On the Stanford Cardinal podcast with Michael Roberson:

#1 What a way for the Stanford Cardinal to start the post season with a 87-70 win over the Cal State Northridge Matadors. It was a fitting a great win for the Cardinal to get this NIT Tournament started.

#2 With the win the Cardinal improve their record to 21-13 which advances them to the second round for Cardinal head coach Kyle Smith it’s got to be pretty exciting to advance to that next round.

#3 The Cardinal are now 12-2 at Maple Pavilion and have won ten straight games at home which advanced them to the second round for the sixth consecutive time.

#4 Michael in that last win for Stanford on Tue Mar 18 against the Matadors the Cardinal Maxime Raynaud once again led with 22 points and Oziyah Sellers with 20 points.

#5 Stanford takes on the Kent State Golden Flashes here in second game of the NIT at Maples Pavilion. Kent State having a good season 23-11 and are 9-5 on the road. The Flashers are in third place. The Cardinal come in seventh in the ACC at 21-13. Tip off on Sunday 6:00pm PDT at Maples. Michael how do you see this one?

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast Daniel Dullum Sun Mar 23, 2025: Vegas Stadium Authority is still waiting on A’s to come up with construction money

Sacramento A’s Relocation podcast Daniel Dullum:

#1 Daniel, after all this time and the deadline to pay for the A’s Las Vegas ballpark construction costs was due last December the Sacramento A’s owner John Fisher’s payment is still on hold at the tune of $1.75 billion.

#2 As of last week the A’s need to get private money and at a price that is of higher value then the team itself to get the Vegas park and shovels into the ground. No word from the A’s on the loan for the ballpark that was supposed to come from U.S. Bank and Goldman Sachs.

#3 The A’s right now need to come up with $100 million to just get started with limited public financing from the SB1 public funding bill that was approved in 2023 by the Nevada State Assembly for $380 million.

#4 Word is the Fisher Family has not come up with the funding and Las Vegas authorities can not confirm publicly or otherwise that the family has that kind of money or has that money to put down as of last week.

#5 A’s team president Sandy Dean said in an early March meeting with the Nevada Stadium Authority headed by Nevada Stadium Authority Chairman Steven Hill that the A’s will have the money coming from the Fisher Family and loans from U.S. Bank and Goldman Sachs. It’s yet to be seen. There are two questions regarding the financing of the Vegas ballpark #1 What will the Nevada State Assembly do if the Fishers can not come up with their share of the construction costs so that money from the SB1 bill can start funding the ballpark. #2 Will this land on the lap of MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred who helped spearhead the A’s relocation and will MLB be forced to go back to the drawing board and have to find a new location for the A’s who are playing their interim years in Sacramento?

#6 Can Oakland get back at the table if Vegas falls apart? Oakland has an interim Mayor Kevin Jenkins and Oakland will vote for a new mayor in November either Barbara Lee or Loren Taylor. If John Fisher has no where else to go would he and Rob Manfred reconsider working with a new Oakland Mayor and renew interest in building a downtown Oakland ballpark?

This morning, my wife was on the computer when she noticed the following on Facebook:

The A’s sent out a media release announcing that Spanish radio announcer Jose Reynoso has been named as the new play by play announcer on Lotus Broadcasting doing 75 home games for the 2025 season.

A’s Spanish radio for the 2025 season will be heard on Fox Sports radio 104.7 FM/890AM . Reynoso is a former Sacramento River Cats Spanish broadcaster. The 75 games will include weekends and weeknight games all broadcast from Sutter Health Field in Sacramento.

First, some context. The A’s knew I was willing to go with the team to Sacramento. Although they announced that all their English-speaking announcers on radio and television would continue in Sacramento (including two on TV in their second season), they never attempted to offer the Spanish announcers the same opportunity to continue with the team in Sacramento; so much for the DEI page on the Athletics website.

Yes, it is true; my name has been connected to Oakland for many years since 1977 when I first began with Charlie O Finley A’s; however, they took my friend Ken Korach to Sacramento, and his name has also identified with Oakland A’s franchise since his days of working with the legendary Bill King.

My inquiring mind wants to know if I have been discriminated against. My work has been on record for decades, and there have been no scandals for saying anything negative over the air or any other improprieties that would have harmed the Oakland A’s franchise. I was always willing to offer my advice about Hispanic affairs and community. When A’s staff called on me for advice regarding the Hispanic community, I was there. Until the next time.

Began as Oakland A’s Spanish-language voice in 1977 ending in 2024 (interrupted by stops with the Giants, Mariners and Angels). Voice of the Golden State Warriors from 1992 through 1998. 2010 inducted in the Bay Area Radio Hall of fame.

