That’s Amaury’s News and Commentary a telephone conversation between Billy Beane and Donald Trump

by Amaury Pi Gonzalez

Billy: “Hey Donald I have a couple of players you might like to have on your team” Trump: “Nah, Billy I am fine I think I can make the postseason with my team this year, If I need anything from you I will call you. Billy: “OK but are you sure you do not want my shortstop, he is going to get better with time, I know he leads both leagues in errors, but he is getting better”

Trump: “I tell you what Billy, let him play for you one more year, and if he is better by July 31, 2016, please call me, we will talk”. Billy: “OK, will do….and by the way I do have a couple of young pitching prospects in the minors, they have a great upside and will be solid pitchers by 2018”. Trump: “OK Billy,….wait a minute I have a couple of calls on my other telephones….”

Billy got tired of waiting so he hang up. Next day he calls Trump again. “Hey Donald did you have time to think about the trades I had in mind?” Trump: “Billy, you traded Céspedes, Donaldson, Moss, and Norris and then you just traded Kazmir and Clippard, what are you doing”. Billy: “My team is getting younger, my payroll is getting smaller, we still making money every year. Trump: “Well in that case why should I talk to you?…I just opened four new golf courses and I am very busy now, I have no time to talk trades with you”.

Billy keeps calling until one day he gets an unexpected call from Trump:” “Billy, are you there? Billy: “Yes”. Trump: “Billy, you are fired!” Billy: “But Donald I do not work for you!”
Trump: “Yes you do, I just bought the A’s and my first move is to fire you”. Billy: “Oh….but wait I own 3% of the A’s” Trump: “I know that, In my deal with Wolff and Fihser I told them to give you instead of your $40 million dollar share, a new rookie shortstop, two pitchers and a catcher and a Cuban player to be named later”.

San Francisco Giants podcast with Michael Duca Mon Jul 24, 2015

by Michael Duca

SAN FRANCISCO–The Giants coming off a five game win streak and a three game sweep of the A’s over the weekend are looking to get on a successful track for the second half of the season. They played some heroic baseball against some of the good teams in the first half and it’s good to see them do some of the things their suppose to do and handle the clubs that are struggling too.

The Giants got to beat on some of the teams that are in disarray too and the A’s qualify and they’ve been expecting it to be raining shoes in that clubhouse. The A’s losing Scott Kazmir to the Houston Astros and that might have thrown them for a loop just as much as last season where they saw some huge deals go down at the trade deadline including Yoenis Cespedes who was dealt to the Red Sox not mention A’s general manager Billy Beane is getting in trade mode as A’s pitcher Tyler Clippard was dealt to the New York Mets on Monday night.

There’s a good shot for the Giants to reside in first place as they are just a game behind the Dodgers for first in the National League West. For the capture of first place for San Francisco it’s going to take a few weeks. They’ve been gaining ground steadily for the last two weeks ever since they bottomed out at 43-43. This might be a case of making hay while the sunshines because the G Men have a pretty rough August coming up.

On the August schedule the Giants face a number of first or second place clubs or ones that are in the thick of competing for post season, Texas, Houston, Washington, St.Louis, Pittsburgh, and yes St.Louis again but at AT&T. They have to face a bunch of teams in the mid west, the east in the saturated heat facing pitching staffs that are kind of older than the usual pitching staffs. The Giants have to be a little concerned about that and the Giants want to get as many in the win column as long as your here in the month of July and playing in cooler weather in the Bay Area the Giants want to take advantage of that.

Tim Hudson could have made it a lot easier on himself by hitting that double with the bases loaded instead of waiting with the bases empty the next time up. That would have cracked that thing wide open and Hudson could have cruised for five or six innings and he could have felt a little better about himself and that game was real close at 4-3 and it was a scuffle for the last four to five innings. He’s pretty pleased to be the 16th pitcher to beat all 30 teams in his career and ironically the 30th team in Sunday’s win was his first team when he broke into the big leagues with the Oakland A’s.You would hate to be Tim Hudson and retire and being one team shy of Brewers pitcher Kyle Lohse.

When Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow said everybody on the Giants can be traded before the deadline except for pitcher Madison Bumgarner and I was asked if that meant catcher Buster Posey could be trade bait and I said no and I meant it. The Giants would no more trade Buster Posey than they would lease this ball park out to the A’s.

