Bulls rally comes up short

DALY CITY-The San Francisco Bulls (9-14-2-1) hosted the Colorado Eagles on Friday night at the Legendary Cow Palace. Colorado held off the Bulls as they took game one of the three game weekend series 6-3. The first 47:31 seconds of the game were dominated by the Eagles as they scored five unanswered goals. Tyler Beskorowany started in the net for the Bulls, but was removed from the game after giving up four consecutive goals.

The Bulls did not get their first goal until 17:29 in the second period. Jordan Morrison put the puck in the net on the glove side past Adam Brown. Tyler Gron and Brett Findlay earned the assists on the play.  Dale Mitchell scored 18 seconds later to make it a 5-2 deficit.

Gron scored his 12th goal of the season in the third period to put the Bulls to within two goals, but Colorado tacked on a late goal to go back up by three.

The final score tallied 6-3 in favor of the Colorado Eagles. San Francisco will host Colorado on Saturday and Sunday as well in this three game series.

The Bulls are now 0-4 against the Eagles this season. After the game head coach Pat Curcio commented about what the Bulls need to do to win the next two games in this series.

“We just need to mix up the lineup. We need to play a full three quarters,” said Curcio.

The puck will drop at 7:30 for game two on Saturday night. 

San Francisco and Seattle rivalry continues

SAN FRANCISCO- The San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks have developed a huge rivalry over the years, but it has never been as fierce as it is right now. These two power house teams met for the first time on September 26, 1976 that resulted in a 37-21 victory for San Francisco in Seattle.

Before the 49ers 19-17 victory on Sunday at Candlestick Park, Seattle lead the series record 15-14. With the triumph on Sunday San Francisco evened the series at 15-15 through their first 30 meetings. As expected, each team has a better overall record against their rival at their home field. San Francisco improves to 8-6 at The Stick while Seattle has a 9-7 record at the very loud CenturyLink Field.

The 49ers victory improved their second best home divisional record to 14-0-1, only behind the 14-0 home divisional record of the New England Patriots. San Francisco has not lost to Seattle at home in over five years. Both teams acknowledge the rivalry that is forming between these two NFC West foes, and they know that it will not be leaving anytime soon.

“I wouldn’t say I enjoy it, but you have to be tough. This game is only for the tough.” Jim Harbaugh said of the rivalry with the Seahawks.

Linebacker NaVarro Bowman stated, “I love it, I love it. I love the rivalry. Both teams are very physical and that’s what football is all about.”

Seahawks tight end Zach Miller said when asked about the rivalry, “Anytime it seems like when we play it is always a tough hard-nosed football game, real physical.”

The win for the 49ers over the Seahawks could not have came at a better time. San Francisco played Seattle with Michael Crabtree in the lineup for the first time this season, and it made a difference in the passing game. Crabtree’s presence paved the way for Aquan Boldin who had six receptions for 93 yards. Crabtree also added four catches for 40 yards on the day. Boldin needed only 13 receiving yards on the day to become just the 30th player in NFL history to record 11,000 career receiving yards.

Even with the 49ers playoff type win over the Seahawks, it is still almost certain that the road to the Superbowl will have to go through Seattle. This victory will definitely be a boost of confidence for San Francisco as there will be a chance that these two teams will meet again at some point in the playoffs.

Sharks fall to Hurricanes 5-3

RALEIGH, N.C-The San Jose Sharks (19-5-5)  fell to the Carolina Hurricanes (13-12-5) 5-3 on Friday as they hosted the San Jose Sharks. The victory for Carolina gave them the all-time series lead, 15-14, against the Sharks. The Hurricanes rallied to score four goals in the final period to earn the victory.

The Sharks lead 2-0 for the first half of the game. Tommy Wingels and Marc-Edouard Vlasic put San Jose on the board to give them the early advantage. Jason Demers earned the assist on the first goal and Joe Thornton and Tomas Hertl earned the assists on the Vlasic snap shot goal.

Jay Harrison scored his second goal of the season at 11:36 in the second period to cut the lead in half to make it 2-1. Zach Boychuk and Riley Nash earned the assists on the play. The score remained 2-1 Sharks until the start of the third period.

The final frame was dominated by Carolina as they exploded for four goals. Nash scored his second goal of the game and third on the year to tie the game at 2-2. Jordan Staal gave the Hurricanes the 3-2 advantage and first lead of the game at 6:42. Nathan Gerbe and Elias Lindholm were credited with the assists.

