San Francisco Giants Wilmer Flores rounds the bases after hitting a three run home run against the Atlanta Braves at Truist Field in Cumberland, Cobb County GA on Tue Jul 22, 2025 (AP News photo)
Tuesday night the Giants came in three games over .500 and it’s the first time that the Giants have the smallest gap over .500 since April 1st. Willie Adames said after Monday night’s game, “I feel like in the first half we were grinders. It feel like lately the energy is not there. That’s not our identity, it feels like we’ve fallen off the bus.”
Adames continued saying, “It’s not us we have to figure a way out of it as soon as possible. I was saying after Monday night’s loss they need to get hot and they need to get hot fast. At first I thought it was a meltdown in the clubhouse but 95.7 The Game’s Sam Lubman said it was Adames way of calling out the team.

Butler’s Blast Fizzles as A’s Fall to The Rangers 6-2
By Mauricio Segura
The Athletics wasted no time setting the tone in Arlington Tuesday night, but the early sparks quickly gave way to a slow burn as the Texas Rangers rode a powerful seventh inning to a 6-2 victory at Globe Life Field.
Lawrence Butler stepped into the box for the A’s and promptly crushed the very first pitch of the game deep to right field. His 14th home run of the season landed with a thud of authority and gave the Green and Gold an early 1-0 lead. It was a tone-setting blast, a moment of optimism. But as the game unfolded, Butler’s solo shot stood as one of the few bright spots in an otherwise frustrating night for the Sactown squad.
What followed in the top half of the first was less explosive. Jacob Wilson and Nick Kurtz both struck out swinging, and Brent Rooker grounded out to short. The A’s offense would struggle to find its rhythm for most of the night, plagued by missed opportunities and a barrage of strikeouts.
Sacramento starter J.T. Ginn held the Rangers scoreless through the first three innings with the help of sharp defense, including two double plays turned behind him. Jacob Wilson’s smooth hands at shortstop and Luis Urías’s steady presence at second were key in squashing Texas rallies before they got started.
But the Rangers began to claw back in the fourth, when Adolis García tied the game with a solo homer to center. It was a classic García swing—short, powerful, and gone in a heartbeat. Suddenly, Butler’s early blast felt distant, and the momentum had quietly shifted.
Still, there was hope. In the fifth, Tyler Soderstrom roped a double to right to lead off the inning, but the middle of the A’s order couldn’t cash in. Three straight strikeouts stranded Soderstrom, and a growing pattern of futility with runners on base emerged.
Then came the sixth. After Ginn handed things off to Sean Newcomb, Marcus Semien launched a go-ahead solo home run to left, making it 2-1 Rangers. The home crowd erupted, and the A’s found themselves trailing for the first time all night.
But the real damage came in the bottom of the seventh, a frame that turned a close game into a lopsided one. With two outs and two on, Sacramento reliever Hogan Harris served up a crusher to Corey Seager, who sent a three-run shot soaring into the Texas night. Just like that, it was 6-1, and the game slipped firmly out of reach.
Sacramento did show some life in the eighth. After an error and a walk, Shea Langeliers delivered a line-drive single to left, scoring Jacob Wilson and giving the A’s a flicker of hope. But a groundout from Soderstrom ended the rally with runners still aboard. It was the type of night where the green lights were few and far between.
Despite the late push, Texas bullpen arms Robert Garcia and Shawn Armstrong shut the door with authority. Armstrong struck out two in the ninth, and when Lawrence Butler, who began the game with a bang, went down swinging for the final out, the A’s were left to wonder what might have been.
In total, Sacramento struck out 14 times and left eight runners on base. They had their chances, especially in the seventh and eighth, but couldn’t deliver the big hit when it mattered most.
Series concludes Wednesday night at Globe Life at 5:05pm PT with the A’s starting RHP JP Sears (7-8 ERA 5.13) for the Rangers LHP Patrick Corbin (6-7 ERA 3.91).

LAS VEGAS–The Las Vegas Aces won their third in a row with a win over the Atlanta Dream at Michelob ULTRA Arena 87-72 on Tuesday night. Taking a look how it all happened, in the first quarter the Atlanta Dream (13-10) took a 27-20 lead but that would turn out to be the only quarter they won in this game.
It was the second quarter that the Las Vegas Aces (12-11) really began to cook winning the quarter by a landslide 25-12 and giving them a 45-39 lead at the half. They needed to take that momentum into the third quarter and keep the pressure on the Dream.