That’s Amaury’s News and Commentary: Angels pushing to the limit, plus more sports updates

by Amaury Pi Gonzalez

ANAHEIM–Mike Trout went 4 for 4, hit a Grand Slam and drove in five runs(he also walked once, so he was on base five times) and the Angels beat the Texas Rangers 13-7 and left town on their way to Houston in first place one game over the Astros. Another “day at the office”:for the best player in the game. I had a chance to speak with him right after the game and after Fox English did their postgame interview: Q: How do you feel today? Trout: “Great, I was happy to help the team, we are heading into August and this is what we need” Q: You have been hitting the ball more to right and right-center field recently, both of your home runs today went that way…” Trout: “Yes, well they are pitching me low and outside and I do not try to do much with those pitches, just try to put a good swing…and the ball left, I was sure about the first home runs but the second one with the bases loaded I wasn’t too sure, but I am glad it went over”. Q: the trip to Houston now, how important is it? Trout: “Well –like I said we are going now into the most difficult part of the season, our pitching has been terrific and we seem to get the hits when we need them, these guys are good” Q: This long homestand for you guys ended with seven wins and three loses, talk about that. Trout: It was good man, we put some good numbers on the board, we have to keep doing that…. this is going to be a great race”.

Texas’ Josh Hamilton returned to Anaheim and it was brutal. Booed during the pregame lineup introductions, booed during each of every at bat, booed when he made a play in the outfield. Josh smiled every time and seemed to take it in stride. After all Josh Hamilton is no a bad guy, he is a guy with a lot of bad habits and that has spilled onto the field and hurt his career. He definitely is not the player he was when he won the 2010 American League MVP for the Texas Rangers. But he seems to be happy now back at home with the Rangers in Texas, prior to the first game of this three game weekend series at Angel Stadium and during practice on the field, he spoke with Angels first baseman Albert Pujols and other Angels, all is forgotten. It is baseball after all, and his life is more important. I hope the best is store in the future for Josh Hamilton, the short time he was here he was always courteous to the fans and the media and he seems to be a good teammate on the Angels squad.

Will not mention his name here, he is not worthy of any recognition. The ESPN coleague who made those remarks about Dominican Players is not anymore working for ESPN, it never ceases to amaze me how some people are so ignorant and stupid when they open their mouth.

Copperstown, July 26, 2015. For the first time in history three pitchers were in the 2015 class inducted to the cream of the crop of the game. Former Giant pitcher Randy Johnson, with over 300 victories and second in history in strikeouts, Cy Young, World Series, All Star a super pitcher from the Bay Area, Livermore and Walnut Creek. Former Brave Jon Smoltz a guy that was a unique type of pitcher, won as a starter and also was a closer, the great Dominican former Red Sox Pedro Martinez a guy not that big in stature, but with lots of guts. control and perseverance won over 200 games and became the second Dominican born(Juan Marichal 1983)inducted to the Hall.

And the versatile Craig Biggio, over 3,000 hits, and a brilliant 20 year career. Johnson went as a Diamondback, Smoltz as a Brave, Martinez as a Red Sox and Biggio as an Astro. Love the long speech by Pedro, half in Spanish. 83 players today are from the Dominican Republic among all 30 teams. Next from that country in a couple of years will be Vladimir Guerrero.I started a campaign in San Francisco in 1982 where I was the Sports Director for KIQI 1010AM radio, trying to get Juan into the Hall of Fame, he was not elected the first time, but yes the second time. I still have that Award of Merit given to me by the then Mayor of the City, the Honorable Dianne Feinstein, now a US Senator for the State of California. At Cooperstown yesterday,Juan Marichal and Pedro Martinez posed for photos with the Dominican flag, one word I always have reserved for Juan is, class.

John Edward “Jed” York and Steve Kerr.. Maybe the owner of the 49ers should concentrate on Football and leave the Warriors alone, different game, different owners, different cities. Why bother? Anyway, here are my two cents on what York said. Jim Tomsula the ex-defensive line coach of the Niners is now the new 49ers coach, he seems to agree with York a lot. Is that why he got the job? On the other hand: Jim Harbaugh was a proven winner, but he didn’t agree much with York’s regime and way of doing things. We all know what happened. It is not a change of culture — like Jed York says about comparing Tomsula to Steve Kerr coach of the Warriors—. It was a change that York just wanted to do, he owns this decision win or lose with the new coach, who according to York will bring a “change of culture”to the Niners.
———————————————————————————————————-
Finally: I heard a great quote this weekend, which I have not heard in a long time. “A man that loves his job is always on vacation”.

