No. 2-ranked Stanford saw its five-game winning streak snapped on Sunday at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle, as Washington prevailed 72-67 in Pac-12 women’s basketball.
It was the Huskies’ first victory over a ranked opponent since defeating UCLA on Feb. 23, 2020. It was also the Huskies’ first win over Stanford (22-3 overall, 10-2 Pac-12) since 2016.
Elle Ladine scored 21 points, and Dalayah Daniels made 15 points, and Hayley Van Dyke finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Haley Jones led Stanford with 18 points, and reserve Brooke Demetre had 15 points. Cameron Brink was held to 14 points and six rebounds.
Daniels sank a pair of free throws with 8 seconds to play, helping the Huskies (13-9 overall, 5-7 Pac-12) pull off the upset. The Huskies finished the second half with a 9-2 run. Lauren Schwartz sank a pair of free throws before Ladine made a layup to put Washington ahead with 1:40 to play.
Stanford led 17-8 after the first quarter, but the Huskies closed the first half with a 10-0 run and outscored the Cardinal 30-17 in the second quarter to take 38-34 lead into the break.
Washington then scored the first six points of the third quarter before a Brink layup ignited a 9-0 Stanford run. Brink’s three-point play at the end of the third quarter gave the Cardinal a 54-53 lead. But the Huskies outscored Stanford 19-13 in the fourth.
The Cardinal travel to Tucson on Thursday to face Arizona.
