (22) on Thu Mar 11, 2021 at Staples Center in Los Angeles (AP News photo)

By Jerry Feitelberg

The Warriors started the second half of the NBA on a sour note against the Clippers Thursday night at the Staples Center. Hoping to snap a three-game losing streak, the Warriors did not look like they were in sync.

They did play a competitive first period. They found themselves trailing 12-3 in the early going. The Warriors fought hard and went ahead 23-22. The Clippers finished the quarter with a slim two-point advantage 28-26. The Warriors never regained the lead.

The Clippers dominated play in the second and third quarters to put the game out of reach. In the second quarter, Steve Kerr’s second unit could not get the job done. He inserted Nico Mannion and Jordan Poole in the backcourt instead of Damion Lee and Brad Wanamaker.

Eric Paschall was in the center position. The Clippers’ defense shut down the small ball by holding them to four points in almost six minutes of playing time. Steph Curry, Andrew Wiggins, and Draymond Green returned, but they could not get the Warriors back into the game.

The Clippers outscored the Warriors 31-17 to finish the first half with a 16 point advantage 59-43. Kelly Oubre, Jr. was the only Warriors in double-figures. Kelly had 11 points and five boards. Andrew Wiggins had nine, and Curry finished with seven. Jordan Poole had three, and Nico Mannion did not score. Kawhi Leonard paced the Clippers with 20 points. Serge Ibaka had nine.

The Clippers blew the game wide open in the third quarter. LA outscored the Warriors 45-25 to finish the quarter with a commanding 36-point lead. Curry had seven points in the period, but it was clear that he, Draymond Green, and Andrew Wiggins were not going to play the fourth quarter.

Kerr inserted the Warriors rookie center, James Wiseman, into the lineup to start the fourth period. Wiseman, who was in Kerr’s doghouse for missing a Covid-19 test on Wednesday, finally got his chance to play.

Kerr wanted Wiseman to get more playing time to hone his skills. Kerr wanted to have him cool his heels as punishment for missing the test. Jordan Poole and Nico Mannion played the entire fourth quarter, too.

The Warriors’ bench outplayed the Clippers’ bench 36-26. Wiseman knocked down 14 points and had seven rebounds in 12 minutes of action. Poole had 11 to finish the night with 14. Mannion added ten. The Clippers put the Warriors away 130-104.

Game Notes and Stats: The Clippers snapped a three-game losing streak to improve to 25-14. The Warriors lost their fourth in a row and are 19-19 for the year,

Four of the Warriors starters were in double-figures. Andrew Wiggins had 15 points and eight boards. Kelly Oubre had 15 points and six rebounds. Curry finished with 14 points, three rebounds, and four assists. He was six-for-sixteen from the floor. Curry, who won the NBA 3-point shooting contest at the All-Star game Sunday, was a woeful one-for-eight from downtown.

Kawhi Leonard led the Clippers with 28 points, Ibaka had a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Paul George had 17, Lou William 14.

The Warriors have their work cut out for them as they meet the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City on Sunday. The Jazz has the best record in the NBA Western Conference. The Warriors return home to face the Los Angeles Lakers at the Chase Center Monday night. The Lakers crushed the Warriors in LA in a game just before the All-Star break. The game will start at 7:30 pm.

#4 Also Tony talk about guard Buddy Hield he’s just behind Fox in scoring he was second last Thursday with 21 points and has been a big part of the scoring for Sacramento.

#5 The Houston Rockets (11-23) are next up the Rockets have lost 13 straight games as they visit the Sacramento Kings on Thursday night Mar 11th at Golden One Center. The Rockets really haven’t been the same since James Harden left.

Golden State Warriors podcast with David Zizmor: How serious is Golden State about trading Wiseman?

Golden State Warriors rookie center James Wiseman the center of trade rumors has the Minnesota Timberwolves shopping. The Warriors are asking for some of a “generational superstar” status (image from USA Today)

On the Warriors podcast with David:

#1 With the trade talks about Warriors rookie center James Wiseman would it be safe to say the Warriors have given up on Wiseman and why?