Justin Braun tied the game for the Sharks with a slapshot at 9:35 with assists from Patrick Marleau and Joe Pavelski. This was the last goal that San Jose scored in the contest. Elias Lindholm scored what proved to be the game winning goal at 14:00. Eric Staal tacked on an an insurance goal late in period to cap off the four goal period.

San Jose will be back on the ice Tuesday December 10 as they will be hosting the New York Islanders. The puck will drop at 7:30 PM.

Sharks hold off Ducks late

SAN JOSE-The San Jose Sharks (18-3-5) hosted the Anaheim Ducks (18-8-3) on Saturday night at the SAP Center. San Jose defeated Anaheim 4-3 in front of a sellout crowd in San Jose. The physical game between these two rivals was decided via shootout. The victory completed a perfect 5-0 homestand for the Sharks.

Anaheim scored first when Corey Perry scored his 15th goal of the season at 5:56 in the opening period to give the visiting Ducks an early 1-0 lead. Ryan Getzlaf and Dustin Penner earned the assists on the play.

Logan Couture scored his ninth goal of the season with assists from Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Patrick Marleau. Couture tip the puck inside the net off of a deflection. The score tied the game at one goal a piece and gave the Sharks the momentum. It was San Jose’s first of three goals in the second period.

Marleau scored the second goal of the period at 10:13 in the period to gave San Jose the 2-1 advantage. The wrist shot goal came on a two on one break away with Joe Thornton. The two on one break away came out of nowhere as the Sharks were shorthanded after a penalty that put the Ducks on the power play. Jonas Hillar never had a chance as the duo deeked him until he dropped to the floor as the puck hit the net.

Marty Havlat scored his second of the year with less than a minute remaining in the period to extend the lead to 3-1 Sharks. Havlat’s backhand shot was assisted by Mike Brown and Scott Hannan.

The third period was dominated by Anaheim as they scored two goals to tie up the game. Alex Grant and Ben Lovejoy scored there first goals of the season to send the Ducks into Overtime.

After a scoreless Overtime period the game was forced into a shootout. San Jose won the shootout 1-0 as Joe Pavelski put the puck on the net in the second round.

San Jose will be back on the ice on Tuesday as they will be Toronto as they will be hosted by the Toronto Maple Leafs. The puck will drop at 4 PM Pacific Time.

Sharks hold off Devils for 2-1 victory

SAN JOSE- The San Jose Sharks (15-3-5) hosted the New Jersey Devils (9-9-5) on Saturday night at the SAP Center. The Sharks defeated the Devils 2-1, preventing New Jersey from getting into any type of offensive rhythm. Antii Niemi recorded 18 saves on the night.

San Jose put their two goals on the scoreboard early in the first period. The first goal was scored by Scott Hannan at 4:25. The Hannan goal was assisted by Joe Thornton Brent Burns. Tyler Kennedy scored what proved to be the game winning goal with a slapshot at 14:47. Marty Havlat and Jason Demers earned the assists on the score. 

The Sharks early offense was enough to hold of a late rally by New Jersey late in the third period. As the second period went scoreless in a defensive battle, the score remained at 2-0 Sharks going into the the final period.

Patrik Elias cut the score in half with a goal at the 8:10 mark in the period. Andy Greene and Eric Gelinas earned the assists on the play. Elias executed a nice wrist shot. The score came on a power play that was set up because of a holding penalty called on Demers.

San Jose will be back on the ice on Wednesday when they host the Los Angeles Kings at the SAP Center. The puck will drop at 7:30.

Bulls let one Slip against Steelheads

DAILY CITY-The San Francisco Bulls (4-5-2-0) hosted the Idaho Steelheads (5-4-1-1) on Friday night at the Cow Palace. The Bulls  were defeated 4-3 in a shootout. Idaho tied the game with at three goals apiece with less than 40 seconds remaining in regulation before winning the contest via the shootout.

The Bulls took the early 1-0 advantage with a goal from Rob Linsmayer. the score was assisted by Kyle Bigos and Brett Findlay. The Steelheads tied up the contest late in the first period after Justin Mercier scored a goal at the 19:01 mark. It was his fourth goal of the season and it went unassisted.

The second period seen both the Steelheads and the Bulls add another goal apiece. Idaho took the 2-1 advantage at 5:58 with an unassisted goal by Mitch Wahl. San Francisco tied up the contest at 2-2 after Dean Ouellet put the puck in the net past Idaho goaltender Josh Robinson. Damon Kipp earned the assist on the play.

