#1 The NCAA handed down a four year show-cause Wednesday for recruiting violations against former Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh for  impermissible contact with players and recruits. Harbaugh made contact with recruits and players during Covid 19 restrictions and is banned from college athletics for the next four years. Harbaugh is the current head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers.

#2 Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker long time veteran who likes to keep low key when it comes to his off field life. Butker who gave a speech on May 11th at Benedictine College at a small Catholic college in rural Kansas. Critics of his speech said it was homophobic and sexist but Butker wasn’t backing down from criticizing pride month and saying a woman’s place is in he home. Butker says he stands by what he says.

#3 Michael, big news for the Cal Bears this week three star quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele who is the No.1 prospect in Hawaii has said he would commit to Cal. Cal head coach Justin Wilcox said the Bears have chosen the number one uncommitted quarterback in the 2025 class. Sagapolutele stands 6’2 and is a pocket passer from Ewa Beach Hawaii.

#4 Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson said he lost weight because he didn’t like the way he moved. Jackson reported to camp in weighing 200 lbs. Last season Jackson lost 30 lbs 2022 and Jackson was 15 lbs lighter in 2023.

#5 It was a tough decision to make but the 49ers released defensive lineman Arik Armstead back in March. The 49ers and Armstead couldn’t come to an agreement to keep Armstead for a tenth season. For nine seasons Armstead was a mainstay and the 49ers were a better team with him than without him.

#1 Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora and the Red Sox are in negotiations for a contract extension that would give him an extra three years at $21.75 million. The Sox as of Tuesday are 54-46 and are one game back of the Kansas City Royals for the final wild card spot.

#2 Michael you cover the Milwaukee Brewers pretty closely and the Brewers have place Christian Yelich on the ten day IL due back inflammation. Yelich is schedule to see a specialist Thursday to figure out what to do next. Yelich’s back had been bothering him in recent weeks. You saw him at the All Star game but after the break is now on the IL.

#3 It’s been said that the New York Yankees Juan Soto and Aaron Judge are the best one two punch since Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. That said the Yankees have struggled and are 10-21 since the start of the season when the Yanks were 50-22.

#4 Turning to the NCAA you probably aren’t surprised that after realignment some schools would not be all too please. In the ACC, Commissioner Jim Phillips said he would fight lawsuits filed by Clemson and Florida State University. The lawsuits are over the schools withdrawal penalty and grant of rights and gets uglier as the NCAA has filed a countersuit. Phillips said the NCAA is fighting for the protection of league and it’s members and that both Clemson and FSU both signed off for the grant of rights.

#5 Tuesday the Cal Bears and Stanford Cardinal made their ACC Media Day appearances. Stanford football head coach Troy Taylor said that the Cardinal need to adapt quickly or they will not be relevant this upcoming season. Taylor as well as the ACC schools are trying to make the adjustment to the realignment and division switches that Taylor said was at first shocking to see such a traditional conference like the Pac 10 just suddenly go away.

#1 Former Denver Bronco Terrell Davis lawyer Parker Stinar is considering taking United Airlines to court after an UA flight attendant accused Davis of hitting when Davis and his family were flying from Denver to Orange County to go to Disneyland. Those vacation plans were set aside after the FBI and Orange County Sheriffs slapped the cuffs on Davis and accused him of assault. When it was later found out that he tapped the flight attendant supported by another passenger who said that Davis didn’t hit the attendant Davis was released from custody. Davis and Stinar are considering litigating United for defamation of character and the FBI and Orange County Sheriffs for false imprisonment. Michael did this all boil down to a matter of Davis “flying while black” as it was mentioned in some the interviews with Davis? Davis said, “I certainly felt like that wouldn’t have happened if I were a white person.”

#2 No one thought at least in Indiana Fever Caitlin Clark’s rookie season that she would be able to pull off some record setting numbers but Clark did it breaking the WNBA all time with 19 assists Wednesday night against the Dallas Wings, Clark also had 24 points and went 10-19 in shooting has hit her stride. This is the final WNBA game before the league takes an Olympic break for a month.

#3 Michael how much pressure is on Los Angeles Lakers Bronny James to go out and have a superstar performance each night. Bronny hit a 17 foot shot off a screen, he’s averaging 4.3 points per game with a 22% field goal percentage. That’s got to be a lot of pressure just for being LeBron’s son?

#4 Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Aidan O’Connell has been getting support from wide receiver DeVante Adams. Adams says that O’Connell has grown. Adams said he should be the starting quarterback for the season. Adams says the chemistry is right and he’s really looking forward to working with O’Connell this season.