The Aces barely outscored the Dream in the third quarter 22-20 but extended their lead to 67-59. It was the fourth quarter when the Aces drove the win home outscoring Atlanta 20-13. The Dream made things uncomfortable for the Aces in the final quarter when they got within six points 68-62 with 7:48 left in the game.
It was then that the Aces went on a seven point run and they never looked back. They had won the second, third and fourth quarters for an 87-72 win and a 12-11 season record. With this win they moved into sixth place in the standings.
The Las Vegas Aces had solid play in the second half and when it got close in the third quarter they finished it off in the fourth quarter for the win. The starting roster was amazing with A’Ja Wilson scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds, another double double.
Jackie Young finished with 14 points as did bench player Dana Evans. Nalyssa Smith also had double digits with 11 points. This was an impressive win for Las Vegas garnering their third win in a row.
The Aces were close to spotless at the line hitting 19 of 21 a 90% success rate. The Dream had 19 turnovers that the Aces turned into 24 points a real turning point in this game. The Aces had 13 turnovers but those turnovers only cost them five points. The largest lead in the game for Las Vegas was 17 points as they came away with a most impressive win.
The Dream’s Alyisha Gray also finished with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Jordan Canada had double digits with 12 points but they just did not have the fire power to get past the surging Aces especially in the final quarter.
Game notes: The Aces won their third straight game now with wins against the Dallas Wings, Golden State Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream, the Las Vegas Aces improve to 12-11. They took on the tough Atlanta Dream (13-10) are second in the Eastern Conference in the standings while the Aces are fourth place in the Western Conference. The Aces over the past few games have really turned their season around and continued on that path in this game. The win Tuesday night was not only their third win in a row but a move up in the standings.
The Aces will now head out on the road to take on the Indiana Fever in another tough matchup this coming Thursday night. While the Fever are favored in this matchup the way Las Vegas handled the Dream tonight all bets could be off. The Fever’s Caitlin Clark remains on the Injured List, has missed 11 games and the All Star game. There is no timetable for her return.
They certainly have the fire power to win their fourth game in a row. With their win Tuesday night this is the first time this season that the Aces has won three games in a row.
They have a lot of momentum going into this upcoming game in their corner. The game Thursday night can be see on Prime Video with tipoff scheduled for 4:00 PM PT.
Relief in sight as the San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman (26) is congratulated by first baseman Rafael Devers (right) after beating the Atlanta Braves and snapping their six game losing streak at Truist Field in Cumberland Cobb County GA on Tue Jul 22, 2025 (AP news photo)
By Barbara Mason
After losing to the Atlanta Braves day, the San Francisco Giants (53-49 ) tied up the series beating Atlanta (44-56) in a shut-out 9-0. After playing what was probably their worst showing this season the Giants turned it all around.
Gone was the brain fog in the outfield, gone were the errors and the effort on the mound was stellar. San Francisco starter Landen Roupp went five innings allowing four hits, no runs, one walk and six strikeouts getting this shut-out well underway.
San Francisco broke this game wide open in the second inning taking a 4-0 lead and never looked back. Matt Chapman tripled driving Willy Adames home for the early 1-0 lead. They went on to score three more runs in the inning.
Wilmer Flores sacrificed Chapman home followed by a Casey Schmitt solo home run. The Giants scored one more run in the inning when Heliot Ramos sacrificed Patrick Bailey home and San Francisco had jumped to a 4-0 lead.
The Giants held the 4-0 lead going into the fifth inning when they scored another run. Heliot Adames singled Rafael Devers home taking a 5-0 lead. Mid-way through the game San Francisco had taken total command and in fact looked unbeatable.
Hanging onto the 5-0 lead going into the seventh inning they tacked four more runs on leaving the Braves in the dust. Devers singled Ramos home. Flores had another hit, a three run home run with Devers and Adames on base extending their lead to 9-0.
The Giants totally dominated from the start of the game to the finish. Outfield play was spotless. Work on the mound was lights out and the Giants had ten hits in this game. Ten hits with nine runs scored; San Francisco had pulled out all the stops and after losing six games in a row the streak was broken.
Devers had an outstanding game going error free in his first career start at first base and offensively he was pretty darn good with two hits and two runs. Chapman and Patrick Bailey each had two hits, Chapman with one RBI and Bailey with two.
