San Francisco Giants podcast with Michael Duca: Giants hope for that last chance to run the table

by Michael Duca

SAN FRANCISCO–It’s interesting that the Giants have been able to hang on for 25 weeks and at least one day of a 26 week season competing against a team (the Dodgers) whose spent over $400 million on this year’s payroll on players to play for them and players not to play for them.

The Dodgers have players who have played for the Florida Marlins and players who have played for the everywhere else but they haven’t dominate to Giants to knock the Giants out. The Mets, Cardinals, Blue Jays, have won their division but the Dodgers have not been able to finish and they face the Giants starting Monday night.

If the Giants win Monday night they have a legitimate chance at having a shot at running the table and if they don’t win the first or second or third game with the Dodgers at AT&T Park their done. The Giants can’t worry about the next day they can’t worry about a win streak, they just have to worry about the game they play.

Listen to Michael Duca on the podcast below as he also covers which Giants pitcher will be returning to San Francisco for 2015 out of the following Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, Javier Lopez, Santiago Casilla, Jeremy Affeldt, Ryan Vogelsong and more.

That’s Amaury’s News and Commentary: A’s trying to play spoiler as Angels try to get last spot in wild card

by Amaury Pi Gonzalez

photo credit google images of A’s pitcher Felix Doubront

ANAHEIM–The Los Angeles Angels are preparing to meet the Oakland A’s Monday night to open a three game series, the Angels are just a half a game out of the wild card spot to catch the second spot now occupied by the Houston Astros. More interestingly the Halos are only three games out of first place.

The Angels are going to play the Rangers who are in first place have four more games left and this season will be over by next Sunday night. The Angels might have won the division by that time and make it into post season. It’s not going to be easy but the Halos have a very good chance at making the wild card.

The A’s have nothing to lose, their playing for pride, their playing for honor. They’ve been eliminated for a long time they don’t want to lose 100 games and they won’t lose 100 games as a matter of fact. On Monday the A’s will be going with Felix Doubront as the Angels will start lefty Hector Santiago. This could turn out to be a great match.

Oakland A’s podcast with Charlie O: It doesn’t happen often when Giants and A’s do the right thing

by Charlie O Mallonee

OAKLAND–I don’t find it too often when I get to tip my cap to the Giants and the A’s to have the foresight to give fans what they want and that was one last opportunity to see Giants pitcher Tim Hudson start and to see Oakland A’s pitcher Barry Zito start and obviously with the way things turned out Huddy didn’t even get in two full innings and Zito got in two full innings on Saturday.

Their careers are done they know that but from a heartfelt “were just baseball fans and we love these guys” what great moments that was to see these guys on the mound starting against each other. Again the Giants and the A’s what a fantastic way to send these guys out into their retirement years.

The fans thanked both clubs for doing that last Saturday as a fan as a reporter it was just a great thing to see and baseball teams don’t always do things right but let me tell you putting Zito and Hudson out there to match up. We know both those teams aren’t going anywhere and their not going into the playoffs but they gave the fans what they wanted last Saturday.

NCAA Podcast with Morris Phillips: Cal and UCLA stay perfect and the Cardinal take care of Oregon State

by Morris Phillips

The Cal Bears (4-0) much like they experienced last week with Texas a close game and in Washington they held onto an important lead and the Bears who were leading the Huskies 27-10 at one point and won it 30-24. The Bears have really overcome a lot of adversity in terms of their injuries. Obviously the atmosphere in Seattle is incredible at Husky Stadium.

On Friday night at Corvallis the Stanford Cardinal ran up the score and defeated the Oregon State Beavers 42-24 The Cardinal improve their record to 3-1. They were ranked #21 on Saturday and they are slowly but gradually moving back to the top in the Pac 12. The Cardinal running back Christian McCaffery ran for over 200 yards.

On Saturday the UCLA Bruins showed Arizona how to do it beating the Wildcats 56-30 as the Bruins are favored to be the best in Pac 12 play. Bruins quarterback Josh Rosen had a hot hand and threw 19-28 for 284 yards and two touchdowns. The Bruins are 4-0 and will be at ASU to face the Sun Devils on Saturday in their bid to improve to 5-0.