#1 Coby White of the Chicago Bulls (30-40) was an offensive force leading with 35 points that help keep the Bulls in the game during the first half against the Sacramento Kings (35-34).

#2 Jeremiah Kevin Hueter finished second in scoring for the Bulls with 25 points was there any advantage for Hueter to face his former team the Kings and to come off with a successful game against them.

#3 The Kings keyed in on Bulls Tre Jones whose has been an offensive weapon who scored 15 points but that didn’t stop the Bulls from getting some good offense and a 12 points win 128-116.

#4 DeMar DeRozan who formerly played for the Bulls was second in scoring for the Kings with 22 points was there no doubt that DeRozan has something to prove facing his former team on Thursday night?

#5 The Kings tip off against the Milwaukee Bucks this Saturday night at 7:00pm at Golden 1 in Sacramento. The Bucks are coming off a win against the Los Angeles Lakers Thursday night 118-89. The Bucks are fifth in the NBA Eastern Conference at 38-30. How do you see this match up?

#1  Washington Capitals star Alexander Ovechkin lit the lamp for a career 888th time and now moves within seven goals to break former NHL great Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record at 894 goals. The Caps defeated the Philadelphia Flyers at Capital One Arena in Washington on Thursday night 3-2.

#2  The Toronto Maple Leafs edged the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night 4-3 and got some big help from John Tavares who had three points to reach 1,100 points for his career total. Taveras also scored two goals and got an assist to become the eighth NHL player to achieve 1,100 points.

#3 The Ottawa Senators have cooled off after winning six in a row dropped their second straight game this time to the visiting Colorado Avalanche at the Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa 5-1 on Thursday night. The Aves Brock Nelson scored the first two goals of the game. Cale Makar scored a goal and an assist and Nathan MacKinnon also scored. The Avalanche are on a roll having won nine of their last 11 games.

#4 The New Jersey Devils couldn’t hold the 3-1 lead as the visiting Calgary Flames came back with flurry scoring four times in the third period to defeat their hosts at the Prudential Center 5-3 in Newark NJ. It took the Flames 15 third period shots on net to convert four of them for goals. Scorers for Calgary Connor Zary, Danil Miromanov, Jonathan Huberdeau, and Nazem Kadri.

#5 It was a battle that carried over into overtime at Nationwide Arena in Columbus between the Columbus Blue Jackets and Florida Panthers resulting in a 1-0 Panthers win on Thursday night. The Jackets Alexsander Barkov scored from the top slot. The Jackets Kirill Marchenko at 19:30 put the puck over the glass and was called for delay of game and Barkov afterward ended up scoring the game winner. Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 26 shots for the shutout his fifth this season.

Dylan Guenther’s 9th Game-Winning Goal Rattles Sabres In 5-2 Utah HC Victory

SALT LAKE CITY–Buffalo unraveled late in the third period, scoring their own goal for Utah on a delayed penalty to seal the Utah Hockey Club’s 5-2 sixth home win in the past eight contests.

The Utah Hockey Club returned to home ice on Thursday night after a three-game road trip where they won against Wild Card contender Vancouver but lost to Seattle and Edmonton.

Logan Cooley gave Utah the first lead of the game at 17:27 of the first period on a snap shot which got past Buffalo netminder James Reimer, his 19th goal of the season, assisted by Nick Schmaltz and Clayton Keller. With 11 seconds remaining in the opening frame, Sabres forward JJ Peterka beat Karel Vejmelka on the power play to tie things up, assisted by Jason Zucker and Tage Thompson.

Utah would regain the lead at 11:50 of the second period as defenseman Mikhail Sergachev fired a shot from the blue line which flew through traffic for his career high 12th goal of the season, assisted by Jack McBain.

Early in the third period Buffalo would tie the score again on an unassisted short-handed breakaway goal by Ryan McLeod. Utah forward Dylan Guenther recovered a rebound in front of the Sabres net at 14:13 of the period and scored his 25th of the season on a wrist shot for what would become his ninth game-winning goal of the season, assisted by Barrett Hayton and Michael Carcone.

With just over a minute remaining in the game, Utah forward Kevin Stenlund was whistled for high-sticking against Bowen Byram. As play continued with Buffalo still controlling the puck, Tage Thompson missed the stick of Rasmus Dahlin on an attempted pass which banked off the dasher boards and straight into the empty Sabres net to give Utah a 4-2 lead.