Hasta la Vista.

San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders podcast with David Zizmor Sat Jul 25, 2015 (photo of Adrian Peterson)

by David Zizmor

San Francisco 49ers update: The 49ers open their regular season against Minnesota (at Santa Clara), week 2 in Pittsburgh, week 3 at Arizona, and week 4 Packers (at Santa Clara). It is a tough way to open the season and the Niners were going to have a tough schedule anyway since their in the NFC West where they have the Seahawks, the Cardinals, and the Rams who seem to be getting better.

Just generally speaking the 49ers weren’t going to have it easy anyway and when you get off from a rough road trip like the Pittsburgh-Arizona stretch in weeks one and two that’s a difficult way to start your season. The Vikings are going to be one of the trendy picks this season they got Teddy Bridgewater in last year’s draft he really started to look good towards the end of last season.

The Vikings had a rough year last year because of the whole Adrian Peterson situation but he’s back and you have to figure he’s the kind of guy whose going to play with a chip on his shoulder. Let’s not forget this is a guy who is a great, great running back. Forget about all the off field stuff, he’s a great running back over the course of his career however he’s had a few issues here and there and he hopes to straighten that image out when the 49ers get ready to host the Vikings for opening night on September 14th at Levis Stadium.

Oakland Raiders update: Raiders safety Nate Allen was cleared of lewd act charges in Fort Myers Florida when a 16 year girl said she saw Allen making lewd acts in his car. Allen told arresting officers (four of them) that he was not making lewd acts and that he was on the phone the whole time with a local restaurant.

Allen was later cleared of the charges and the four officers who arrested Allen were disciplined for fouling up the investigation for wrongful detainment. Allen said he plans to sue the four officers who arrested him and the Fort Myers Police Department for false arrest. Sources say Allen is looking into taking legal action against the 16 year old girl for defamation.

This was a he said she said situation it was really tough to make any conclusions about what actually happened. Also Allen said he was talking to a restaurant by cell phone the entire time this lewd act episode was to have taken place. Police was said to have contacted the restaurant after Allen’s arrest to corroborate his story and also checked the restaurant and Allen’s cell phone records time line which checked out.

Oakland Raiders podcast with Jeremy Kahn: Look for Carr to have even a better year for Oakland

by Jeremy Kahn

ALAMEDA–The relationship between Oakland Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio and Raiders quarterback Derek Carr will be a good one and Carr will be a great young quarterback. Carr will have help with some good wide receivers with Amari Cooper who was drafted by the Raiders from the University of Alabama. Michael Crabtree will be there at wide out the Raiders will be much improved contrary to popular belief. Crabtree will not be a stranger to anyone at the Coliseum where many had followed Crabree from his days in San Franciso.

For running back Latavius Murray expect nothing but speed last year he had a 90 yard touchdown against Kansas City last year on a Thursday night game and he is going to be a very good running back for the future. Wide receiver Rod Streater he will show speed with Crabtree and Cooper that will be a formable trio.

The Raiders open up the regular season at home hosting Cincinnati and Baltimore and you really never know what is going to happen until the regular season gets underway. The Bengals have quarterback Andy Dalton starting then there’s the Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. We all know whose the head coach at the Ravens it’s none other than John Harbaugh. That team won the Super Bowl three years ago their just as good and just as hungry to get back to that positon now.

The Raiders hit the road against Cleveland and Chicago and in weeks three and four. At Chicago it won’t be too freezing cold because the Raiders will be getting in those two cities in the last part of September and early October. They won’t have to face the winter cold breezes of Lake Michigain or Lake Eerie. The Raiders in their first four games could end up being 3-1 or at worst 0-4 and they could be 1-3. You never know what could happen they could sweep all four games with Cincinnati, Baltimore, Cleveland or Chicago.

Oakland A’s podcast with Charlie O Tue Jul 21, 2015

by Charlie O Mallonee

OAKLAND–Will the Oakland A’s be buyers or sellers towards the trade deadline? The A’s are right in between that decision of buying or selling and they’ve finally made the big move talking for weeks now about making the move about getting out of fifth place and into fourth place. While they’ve finally done that their in fourth place they’ve got a record 43-51.

