Celtics steal the game and the show from Warriors 120-108; Boston’s Horford leads with 26 points

Thursday night the Golden State Warriors took on the Boston Celtics in game one of the NBA finals. Head Coach Steve Kerr described this year’s journey as a “rocky road.” “Everyone came into this season really hungry,” he said.

The Warriors battled injury throughout the season and have proven time and time again just how resilient they are and how they handle adversity. Unfortunately for Golden State in Game 1 of the NBA Finals the Celtics took adversity to their hosts at Chase Center in San Francisco defeating the Warriors 120-108 to go up 1-0.

The Warriors dismissed the Denver Nuggets 4-1 in the first round of the playoffs. They went on to take a 4-2 series from the Memphis Grizzlies. In the Western Conference Finals, the Warriors went right through Luca Doncic and the Mavericks to win the series 4-1.

Golden State has seen some brilliant basketball and at times some less than stellar play. There was far more of the latter than the former and they now are aiming for the ultimate prize; becoming the NBA Champions.

Game 1 recap: The Warriors had an amazing opening quarter. They were leading 32-28 after the first quarter and Stephen Curry was playing lights out basketball from the start.

Curry had six three’s in the quarter and was the driving force in this game. The Celtics were having trouble defensively to start the game and were playing catch up from the start. Although it was a close game the Celtics had yet to take the lead.

With 5:01 left in the second quarter the Celtics tied up the game at 47. Marcus Smart had begun to have a lot success containing Curry. Curry was unable to score in the entire second quarter.

With 2:32 left in the half Boston took their first lead of the game since mid-way through the first quarter 51-49. At the half Boston had a slim two point 56-54 lead. The Celtics defense had really come to life presenting a lot of problems for the Warriors especially the Marcus Smart-Curry matchup.

The third quarter was a frenzied one. The Curry shot drought came to and end and after three the Warriors had taken a 92-80 lead. Off the bench Otto Porter Jr. had 12 points and was just another reason for the Golden State turnaround. Andrew Wiggins had 20 points after three quarters and the Warriors defense had shown up in the third quarter.

The Warriors started the fourth quarter with a few misses and in a flash the Celtics trailed by five 92-87. With five minutes left in the final quarter the Warriors let the Celtics off the hook.

Boston took a 106-103 lead and the tide had really turned in favor of the Celtics. Jalen Brown was the driving force in the turnaround for Boston. The Celtics continued to extend their lead and with 3:23 left in the game had a 111-103 lead.

Golden State had really taken their foot off the pedal. They were missing inside the paint, from long and from the line. Boston on the other hand could not miss in the final minutes. The Celtics would take the first game of the series.

Golden State had suffered their first home loss of the playoffs. A sullen Curry made his way to the locker room after the game. He finished the game with 34 points but it was the letdown in the fourth quarter coupled with the red hot shooting by Boston that decided this game.

The Warriors had held Jason Tatum to 17 points but Al Horford picked up the slack with 26 points along with Jaylen Brown with 24. Boston took full advantage of the Warrior meltdown in the fourth quarter to win the game. They outscored Golden State 40-16 in the final quarter, a real shocker.

Game Two is scheduled for Sunday at 5:00. The Warriors will try to get back on the winning track at Chase before heading back to Boston for game three.

#1 Dave, just how stingy are the Celtics defense of all the NBA teams have been the toughest. Celtics head coach Ime Udoka has a seven to eight man rotation going in post season and on those defenses the Celtics are above average.

#2 The Warriors usual suspects Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and the many of the other Warriors have given teams that were expected to do some damage to the Warriors offense but were beaten. Can you see the Celtics defense having any effect on the Warriors offense in this series in spite of the big three.

#1 Barbara, for fifth and final game between the Golden State Warriors and Dallas Mavericks at Chase Center in San Francisco was it pretty much of an easy prediction that the Warriors after losing game 4 in Dallas and having home floor in game 5 they would have a great chance to wrap up the series?

#2 Barbara, the Warriors scored 41 points in the second quarter did you pretty much feel that was a quarter that set the tone for Golden State in game 5.

The Golden State Warriors have made consecutive finals that stretch right there already qualifies for the dynasty that run from 2013-19 that core of dynasty they’ve proven their talents are well beyond.

If you look at the Warriors in this and past finals they’ve established themselves since 2013. During the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons Klay Thompson was out for two seasons. Stephen Curry broke his had two seasons ago. Green was holding down the fort during that period while Curry and Thompson was out.

In that last season the Warriors finished eight in the Western Conference last season was about getting back on their feet. Wiggins helped a great deal on offense and it was about Curry getting healthy from his foot injury.

Warriors Headed To the NBA Finals Beating Dallas 120-110

Thursday night the Golden State Warriors (4-1) took on the Dallas Mavericks (1-4) in Game Five of the Western Conference Final series with one objective in mind. They were looking to close this series out and head back into the NBA Finals. The Warriors fell behind in Game Four by 29 points but fought back to lose by ten points.

They had enough in the fourth quarter of that game to win but fell short in the first three quarters. A fast start would be a must in game five and they had to dictate play in this game through four quarters. The ebb and flow of the game had to be on Golden State’s terms and terms it was as the Warriors shut the door on the Mavericks coming away with a ten point 120-110 at the Chase Center in San Francisco.

The Warriors needed Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole to step up in this game and both of them answered the call. They both had a great first half. The Warriors had the lead after the first quarter 28-23. They started out fast and the Mavericks never had the lead in the first 12 minutes.

The Warriors would extend their lead at the half 69-52. Golden State really held the Mavericks Luka Doncic under wraps. After nearly three quarters Doncic had been held to 15 points.