NHL Podcast with Mary Lisa Walsh: Patrick Kane will he be cleared?; B’s Charo listed day to day; Sharks Torres makes comeback

by Mary Lisa Walsh

photo credit ESPN W of Erie County DA Frank Sedita

SAN JOSE–In tonight’s podcast Mary Lisa talks about Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane’s accuser’s mother’s attorney who went crying wolf to the media when he claimed he had the paper bag of the rape kit. The accuser’s attorney stepped down after it turned out the paper bag did not come from the crime lab. Clearly there was something going on there and it was regrettable. Frank Sedita from the Erie County DA’s office said that no evidence was tampered with by the accuser’s mother that the evidence never moved from the crime lab.

The Boston Bruins Zdeno Chara suffered an upper body injury and is listed day to day. Chara was hit at 1:57 into the first period in a pre season game with the New York Rangers by Ryan Bourque. Bourque put a hit on Chara that sent him into the boards in front of the Bruins bench that forced him to leave the game with the upper body injury.

The San Jose Sharks Raffi Torres was back on the CSN broadcast in one of the pre season games against Vancouver. Torres said he didn’t feel as fast or as strong as he used to be but that’s kind of your job to be fast and strong. Torres looks pretty good out there he delivered a hit in Friday night’s pre season game at SAP against the Arizona Coyotes. It would be good if Torres focused more on his skill and his speed.

NFL Podcast with Tony Renteria: McCown get set to face former team Raiders

by Tony Renteria & Jerry Feitelberg

OAKLAND–The Raiders are in Cleveland and no they won’t be playing Johnny Football on Sunday they’ll face their old teammate quarterback Josh McCown who will be starting for the Cleveland Browns. Johnny Manziel has been put back to the bench after filling in for McCown during week one due to a concussion. It will be interesting to see how the Raiders come into this game coming off that big thrill of a win last Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.

A little bit more on the defensive side of the ball a little bit more pressure and it would be nice if the Raiders would throw in a blitz every now and then as the Raiders linebacker Aldon Smith and Khalil Mack combo hasn’t been able to give a lot of pressure to the quarterback.

Head coaches are always going to minimize what history is going to be there always going to be aware of what players are on the front seat and their going to put the coaches on the front seat. The secondary is etched right now and limping through the game the only way to help them out is to put more pressure on the quarterback. and the only way to put more pressure on the quarterback is to put more guys up on the line with more blitzing.

McCown is cleared from his concussion and he is not suffering at all from his concussion and McCown is going to drop back and he’s going to try and get back deep with the safety help that’s been happening in the last couple of weeks. The first game did not have Carr in the second half and the Raiders did score two touchdowns.

It might be like pre season hangover you have gone from playing pre season football for two and half quarters against the Cardinals and Carr sat out that last pre season game. for Carr and its like coming from playing pre season football and then coming in to throw in the regular season. Carr was not rusty maybe just not totally up to speed with the timing with the tight ends it just seemed like he lost his timing missing the receivers.

Oakland A’s podcast with Charlie O: Zito-Hudson match will pack the house this Saturday plus Mark Mulder will be attending

by Charlie O Mallanee

photo of Barry Zito and Tim Hudson by CBS.com

OAKLAND–It will be a moment that everybody is anticipating on the meeting between two old teammates one who pitches for the San Francisco Giants (Tim Hudson) and the other Oakland A’s starter (Barry Zito). On Sunday there is a scheduled pre game ceremony at the Oakland Coliseum that is going to be an tribute to Zito, Hudson and former Athletic Mark Mulder. Hudson and Zito will be facing each other on Saturday.

A’s assistant general manager Grady Fuson was an A’s scout director when Hudson, Mulder, and Zito were selected and brought up through the minor league system will be doing the presentation. All of the Big Three will be throwing out the first ball before Sunday’s game at the Coliseum. “The fans deserve something like that, some closure from those early years and all that fun we had you know?” Zito said on Tuesday before the game with Texas.