#2 Were the Warriors opened to trading Wiseman to the Minnesota Timberwolves but want someone of the caliber of a Joel Embiid or Giannis Antekounmpo. Warriors sources have said they would have to acquire a “generational superstar.”

#3 The Warriors are back against the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday night as we just mentioned they’re open to making a deal for Wiseman does this reflect some of the concern they many have being on a three game losing streak and having struggled this season and Stephen Curry carrying a lot of the weight?

Joe Embiid (21) and Ben Simmons (25) of the Philadelphia 76ers both were removed from playing in the NBA All Star Game due to Covid-19 protocol issues on Sun Mar 7, 2021 in Atlanta (@sixers)

#2 Barbara, the Sacramento Kings (14-22) have been playing .500 ball in their last four games. The Kings lost their last game to the Portland Trailblazers (21-14) 123-119 on Thursday night. The Kings previous game to that one was a shocker as they defeated the Los Angeles Lakers (24-13) 123-120 also memorable because LeBron did not play.

Team LeBron runs past Team Durant 170-150 at the NBA All-Star game

Team LeBron James captain Lebron James runs the floor against Team Kevin Durant battles at the 2021 NBA All Star Game in Atlanta State Farm Arena Sun Mar 7, 2021 (AP News photo)

By Jerry Feitelberg

The NBA played its annual All-Star game in Atlanta Sunday night. There was some controversy as several players, including LeBron James, would have preferred the game not to be played this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Two of the players selected, Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers, could not play as they were exposed to someone who contracted the disease.

The game’s purpose was to raise money for the HBCUs (Historic Black Colleges and Universities) and The United Negro College Fund. The amount of money won depended on which team won each quarter. LeBron James was captain of Team LeBron and Kevin Durant captain of Team Durant. Durant did not play due to an injury.

Team LeBron won all four quarters to raise 1.25 Million dollars for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. Team Durant $500,000 for the United Negro College Fund.

Team LeBron put five fantastic players on the floor to start the game. The Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James were the forwards. Nikola Jokic was at the center position. The Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry and the Portland Trail Blazers made up the backcourt. Team Durant starters were Zion Williamson, Kawhi Leonard, Jayson Tatum, Bradley Beal, and Kyrie Irving.

Team Lebron squeaked out a 40-39 win in the first quarter.  Curry helped his team win the quarter with 12 points. Curry made four threes.

The two teams played a very competitive second quarter. Team LeBron led 31-30. At this point, Team LeBron went on a 19-2 run to cruise to an easy 60-41 win in the second quarter.

Team Lebron kept running the court and knocking down threes and making spectacular lobs and dunks. Antetokounmpo continued to make baskets to keep his team ahead. Paul George and Jaylen Brown knocked down threes to pace Team LeBron to another win 46-32. Team LeBron led 146-125 after three quarters.

The NBA changed the rules for the fourth quarter. The winner of the game would be the team that reached 170 points irrespective of the clock.  Curry, Damian Lillard, and Antetokounmpo  wanted to end the game as soon as possible.

Curry and Lillard knocked down threes. With the score at 167-150, Curry missed a three that would have won the game. He didn’t get another chance as Lillard hit a three from downtown to win it for Team LeBron.

Game Notes and Stats: Antetokounmpo set an All-Star record as he was 16-for-16 from the floor. He made 13 buckets for 26 points and three threes to finish with 35 for the night. Antetokounmpo was awarded the Kobe Bryant Trophy for the game’s Most Valuable Player.

Danion Lilliard had 32 points. Lillard connected on eight threes. The Warriors’ Curry, who won the three-point shooting contest earlier in the evening, had 28 points. Curry was ten-for 19 from the floor, and he made eight threes.

The Boston Celtics’ Jaylen Brown finished with 22, and he connected on five from downtown. The Clippers’ Paul George had 17, the Mavericks’ Luka Doncic eight. Rudy Gobert had ten, Nikola Kokic six, Chris Paul six points, and 16 assists. Paul may have either tied the record for assists or broken it. LeBron James played 12 minutes and scored four points.