Stenlund, the last Utah player to touch the puck before the penalty, was credited with his 11th goal of the season. With James Reimer still sitting on the Buffalo bench, Mikhail Sergachev launched a shot the full length of the ice to make what had been a tight game a 5-2 blowout. The goal added to Sergachev’s career high for his 13th of the season, assisted by winning goaltender Karel Vejmelka, his first assist on the year.

In the locker room, Sergachev talked about the final moments of the game. “Obviously, that was lucky. To get those lucky bounces, you gotta work hard, and I think that stretch in the third, we worked hard and had a lot of chances to score. We didn’t score, and we got those two, so I guess we’ll take them.” With regard to Vejmelka making a career high 12th consecutive start, Sergachev added, “He’s our guy. He’s there when we need him. It showed tonight. He’s unbelievable.”

Dylan Guenther talked about the importance of Thursday night’s bounce back win following the previous game’s drubbing against the Oilers. “It gets a little bit of our confidence back. That was a tough ending [in Edmonton], and it’s just one game that’s kind of the beauty of it. We have to play a lot, but we just had to make sure that we got back on track. It was a step in that direction.” With regard to his ninth game-winner, Guenther commented, “That’s pretty cool, maybe a bit of a coincidence too, just getting lucky on some of them. Those are the times of the game that you want to play in. Those are the fun times. So, it’s nice to be recognized.”

Head coach André Tourigny also talked about his team’s response to the loss in Edmonton. “We talked briefly about it as a team. It’s what happened and let’s learn from it. We moved on and I think in our situation, it’s easier because the game tonight was huge. That was a really important game for us with the scores everywhere around the league on top of it. We didn’t know that before, but we know that the team we’re fighting to win, they’re fighting too. They want to win their game, so we need to keep getting points. There are a lot of games left, there’s a lot of hockey left, and we need to be consistent and win on a regular basis.” Speaking of how the club is fighting to make the playoffs, Tourigny said, “There’s no doubt about it. For me, I think we had it all year long, and we had moments where we talked about how much pressure we’re putting on ourselves and how tough it was to manage it. All season long we’re really demanding ourselves, we believe in ourselves, and we know we can achieve great things. We talk about the process of a young team to live with that expectation and that pressure and so on and so forth. It’s a lot of learning. It’s learning on steroids, and we need to keep going and keep doing our job at that point and stay in the hunt. We need to wear opponents down and that’s the way it will be. Every point is important.”

Utah returns to action on Saturday at home for a 3:00pm afternoon game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Coby White, Huerter Power Bulls Past Kings in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO — The Sacramento Kings were back in action Thursday night, playing the second night of a back-to-back. They welcomed the Chicago Bulls to Golden 1 Center for a 7 PM PST tip-off, marking Kevin Huerter’s return to Sacramento.

Huerter’s return felt bittersweet for Kings fans. He was a key part of the original Beam Team that pushed the Golden State Warriors to seven games in the playoffs just a couple of years ago. However, both the team and Huerter fell short of expectations in his final two seasons in Sacramento. On Thursday, it was all smiles and hugs for Huerter as he greeted media members, coaches, fans, and Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé.

The Bulls entered the game ninth in the Eastern Conference with a 29-40 record, while the Kings held the same position in the West at 35-33. Chicago came away with the win, defeating Sacramento 128-116.

The Kings started strong in the first quarter, catching fire from beyond the arc. Malik Monk hit five threes and Trey Lyles added four as Sacramento outscored Chicago 39-28 while shooting 65% from deep. Monk led the way with 15 points in the quarter, and Lyles added 12. The Bulls struggled to contain Sacramento’s attack, with Tre Jones leading Chicago with six points early.

In the second quarter, the Kings maintained the pressure but couldn’t stretch their lead. Chicago edged Sacramento 27-25 in the period, cutting the deficit slightly. The Kings led 64-55 at the break, playing solid basketball through the first half. Monk paced Sacramento with 19 points at halftime, while Nikola Vučević led the Bulls with 11.

The third quarter saw a shift in momentum. Chicago came out energized and outscored Sacramento 37-25, seizing control of the game. The Kings lost their edge, and the Bulls began to believe they could steal a road win.

In the fourth, the Bulls kept their foot on the gas. They outscored the Kings 36-27 in the final frame, closing out the win behind big performances from Coby White and Kevin Huerter. White finished with 35 points, and Huerter added 25 in his Sacramento return.

After the game, Doug Christie echoed a message he’s repeated during the team’s recent struggles. “Unacceptable,” Christie said at the postgame press conference. “There’s a lot there that’s unacceptable, but you can’t let people come into your house and just do what they want. The energy necessary to do what we need to do was not there tonight.”