The third period was similar to the first two periods in the game. Bigos gave the Bulls their first lead since early in the first quarter with a goal early in the frame. Mark Lee and Dylan King assisted on the the go a head goal. San Francisco’s lead lasted throughout the third period until less than 40 seconds left in regulation.

With the overtime period going scoreless, the game was summed to a shootout. Anthony Nigro knocked in the game winning goal to send the Bulls home with a tough loss.

Head Coach and Bulls’ Owner Pat Curcio said after the game that “We need to learn how to finish.”

If the Bulls are going to get back into the playoffs this year, that’s exactly what they will need to learn how to do throughout this season that is still young.

The Bull’s will be back on the ice Saturday Night against the same Idaho Steelheads. The puck will drop at the Cow Palace at 7:30 PM.

Bulls get shutout by Reign

ONTARIO, CALIFORNIA-The San Francisco Bulls (2-5-1-0) were shutout 2-0 to the Ontario Reign (4-0-1-2) on Wednesday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena. The Reign played stellar defense and received outstanding play from goaltender Michael Hutchinson, who blocked every shot that went his way.

The Reign put their first goal on the board with just 3:36 remaining in the opening period. The game was a defensive show as the second period went scoreless and headed into the third and final period at 1-0 Ontario.

At the end of the second period, the Bulls were outshot 16-13 by the Reign.

Dan DaSilva scored the final; goal of the game with just 19 seconds remaining on an empty netter. The Bulls had the opportunity to score with a couple of power plays, but failed to find the net.

Bulls fall 4-1 in Colorado

LOVELAND, COLORADO-The San Francisco Bull (2-2-1-0) were defeated by the Colorado Eagles (3-2-0-0) on Wednesday night at the Budweiser Events Center.

Colorado came out on fire in the period. The Eagles got on the bored first with a goal by Luke Fulghum. the score came at 2:10 in the first period and put the Bulls in an early hole. The score remained 1-0 Colorado heading into the first intermission.

San Francisco tied that game at one goal apiece in the second period. Dean Ouellet and Mark Lee earned the assists on a goal made by Dale Mitchell at the 4:35 mark in the period. The score remained tied until less than two minutes left in the period. At 1:55 Colorado regained the lead with another goal from Fulghum, it was his second of the game. The Eagles went into the second intermission and third and final period with a 2-1 advantage.

The Eagles scored two more goals in the final period to end the game with a 4-1 victory. The goals were scored by Kevin Ulanski and Kyle Ostrow.

The Bulls will be back on the ice on Friday against Colorado once again. The puck will drop at 6:05 pm.

San Francisco Bulls beat the Grizzlies in a shootout

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH- The San Francisco Bulls (2-1-1-0) defeated the Utah Grizzlies (1-1-2-0) 3-2 on Friday night at the Maverik Center. The victory came through the lone shootout goal that was made Ryan McDonough.

Utah scored first in the contest after David Vallorani scored on a power-play goal with less than six minutes remaining in the opening period. The Grizzlies led 1-0 going into the first intermission.

The second period was a crazy one as the offense picked up. The Bulls tied up the game with a goal from Mark Lee at 7:46. The score made the score 1-1. Josh Kidd and Kyle Bigos earned the assist on the Lee goal.

Utah regained the lead after another power-play goal was score. This one was made by Kris Hog with less than four minutes remaining in the period. Jordan Morrison scored the equalizer and made it 2-2 scoring his goal in the wining seconds of the middle period. Damon Kip and Dale Mitchell earned the assists on the play.

The third and final period, as well as the overtime went scoreless and the game was sentenced to a shootout in Utah. The goal was scored in the third round by McDonough.

Bulls win Season opener 2-1

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA-The San Francisco Bulls defeated the Alaska Aces 2-1 in their season opener in the franchises second year of existence on Friday night at Sullivan Arena. Brett Parnham knocked in the game winner in a spectacular third and final period.

Second year Bull and Alternate captain Jordan Morrison scored the first goal of the game for both teams as he scored off of a Scott Langdon shot that was deflected. The goal by Morrison was scored at the 2:22 mark in the opening period to make it 1-0 Bulls.

Tim Coffman tied the score at 1-1 with a goal past Bulls’ goaltender Tyler Beskorowany in the second period. That was the only missed goal that the Bulls new goalie missed on the night as he stopped 44 out of 45 shots on the evening.

The San Francisco Bulls will be back on the ice tomorrow as they will take on the Alaska Aces once again at 8:15 pm PT.