Team LeBron shot an astounding 63.6% from the floor. They made 31 threes in 61 tries. Team Durant shot 52.6% from the floor. They made 27 three in 72 attempts. There were not a lot of free throws in the game. Each team had five free throws.

Bradley Beal led Team Durant with 26. Kyrie Irving had 24. James Harden and Jayson Tatum each had 21. Donovan Mitchell had 15, Zach LaVine 13, Zion Williamson 10, and Kawhi Leonard 8.

As mentioned earlier,  Curry won the three-point shooting contest. Curry won the contest for the second time. He won the first crown in 2015. The Blazers’ Anfernee Simons won the Slam Dunk Contest.

Sacramento Kings podcast with Jeremiah Salmonson: Game just narrowly slips past Kings in loss to Portland

The Portland Trailblazers guard Damion Lillard (0) goes for the lay up against the Sacramento Kings forward Nemanja Bjelica (8) on Thu Mar 4, 2021 in Portland (AP News photo)

On the Kings podcast with Jeremiah:

#1 The Kings (14-22) hung all game with the Portland Trailblazers (21-14) but in the end just couldn’t put the final touches on the Blazers in the 123-119 loss.

#2 The Trailblazers top scorer Damion Lillard led with 44 points Lillard one of the key factors that the Trailblazers were able to pull this game off against the Kings.

#3 The Kings used only eight players in the contest and had seven of them finish in double figures led by De’Aaron Fox with 32 points. The Kings good enough to win but just couldn’t finish.

#4 The Kings for all four quarters were able to hang with the Blazers they had definitely improved on offense and defense and it show when they beat the Lakers on Wednesday night and in this loss to Portland on Thursday night.

#5 The Kings are in Houston against the Rockets (11-23) on Thursday night the Rockets are certainly a different team since James Harden left.

Sacramento Kings game wrap: Kings played improved ball but can’t hang on with Blazers 123-119

The Portland Trailblazers forward Robert Covington tried prying the ball out of the hands of the Sacramento Kings forward Nemanja Bjelica during first half action Thu Mar 4, 2021’s contest in Portland (AP News photo)

By Jeremiah Salmonson

The day has finally arrived for Kings players. That day is the end of the first half of the 2021 season. The first half of the season has been very up and down for the Kings. They went on a streak of winning 7-8 games, and also a nine game losing streak. It was really a tale of two teams.

On Thursday night, the Kings would suit up for the last time before the All Star break. It would be the second night of a back to back after playing in Sacramento against the Lakers the night before.

In Wednesday’s game, the King battled. It wasn’t the cleanest game of all time but the Kings did manage to pull out the win against the Lakers. Granted, the Lakers were without their stars Lebron James and Anthony Davis. The Kings managed to win 123-120.

Thursday night, the Kings would be on the road against the Portland Trail Blazers in Portland. Tip-off was set for 7 PM PST. Only to lose it in a close well battled game between the two clubs with the Blazers winning 123-114.

In the first half, the Kings played well. They didn’t allow the Blazers to take a large lead and kept the game close. The Kings were out scored 30-27 in the first quarter as they looked to solidify the defensive end of the floor.

In the second quarter, The Kings and Blazers both scored 29 points to send the game into halftime with a 59-56 lead over the Kings. The Kings would look to continue the decent defense in the second half to keep the game close.

In the second half, the Kings pulled ahead early. After the third quarter, in which the Kings out scored the Blazers 34-30, the Kings offense began to show life. It would be up to the defense in the fourth quarter to contain Damion Lillard and come away with a win.

That wasn’t to happen. The Blazers out scored the Kings 34-29 in the final quarter to beat the Kings. The Kings played sloppy offense in the final minute which ultimately cost them the game.

Lillard finished the game with 44 points and the Kings were led by De’Aaron Fox who had 32. This was the Kings final game before the All Star break and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some roster moves when the next Kings game takes place.

Up next: The All Star break will last until Thursday March 11th when the Kings welcome in the Houston Rockets at 7 PM PST in Sacramento.