Starting pitcher Roupp was hot throwing the shut-out. San Francisco has now won five of his last six outings. His ERA has now improved to 3.11.
San Francisco relief pitching gave up no runs and collectively they struck out eight batters. Only two Atlanta at bats walked in the game. The Braves Matt Olson had three hits in the game and the Giants came away with eight hits but could not put together a single run in the contest.
Wednesday the two teams will meet in the rubber game with first pitch scheduled for 9:15 AM. San Francisco will start Justin Verlander who continues his search for his first season win. He is 0-8 and his ERA is 4.99.
The Braves plan on sending Spencer Strider to the mound with a 4-7 win/loss record and a 3.59 ERA. The Giants will be looking for a second win in a row, hopefully just the start of stringing multiple wins and working their way up in the standings.
Boston Red Sox catcher Carlos Narvaez glove catches Philadelphia Phillies Edmundo Sosa’s bat for catcher’s interference on a checked swing that allowed ghost runner Brandon Marsh to scored from third base for a walk off win at Citizens Bank Ballpark in Philadelphia on Mon Jul 21, 2025 (AP News photo)

#1 Philadelphia Phillies ghost runner Brandon Marsh scored the winning run on catcher’s interference in the bottom of the tenth inning with the bases loaded in a Phillies walk off win over the Boston Red Sox. In the tenth the Phils Edmundo Sosa checked his swing on Red Sox pitch from Jordan Hicks that was a ball but Sosa’s bat caught Sox catcher Carlos Narvaez. The Phillies asked for a review which showed the interference that allowed Marsh to score from third.
#2 The Arizona Diamondbacks Eugenio Suarez belted his fifth home run in his last three games, hitting a solo shot against the Houston Astros on Monday night. Suarez 34 years old hit his 35th home run and taking on the opposition when he gets the opportunity.
#3 Los Angeles Dodgers Freddie Freeman took an 88 MHP sinker off his left wrist Sunday. Freeman’s X-rays came back negative. The swelling on the wrist subsided. On Monday Freeman was back in the lineup and was back in the batting cage taking batting practice.
#4 Sacramento A’s centerfielder Denzel Clarke will be placed on the injured list after suffering from an adductor strain. A’s manager Mark Kotsay said that a roster move will be made on Tuesday. Kotsay said the A’s weren’t able to get a replacement to Texas in time for the game on Monday night. Clarke left the game on Sunday night with hip discomfort. Clarke hit .230 through 47 games.
#5 The A’s are shopping pitcher Luis Severino, Jefferey Springs, and JP Sears. Springs will be owed $10.5 million in 2026 and has a $15 million option for 2027. Severino has expressed that he was not happy pitching at Sutter Health Field in Sacramento because the dirt on the mound was too hard and the dugout didn’t go the clubhouse but you had to go through the outfield to get to the clubhouse. Sears does give up the long ball but clubs could use him as he is durable.

San Francisco Giants Patrick Bailey sprints around third heading home for a three run inside the park homer in the bottom of the ninth inning against the Philadelphia Phillies at Oracle Park in San Francisco on Tue Jul 8, 2025. The Giants since then are on a six game losing streak (AP News photo)
The San Francisco Giants got off to an 8-1 start and this was going to be a 95 to 100 win team. Sam Lubman host of the Orange and Black weekend wrap Saturdays 9AM to noon on 95.7FM the Game in San Francisco. Sam said their a 85-95 win team.
Sam was so right throughout some of the Giants toughest stretches this year I got a little concerned but I always believe they would come back. That the Giants would get their act together get hot and go on a run at some point. For the most part I still believe that.
One thing I’ll say about the 2025 Giants they’re really good at toying with your emotions. I have to honest here on Monday was rock bottom. The Giants have now lost six in a row and seven in a row since Patrick Bailey’s magical walk off inside the park home run against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Sacramento A’s podcast Michael Roberson:
#1 Jacob Lopez got the nod for Sacramento and looked sharp early, working around a walk and fanning two in the opening frame. But despite his best efforts, the Green and Gold bats were just as cold as the air-conditioned stadium they played in dropping the contest to the Texas Rangers 7-2.
#2 Despite a solo shot from rookie phenom Nick Kurtz and a few glimmers of offensive life, the A’s couldn’t overcome a middle-innings surge by the Texas Rangers, falling 7-2 at Globe Life Field in Arlington.