The reality is this is it for Barry and the reality is this is probably it for Hudson and Mulder has already hung it up his last team being the St. Louis Cardinals. It’s one of those situations where at this point it’s more tribute than probably less important then recognizing what they’ve done.

Let’s face reality even though the Giants are technically still into it they’re not going anywhere, the A’s have been eliminated they have the terrible E besides their team now because they’ve been eliminated from playoff contention. It’s meaningful and a match up between Hudson and Zito it doesn’t get that much better than that.

The A’s had to do something to make it worth the fans time to come out and for long time A’s fans and for Giants fans who appreciated what Hudson and Zito before him had done who was a Giant for seven years it would be a fitting way to pay tribute and send those guys off into retirement with a good feeling about their fans.

Final Charlie O notes: Dick Callahan the A’s PA Announcer gets the lucky draw of the schedule as this final meeting between the two clubs in September will be at the Coliseum. This was not expected to turn out to be a tribute to the Big Three when the schedule first came out but what a fine way to finish up at the Coliseum. Renal Brookes Moon the Giants PA Announcer would have like to have called the Big Three series had it been at AT&T Park but with the Giants coming to Oakland were sure she and Callahan will share PA notes.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with David Zizmor: How much damage control for the Niners after You Tube parking lot melee

by David Zizmor

SANTA CLARA–Santa Clara Councilwoman Lisa Gillmor is leading the charge with co-City Council members Teresa O’Neill and Debi Davis in preparation of a vote to halt alcohol sales after half time at Levis Stadium in light of a You Tube video that showed at least six 49ers fans kicking and hitting a Minnesota Viking fan after the September 14th home opener on Monday Night Football.

Gillmor will most likely get the bill passed and if necessary put an initiative in front of the voters. It most likely won’t go that far because the city council will more than likely pass the measure themselves with no problem. The 49ers themselves this week said they won’t tolerate this kind of behavior anymore. Is the 49ers reputation damaged further by the video below?

This is more on the fans than it’s on the team and I can see if the team was negligent if they didn’t have any security and not providing security which they did. There was one security officer there trying to stop the fight with the six 49ers fans taking turns on a Minnesota fan after the game.

Cal Bears Podcast with Morris Phillips: Bears cut it close with Texas and can expect the Washington game to give them a real workout this week

by Morris Phillips

BERKELEY–Saturday’s game in Texas was an incredibly close ball game in the 45-44 win for Cal over the Texas Longhorns. It was tied at the half and then the game takes off in the third quarter and then they have to hold on in the fourth. The Bears defense allowed 650 yards last week in total offense to Texas.

Texas quarterback Jerrod Heard was sensational he was incredibly fast and took off running and made plays for his team and then you have the parallels in what Cal did last year losing in Arizona in their attempts to go 3-0 in that third game and allowing 36 points in the fourth quarter that night and then the hail Mary that was not to be and to lose. The Bears put themselves in that situation even though their a deeper team than last year.

Oakland Raiders podcast with Jeremy Kahn: Carr forming that old Raider magic as team gets set for Johnny Football and Browns

by Jeremy Kahn

photo credit google images Neiko Thorpe

OAKLAND–There was no doubt that the Raiders who saw the Baltimore Ravens close in on their ten point lead last Sunday that they would keep it going. The Raiders played with so much pizazz and confidence and they came back and got that ten point 30-20 lead in the fourth quarter.

Baltimore scored and also went ahead, then Raiders quarterback Derek Carr drove them down the field and then magic. Carr is already getting that magic that former Raider Ken Stabler had and it’s amazing to see that kind of play. Then there’s the Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco who got the ball back but the Raiders corner Nieko Thorpe catches the pass to clinch the game.

Plus dedication to Raiders executive assistant Al LoCosale after 34 years with the Raiders between 1969-2003 retired in 2003 and left a legendary legacy as executive assistant and media relations manager with the Oakland Raiders. LoCosale passed away on Sunday as announced by the team he was 82.