So the A’s are eight games from .500 they’re a half game in front of Seattle as of Tuesday night as the M’s had sole possession of fifth place and their just one game out of third place behind Texas. It doesn’t even seem possible to be talking about the A’s being in third place with the way things were going in the late part of May and early June.

You’ve got to look at where they are and the most important thing to look at where they are in the wild card standings and currently their eight games out of the final wild card spot. If you look at the wild card right now if they season ended today it would go down like this in the east it would be the Yankees, in the central it would be the Royals, and the Angels in the west.

The wild card teams would be Minnesota and Houston then you have to look at whose in front of the A’s trying to battle for that wild card situation. First of all you have Baltimore and in an interview with baseball analyst Peter Gammons Monday night Gammons said that Baltimore is really going to come into this trade deadline as a buyer on their last gasp.

They have a lot of players that are going to become free agents, their not going to afford to keep everybody and their going to have to be in a situation where they’re really going to have to retool after this year. So the O’s are going to be buyers, then you have Toronto who has really cooled off their at .500 right now, but they still can believe they can be in the thick of things so their going to be buyers.

Then you have Detroit the Tigers they never think their out of anything and right now their interested in being a buyer for another starting pitcher. Which they might be in a deal with the A’s, then you have Tampa Bay, the Rays are just too close to being into the wild card at this point. If the Rays can get players as a rental. You have Cleveland who are ahead of the A’s in the wild card they’re almost certainly going to be sellers.

San Francisco Giants podcast with Michael Duca Tue Jul 21, 2015

by Michael Duca

Quick Candlestick memories: I remember a game in 1960 which is the first major league game I ever attended and sat in lower reserve section 12 with my dad and watched Juan Marichal beat the Pittsburgh Pirates. Probably the most anticipated game that I ever went to was one whose radio call and it was “27 years of waiting has come to an end” by Giant broadcaster Hank Greenwald.

On a play that the Chicago Cubs Ryne Sandberg hit for a jelly leg on a curve ball grounder that Giants second baseman Robby Thomson fielded for the final out in the NLCS for the Giants first bid since moving to San Francisco to get into the World Series in 1989. The best moment that I will ever remember was former Giant pitcher Dave Dravecky making his comeback.

Can the Giants close the gap on the Dodgers in the second half of the campaign? Of course they can, that doesn’t mean they will but they certainly can. They’ve got enough games left with the Dodgers and that alone can close the gap. Every year it’s where the Giants end up in the post season somewhere around July late June we write them off.

Then Giants vice president of operations Brian Sabean would work his magic and sprinkle his powers on Harry Potter’s magic wand and away we go with somebody showing up with an array of former Giant saviors Kenny Lofton (2002 team), Cody Ross, Pat Burell, or whoever shows up and provides a spark and turns things around. Sometimes it’s Giants pitcher Javier Lopez.

The Giants who are coming off a six game winning streak before dropping a tough 4-2 loss in San Diego Monday night. They have to be a little bit concerned about pitcher Tim Hudson and he did not pitch particularly well on Monday night he struggled all night and to be honest with you the Giants need to be a little concerned about their ace Madison Bumgarner.

Bumgarner has not been as crisp as were used to seeing him and as dominant as were used to seeing him he’s required a lot of pitches to get through a lot of innings. That’s going to get costly as time goes by if your rotation horses not assuming seven innings every time out, then your going to the well a little too much in the bullpen and you may not have what you need.

That’s Amaury’s News and Commentary: Trade deadline approaching what Giants and A’s need

by Amaury Pi Gonzalez

Less than two weeks for the July 31 trade deadline, and there are a bunch of big name players that could be traded, like pitchers Cole Hamels(Phillies) and Johnny Cueto(Reds) those two of the most mentioned names available for the right deal. Philadelphia is where the teams can go shopping these next eleven days.

For the Oakland Athletics it looks like they will be sellers, and the two main names on tap are lefthanded pitcher Scott Kazmir and versatile player Ben Zobrist, those are the two proven players most marketable, that the A’s could send them packing for the right players in return, however nobody really knows what Billy Beane will do. In this same division the Los Angeles Angels will be looking for a left handed bat, outfielder, since the Matt Joyce acquisition during the off season from Tampa Bay did not bring the results they were expecting, that would be the main target for Mike Scioscia’s team who survived lots of turmoil during the first half, Josh Hamilton, now back with Texas and the departure of General Manager Jerry DiPoto. The Angels have also put their eyes on Jay Bruce and even Brandon Phillips, although Phillips could be very expensive.