With one minute left in the third quarter there was a momentum shift that made Warrior fans more than a little nervous. A few turnovers, blocked shots, a shot clock violation and Dallas had pulled to within eight points 92-84. After three quarters the Warriors held a 94-84 lead. The 14-0 Dallas run in the quarter was more than disturbing.

With 5:28 left in the game the Warriors held a 110-97 lead. Both teams were fighting tooth and nail. Draymond Green left the game with five personal fouls. Some incredible defensive effort by the Warriors was keeping them in this game. With 4:10 left Golden State was looking for some stellar defense as Green came back into the game.

When it counted the most Dallas began to miss shots and we saw the Splash Brothers start hitting three’s. This spelled the end for the Dallas Mavericks and the Golden State Warriors were the Western Conference Champions and headed for the NBA Finals.

Doncic finished with 28 points but the Warriors proved too hot to handle. Six Warriors finished in double digits with Thompson leading the way with 32 points going 8 of 16 from downtown. He was magnificent.

It was a proud and happy moment as Draymond Green hoisted the Oscar Robertson trophy.

“This is special because this is a group that no one thought would ever be back here. Klay Thompson with two catastrophic injuries and Steph Curry breaks his hand,” said Draymond Green. “This group continues to come everyday and put the work in. Our coaching staff has been amazing and we’re here,” he said.

Golden State awaits the winner of the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics. Going into game six of that series, the Celtics are leading 3-2. Boston will be looking to close out the top-seeded Heat Friday night.

#1 Dave did the leaky roof that delayed the start of the game play into the Golden State Warriors momentum there was a 16 minute delay to start game 4 last night? Also before the game Warrior head coach Steve Kerr addressed the media was in no mood to talk basketball and addressed the mass shooting at an elementary school outside of San Antonio. He clearly said something needs to be done.

#2 Dave talk about that first half in yesterday’s game four the Dallas Mavericks had a pretty good lead on the Golden State Warriors at the half 62-47. It looked like the Mavericks came out with a offensive game plan something different than the first three games in this series and got the 119-109 win.

#3 In the fourth quarter the Mavericks didn’t get into the high 20s in scoring as the Warriors supplied the defense but for Golden State it wasn’t enough as the Warriors went down in game four losing by ten points.

#4 Dave, game five moves to San Francisco, the Warriors having the home floor look at this as an another opportunity to get the job done on Thursday night at Chase Center.

Warriors Come Up Short Against Dallas 119-109

Tuesday evening the Golden State Warriors (3-1) took on the Dallas Mavericks (1-3) at American Airlines Center. This is a tale of two teams. The Mavericks had faced a must win situation not having won a single game in this series.

There was no room for error for Dallas: it was win big or go home. Golden State had a completely different scenario. They needed to win one more game to move onto the NBA Finals. Golden State had everything going for them going into game 4 but it was not to be for the Warriors losing game 4 119-109.

Game 4 recap: In the first quarter, Dallas had a much different start then they did in Game Three. They were aggressive, disciplined and accurate. As the first 12 minutes expired Dallas held a 28-24 lead. The long ball was right on point for the Mavericks.

Dallas would pour it on in the second quarter. They were piling up three’s and had extended their lead 56-42 with three minutes left in the first half. It was the kind of game that we fully expected to see from Dallas. This was not a team that would roll over. The Mavs led at the half 52-47.

In a crazy turn the third quarter was delayed when American Airlines Center popped a leak. Dallas was experiencing a severe thunder storm and there were a number of leaks some of which found their way onto the court.

When the third quarter finally got underway it continued to rain on the court, raining three’s for Dallas that is. The Mavericks could not miss in the paint or beyond the arc as they continued to build their lead.

The only Warrior with double digits mid-way through the third quarter was Stephen Curry in a real lackluster game for Golden State. It was so lopsided that it was almost shocking when the Mavericks actually missed a shot. They had 19 three’s in the game so far and only five turnovers leading 99-70.

There was a real shift in the fourth quarter for the Warriors. The Mavericks began to miss shots and the Warriors had cut a 29 point Maverick lead to 16 with six minutes left in the game.

The Warriors continued to push trailing by ten points with 1:45 left in the game 115-105. The Warriors had made an amazing run in the fourth quarter of this game losing. It was just too little too late for Golden State.

Curry finished the game with 20 points and the bench was great with Moses Moody, Jordan Poole and Jonathan Kuminga all shooting in double digits. The Warriors came up just short in this game. They stumbled in the second and third quarters and that proved to be irreparable for the team.

The Mavericks had pushed a Game Five this Thursday at Chase Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM.

#1 If problems haven’t compounded for the Dallas Mavericks who are now on the brink of elimination down 3-0 to the Golden State Warriors after a game 3 loss on Sunday night the Mavericks were fined by the NBA $100,000 for a third bench violation. Dallas players were either standing too long or coming onto or near the court. Fines doubled each time starting at $25,000, $50,000 and now $100,000 after Sunday’s game.

#2 Barbara, knowing how Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is animated, vocal and involved on the sidelines of his team is he the type of owner that will roll heads if the Mavericks were to get swept in this series?

#3 There was no stopping the Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry who scored 31 points and Andrew Wiggins who had 27 points that pretty much froze out the Mavericks in the second half of the game.

#4 For the Mavericks Luka Doncic he had to carry most of the weight scoring a team leading 41 points while teammate Spencer Dinwiddie was a distant second in scoring with 26 points.

#5 It’s either win big or go home for the Mavericks in game 4 on Tuesday night as Dallas has their last chance to defeat Golden State on their home floor. Meanwhile the Warriors have lots of confidence entering what could be the final game of this third round of playoffs.
