Filip Bystedt scored his second goal of the game with 3:08 remaining in overtime on the power play as the San Jose Barracuda overcame three one-goal deficits to defeat the Texas Stars 4-3 Saturday evening at H-E-B- Center at Cedar Park.
Igor Chernyshov sent a cross-ice pass from the left wing over to Bystedt who buried a one-timer top shelf past Stars goalie Remi Poirier for a power play goal, his second goal of the game and sixth of the season at the 1:52 mark of the overtime period as San Jose left the Lone Star state with four points.
San Jose, who never led in the game, has won two games in a row as they sweep the weekend series. Texas has lost four games in a row.
Texas (8-13-3-1) drew first blood with an even strength goal early in the first period. Tristan Bertucci won a battle along the far side boards. Bertucci sent a cross-ice pass over to a pinching Michael Karow who beat Cuda goalie Jakub Skarek with a one-timer with a back door goal, his third of the season at the 2:58 mark.
San Jose (15-8-1-1) score the equalizer late in the opening frame. A failed clearing attempt by Texas led to a give and go between Igor Chernyshov and Filip Bystedt at the left faceoff circle. Bystedt fired a wrist shot that beat Poirier over the glove on the near side for his first goal of the game and fifth goal of the season at the 17:12 mark.
The Stars regained the lead with its second even strength goal near the halfway point of the second period. A failed clearing attempt by San Jose led to Cameron Hughes coming away with the puck. Hughes centered the puck in between the faceoff circles over to Matthew Seminoff who blasted a one-timer past Skarek for his fifth goal of the season at the 8:02 mark.
The Barracuda scored their second equalizer of the game just under three minutes later. Bystedt glided a puck a through the crease where the puck hit off of the skate of Egor Afanasyev and into the back of the net for his second goal of the season at the 10:58 mark.
Texas gained its third lead of the contest with its third even strength goal early in the third period. After a faceoff win inside the Cuda zone, Gavin White knuckleballed a shot from the point that went over the blocker of Skarek for his second goal of the season at the 4:53 mark.
San Jose didn’t go down quietly as they scored their third equalizer late in the third period. Patrick Giles centered the puck from the left wing into the crease. Cam Lund fought through the traffic in front and poked home the puck past Poirier for his fourth goal of the season at the 17:11 mark.
Skarek stopped 26 of the 29 shots he faced to earn his eighth win of the season. Poirier made 30 saves on 34 shots in the losing effort.
GAME NOTES: San Jose finished 1-for-4 on the power play. Texas went 0-for-3.
San Jose has four straight overtime games.