The Texas Rangers are also looking at starting pitching and they could be in the hunt for a guy like Cole Hamels, the Seattle Mariners, who have played better lately, are stuck in a situation of winning now, and I do not expect them to make any big deals. The Houston Astros are very much in this picture for a playoff this season especially since they do have the very good young players than the other teams in this division (since they were not expecting to really compete this season) will they be willing to part ways with some of their young talent in return for a quick “fixer-upper” or are they going to stay with their original plan, that of winning in 2016.

For the San Francisco Giants another arm in the bullpen is not a bad thing at this time, and for them the race takes a different path, since it is looking more and more than in the NL western division only one team will advance(the one that wins the division)and aside from the Dodgers and the Giants the rest there are playing for 2016. But I believe the Dodgers are going to bring another starter to go with the best one-two of Kershaw and Greinke. The Dodgers are set with hitting, they lead the NL in home runs and their lineup, specially with the breakout year for Grandal is set up for the remainder of the season. Jonathan Papelbon is an interesting name that somebody will pick up as veteran bullpen help.

But there are always big surprises this time of the year, hold on, things could get very interesting. The A’s always keep trading, that is never a surprise, for the Giants to win again a World Series this year, that would be a surprise, after all they only win it every two years.

Happy trading!

San Francisco 49ers & Oakland Raiders podcast by David Zizmor Sat Jul 18, 2015

by David Zizmor

San Francisco 49ers update: The way the 49ers offense is going to work at least in the back field anyway it’s going to be a combination of running backs Carlos Hyde and Reggie Bush. Bush’s specialty is receiving which is what he’s most successful at. That’s where he’s made his hay as an NFL running back, he did have a successful year or two in Miami where he ran the ball pretty well. He’s not a bad runner he can carry the ball but his specialty is catching the ball.

Your going to see him more often than not and why he’s a great receiver and Hyde is the bigger stronger receiver he the kind of guy you want to see on first or second down that can go against the tough guards who go and get tackles. Bush is a guy who is not quite as big he can’t get between the tackles quite as well. He’s an outside runner, you got that outside speed that’s where you want to use him. Hyde he can go inside and outside.

He’s the guy whose the first and second down back and Hyde to his credit is actually a pretty good receiver, he might even be there on third down. It’s going to be interesting to see exactly how much they plan to use him. The thing is you always figure when you make the effort to go out and sign a guy like Bush your intention is actually to use him. The 49ers have a very high draft pick on Hyde and last season he got quite a few reps as a rookie that was with Frank Gore who is one of the all time greats.

Oakland Raiders update: The Raiders open up their regular season against Cincinnati and Baltimore and go on the road against Cleveland and Chicago. The two teams to open at home the Bengals and the Ravens that’s a tough way to open the season. Obviously it’s nice for the Raiders to have the home field advantage where Raider Nation can yell their hearts out. It certainly will be amped up after an entire off season dreaming about quarterback Derrek Carr to Amari Cooper and running back Latavius Murray getting more carries.

Michael Crabtree had a stuff it in your face career when he was with the 49ers and looks ready to get started with the Raiders. The Bengals look like a playoff team, the Ravens didn’t make the playoffs last season their always competitive and their tough. The Ravens have a very tough defense year in and year out. Having a bit of a down season the Ravens are going to come in with a bit of chip on their shoulder. These two teams coming in the Bengals and the Ravens are not going to be pushovers and be easy to beat.

The Bengals have offensive coordinator Hue Jackson in there and maybe he’ll want a little revenge after his time with the Raiders and so unceremoniously. The Raiders always have a chance at this stage in July its tough to draw any conclusions. As they say on any given Sunday one team could beat another. So the Raiders aren’t going to necessarily lose these games, given the talent on these two teams and what we’ve seen from them the Raiders are certainly underdogs against the Bengals and the Ravens for week one and two.

That’s Amaury’s News and Commentary: Why Mike Trout is the best player in the game

by Amaury Pi Gonzalez

ANAHEIM–I have been privileged to see Mike Trout from his first game, first at bat in the major leagues. Trout, the 2014 American League Most Valuable Player, made history again this week, when he won his second consecutive All Star Game MVP, something never done before. He also became the first player in 38 years in All Star Game competition to hit a home run to lead off the game.