#5 The 2024 MLB All Star Game in Arlington drew a TV rating of 7,443,000 viewers which outdrew the 2023 All Star Game that was played in Seattle. The bad news is the 2024 Mid Summer Classic was the second lowest rated All Star Game in TV ratings. There’s always next All Star Game in Atlanta.

#1 Michael, after 27 years as a professional tennis player Serena Williams will be retiring from the game. Serena 23 singles, 14 doubles, two in mixed doubles, and four Olympic gold medals a Hall of Fame achievement in the sport. What will Serena’s mean for her and mean for the sport.

#2 Michael, former San Jose Shark goaltender Adin Hill joins the Vegas Golden Knights. Hill played for the Sharks last season and had signed a two year contract with San Jose in 2021. Hill was 10-11-1 with 2.66 goals against between the pipes for the Sharks. Vegas general manager Kelly McCrimmon said of Hill, “It gives us a lot more comfort going into the year. I believe Adin has a lot of ability and he has really good size.”

#3 Michael, Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson is recovery from being shot twice after robbers attempted to carjack his car Sunday. The Commanders are optimistic that Robinson who did not suffer life threatening injuries could return by the week 4 of the NFL season and is currently on the unrelated game IL. His recovery has been remarkable in this short span of time.

#4 Michael, how bare bones will have to get for the PGA as Cameron Smith and five other players have left the tour for the Super Saudi League LIV. Will some of the departures in the PGA threaten to put the status of talent in jeopardy?

#5 New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge is now ten home runs away from tying the all time American League home run record which is held by former New York Yankee Roger Maris at 61. Judge hit number 51 on Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Angels at the Big A in Anaheim.

#1 Michael, the Chicago Sky (26-10) knocked off the New York Liberty (46-20) in the WNBA playoffs on Tuesday night 90-72. The Sky’s guard Kahleah Cooper and Allie Quigley both scored 15 each to lead Chicago to victory. There is no doubt the Sky is having an incredible post season.

#2 Michael, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said the Hawks will take all the time they need in finding a new quarterback. There was that push for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo but the Hawks are waiting for the 49ers release him.

#3 Michael in spite of the Tom Brady headlines Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr says to “just keep trying to play football” Carr will not let the Brady story be a distraction.

#4 Michael, the San Diego Wave are setting attendance records in the NWSL the Wave sold over 27,000 tickets for it’s Sep 17th game against Angel City FC. The Waves’ Alex Morgan was proud to announce the Women’s soccer sale number for the September game.

#5 Los Angeles Dodger Walker Buehler will be sorely missed. Buehler will undergo his second Tommy John surgery to repair a flexor tendon and will miss not only the rest of this season but all of 2023 as well.

#1 WNBA Commissioner Catherine Engelbert said that the league is trying improve the player experience by including charter flights for players in the WNBA Finals. Englebert said the league is planning to improve the post season player pools which would double what the player gets when reaching the championship.

#2 Los Angeles Laker LeBron James asked on his You Tube talk show “The Shop Uninterrupted” why would WNBA star Brittney Griner would want to return to a country that has taken so much time to find a resolution for her. LeBron asked “Now, how can she feel like America has her back?” 

#3 JaMarcus Russell the former Oakland Raider quarterback from 2007-10 talked about his days as a Raider on the Pivot Podcast saying that his former coach Tom Cable had it in for him as soon as he took over as head coach. Cable also brought in quarterbacks Bruce Gradkowski and Charlie Frye who eventually took over for him. Russell who has been called on of the biggest busts in football and the Raiders didn’t pay him the rest of his remaining money on his contract.

#4 Clark County district attorney Steve Wolfson  said that he’s been a defense and prosecutor in 40 years of practice but has never worked on a case involving a 156 MPH speeding crash that killed Las Vegas resident Tina Tintor and her dog on the night of Nov 2, 2021. As former Las Vegas Raider Henry Ruggs sits in jail waiting for his day in court in September where he faces 2 to 50 years in prison for driving under the influence resulting in death and reckless driving, and was put on house arrest, with alcohol and location electronic monitoring devices. His breath alcohol tests will be admissible in court as evidence. Evidence that Ruggs lawyers were trying to get thrown out.

#5 Michael, MLB All Star Game kicks off with the Future’s Game this Saturday at Dodgers Stadium. Workers for the Dodgers who work food services have voted to strike unless Levy Restaurant Services who is the contractor give workers a fair living wage. Right now stadium food service workers make $15-$17 an hour and are asking for a $20 raise which would on par with what Los Angeles Rams employees received in their last contract. If no deal is done other stadium workers who are unionized most likely will not cross the picket lines.