#3 Through the first three innings, the Athletics managed just one baserunner, a walk by Kurtz, and didn’t register a hit until his double in the fourth.
#4 Despite some bullpen stability from the Rangers Elvis Alvarado and Sean Newcomb, who each pitched scoreless innings, Texas kept applying pressure. A sac bunt and a pair of timely singles in the seventh and eighth innings added two more runs for the Rangers, stretching their lead to 7-2 and putting the game out of reach.
#5 For Tuesday the A’s will start RHP JT Ginn (1-2 ERA 4.91) for the Rangers RHP Jacob deGrom (9-2 ERA 2.32) first pitch 5:05pm PT

Insomniac Lunatic Fringe Postgame with Stephen Ruderman 7-19-2025 (this show was pre recorded)
Stephen last Saturday talks about the San Francisco Giants who have lost four straight games and lost on Saturday. The Giants didn’t get shutout but lost with the Blue Jays scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning with Giants pitcher Logan Webb getting the call. Eric Lauer made the start for the Blue Jays to get 13 up and 13 down.
The Giants were fouling off a lot of pitches. They were working the count but they just couldn’t get on base. Webb on the other hand was having to work in and out of trouble with runners at first and second with nobody in the bottom of the first with the Blue Jays Vladimir Guerrero first pitched turned out to be a chopper to Willy Adames that turned out to be a 6-3 double play.
The Jays had a big inning with four runs scored in the bottom of the sixth inning and added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth for the final touches in their 6-3 win. The Jays would later wind up sweeping the Giants in the three game series on Sunday.

Rangers Spoil Kurtz’s Blast as Green and Gold Falter in Arlington
By Mauricio Segura
It was a night that began with promise and power, but for the Sacramento Athletics, it ended with another frustrating loss deep in the heart of Texas, clap! Clap! Clap! Not! Despite a solo shot from rookie phenom Nick Kurtz and a few glimmers of offensive life, the A’s couldn’t overcome a middle-innings surge by the Texas Rangers, falling 7-2 at Globe Life Field in Arlington.
Jacob Lopez got the nod for Sacramento and looked sharp early, working around a walk and fanning two in the opening frame. But despite his best efforts, the Green and Gold bats were just as cold as the air-conditioned stadium they played in. Through the first three innings, the Athletics managed just one baserunner, a walk by Kurtz, and didn’t register a hit until his double in the fourth.
That double nearly turned the tide. Following a walk by Shea Langeliers and a two-out single from Tyler Soderstrom, Kurtz came around to score and evened things up at 1-1. It was a brief jolt of energy in what had been a sleepy offensive night. The Rangers had taken an early lead in the bottom of the third thanks to a solo homer from Josh Jung.
But that fourth inning RBI was the high-water mark for the A’s. The bottom of the fifth brought a collapse that Sacramento simply couldn’t recover from. After surrendering a leadoff single to Josh Smith, Lopez gave way to Elvis Alvarado, and the wheels came off. A walk, a double, and then a three-run homer from Michael Helman blew the game open and gave Texas a 5-1 lead.
Kurtz wasn’t finished. The 22-year-old continued to make his case for AL Rookie of the Year, launching his 19th home run of the season to lead off the sixth. No one else in the Sacramento lineup has hit more long balls, and Kurtz is now the MLB rookie leader in both homers and RBIs. With the swing of the bat, he trimmed the lead to 5-2 and injected a spark of hope.
But that hope, like the game, fizzled fast.
Despite some bullpen stability from Alvarado and Sean Newcomb, who each pitched scoreless innings, Texas kept applying pressure. A sac bunt and a pair of timely singles in the seventh and eighth innings added two more runs for the Rangers, stretching their lead to 7-2 and putting the game out of reach.
The Athletics threatened again in the top of the seventh when Gio Urshela led off with a double and Urías followed with a walk. But a failed bunt attempt from Lawrence Butler, a flyout from Jacob Wilson, and a groundout from Kurtz stranded both runners and killed the rally. The A’s never threatened again.
The A’s have now dropped three of their last four games and remain in last place in the AL West. Tuesday’s probable starter still to be announced. They’ll face off against Jacob deGrom, who enters with a 9-2 record and a sparkling 2.32 ERA.