There was a press conference for Mike Trout at Angel Stadium on Friday July 17, the first game of the second half of the season for the Angels and the first game of a long 10-game home stand. That same night he hit a two out bases loaded home run (his 27th leading the American League) in the bottom of the ninth against Red Sox reliever Koji Uehara, leaving the Sox dazzled on the field as he a hit monstrous line-drive that sailed over the left center field fence. Final – Angels 1 Red Sox 0.

Trout is 23 years of age, but he conducts himself with his teammates, the media, and the fans as a seasoned veteran, very affable and always accessible, always has a smile, and you can see he is truly enjoying playing the game of baseball. Nobody could be that good of an actor, even here close to Hollywood-land.

Once called the “Millville Meteor” born in Millville, New Jersey, he has not disappointed. He answers all the questions thrown at him. When asked if he met the Living Legends Bench, Koufax, Mays and Aaron, he said he never did, he also said he enjoyed very much this All Star Game (his fourth) because he got to hang with guys like Lorenzo Cain of the Kansas City Royals. Trout, still single, travels to be with his parents in his native Millville, like he just did during the All Star break. He does the same during the off season.

In 2012, the year when he won the American League Rookie of the Year, the great Detroit Tigers Hall of Fame player Al Kaline, said about Mike Trout: “he reminds me of Mickey Mantle”. This reporter saw Mickey Mantle play in New York, while I was living there after my years in the US Army. The only thing that Trout doesn’t have that Mantle had, was that Mantle was a switch hitter, aside from that Trout has as much talent as Mickey Mantle.

Speed and power, sensational defensive skills. The most important thing in baseball is to score runs, and nobody has scored more than Mike Trout since he came to the major leagues.

One of his attributes is his demeanor; he is as humble of a mega star that you would see in today’s game.

During our telecast here in Anaheim we call Trout “El Nino” trans:”The Kid”, as that is what he is, a big kid with a big heart and huge skills in display every day, every night. Mike Trout is considered The Face of MLB, taking over his hero, New York Yankee great Derek Jeter, now officially retired. There are many similarities between Trout and Jeter, they both have that special talent to be great on the field and great off the field and Major League Baseball has been blessed to have such players like Jeter and Trout.

Mike Trout is often compared to Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals, just like in the 1960’s people would argue who was better, Mickey Mantle or Willie Mays, today those two young stars are sharing that spotlight. There is prejudice on this from those that cover the American League and those that cover the National League. But, one thing in today’s game that is different from the days of Mays and Mantle is that today there is inter-league play. The only way in the 1960’s that you would see Mantle and Mays in the same game, would be in a World Series between the Yankees and the Giants.

There is a difference in attitudes between Harper and Trout. Harper seems to be flashier; by the way he conducts himself on the field and off the field, always available for other stuff more in line with show business, than Trout, who seems to be much more focus on the game on the field. Mike Trout never participated in the home run hitting contest, he could if he wanted, as he is always invited, but he always declines. Nothing big about that for him he just prefers the competition on the field with his team and teammates. He is the ultimate team player. Mike Scioscia on his 16th season as manager of the Angels, the longest tenured manager with one team in baseball today, is actually amazed at what Trout does on the field. Sometimes Sciosia doesn’t have the words to describe Mike Trout’s abilities, “He is one of a kind” said Scioscia.

Some compared the athleticism of Trout to Bo Jackson, and that is a good comparison since both are strong big guys with lots of speed. Mike Trout hits a routine groundball to the shortstop, and many times he beats the throw. Next at bat the pitcher throw’s him a low and outside pitch (like Greinke did on the All Star Game this past Tuesday) and Trout deposits the ball in the right field seats.

For the Los Angeles Angels, #27 has been a great number. Prior to the league MVP Mike Trout, that number was Vladimir Guerrero (another Angels MVP). The funny thing about that is that at Angel Stadium in Anaheim you can still see fans wearing #27 with Guerrero on the back, and many more with #27 with Trout on the back.

Another similarity between these two #27s is that they are both fan favorites, Guerrero also plays with that gusto, that thing that nobody can fake.

Personal note: My most sincere sympathy to George Devine Sr’s. family. I miss him greatly.
