Stanford takes command in OT to defeat Dartmouth 89-78

Stanford opened overtime with a nine-point run Thursday, as the Cardinal used late heroics from Harrison Ingram to defeat Dartmouth 89-78 in a non-conference men’s basketball game at Maples Pavilion.

Ingram made a 6-foot hook shot 18 seconds into OT and Stanford finished the nearly 3 1/2-minute run with a layup by Brandon Angel at 1:18. The Big Green didn’t score in the extra five minutes until Taurus Samuels made a layup with 1:07 remaining.

The Cardinal (6-3) outscored Dartmouth 15-4 in the overtime period.

Dartmouth (3-6) took a 74-67 lead on a Aaryn Rai layup with 1:16 to play in the second half. Following a time out, Ingram made a 12-foot jumper, a 3-pointer, and a layup with 1.1 seconds left for a personal six-point run that tied the game at 74-all at the end of regulation.

Ingram’s 3 came after a steal by Michael O’Connell, and the game-tying layup followed a Big Green shot clock violation.

Jaiden Delaire led the Cardinal with 22 points while grabbing six rebounds to go with two assists and a block. Angel had 18 points and four boards, followed by ingram with 13 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal. James Keefe added 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists, and O’Connell had nine points, four assists and two steals.

Samuels was Dartmouth’s top scorer witgh 22 points, to go with six rebounds and two assists. Brendan Barry was next with 20 points, six rebounds and three assists, and Ryan Cornish scored 16 points. Garrison Wade added 10 points for the Big Green.

Stanford outrebounded the Big Green 45-31.

The Cardinal face Texas in the Pac-12 Coast-to-Coast Challenge on Sunday in Las Vegas. Stanford then travels to Honolulu for three games in the Diamond Head Classic Dec. 22-25.