For Tuesday the A’s will start RHP JT Ginn (1-2 ERA 4.91) for the Rangers RHP Jacob deGrom (9-2 ERA 2.32) first pitch 5:05pm PT

The Atlanta Braves Drake Baldwin (30) slugs a first inning two RBI single against the San Francisco Giants at Truist Field in Cumberland Cobb County GA on Mon Jul 21, 2025 (AP News photo)
By Barbara Mason
Horrible pitching from Hayden Birdsong lasting only one inning started the downward slide for the San Francisco Giants (52-48) losing to the Atlanta Braves (43-55) 9-5 in game one of their three game series.
Top it off with some very sloppy defense and the Giants outfield was awful. Willy Adames is in fifth place with the most errors in the majors and San Francisco has a lot to clean up going forward.
Mistakes from Jung Hoo Lee which we don’t expect to see was just another factor. Put it all together and you have a string of losses.
Game recap: The Giants had a productive start in the top of the first inning scoring a run taking an early 1-0 lead, Matt Chapman hit an infield single and Heliot Ramos was able to cross home plate. The San Francisco lead was short-lived in the bottom of the first inning. The Braves scored five runs taking a 5-1 lead. A huge hit for Atlanta came off the bat of Drake Baldwin who doubled driving in three runners, Ronald Acuna Jr., Jurickson Profar, Matt Olsen and just like that the score was 3-0. The Braves would score two more runs off a Nick Allen single. Ozzie Albies and Drake Baldwin both scored on the Allen hit and Atlanta had a 5-1 lead after the opening inning.
It was a disastrous start for Birdsong in the first inning. He walked the first three at bats, gave up a double followed by another walk and then hit Sean Murphy. The Braves had scored three runs off one hit.
Birdsong was relieved by Matt Gage who struck out a couple of Braves but gave up the Nick Allen single for two more runs. This was not an outing that Birdsong will want to remember any time soon and this was not the way San Francisco wanted to start this game but it was still very early with a lot of ball still to be played.
The Giants got something cooking in the second and third innings but was only able to score in the second inning. Patrick Bailey sacrificed and Wilmer Flores scored. San Francisco trailed by three runs 5-2 but it was still manageable.
In the bottom of the fourth inning the Braves had another scoring frenzy taking an 8-2 lead. Drake Baldwin who was having a great game singled Matt Olsen and Ronald Ocuna Jr home. Another run would score off an Ozzie Albies single and the Braves were really humming.
The Giants would score one run in the top of the fifth inning but more than half-way through the game they would need more while putting the skids on the offensive effort from Atlanta which had been very productive.
Willy Adames doubled Rafael Devers home for the single run. The Giants Tristin Beck took over on the mound coming away with the Giants first three and out inning in the game.
The Braves scored again in the bottom of the sixth inning when both Ronald Acuna Jr and Drake Baldwin hit doubles. The Baldwin double drove in Acuna Jr. taking a 9-3 lead.
Willy Adames hit his 15th home run of the season in the seventh inning, a solo shot and the score was 9-4 in favor of Atlanta. San Francisco already had ten hits through seven innings but it was the first inning that put them behind the eight ball. The Giants had some work to do with two innings left in the game.
The score was 9-4 going into the ninth inning. San Francisco got a run in the ninth but it was too little too late. They have now lost six games in a row. They had 12 hits in the game but ugly defense and trouble on the mound was the deciding factor in the 9-5 loss. Mental errors cost San Francisco dearly.
Game notes: After losing a series to the red-hot Toronto Blue Jays over the weekend, the San Francisco Giants (52-48) dropped the first game of the three game series on Monday night in steamy Atlanta (43-55). At first pitch the temperature was an uncomfortable 86 degrees and dry but rain is called for Tuesday, in fact eight days of rain in a row. Hopefully they will be able to work in games two and three without delays.
Birdsong didn’t pitch long relieved without retiring one batter in the first inning allowing one hit and five earned runs and walking four. For the Braves starter Bryce Elder five innings pitched, eight hits, three earned runs, and one strike out.
Tuesday the Giants will try to break the six game losing streak and come away with a win. It can’t get much worse than what was seen Monday. Landen Roupp will take the mound for the Giants with a 6-6 win/loss record and a 3.27 ERA. The Braves plan on starting Davis Daniel (0-0 ERA 1.80). First pitch for this game is scheduled for 4:15 PM PT.