Key Performers:
Malik Monk led the Kings with 34 points.

Trey Lyles added 22 points on 6-of-11 shooting.

DeMar DeRozan scored 22 points for the Bulls, becoming the 27th player in NBA history to surpass 25,000 career points.

Sharks fall 3-1 in Cagnoni’s NHL debut

SAN JOSE–Coming into Thursday’s game, the San Jose Sharks were riding a one game losing streak. Their previous game was against the Washington Capitals, where the Sharks fell 5-1. Macklin Celebrini scored the lone goal.

Tuesday it was announced that the second leading defenseman Luca Cagnoni was recalled to the Sharks. In the AHL this season, Cagnoni has 13 goals and 34 assists, adding up to 47 total points. Thursday night, he was paired with 6’7 Vincent Desharnais. “Kind of been saying it all week since the call, but it’s pretty surreal” Said Cagnoni.

San Jose struck first at 13:00 of the first period. William Eklund scored his 15th goal of the season, after pending review. The goal was under review due to Eklund crashing the net, pushing the net off of it’s latches. Ty Dellandrea registered the lone assist.

Tonight, Eklund was paired on a line with Smith and Wennberg, a pairing that he hadn’t seen before. “I think I had a solid game today and we created a lot of chances, eventually those will go in.” Said Eklund.

On a turnover by Shakir Mukhamadullin in the corner boards, Carolina tied the game at 1 at 10:31. Seth Jarvis scored his 27th goal of the season, unassisted.

Carolina took the lead at 4:58. Sebastian Aho scored his 26th of the year. Jackson Blake and Brent Burns registered the assists.

Carolina extended their lead further at 14:18 when Sean Walker scored his 4th of the season. Taylor Hall and Shayne Gostisbehere registered the assists.

Hurricanes forward Mark Jankowski played in his 400th NHL game, an accomplishment in itself.

Sharks’ rookie goalie Georgi Romanov, in his first career start, recorded 26 saves on 29 shots.

Each team had multiple powerplay opportunities, each with 3. Neither team scored on the powerplay, both going 0-3. 3 of the penalties were hooking penalties.

“I think the first period breakouts was the issue but we cleaned them up. I think in the second, puck play and turnovers.” Said HC Ryan Warsofky.

The Sharks will be back in action on Saturday March 22nd against the Boston Bruins. The last time these two teams faced off was on January 20th, where the Sharks fell 6-3. Barclay Goodrow, Will Smith, and Fabian Zetterlund, all scored.

#1 Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock star Tracy Morgan got food poising on Monday night at the Miami Heat and New York Knicks game. Morgan got so sick he had to end up going to the hospital from the game. He had thanked fans for their concern and said that the Knicks are now 1-0 when he throws up on the court.

#2. Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyroon Lue didn’t make himself available to the media after their game against the Cleveland Cavaliers as his back pain got worse. Lue has been suffering back pain this season and missed three games earlier this month. The Clippers were 2-1 without Lue in front of the bench and assistant Brian Shaw had to fill in beating the Sacramento Kings, Miami Heat but losing to the New Orleans Pelicans.

#3 Jessica, the Golden State Warriors rested their superstar Stephen Curry against one of the best teams in the NBA the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night. Curry was 6-21, 20 points, seven assists, seven turnovers in the Warriors loss to the Denver Nuggets on Monday night a game that ended their seven game win streak. Curry has a lower back strain and it had been hampering him since taking warm ups before Thursday’s game against the Sacramento Kings.

#4 The Oklahoma City Thunder held out three starters for Wednesday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Lu Dort. Isaiah Hartenstein is out with a sore back and Cason Wallace sore shoulder were questionable for tonight’s game. The Thunder in spite of the injuries had won three in a row previous to Wednesday night’s game.

#5 Washington Wizards forward Corey Kispert had thumb surgery for a torn ligament on his left thumb and will miss the rest of the regular season. The Wizards are expecting Kispert to make a full recovery and will be back for next season. Kispert injured the thumb Saturday against the Denver Nuggets in a game the Wizards won 126-123.

#1 Cal is in their first March Madness since 2019 and will be in the 4-Spokane. The Bears are No.8 as they face No.9 Mississippi State on Saturday for a 2:30pm PDT tip in Los Angeles.

#2 The Bears will be playing in a familiar place at USC Galen Center. Would it help playing in a building they used to go to every year?

#3 Cal head coach Charmin Smith said, “I’m thrilled” said Smith “I’m just really excited. We did a lot of work to get to the NCAA Tournament. I think we can bring a lot of fans to Southern California and it’ll be a great matchup.”
